Late Revenue Remittances Delay FAAC Meetings, Says Odah
THE Chairman, Finance Commissioners’ Forum, Mr. Timothy Odah, said that late remittances by revenue collecting agencies were often responsible for the delay in conducting the monthly meeting of Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
Odah said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Abuja.
He said that the FAAC meeting often took place later than scheduled due to lateness in rendering accounts.
The commissioner said that if funds were readily available on scheduled, revenues would be promptly shared to enable all tiers of government carry out their responsibilities.
“What I will like to see is improvement in funds. When funds improve, you will see that problems will go. Because all these problems that arise during FAAC meeting is because of money. That NNPC will not bring returns on time; it delays.”
“So, if before we get here and NNPC has gotten everything we need; we will be singing haleluyah! If each period we come for FAAC and funds are available, there is the tendency that we will conduct our meetings and go on time,’’ he said.
Odah said there was the need to employ good accounting system to ensure proper accounting of revenue generated in the country.
He said that the country must computerise all aspects of its transactions for best international accounting practices.
Odah said that revenue remittance to the federation account would be boosted if the entire businesses conducted by all of the country’s revenue generating agencies were done digitally.
He said that there would be reduction in fraudulent handling of resources if there were better record keeping of all transactions by these agencies.
He noted that it wasn’t possible to use automated sharing formula accepted by all in order to reduce the need for frequent FAAC meetings in Abuja,.
“I doubt that. This is because computer cannot talk for us. This is because the issue of FAAC meeting concerns disbursements.
“You know computer makes mistakes because human beings operate it. So there must be a sitting committee as well as a technical committee that will look at what was remitted into the federation account by all the revenue agencies involved”, he added

It's such a pity that our people are going through this financial Bullying but we need to be patient with the govt. It's not easy compiling an all new payment voucher with the mind of doing it as perfect as it could be.

I have always expected the delay and also sees it as a blessing in disguise. Imagine me being paid 4months of salary within two days? That's N268,536 whooping sum.

How would I have saved that sum to kick start the business I have always wanted to do?

Is this not a blessing in disguise?

Colleagues please see all the delays from the same angle so we don't all endup having high blood pressure and other ailments that come with it.

A supervisor from the UBE board came to my school last week and when we told him about the hardship and when we could go for our biometrics, he said nobody knows. That we will be given less than 24hrs notice to checkmate those ghost workers that will be coming from afar.

But I'm sorry to inform you that if they follow BVN, only 10 of the 23 LGAs will be paid as the ES of the remaining 13 LGAs made one or two errors while submitting a summarised list of staff details.

It was an hectic one my brother.

We submitted photocopies of all our credentials including a front and back photocopy of our ID card.
They didn't check the originals of our credentials but sighted the original ID card.

This audit is not like similar ones. My principal told me that this particular audit is a measure by the Rivers state government to checkmate the ghost workers in the state.

That's why the most important items to carry to the audit centre is your ID card, BVN Number, account number, bank name and appointment letter (promotion letter for the old teachers).

Your school/personal documents are optional but we were advised to carry them in case of in-casity.
