Hello guys, which is better and why; a TA or a RA? |
omojehovah:Who FG scholarship is this? Please Ignore if you've already answered this, I'm still reading missed posts. |
ddbluv1:These are the kind of insensitive individuals that make getting the US visa difficult for Nigerians. Please just receive small sense and stop being so brash to quote the VO about your intending illegal actions. You didn't even stop there, you proceeded to disclose the illegal actions of your Nigerian friend to the VO. In order words, reaffirming the VOs extant skeptism about visa applicants from Nigeria. Please get small sense, please. |
Hello bosses, Is it necessary to include a mini thesis proposal in your SOP for admission purpose? |
xcellinking:Hello bro. Have you began work? |
Vickenny:Are you applying for winter or for fall? I think GRE would be better if you're going for Agric Economics. Check with the school though. |
marcuskens:OK. Thanks for the insight. |
biikeys:Wow! OK. Thanks for the insight. |
Peradventure, is there anyone here who has studied and lived in both US and Canada? I need your input on this. How easy/difficult is it to change from a study permit to a post graduate work permit in Canada compared to changing a student visa to an H1b (temporary work) visa in the US. The goal is not just to study overseas but also to work for a few years before returning, say 3 years. Cc Everyone |
Hello guys. I need your input on this. After completing a 1 year Master's program, is it possible to keep extending the 1 year post graduate work permit that follows to like 3 years? Is there some other means to legally convert a 1 year post graduate work permit to, say a 3years permit or even a PR? |
slimmy2005:Wow! Thanks for the response. Wouldn't have known this. Thanks again. |
LagosismyHome:OK. Thanks for the insight. I have started considering Canada for a while now because of this issue. On the OPT, is it given for all courses? True, I learnt that STEM courses have a longer OPT duration so it will buy them time. But other courses...like in the social sciences, do they get OPT too? Is it harder for social science folks to get an h1b compared to STEM folks? Can one apply for an OPT without getting a work first? If no, how many days or months after the termination of one's studies does one have to get a place to work before applying for the OPT? Please pardon my many questions o. The goal is not to just cross border for me so I have to factor all these in before hand. |
LagosismyHome, since you've lived in both countries, I think you should be in a good position to answer this. How easy/difficult is it to change status from student visa to H1b visa in the US compared to changing from student visa to *Tier 2 visa in the UK? * - I'm not sure I got the name, Tier 2, right but by Tier 2, I mean temporary work visa just like the H1b of the US. |
gokuu:Speaking of the H1B Visa... Is it still running with the lottery system? What recent ammenent has been made to it? Have they passed the bill to increase the minimum annual payment to foreign workers so as to discourage companies from filing for foreign workers? How tough has it gotten in general terms to get a company to sponsor you for the visa in 2017? To be honest, the American dream for me is to work for about 3 years in the US before returning and necessarily to become a permanent resident. Cc Everyone |
Gracee101:Just like in the case of Canadian visa, you should indicate if you've been denied a visa before on the Ds 160 form. However, depending on how the interview goes, the VO may or may not touch the issue of previous denial. If he/she raises it, truthfully discuss everything as filled on the form and if it isn't raised, it's best to stay mute on that. You should go through past transcripts to understand how the interview usually goes. There are a number of links available now https://www.dropbox.com/s/dawoicv7y9cofif/COMPILED%20VISA%20TRANSCRIPT%20Part%2011%20-%20Up%20to%20Pg%20331.docx?dl=0 Another link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vv0a0sfgaysztiq/AADbiS4UG7q57b0qcFPjaPkna?dl=0 link to delayed visa transcript https://www.dropbox.com/s/3nq0ft9sr52twe7/DELAYED_VISAS_PART_7.pdf?dl=0 |
icool, I sight you! ![]() How is it going at Texas? Hope you weren't affected by the hurricane and/floor I've been hearing everywhere? Stay safe and enjoy man! |
Who knows how longnit takes to get called for interview? I just came to Lagos for the test, I don't want to have to travel back and then get called for interview. I want to do it before I travel back. I really hope I get called this week. |
Who wrote the test on the 22nd August and has been called for interview? |
femi312: I don't think the guy will be one stern person in 'real life'. He's simply an individual with dogged ideologies which will be reflected in his actions and not words. I'm guessing he's expressing those words here simply because this is a faceless forum. In 'real life', he won't be as mean as he sounds here, I'm guessing. This is just my opinion of baba T, it may or may not be correct. It's just an opinion. |
I benefited from the 50% discount offer. I am so grateful to Walspring and the initiators of the offer. God bless you guys. This thread is indeed a GEM. |
xcellinking:Pls send the Baron's GMAT to deebliss2017@gmail.com. It's urgent Pls. |
Walspring, please check your pm too. |

I have been following your posts for a while now and you don't come across to me as someone who would shy away from something because others are running away from it. Did the fact that others failed to get an admit or funding from USask stop you from applying? Or should one decide to travel by road instead of air simply because others have died by plane crash? Obviously No! Stop discouraging people from going through this route because it is a tad more difficult. The reason why people go via the PGD route is because of low CGPA. Getting into a Master's program with low CGPA in some fields is as difficult or even more difficult than getting a TRV with a PGD Admission. Yes, they should know that it is difficult to get a TRV via the PGD route but they should also know that some people get it. They should also know that it is difficult to get into a Master's program with low cgpa but they should also know that it is not impossible. So let them choose their poison. In fact, with the way you magnify the difficulty associated with the PGD route, one will erroneously jump into conclusion that getting a TRV with a Master's Admit is like a walk in the park. Like someone rightly pointed, we should join heads together to figure out how PGD applicants can prove to the VOs that they're legit rather than imbuing them with doubts about their application. |
Sugaro:Cc Frankrobbn1 |
Frankrobbn1:The gurus have given their advices on your case. I am only a learner here. All the best in your next app. |
It's amazing to find out older people do visit here. I had the impression that most of us on here are in our early or late twenties but with the way at which people have been mentioning admission processing for their kids, I have disavowed that notion already. Well, I haven't been disrespectful to anyone so far and I'm glad. Good morning daddies and mummies in the house! |
Frankrobbn1:Hello bro, since the school won't waive the ESL program for you, I suggest you take another IELTS. This time strive harder to meet the requirements needed. This is a far more cost effective way of handling that, you spend about #75k which cannot be compared with 3500CAD. Lastly, does this your uncle truly want to sponsor you? Or you just want to use his SOA to get the TRV? |
vinci500:Congrats on the TA issue. If you don't mind, what school and what program are you going for? What aspect of you application do you think made you bag this TA position? Did you make a separate application for the TA position or all applicants to the school are considered? Congrats again. |
poesy:That's surprising o. So if one applied to only that school, he/she wouldn't have began the trv application by now. It's a Master's program right? To those that applied to UOttawa for Fall 2017, how early did you get your admission decision? Is UOttawa infamous for late admission decision? I intend applying for Fall 2018, I don't want to wait for ages to get a decision. Finally how generous are they with finding? |
femi312:Exactly! |
chinemomah2020:So true. |
poesy:Hello, Is this Admission for Fall 2017 or Winter 2018? If it is the former, does it mean that UOttawa doesn't make Admission decision on time? Lastly, were you offered any form of funding? |
