Crime / Breaking- Another Traditional Ruler Abducted In Imo State. by Ctorch: 9:31pm On Dec 15, 2021
Traditional rulers in Imo State have become endangered species and target of kidnap.

In the last one month, no fewer than five monarchs have been abducted in the state.

The latest being the traditional ruler of Umuezeala- Ama ancient kingdom in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state, Aloy Igwe, who was said to have been kidnapped on Tuesday evening.

A source said the monarch was abducted at Nkwo Umuezeala Market while conversing with his kinsmen.

According to the source, the gunmen stormed the market and ordered the monarch into their vehicle.

“They stormed the market and ordered the traditional ruler to move into their vehicle. He had no option than to obey them”, the source stated.

Gunmen had last Sunday abducted two traditional rulers, Eze Acho Ndukwe and Eze Paul Ogbu, setting ablaze their palaces.

While Eze Ndukwe was rescued a day after, the whereabouts of Eze Ogbu had remained unknown.

They had earlier on December 9, kidnapped the traditional ruler of Mbutu ancient kingdom in Aboh Mbaise LGA, Eze Damian Nwaigwe and his counterpart from Atta ancient kingdom in Njaba LGA, Edwin Azike.

While Azike was later found dead, Eze Nwaigwe regained freedom two days later.

That came on the heels of the kidnap of the traditional ruler of Achi Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA, Eze Henry Madumere, on November 19.

The monarch who is the father of the former deputy governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere was released six days after.

These were among other attacks on traditional rulers in the state.

JUST IN: Two Imo Monarchs Abducted, Palaces Set On Fire The onslaught on traditional rulers in the Southeast continued on Sunday with the abduction of two monarchs in Imo State.

After whisking away the royal fathers, the gunmen also burnt their palaces and vehicles. The affected traditional rulers are Acho Ndukwe of Amagu Ihube and Paul Ogbu of Ihitte Ihube, both in the Okigwe Local Government Area of the state. The gunmen also kidnapped the youth leader of umulolo Okigwe whose name had not been ascertained as of the time of filing this report. Community sources told our correspondent that the operation lasted from 12 midnight till 1am on Sunday. One of the sources said, “It was something else in the early hours of Sunday.

They came in Hilux vehicles and kidnapped the two monarchs and burnt their palaces and vehicles. “They also kidnapped the youth leader of Umuololo- Okigwe. Eze Ndukwe is the chairman of Council of Traditional rulers in Okigwe LGA. “He is also the chairman and CEO of Genesis Hotel, Okigwe. Nobody can comprehend this attack. The communities are bewildered, highly confused.”

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Mike Abattam, disclosed that the command had commenced an investigation into the incident. There has been a rise in attacks on the traditional institution in the South-East in recent times. The traditional ruler of Atta ancient kingdom in the Njaba LGA, Edwin Azike, was kidnapped on Thursday and killed on Friday with his corpse dumped at the market square.

The traditional ruler of the Mbutu ancient kingdom, Damian Nwaigwe, was kidnapped on Thursday and released on Saturday. Also, the traditional ruler of Achi Mbieri, Henry Madumere, was kidnapped on November 19, on the way to a public function at Iho in the Ikeduru LGA. On October 19, hoodlums invaded Njaba LGA council headquarters at Nnenasa and shot at traditional rulers who were having a stakeholders meeting. While two traditional rulers sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to a hospital, two others were killed.

Travel / UAE Official Lied, Air Peace Says As Row Over Flight Slots Deepens by Ctorch: 6:22pm On Dec 12, 2021
Nigerian airline, Air Peace, has rejected claims made by aviation authorities in the United Arab Emirates, on why the country decided to deny it flight slots in the Middle-East country.

The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority had on Friday described Air Peace’s request for three slots instead of one it was given at the country’s second busiest airport, Sharja Airport, as “unreasonable”. It advised the airline to make up for the shortfall with flights to any other airport in the country that has available slots.

Earlier, Dubai-based Emirates suspended all its flights to Abuja and Lagos after the Nigerian government retaliated against the UAE’s treatment of Air Peace and cut Emirate’s slots from 21 to one.

The matter has threatened diplomatic relations between the two countries, and on Friday UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority said Air Peace pulled out of Sharja Airport and should not expect to retain its flight frequency there.

“Air Peace initially operated at Sharja Airport, shifted to Dubai Airport and then returned to Sharjah airport. It would be unreasonable for an airline to expect any airport to maintain their slots when they ceased operating at that airport,” it said in a letter to Nigeria’s aviation minister, Hadi Sirika.

