The difference between the Third Mainland bridge and Muhammadu Buhari 2nd Niger bridge is that Babangida did not start the third mainland bridge unlike the 2nd Niger bridge that was started and completed by Buhari.

The Muritala/Obasanjo regime started the construction of 3rd mainland bridge and Shagari completed the first phase of the bridge (Ebute meters to Island) while Babangida completed the second phase.
