Politics / Wike's Men Say They Prefer To Work For Bola Tinubu Over Peter Obi by Ctorch: 6:29am On Aug 26, 2022
Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is said to be canvassing support for Peter Obi

The former president is of the opinion that it is the turn of the southeast to be president and Obi is a competent politician
Obasanjo has also reached out to the Wike's camp in PDP, but associates of the Rivers governor reportedly prefers Bola Tinubu of APC

London - A report by Punch newspaper indicates that former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has made a case for the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Confirming the meeting between Obasanjo and Wike on Thursday, August 25, a member of the Rivers governor’s camp, disclosed that the meeting was about the 2023 presidential election.

When asked by if there was a possibility of an Obi/Wike alliance, the source said:

“Obasanjo is working on that, but many of us (Wike’s camp) prefer Tinubu. Tinubu has a political structure and base. Although Obi is ‘Obidient’, he doesn’t have a structure and base. Obi’s candidacy will only rub off on the PDP’s stronghold.”

Another close associate of the Rivers state governor said Obasanjo hinged his support for Obi on the need for the southeast to produce the next president.

The source stated:

“You know Obasanjo; if he believes in something, he works for it. His presence at the meeting was to convince Wike to support Obi. He believes the Labour Party’s presidential candidate is competent.”

Veteran journalist condemns Nigerian politicians for meeting abroad
On her part, a veteran journalist and Chief Executive Officer of Arise TV, Ijeoma Nwogwuwgwu, has condemned Nigerian politicians for having meetings outside the country.

Sharing a picture of the Wike's PDP faction meeting the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Nwogwugwu wrote on her Instagram page:

“It is really disheartening that Nigerian politicians are jetting thousands of miles away to negotiate possible alliances. Couldn’t these meetings have all been held back home? More significantly, Peter Obi who has tried to sell himself as distinct from the rest, is no different.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about self-interest and not what is best for Nigeria. Sometimes, I often wonder why we kill ourselves and lose precious sleep over these politicians. They’re all the same…. Selfish, desperate, insincere, lying bunch.”

Cubana Chiefpriest is a liar. He should tell us where in Anambra he was attacked by Unknown Gunmen.

In a bid to exonerate Imo state the point of attack the over pumped fat boy now wants to use Anambra as his target point whereas Governor Soludo has been on a serious cleansing in Anambra state for long.

Last time we read buses carrying passengers was attacked in Mgbidi , they tagged in anambra state and do many other scenarios.

Chief priest should be guided in trying to tarnish the image of anambra state which soludo had been on his toes fighting the insecurity head on.

History of Nnewi: "Digbo who was said to have been the progenitor of Nnewi came from Iduu (Benin). He was said to have crossed the Niger with a number of followers, arrived first at Oraifite from where they moved to a place known as Oyo, very close to Nkwo Nnewi Market. It “was from there that he went out with his followers to occupy the various Nnewi territory, Digbo later married and established the present four quarters of Nnewi – Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi. Of the nine significant movements of people which, according to Professor Onwuejeogwu 7, accounted for the distribution of people in Igbo cultural area, the Iduu (Benin) movement of 18th century across the Niger was the last.

It occurred at a time when Nnewi and its monarchy of Digbo dynasty had existed for over two hundred years, therefore, have been the movement that led to the foundation of Nnewi Town named after the father of Digbo. Ijezie himself rightly noted that this Tradition have conclusive evidence that Digbo was of Benin (Iduu) origin'

Business / Innoson Vehicles Sues Imo State Government Over N2.5B Debt by Ctorch: 5:07pm On Jul 29, 2022
PRESS RELEASE

Innoson Vehicles Sues Imo State Government over N2.5B Debt

Nigeria's indigenous vehicle manufacturing company, Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing (IVM) has filed an over N2.5B lawsuit against the Imo State Government under the headship of Senator Hope Uzodinma over its failure to pay or service the debt of N2,547,666,435.00 (Two Billion, Five Hundred and Forty-Seven Million, Six Hundred and Sixty-Six Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty-Five Naira) being the purchase price of the various IVM Vehicles including their parts which IVM manufactured, sold and delivered to the State Government but Imo State Governor or its government has refused and failed to pay same despite repeated demands and appeals.

