Politics / House Of Ebubeagu Commander Burnt, Wife Killed In Ebonyi by Ctorch: 3:18pm On Jan 01, 2023
House of Ebubeagu commander burnt, wife killed in Ebonyi

All seem not to be well in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, following the burning of the house of the Afikpo-South Ebubeagu Commander, Oyeku Kalu Chima located at Owutu Edda community by suspected hoodlums in the area.

The ugly incident, which took place on January 1st, 2023 at about 2:30 a.m also led to the brutal murder of his wife Urenwa Kalu Chima.

She was shot dead, according to an eyewitness account.

Ebonyi State Police Command, which confirmed the incident added that “it has not been established who perpetrated the dastardly act; however, the said Ebubeagu Commander alleged that it was one Okporie Ashango and his cohorts that did it.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aliyu Garba, has directed that immediate investigation be activated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to unravel those behind the crimes.

“Further to that, detectives of the SCIID and operatives of the Command’s Tactical Teams have taken over proceedings in the area as the CP orders that the perpetrators must be fished out and brought to book pronto.

“It is rather unfortunate that mischief-makers are still fomenting fracas in the state in spite of the grace of witnessing a new year!,” the Police spokesman added.

The murder of the Ebubeagu Commander ‘s house at Owutu Edda community and the killing of his wife were a fallout of the killing of three persons last December at Ekoli-Edda community of Afikpo South LGA of Ebonyi.

The rate of killings going on in Ondo state currently is beyond human analysis.

Lives means nothing to them there again. To fight all these insecurities there should be a new order entirely.

APC government has totally lost it. Insecurity everywhere. May APC never happen to Nigeria again. Never again.

Politics / Residents Flee Ondo Communities Over Killer-herdsmen Attacks by Ctorch: 7:03pm On Dec 28, 2022
The residents of Ijagba, Imoru and Arimogija in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State have raised the alarm over the incessant attacks on the communities by suspected killer-herdsmen.

In a ‘Save our Souls’ message to the state government, the residents who are mostly farmers claimed that the killer-herdsmen had been terrorising the communities for over two weeks, killing and destroying properties worth millions of naira.

It was gathered that the herdsmen had allegedly been destroying farmlands and crops which included yam, maize and cassava in the affected communities and if the farmers resisted them, they would attack them.

A source in one of the communities on Wednesday stated that the herdsmen who always kidnapped the residents of the community for ransom had warned them not to go near their farms and local plantation.

Consequently, according to the source, many residents had abandoned their homes and relocated from the affected communities to the neighboring towns and villages for fear of further attack.

The source said, “They recently entered into a house and kidnapped a young girl just hours after they released a man from their captive after collecting ransom which was negotiated from N10 million to N1 million.

“For fear of the attacks, some of the residents of the communities have left the area. We want government and the police to save us in this area.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in state, Funmilayo Odunlami, said the command had not been briefed about the incident but men of the force would be mobilised to the communities to ascertain the true nature of happenings.

Somewhere in Imo state.

Imo state, Imo state is now a dungeon of all forms of evil. The border area continues to be weak. Soludo should tighten against this infiltrators.

It is now a heinous crime to share border with over zealous criminal extremist. Ihiala not safe because of Imo infiltrators same as Uli and others.
We can't continue like this.

The whole of Orlu and Orsu have shown that criminality is just a beacon they lean on. It is very hard to come across anyone that is not criminal minded in that zone. Tufiakwa.

Politics / Joy In Ebonyi Honours Late Gen Sani Abacha, In Grand Style by Ctorch: 7:09pm On Dec 24, 2022
Ebonyi State Government has concluded it’s maiden edition of the State Honours Award with over 300 prominent Nigerians from all over the country as recipients.

Among those honoured at the grand finale held Thursday night at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, was former President, Dr GoodLuck Jonathan who received the honour of Grand Commander, Ebonyi Hall of Fame, GCEHF.

The Late Military Head of State, General Sani Abacha was also honoured posthumously as GCEHF for being the instrument for Ebonyi State creation in October 1996. Other honourees included the Chief of Staff to President Mohammadu Buhari, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari; Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; two former Governors of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose as well as former Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji.

Governor Umahi also honoured his predecessors, Chief Martin Elechi and Senator Sam Egwu as well as the first Military Administrator of the State, Navy Commander Walter Feghabor, among others.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the special guest of honour, in his speech, congratulated Governor Umahi for the feats he has attained in political leadership.

Buhari, whose speech was delivered by his representative, the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, noted that Governor Umahi’s administrative policies are in tandem with the three core pillars of Buhari’s administration: Economy, Security and anti-corruption.

He commended Umahi for his commitment to security in the Southeast, his unprecedented infrastructure and his Agricultural policies which he observed, have made Ebonyi one of the largest producers of rice in the country.