“In this regard, we wish to kindly advise you that Sharjah Aiport is currently operating at 140% slot, but with goodwill and tremendous effort on their side, this airport was able to accomodate Air Peace with 1 of the 3 slots this airline requested.

“The GCAA wishes to stress that the action being taken by the NCAA is obviously not in line with the spirit of the agreed air services arrangements between our two Nations. As we are both aware, the relations between our two brotherly countries are vintage, one hallmark being the recent visit of the President of Nigeria to the UAE, which certainly ignored the status of these positive relations.

“Finally, we suggest that Air Peace should consider flying their two other flights to any UAE airport at which there are available slots. As expected, the GCAA will support Air Peace in this activity, if required.”

Air Peace denounced the UAE’s claims, and accused its officials of falsehood. The airline, in a letter on Saturday, demanded apologies and a retraction.

Read Air Peace Letter to Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika:

11th December 2021

The Honourable Minister of Aviation,

Sen. Hadi Abubakar Sirika,

Ministry of Aviation,

Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

Dear Sir

RE: AIR TRANSPORT RELATIONS – THAT LETTER TO YOU FROM UAE – A DELIBERATE FALSEHOOD

Our attention has been drawn to a letter written to you by the UAE Minister of Economy who also doubles as the Chairman of their GCAA. The said letter is dated December 10, 2021and referenced GCAA/C/29-2.

The said letter is now in the public domain and has gone viral hence our decision to write you and place the true and unassailable facts on record.

Sir, we wish to state that Air Peace, as a responsible corporate citizen of Nigeria, has utmost and unflinching respect for the exalted office of the UAE Minister of Economy and nothing will ever distract from that.

However, we take very serious exception to that letter. We believe that the Minister and the Chairman of the Board of the GCAA may have been misinformed of the true position of the issues in discourse as no one in such an exalted position and office would deliberately push out such untrue statement. He has our respects, but his letter has misinformed the public about the real facts against us.

We do not see what wrong Air Peace has done in this whole saga. We are the ones being wronged and now we are being attacked from a quarter we least expected.

Facts don’t lie.

In aviation, there are things one cannot lie about. Operating into and out of an airport is one of them. When did such flight operations occur? Which slot did we operate? For an airline to conduct scheduled operations into and out of an airport, there are agreements signed with several parties, executed, and implemented. There is need for the authority to provide the Ground Handling Company that handled the scheduled operations in Dubai Airport (DXB) for Air Peace.

FACTS DON’T LIE.

Air Peace has only operated flights into Sharjah Airport alone. The letter went further to deliberately damage our perception in the eyes of the unsuspecting public by stating “it would be unreasonable for an airline to expect any airport to maintain their slots when they ceased operating at that airport”!

FACTS DONT LIE.

Sir, Air Peace has never been given slots at the Dubai International Airport. Slot availability was used to deny us operating from that popular airport as it was our first choice.

It was the politics of slot unavailability that did not allow us to operate into Dubai Airport directly. The lack of flight slot angle forced us to approach the Sharjah Airport as a last resort. We were welcomed by the government and people of Sharjah.

While we were denied slots in their most important airport, the Dubai Airport, Emirates has always enjoyed red carpet treatment in Nigeria where they were given our most important airports- Lagos and Abuja where they operate a total of 21 flights weekly!

We only asked for three flights weekly at the Sharjah Airport and we got same and started operations on the 5th of July, 2019 until Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020. Contrary to the letter, Air Peace never ceased operating from Sharjah International Airport since we started in July 2019.

We only stopped when every other airline was forced to stop normal scheduled flight operations as a result of the Covid-19 lockdowns that permitted only evacuation flights.

We did several evacuation flights out of Sharjah. So, we never left Sharjah Airport nor did we at any time “shifted” and operated out of DXB (Dubai Airport). The letter deliberately painted us as unserious while at the same time, suggesting that we look for other airports in the country to operate from.

After the restriction of scheduled flight operations between UAE and Nigeria was lifted towards the last week in November 2021, we approached the Sharjah Airport and GCAA with a request to allow us to operate a charter into the UAE on December 01, 2021.

To our surprise and, despite the lifting of the ban on flight operations between both countries, they refused. They said they would not allow charter but scheduled flight operations. However, we then, in obedience to their demand, announced resumption of scheduled operations beginning from that date and we opened our sales to the public. Three days to departure, they were yet to approve the flight.