The lawsuit which was filed by Prof Joseph N Mbadugha, SAN, FCPA of McCarthy Mbadugha & Co, the counsel to Innoson Vehicles coming against repeated attempts made by the Chairman of Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing, Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma OFR, to the Governor urging him to pay the company on the vehicles sold, and delivered to the State Government.

For the avoidance of doubt, sometimes in April 2021, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma invited the Chairman/CEO of Innoson Vehicles, Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma to the Imo State Government House, Owerri where they discussed and agreed that Innoson Vehicles would sell and supply various specifications of its brand of Vehicles to the State Government which includes, interand supply various specifications or its brand of Vehicles to the State Government which includes, inter alia;

1.70 units of Innoson 5 Seater double cabin pick-up (IVM Carrier) 4WD

2. 10 units of Innoson 5-Seater double cabin military

pick up (IVM G12) 3. 10 units of Innoson 5 seater single cabin military pick-up (IVM G12)

4. 100 units of a complete siren with public addressing system, revolving light, and street police light,

5. 2 Units of IVM Ambulance Vehicles

6. 20 Units of IVM G12 MS11

7.20 sets of B. Canopy

The above vehicles which were valued at over N2.5B ($6.3M) were supplied in good faith to the Imo State Government based on an understanding with the Governor which arose after a special request that Innoson Vehicles grant the State the favor of paying for the vehicles after deliveries to them and which request was granted and honored.

The special and privilege request granted to the Governor turned into a nightmare for Innoson Vehicles and Its Chairman after Chief Chukwuma had at various times through several visits, phone calls, messages, and submission of letters requesting payment appealed to the Governor and his conscience to make total payments or set up a payment plan that will offset the debt.

The inability of the State Government to pay the aforesaid purchase price of the vehicles supplied has resulted in Innoson Vehicles having difficulties in aforesaid purchase price of the vehicles supplied has resulted in Innoson Vehicles having difficulties in fulfilling its loan repayment obligations to Keystone Bank Limited and Bank of Industry. These Banks granted their credit facilities at the rate of 10% interest and other fees therein. More so, it has led to the loss of profit arising therefrom and the accruing interest.

It is also interesting to note that as of July 27th, 2022, the over N2.5B worth of vehicles supplied to Imo State Government in April 2021 under the leadership of Hope Uzodinma with a dollar value of $6.3M is now worth $3.8M. Even if the money is paid today, the value of the money has depreciated by over 40%.

It is therefore based on this premise that Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd has begun the process of recovering its debts against the Imo State Government by slamming a lawsuit of over N2.5B with an interest rate of 10% on the entirety of the sum claimed at the High Court of Anambra State, Nnewi Division.

Politics / Osun Is A Poor State, Gather Technocracts Not Looters- Deji Adeleke To Ademola by Ctorch: 8:50am On Jul 25, 2022
Osun is a poor state, gather technocracts not looters- Deji Adeleke to Ademola

The Pro Chancellor, Adeleke University, Dr Deji Adeleke has told his brother, Senator Ademola Adeleke that he, Deji, will expose the Osun state’s governor-elect if he derailed from the development agenda promised the people.

Speaking at the 8th undergraduate and 4th postgraduate convocation of the University, the business magnate, the governor-elect has no reason to fail the people that trusted him with the mandate.

He added that he has counselled him (Ademola) and his team that anyone whose interest is to steal state resources must be allowed to make the cabinet.

His words: “I told the governor elect (my brother) and his colleagues that they are lucky because they do not have any godfather to refund any money to, so whatever people contributed for the election is contribution and it’s a sacrifice for a better Nigeria, for a better State, so the governor-elect and his colleagues are not under any pressure, the only thing they need to do out there is to go and serve the people.

