The police in conjunction with Osun State Government have rescued Opeyemi Olatoke, 20, locked up for five years by her father in an abandoned house at Alfa Fire, Ikirun in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Father of the young woman Samson Olatoke has also been arrested.

A statement on Monday by the Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs Olubukola Olaboopo obtained by Igbere TV said the case was reported to her office by a non-governmental organisation Value Female Network.

Mrs Olaboopo said; “The ministry and the police swung into action, we went to the house where the 20-year-old girl was locked up by her father. The father disclosed that he locked up the girl because she was physically challenged. The victim’s mother informed us that Opeyemi’s health started to deteriorate when she shouted from her sleep at age four and since then she was lame.”

According to the statement, founder of the NGO Aderibigbe Costly explained that an anonymous source disclosed the information to the NGO and that the suspect fed his daughter “once in a while”.

Olaboopo urged parents to take good care of their children, adding that parents found maltreating their wards will be dealt with lawfully.

Police have arrested 4 member syndicate of suspected kidnappers in Kano after rescuing the victim unhurt, Igbere TV reports.

The suspected kidnappers’ group led by a woman, Maryam Mohammed, alias Hajiya aged 23, operated before their arrest in Zamfara and Kano, according to a statement issued by Kano Command Spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna on Wednesday.

Others members of the suspected criminal group are Sani Ibrahim, 35, alias, Mailafia, Shamsuddeen Suleiman, 21 years old, both of Butsa Village, Gusau LGA, Zamfara State and Ishaq Khalil, alias Baban Basma, 32 of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Fagge LGA of Kano State.

Bauchi State Government has pledged to rehabilitate the tomb of Nigeria’s first and only Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Asma’u Giade made the commitment during the annual memorial lecture and prayers for the late prime minister organised by the state government in Bauchi on Friday, Igbere TV reports.

The tomb’s complex was taken over by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) and converted to a national monument, jointly managed by the federal and state governments.

“The complex was neglected for decades by past governments. The present administration had set a plan to renovate the place so that it could attract more tourists from within and outside the country.

“I will not forget to also acknowledge First Bank of Nigeria Plc who declared interest to contribute toward the renovation of the tomb,” Giade said.

She added that the governor Bala Mohammed had last year declared January 15 as a day of prayers for the late Balewa, saying that the State House of Assembly had made a legislation to make the day official.

In a remark, Yakubu Balewa, the eldest son, commended the Bauchi State Government for the initiative to honour hs father.

“My precious son Joshua Oluwakimbati Melaye is plus one today. And the child grew in wisdom, knowledge and understanding. God bless you son,” he said.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to place a travel ban on US President Donald Trump over his role in the Capitol building riot.

In a statement on Monday, MURIC director Ishaq Akintola said Trump “stained” America’s reputation as a great democracy by his acts.

The group also berated Buhari for being silent on the Capitol riot, noting the US government might have imposed sanctions if such happened in Nigeria.

“MURIC calls on the Federal Government to speak up on the American debacle. America’s condemnation of African and other third world countries has been deafening enough to attract a tornado of backlashes at this moment,” Igbere TV reports that the statement read.

“We are not happy that FG has remained silent. China, Turkey, and Iran have spoken up. The voice of Africa must also be heard and the continent is looking unto Nigeria to lead the way.

According to her, the suspect has been arrested and detained after the failed attempted to inject her son.

In a video she shared on social media, Deborah said this occurred after the management of the Deeper Life School claimed that her son was HIV positive, hence his weight loss.

Davis' mother who showed the hospital of the arrested doctor in a video she shared, said her son's hospital has been changed.

She also disclosed that the arrested doctor took her son's blood sample when he was enrolled in the Deeper Life School, and claimed he came to assist the doctor in the hospital he (Davis) was admitted in after being nabbed.

A 20-year old mother has been arrested in Kaduna for killing her one-year-old daughter.

Faith Alhassan threw her child in the well allegedly to enable her marry her former boyfriend who was not ready to accept her with a baby.

Faith, who is a Secondary School certificate holder, said has no idea what came over her.

Kaduna State Police command disclosed that on 28th December 2020 at about 7 am, the corpse of a baby girl was found in a well at Gantan village of Kachia local government area of the State.

The police further informed that, upon receipt of the report, an investigation was carried out and it was discovered that the mother of the dead baby girl was the culprit, The Nation reports.

According to the police, the culprit went into Gantan village with her baby girl to meet her former boyfriend by the name Dolan Yakubu whom she jilted years back.

The police said Faith told them that while at her ex-boyfriend's house, his father complained of the baby so she went quietly in the night to dump the baby in the well.

Speaking to journalists at the Kaduna State Police Command headquarters where she is currently undergoing investigation, she denied killing her daughter because she wanted to marry her former boyfriend, Igbere TV reports.

The young lady who said she stays with her grandmother, also disclosed she doesn’t know the whereabouts of her dead daughter’s father.

When asked why she was at the police command, she said, “I am here because of my daughter that I threw into the well and she died. I don’t know what came over me when I carried out the act”.

Asked whether it was because she wanted to marry her ex-boyfriend that she killed her daughter, she said in tears, "I did not kill her because I want to marry, I just don’t know what entered me, I am not happy for doing it."

“The true position is that, indeed, 17 corps members that completed the 2020 Batch “B” Stream 1B Orientation programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State, on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, boarded vehicles heading towards the northern part of the country,” the statement said.

“Tragically, along Jere-Abuja Expressway, they were accosted by a gang of armed robbers whose sporadic gunshots unfortunately felled corps member Bomoi Suleiman Yusuf.

“It is imperative to state that the 16 other corps members were never abducted.”

Commiserating with the family of the deceased, the NYSC said “the death of any corps member is a big loss, not just to his family, but to the scheme and the entire nation at large.”