They came back 48hours to our expected departure to UAE denying us slot to operate the flight. When we pressed on, they told us that they would accept us only if we did not bring a wide body aircraft but a small one. We had 250 passengers to transport and using a small aircraft as they suggested was impossible.

It took your intervention and that of the Presidency before they approved that we come in on the said December 1st but not without another unfair order. We were told that we must land at 9.00am their time, not before 9.00am and not after 9.00am. Unbelievable! On our request to continue with the scheduled operations after this present flight, we were turned down using lack of slot as excuse.

Meanwhile, Emirates had started operating three flights daily into Nigeria while Air Peace was totally turned down! You would recall Sir, that you mounted serious pressures on them urging them to see reasons, but they never bulged. Then, at your threat of going to stop them if Air Peace was not allowed a meagre three flights weekly, THEY QUICKLY DID THE UNTHINKABLE. THEY GAVE US ONE FLIGHT ONLY PER WEEK!

They also added that it must be operated only on Thursdays at a time that they chose themselves. No one would patronise an airline doing only one flight a week to a destination where one has the option of another airline doing 21 flights a week to the same destination. This is not about Air Peace alone but about our dear country Nigeria that has been massively disrespected by these intrigues.

We reiterate that there was never a time did we ever operate at Sharjah and stopped, shifted to Dubai Airport, then returned to Sharjah again as the letter stated. Honourable Minister Sir, we deserve and demand a retraction and an unreserved apology from the author of that letter.

We do not want to join issues in the public space with them as it is unhelpful to both countries. To this end therefore and, for the fact that this falsehood contained in the said letter has painted us in bad light and gone viral, even though the UAE Minister of Economy may have been misinformed by his aides, we, still, and humbly demand a retraction of the offending accusation of “stopping, shifting and returning” and an unreserved apology tendered to Air Peace.

We thank you for standing up for our dear nation.

Yours Faithfully,
FOR: AIR PEACE LIMITED

"TROOPS DISPERSE RAMPAGING IPOB/ESN HOODLUMS CARRYING OUT ARSON IN AWO- MMAMMA

Troops conducting Exercise GOLDEN DAWN have dispersed IPOB/ESN hoodlums carrying out arson while enforcing the illegitimate Sit-at-Home order imposed by the proscribed group at AWO-MMAMMA Community, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State on 22 November 2021. In the quest to compel citizens to comply with the unlawful order, IPOB/ESN criminals indulged in harassment, intimidation and physical abuse of commuters going about their lawful businesses. The criminals went further to carry out arson and destruction of businesses and homes at Ishieke junction (along Owerri-Onitsha express way) as a vendetta against the citizens for not complying with the illegal order. The hoodlums who had earlier blocked the highway, set ablaze a commercial vehicle heading towards Onitsha. Vigilant troops responding to distress calls by motorists and shop owners swiftly moved to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a firefight.

The troops overwhelmed the hoodlums forcing them to scamper in different directions. The troops pursued the hoodlums to their hideout in Akatta Community in Oru East LGA, where a member of the group was neutralized in the shootout. While the troops engaged the hoodlums in their hideout, other members of the group who alleged that some individuals had volunteered information to the troops mustered at Ishieke junction and set ablaze houses and businesses of law abiding citizens. The troops again returned to the junction to disperse the hoodlums.
Unfortunately, a galant soldier paid the supreme prize in defence of the people. It is on record that since the sad events of 5 April 2021 when some unscrupulous elements invaded the Custodial Centre in Owerri and freed more than 1,800 inmates, there has been an upsurge in criminalities such as kidnapping, car jacking, robbery, unwarranted killing and arson in Imo State. These criminal elements have since then wreaked havoc in the State and its environs. Even in the face of unwholesome propaganda by IPOB/ESN, other criminal elements and their collaborators to misinform and mislead Nigerians on the truth regarding the arson at Awo-Mmamma, the NA will continue to remain professional. The NA appeals to the good people of Imo State to ignore the propaganda and threats by IPOB and its affiliate groups, who despite their deceitful calls cancelling the monday sit at home order, have continued to intimidate and harass citizens who come out to do their legitimate business.

Travel / Anambra Importers Now Use Lagos Seaport - Rivers Operators Cry Out To FG by Ctorch: 9:21pm On Nov 22, 2021
Clearing and forwarding operators in Rivers have called on the Federal Government to upgrade the Port Harcourt seaport to enable it meet current demands in cargo handling.