“And I threatened them that I will be the first to call the press conference if I see things going wrong with his government, I will be the first to alert the world that your governor has derailed. I’ve also told him and his team not to allow anyone that is not ready to serve, anyone that his focus is to come and look for money to steal from the poor people (Osun is a very poor state) into the team”.

While counselling the new graduates, he urged them to live an accountable life in order to hold leaders accountable for their acts in public offices.

According to him, we just held an election in Osun State, forty-five polling units disappeared, young NYSC presiding officers did not show up in their designated polling units, meanwhile people were waiting to vote but the material, result sheet and BIVAS machine was taken to somewhere else.

“Untill a Director started calling to make sure that those people reported to where they are supposed to, otherwise my brother wouldn’t have been the governor-elect today. And those who allowed themselves to be used were NYSC young people, it’s not Commissioners in INEC, people blame INEC but forgotten that it is the young ones that have been entrusted in this responsibility are the one wrecking their (your) own future. Because if you cannot hold a government accountable then we don’t have any future in this country.

“So please our young ones, do remember what you’re taught here, remember that the future of this country depends on you, seize up that future, make sure you register to vote, make sure that any government you don’t want or that is not serving right in your constituency is voted out, do not participate in bringing down this country, participate in all things that will bring up this country to the desired country that you want”, he said.

In his convocation speech, the Vice Chancellor, Professor, Solomon Adebola said 25 of the graduates bagged first class degree honours, 468 bagged second class upper, 260 had second class lower while only 9 graduated with third class.

He added that the University graduated 28 Ph.D students, 55 with Master’s degrees, one with MPhil Ph.D and three students of Post Graduate Diploma (PGD).

Politics / How Ebubeagu Killed My Seven Brothers In My Presence – Survivor by Ctorch: 6:44pm On Jul 21, 2022
On Sunday, 14 youths who were returning from a traditional wedding at Awo Omamma in the Orun East Local Government Area of Imo State were allegedly shot dead by the state-owned security operatives, Ebubeagu. In an interview with our correspondent, CHIDIEBUBE OKEOMA, a survivor, Nnamdi Nnanna, explains how his seven brothers were killed by the security operatives

A  survivor of the Sunday killing at Awo Omamma in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, Nnamdi Nnanna, has explained how operatives of the state-owned Ebubeagu security outfit allegedly shot seven of his brothers dead in his presence.

The PUNCH had on Wednesday reported that the family of two siblings killed alongside 12 others on Sunday while returning from a traditional wedding at Awo Omamma in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, had called on the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba; and the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, to ensure justice.

Narrating how his seven brothers were killed, the emotionally laden borehole driller, Nnanna whose immediate younger brother, Chijioke Nnanna, was the one who wedded traditionally on that day, told The PUNCH that but for the grace of God, he would have been a dead man.

He said that he pleaded with  the Ebubeagu security outfit to spare his wife.

The father of two said that while the suspects shot dead his six brothers who were on three motorcycles ahead of him, he told his other brother who was driving him and another person to make a U-Turn.

He said that the Ebubeagu security operatives came after them and eventually met them, shot the driver dead and shot the other on his left arm.

Nnanna said,  “As we finished the traditional wedding ceremony, we set out to go in four motorcycles. Three motorcycles were ahead of us while we drove behind. Before you could know it, the Ebubeagu people opened fire and killed the ones ahead of us. As I noticed that, I told the driver of our motorcycle to make a turnaround and the Ebubeagu people came after us.

“As we sped, we got to a road bump and fell down. They caught up with us and immediately shot dead the driver and shot the other person on his arm. I immediately started shouting, telling them that we were not criminals nor ESN people.

“As they approached, I identified their leader and asked him not to kill me. One of them had already cocked his gun to shoot me but he ordered him to stop. I was bundled into their operational vehicle, tied and blindfolded.

“They took me to their camp at Omuma and locked me. I kept telling them that I was not a criminal, that my immediate younger brother did his traditional wedding and we were returning home from Awomama. They then brought me out and asked me to take them to the venue of the traditional marriage.

“We went there and they equally took me to the compound of our traditional ruler and later brought me back to their camp where I spent the night.