The President emphasized that Governor Umahi’s exemplary leadership has marked him. out as a bridge builder who transcends Party and sectional sentiments in fostering a one united Nigeria.

Buhari added: “May I congratulate all the awardees, and also His Excellency, Governor David Umah, not only for the vision of establishing these awards so that the recipient will be spurred on to give more of their contributions to the society but also for the Governor’s exemplary leadership that he has demonstrated in the transformation of the State.

“He is indeed an achiever, a great achiever, and a role model in the relationship between the federal and State government on what heights a State can achieve if given very limited resources.”

President Buhari called on all Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the ideals of the founding fathers of the country for a peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria.

Former President GoodLuck Jonathan in his remarks described his award as a further Strengthening of the agelong bond existing between Bayelsa and Ebonyi State.

While noting that awards are relevant in appreciation of those who have contributed to a people, he cautioned recipients to continue to live worthy of the attributes that attracted the awards.

The former President, however, made a case for a legal amendment empowering the federal government to withdraw national Honours from holders found wanting in character and conduct.

“Talking about awards, I want to say, probably, when we are making laws, at the federal level, there should be an amendment empowering the president or the State Governors to strike off such Honours”

While pledging the indebtedness of the honourees to Ebonyi State for the gesture, Jonathan commended Governor Umahi saying: “Mr Governor, you are doing well, you have performed.”

Others who spoke at the event, including the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam and the Chairman of Ebonyi founding fathers, Chief Francis Orji, joined the teeming guests and Ebonyi citizens to.pour encomiums on Umahi for the award initiative and his transformative leadership.
Imam described Governor Umahi as: “a miracle worker; a performer and an achiever.”

The Chairman of the State Merit Award Committee and Ebonyi Deputy Governor, Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, while laying the background for the event, traced the hill and valley experiences through which the State passed to its present enviable state.

He commended the founding fathers, Governor Umahi and his predecessors for their selfless sacrifices.

“Tonight is the night to tell the story of how we overcame” Igwe submitted.

Governor Umahi, prior to the award night, had taken former President Jonathan and other dignitaries around some of the mega project sites where the former president commissioned some of the completed projects.

Jonathan also officially laid the foundation stone for the ongoing Olympic Stadium in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, named after late General Sani Abacha

Yoruba community in Awka coronates new Oba, gets Soludo’s assurance

The Yoruba Community in Anambra State, at the weekend, coronated the third Oba of Awka, Alhaji Abdul Olahan, popularly called Ezechinedu, (Leader led by God) by his admirers.

Before him were Oba Owolabi I and Oba Oseni II whose transition took place about a year ago. The new Oba, who has spent 68 years in Awka, was barely two years when he was brought to Awka by his late mother, Alhaja Afusat Olahan, to join his late father, who was a tailor, Hamzah Olahan, from Ede town, Ede North Council of Osun State.

Speaking after his coronation, the new king assured that the Yoruba ethnic group would continue to remain peaceful and supportive of the government at all levels. The renowned fashion designer, fabrics and estate management entrepreneur pointed out that the new position is an added responsibility on him to lead, with God’s wisdom, to resolve issues, as well as bridge gaps between people who disagree.

Politics / I Denied Labour Party The Stadium For Rally As It Was Under Maintenance-Obaseki by Ctorch: 5:06am On Nov 12, 2022
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Friday, explained why his government denied Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP) the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium for a rally in the state.

Obaseki said the Edo government received notice 24 hours before the event, adding that the notice for approval arrived too late.

He disclosed this while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday.

According to him, he thought the LP were more serious and expected more from the party.

Obaseki said, “Well, there are several venues in Benin for rallies, I heard that they [Labour Party] applied on Wednesday night to hold a rally at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Friday morning, giving us one day’s notice.

“The tracks in that stadium are still under warranty. The pitch has to be maintained in a certain mode. So it is not just another facility you just can go in and use without preparing. If they knew they had a rally on Friday morning, why could not they give more time and notice so we could give them the conditions under which they could use the pitch.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obaseki’s party, had used the stadium for a rally on October 22.

“The same thing we did to the PDP when they wanted to use the pitch. And the only reason why we allowed the PDP rally was because it was used as an opportunity to commission that facility. Otherwise, most other rallies are held in other large grounds around the city,” Obaseki added.

“I expected more from the Labour Party. I thought they were more serious, you cannot be planning for a rally on a Friday and be giving less than two days.

“I spoke to my friend Peter Obi the night before he told me he was coming to the state, and we offered him all the courtesy, including security and some logistics, but I did not know they were coming for rallies.

“For me, the issues did not even come to me. The people at the sports commission knew what to do, and they did it professionally.”