Mr Jose Lok, Managing Director, Ports and Terminal Operators Nig. LTD (PTOL) said this on Monday while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Port Harcourt seaport was constructed over 100 years ago.

Lok was represented at the event by Mr Jonathan Njoku, Cooperate Affairs Manager, PTOL.

He said that an upgrade on the Port Harcourt port had become imperative as the facility could no longer accommodate further surface dredging.

“Our challenges are numerous but among the greatest are the draft; we have a very shallow draft, not more than nine meters and there is a limit to which a port could be dredged.

“The Port Harcourt port is over 100 years old, we even wanted to dredge it but the foundation is no longer conducive for further dredging“, he said.

He said other factors such as poor access roads, truck holding bays and poor security within the seaport were constraining businesses at the facility.

“If our ports here in the south are well secured, vessels will come, importers will be confident in bringing their cargoes.

“Right now most importers from Anambra especially Awka and Onitsha areas take their cargoes to as far as Lagos state where they have more confidence in safety of their goods,” he said.

The PTOL boss therefore urged relevant authorities to beef up security at the ports and their host communities.

“For instance, if importers spend a lot on security, they will be left with no option than factor it into prices of their goods and the end user now pays for whatever they may have spent.

“Goods down south will be cheaper than what we currently have if those security expenses which i described as needless are appropriately handled by relevant authorities.

“I call it needless expenses because in other ports, especially the Lagos ports, importers don’t make provision for security, they don’t spend money on security of their vessels and cargoes.

“We understand that no matter the model, insecurity cannot be eradicated but we are calling on relevant authorities to employ measures to ameliorate it,” he said.

Culture / Hierarchy/ranking Of Yoruba Obas - Alake Of Egbaland by Ctorch: 6:11pm On Nov 21, 2021
Hierarchy/Ranking of Yoruba Obas - Alake of Egbaland

ABEOKUTA—The Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, yesterday, declared that the Ooni of Ife remained the highest in the ranking of Yoruba obas.

Oba Gbadebo, who stated this while receiving the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi in his Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State palace, said the Ife monarch is the highest of the five principal Obas in Yorubaland.

The Ooni, who arrived the palace of the Alake of Egbaland around 3:35p.m. with the retinue of his officers, was received by Oba Gbadebo at the entrance of the palace in company of his wife, Dr. Tokunbo Gbadebo, and the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa.

The Ooni listed the Alaafin of Oyo and the Oba of Benin as second and third, respectively, in the order of ranking.

He listed his own title, the Alake of Egbaland as the fourth while the Awujale of Ijebuland occupies the lowest rung of ladder.

The Alake however, identified ego as the cause of disunity among traditional rulers and peoples in Yorubaland.

He said the promotion of selfish aggrandizement had been the bane of development in the area.

According to him, it had become imperative for the people of Yorubaland to continue to accord the necessary respect to the institution of the Ooni of Ife.

While speaking on the recent visit by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the Ooni of Ife in his palace , the Alake said Obasanjo has demonstrated respect for culture , who, inspite, of the age difference prostrated for the Ife monarch.

The Alake also commended the Ooni for the humility he has continued to exhibit since his ascension of the ancient throne.

In his remarks, Ooni Ogunwusi lamented the lack of unity among the traditional rulers in Yorubaland.

He stressed that the move towards achieving unity in Yorubaland has commenced since his coronation as the Ooni of Ife.

Ooni emphasised that love and unity of purpose ought to precede the much agitated progress of Yorubaland, promising that he and other traditional rulers in Yorubaland would pursue the goal.

Politics / Anambra Regular Absent From South East Meetings, No Longer Healthy. by Ctorch: 6:04pm On Oct 14, 2021
The much talked about meeting of Southeast leaders with the Forum of state governors from the zone has come and gone without any earth-shaking resolutions on how to stave off the mounting crisis of security in the area.

In attendance were four out of the five governors of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states that make up the zone. While the Imo State governor’s decision to attend the meeting in Enugu with a convoy of troops and a couple of Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) went down as a worrisome metaphor of the state of fear in Southeast, the total absence of Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano from the crucial meeting exposed the subsisting stalemate in the forum.

It would be recalled that shortly after Governor Obiano succeeded Mr. Peter Obi as governor, his desire to step into Obi’s shoes as chairman of Southeast Governors’ Forum was rebuffed by other state governors, who contended that the position of chairman was not by inheritance.