“It was in the morning that they brought us out and asked us to start smiling that we were going home. They gave me back my phone but refused to give me back my charger and Bluetooth device which they collected.

“I want to call on every lover of justice to come to my rescue and that of my family. We have committed no crime. No provocation. My brothers were killed for nothing.

While the Imo State Police Command had said that the incident was under investigation, the state government said that those who were killed were bandits and terrorists.

The killings attracted reaction from the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra which called for the disbandment of Ebubeagu in Imo State.

MASSOB made its position known in a statement issued by its leader, Uchenna Madu.

The statement read in part, “They are primarily established as a witch-hunting outfit to fight political enemies and pro-Biafra agitators who are non-violent.

“MASSOB described ESO as evil and an agent of death established by the Imo State Government.

“MASSOB warns Governor Uzodimma to immediately disband his ESO now or we shall see their activities in Biafra land as a declaration of internal war. The so-called ESO must cease their operation in Imo State now.”

However, the Governor of Imo State,  Uzodimma, on Tuesday dissociated Ebubeagu from the operation that led to the killings which he blamed on the Department of State Services.

The governor said the operation, according to the information available to him, was targeted at bandits and not wedding guests as alleged.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Oguwike Nwachuku, read in part, “Governor Uzodimma said the state government would not be deterred by propaganda and blackmail in her quest to protect the lives and property of Imo citizens.

“He spoke on Monday after the Imo State Security Council meeting with regard to the alleged incident that took place at Awo Omamma on Monday that led to the death of some bandits.

“Governor Uzodimma said the government had been briefed on the incident by the Director of State Services in an interim report made available to members of the Security Council.

“The Governor added that the DSS Director confirmed that his men carried out an operation in a camp at Awo Omamma with the assistance of their informant and not at a wedding place as claimed by the youths and that it was in the process that some bandits were neutralised.

“He said while the Security Council awaits a detailed report on the incident, it is important that the public must be wary of those using the incident as a propaganda tool to blackmail the security agencies and the government.”

The Ebubeagu security outfit was established on April 11, 2021, following the burning of police stations, violent attacks on custodial centres with the unlawful release of inmates, and the killings of security personnel, natives, farmers and herdsmen in the South-East region.

This was after a meeting attended by the governors of Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu states. Also present at the meeting were Navy and Air Force Commanders, the Inspector-General of Police, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other stakeholders.

South-West population 65% Muslims – Tinubu campaign DG

The Director General of Asiwaju Tinubu Presidential Campaign Organisation, Adebayo Shittu, has claimed that Muslims make up 65% of the southwestern part of Nigeria.

He made this assertion in an interview on AIT, during the Focus Nigeria show, on Tuesday.

Shittu was justifying the decision of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, to pick a fellow Muslim, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.

Tinubu, who is a southern Muslim, had incurred the wrath of the Christian Association of Nigerian, some party members and political stakeholders when he announced Shettima as his running mate.

Justifying his principal’s choice, Shittu maintained that southwestern Nigerians were predominantly Muslims.

“In the South-West of Nigeria, the Muslims constitute an average of 65%,” of the population, the lawyer asserted.

When asked if his claim was based on fact or projection, he said, “I don’t tell lies. You can investigate. Do your research.

He added, “It is on the basis of religion that people are making noise about the so-called Muslim-Muslim ticket

“In Ekiti, it is Christian-Christian ticket. In Ondo, it is Christian-Christian ticket. In Edo, where the Northern part of the state is largely Muslim, it is Christian-Christian ticket. Nobody is making noise about this.”

Also speaking on the APC’s loss in the Osun State governorship poll, Shittu noted that the defeat of the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola, was a very big disappointment.

The former Minister of Communications said, “The Osun incident was a very big disappointment. But for some of us, it was not too surprising and I regret to say this.

“A lot of factors must have contributed to what happened.”

On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said Adeleke got a total of 403,371 votes to beat Governor Oyetola who polled 375,027 votes in the keenly contested race.
