Family / Re: My Husband's Family Is Sucking Him Dry by Cryxtal(f): 2:59pm On May 19, 2020
bukatyne:
Instead of telling your husband to stop 'spending on his family', point him to projects he can spend money on.

E.g. 'My friend said there is one cheap land at Igbo Tutu' or 'how I wish we had our house, we wouldn't be bothered about Baba Mulika asking for rent every year' or 'there is one mutual funds that the entry is N200k and you get 15% returns per year. We can be paying Junior's fees from the interest'. You can also bring up investment for your kids etc.

You know what works with your husband so explore that. Also appreciate him for what he does so far.

@buying your land: I am not a fan of spouses buying stuffs behind each other so I will say deposit the money in mutual benefit/Chapel Hill/Piggybank for now while you try to make him see reason

You should also understand where your husband is coming from: in some cultures, the 'worth' of the first son/husband of the first daughter is their ability to fund everyone's lifestyle without complaint while their own immediate family suffers.

It is a recurring theme so you re-orientate him in love and harmony to see that his family can and will survive without his handouts.

Wow. So much wisdom. Well-done

Spot on

franchasng:
Most Nigerians and black people don't have sense at all, when they are in position of authority, they act like God forgetting that they will never be in power forever, now what will happen to you and your generation and people when you go out of office Black people think for once angry

Between 1966 - 1972 or so, Gowon was the Military Head of state of Nigeria who decides what happens to who in Nigeria but today he is a side looker who cannot do anything to stop the killing of his own people.

What about T. Y. Danjuma He was the all and all that decides who would live and who will be killed in Nigeria back then but today he is powerless as he watches his people being slaughtered in the most gruesome manner.

Or have we all forgotten the Almighty IBB the dreaded Military Leader that held Nigeria in his palms for more than a decade but now he is only sitting powerless in his home in Niger State grinning in pains.

Oh I forgot the deadly no nonsense President OBJ. The man that used EFCC to silence anybody against his political will, today he has turned to a wailer wailing from his powerless home in Abeokuta.

President Buhari and his people and supporters should know that Buhari can never remain in power forever. At most 2023 Buhari will become powerless ordinary man. How will he be remembered by that time

Power is transient, if u are in power now, use it for good because u won't be there forever!

It is not wise to see fire and deliberately put your hand inside. So many women regretting in marriage today are wishing they saw such signs or attitudes before they married their husbands. You have been fortunate to see this from the beginning, be wise.

Career / Re: A Science Related Degree But Interested In TV Broadcasting Job, Advise On How To by Cryxtal(f): 10:17am On Aug 05, 2016
I rarely comment on Nairaland. Your questions made me login which I haven't done for a year. I am an On- Air Personality/ broadcaster in one of the most reputable stations in Southern Nigeria. And by God's grace, I have had merit awards in this career. Interestingly, I never studied Mass Communication. I have a B.Sc in Biotechnology, (currently taking a PGD in Mass Com tho). I had no idea I could even broadcast. Till I met someone who saw the gift in me I had no idea I had. I was taken as an intern without pay into AIT/Raypower Fm where I got trained on the job. I developed a passion for broadcasting and so I stuck without the pay. But today, I have 4 years experience and I am highly paid for it.

If you are really passionate about this, you may have to pay the price. Get yourself attached to a station and learn, while you work a part-time job. When you eventually gain the experience and develop a unique talent, stations will bid for you. Sometimes we do things not for the present and an instant reward, but for the future with huge opportunities and gain.

learoce:
I hold a good degree in a science field that has nothing to do with mass communication, but I am interested in a TV broadcasting Job. Please any advise on how to go about this? Or any useful links that can brush and acquaint me with the skill set and know how of such job?