Again, shortly after the 2015 general election when new set of governors were elected in Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu, Obiano’s argument that he had become senior to Governors Okezie Ikpeazu, David Umahi and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi did not hold water, because the governors decided on holding an election among themselves.

And, given that the then Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, belonged to the opposition, it was obvious that there was no way he could win an election that three voters belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At the end of the day, Ebonyi State governor, Umahi was unanimously elected to chair the regional body. Four years on the saddle, another attempt was made to review the leadership of the Governors’ Forum, with some governors kicking that since the office of chairman was rotational another state should take over.
However, knowing the attempt by Okorocha to seek for a rotation of venue, which was defeated, when the Enugu State governor was nominated to take over, Ugwuanyi said it was not proper for his state to serve as host and yet preside over the forum.

The Enugu State governor was also said to have argued that there was no reason to change a winning team, noting that his Ebonyi State counterpart has been doing an excellent job and showing great political leadership skills.

But the 2023 elections and positioning may have altered all assumption.

There is now mutual suspicion among the governors on who the zone should present for 2023, coupled with the desperation over Anambra governorship election. This is affecting cohesion in the zone.

The mutual suspicion and climate of envy played out during the plans to establish a common security outfit for the geopolitical zone called Ebubeagu. Governor Umahi’s elder brother, General Obi Umahi, was forced to resign his appointment when it became obvious that some of the governors were foot-dragging on the security plan.

It is against that background that the Southeast Governors’ Forum always witness scant attendance during meetings, with particular governors electing to second their deputies instead of attending in person.

Although the governors extended their rivalry to the Southern Governors’ gathering, the recent meeting summoned by the Ebonyi State governor to discuss the security situation in Southeast, it was believed, presented a golden opportunity for the forum to speak in one voice.

Prior to the meeting, observers expressed doubts that Governors Uzodimma and Obiano would attend. Perhaps, in it was in the light of that general feeling of doubt that Governor Umahi in his memo to the governors begged his colleagues to “please attend in person.”

Uzodimma

Alluding to their penchant to absenting from meetings convened to deliberate on issues bordering on peace building, security and socio-economic interest of NdIgbo, Umahi urged his colleagues to desist from sending representatives to crucial meetings.
In the notice of meeting and invitation to attend the planned gathering of Southeast leaders, including the leadership of Ohanaeze NdIgbo, traditional, religious and political groups, Umahi informed the governors that the October 5 meeting was to discuss very pressing matters.

In the invite, copy of which was sighted by The Guardian, the Ebonyi State governor stated: “Our leaders begged that I request all governors of Southeast to please be present at the time and not on representative capacity, so that together we should reach some decisions to salvage our region that is presently battling with high rate of insecurity.

“May I therefore request that you endeavour to attend this meeting for the sake of NdIgbo.”

According to the statement, apart from the five state governors, other dignitaries expected at the meeting were leaders and heads of religious and traditional institutions.

No sooner was the invite sent than the wife of late Ikemba Nnewi, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, made a passionate plea on her state governor, Obiano to endeavour to attend.

In her statement titled, “Governor Obiano, Please Attend Tomorrow’s Security Meeting,” Iyom Ojukwu contended that the October 5 meeting was convened “to discuss the worsening state of insecurity in the zone, particularly in Anambra State.”

She had stated: “Anambra State has become a crisis point as a result of the impending guber election. All Southeast governors have been requested to attend in person and not in representative capacity. I am appealing, together with all concerned citizens of Anambra to our governor, Chief Willie Obiano to physically attend this meeting.

“Anambra is boiling. It’s no longer just a matter of unknown gunmen…. even politically motivated and other opportunistic killings have now become subsumed under this heading…

“Anambra State is in mayhem; people are postponing funerals and other activities and many Anambra indigenes resident abroad are cancelling their Christmas return trips. I am appealing to Governor Willie Obiano, who is yet again, planning to send his Deputy to represent him, to reconsider this approach. This is not business as usual.

“As our governor, he is the Chief Security Officer of the state. If he is hale and hearty enough to undertake ceaseless sightseeing excursions to the Anambra Airport Construction site, I believe it will not be too much to ask that he sacrifices some of this precious time to attend this important security meeting for the sake, not only of Ndi Anambra, but Ndi Igbo as a whole.”

But, despite the entreaties, Governor Obiano was inexplicably absent, neither did he send a representative. Although The Guardian learnt that the governor was bogged down with earlier scheduled campaign meeting in his country home, the alleged plans by his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, to defect to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), perhaps did not dispose the governor to delegating his deputy.

Yet, following the negative backlash that trailed his conspicuous absence, Governor Obiano was alleged to have declared that he kept off the meeting to avoid sitting in the same room with those allegedly foisting insecurity in Anambra State. Insisting that his absence should not be interpreted as a sign of his insensitiveness to the welfare and safety of the people, Obiano maintained that he did not want to “be in the same meeting with the governors sponsoring the bloodletting.”

While some commentators pointed accusing fingers in the direction those who appear desperate to produce an APC governor in Anambra State, Obiano said the controversy over his absence was a huge distraction.
The governor, who made his stance known through the Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ifeatu Obiokoye, argued that “noise” was being sponsored by “desperate politicians, who were out to justify the sponsorship of their benefactors.”

The SA Political stressed that the killings in Anambra State were politically motivated to create voter apathy in the state so as to enable the sponsors to manipulate the electoral process to their advantage.

While disclosing that his principal has already installed a fool proof security architecture to arrest the security challenge, Obiokoye stated: “Did you really expect my governor would be meeting, and dining with some persons ostensibly funding and sponsoring insecurity and terrorism in Anambra State?

“What people are saying goes to no issue in the first instance because it is a public knowledge that those doing the killings are not from Anambra State and no Anambra person would go to this extent.

“These people are from outside Anambra State and those sponsoring them are from outside Anambra State and you expect the governor to be holding meetings with them on security challenges which those people are executing?”

Responding to the innuendo from Anambra State governor, the APC governorship standard bearer, Senator Andy Uba, declared that it had become public knowledge that Obiano has failed to rise to the challenges of insecurity in the state.

Based on the crisis of confidence within the Southeast Governors’ Forum, it is left to be seen, how far the governors would play as a team to contain the challenges of governance and crippling security concerns in the geopolitical zone.

Politics / DSS Arrests Chinwetalu Agu by Ctorch: 5:56pm On Oct 08, 2021
BREAKING: DSS arrests Chinwetalu Agu

According to Nwonwu, Agu is presently in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

“Chiwetalu Agu is still not free.
He is with DSS now. Colleagues say they are looking for a top lawyer to bail him,” Nwonwu wrote on his known Facebook page on Friday.

Recall that there were widespread reports on Friday that Agu had been released by the Nigerian Army, following his arrest on Thursday, for wearing Biafra regalia.

Agu was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State. His manhandling and subsequent seizure was strongly condemned by majority of social media users. The army came out to say it arrested Agu for soliciting support for the proscribed separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

A statement put out by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu had said: “Troops of Nigerian Army (NA) have arrested one Chiwetalu Agu while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“Dressed in a very well known attire of the proscribed group, Chiwetalu Agu was picked up for questioning while inciting members of the public to join the proscribed group. Though he attempted puting up some resistance when troops made effort to take him into custody, he was not assaulted or subjected to brutalization.

“While the NA recognizes the inalienable rights of the citizenry to freedom of movement and expression as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is apparently a violation for any individual or group to incite the public to cause mayhem or break down of law and order. It is therefore pertinent to state that while exercising such freedoms, it must be done within the confines of the law, bearing in mind the imperative for peace, and national security.”

But now, a top media practitioner has claimed the entertainer has still not regained freedom

Politics / Killers Of Dr Chike Akunyili Are Not From Anambra- Gov Obiano by Ctorch: 4:16pm On Sep 30, 2021
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State is convinced that the killers of Dr. Chike Akunyili and at least seven others, at Nkpor, in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State this week, are "invaders" from outside the state.

The gruesome murder of the widower of Dora Akunyili, who served Nigeria to international and local acclaim from 2001 to 2013, has sparked outrage, with President Muhammadu Buhari warning afterwards that the perpetrators of the heinous act would face the judgment of man and that of God.

In his assessment of the incident, Obiano said: “I urge all citizens of the state to unite in this fight against all forms of terror, intimidation and tyranny.

"We will not succumb to invaders, as I am convinced that no Anambra son will indulge in this kind of heartlessness.

"I warn all those promoting and participating in these violent attacks to leave our state or pay a high price as we will definitely catch up with them.”

Obiano has placed a N20million bounty on the heads of the murderers of Akunyili.

Much of Nigeria's southeastern region has been subsumed in violent and murderous attacks in recent times, most of whom have been spawned by the militant arm of the separatist and outlawed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).

IPOB has been enforcing a sit-at-home directive in the southeast region since its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was re-arrested in June.
