Its a FG full funding not canadian school. I didn't submit any statement of account. The proof of funding letter and award letter was enough to offset worries on financial matters.
Who FG scholarship is this? Please Ignore if you've already answered this, I'm still reading missed posts.

Same thing I reasoned at the last second, its just that some friends I have do it even in school. 1 guy I met here on nairaland is in school and works 2 jobs from the first semester, off campus job, and he gave them his SSN with no shaking. Dude dey pack ego no be here, >$1200 plus per week while me on OPT don't even earn upto that. It's like I'm slacking here.
These are the kind of insensitive individuals that make getting the US visa difficult for Nigerians. Please just receive small sense and stop being so brash to quote the VO about your intending illegal actions. You didn't even stop there, you proceeded to disclose the illegal actions of your Nigerian friend to the VO. In order words, reaffirming the VOs extant skeptism about visa applicants from Nigeria. Please get small sense, please.

Hello, please i would like to apply to University of Saskatchewan and University of Manitoba for MSC in Agric Economics (Research based). Have done my findings and those are the two schools that best fit my course. My CGPA is 3.63/5 although I think for the last two years it is more because I sent my result to University of Saskatchewan, it was rated 77%. My question now is do you think I should write a GMAT to increase my chances of getting an admission especially to Manitoba? Thank you
Are you applying for winter or for fall? I think GRE would be better if you're going for Agric Economics. Check with the school though.

Hi Cupsy
If you are already employed within the original 1year PGWP, then you can extend it to the 3yrs cap before it expires. You can't just convert your work permit to PR. The PR process is administered through the express entry depending on the route you choose to pursue your PR.
OK. Thanks for the insight.

Lottery system..yeah. Any amendment in the works would only seek to make it even more difficult to get a visa. A figure that would give you an idea is H1B applications declined by about 37k for the first time in recent years...main reason I advise people to go for job-ready courses if you plan to apply for H1B. The reality doesn't hit you until you're close to graduation.
And..PR in 3 years? Very few companies do that.
Wow! OK. Thanks for the insight.

Peradventure, is there anyone here who has studied and lived in both US and Canada? I need your input on this.

How easy/difficult is it to change from a study permit to a post graduate work permit in Canada compared to changing a student visa to an H1b (temporary work) visa in the US.

The goal is not just to study overseas but also to work for a few years before returning, say 3 years.

Hello guys. I need your input on this.

After completing a 1 year Master's program, is it possible to keep extending the 1 year post graduate work permit that follows to like 3 years?

Is there some other means to legally convert a 1 year post graduate work permit to, say a 3years permit or even a PR?

Yes, you can. Technically, you can apply 2months before graduation in as much as you've signed your exit form. It's usually not advisable to apply in a rush if you don't have a job yet or you've not gotten interviews or prospect. Start shooting for jobs during your final semester. It takes like 90days to get your OPT card.

NB: it beats me why international student apply for opt and pay the mandatory $420 when you can apply for a waiver? All those I've advice have never gotten any reject (more than10 candidates). The form is readily available, make use of it. Just prove to them you can't afford to pay the money, there are loads of cogent reasons considering the state of the nation under Fulani rule.
Wow! Thanks for the response. Wouldn't have known this. Thanks again.

i belive times have gotten harder in both countries .... when i started this hussle H1b was a lot easier and so was Tier 2...... now both are not easy , although some people still break through that all i can say

Tier 2 is hard at the moment . companies dont want to file . i think the difference is with US the one year opt still gives you a bit more time to find and Stem but Uk no post study except phd.. That uk no post study is a no no for me. wont advice anyone hustling go there. canada instead of UK as its more surer for PR but jobs appear to be fewer there
OK. Thanks for the insight. I have started considering Canada for a while now because of this issue.

On the OPT, is it given for all courses? True, I learnt that STEM courses have a longer OPT duration so it will buy them time. But other courses...like in the social sciences, do they get OPT too? Is it harder for social science folks to get an h1b compared to STEM folks? Can one apply for an OPT without getting a work first? If no, how many days or months after the termination of one's studies does one have to get a place to work before applying for the OPT?

Please pardon my many questions o. The goal is not to just cross border for me so I have to factor all these in before hand.

LagosismyHome, since you've lived in both countries, I think you should be in a good position to answer this.

How easy/difficult is it to change status from student visa to H1b visa in the US compared to changing from student visa to *Tier 2 visa in the UK?

* - I'm not sure I got the name, Tier 2, right but by Tier 2, I mean temporary work visa just like the H1b of the US.

Pardon me for taking a moment of levity. It wasn't meant as a slight, I was just being realistic.

I think it's important to also consider the career prospects when applying to graduate programs; you want to know about graduate recruitment and the possibility of getting an employer that can sponsor you for the H1B especially if you want to stay over in America and garner work experience.

This is even more important because republicans have total control of the US government and have vowed a very muscular immigration policy.

I guess I just think there are other considerations that we want to look at.
Speaking of the H1B Visa... Is it still running with the lottery system? What recent ammenent has been made to it? Have they passed the bill to increase the minimum annual payment to foreign workers so as to discourage companies from filing for foreign workers? How tough has it gotten in general terms to get a company to sponsor you for the visa in 2017?

To be honest, the American dream for me is to work for about 3 years in the US before returning and necessarily to become a permanent resident.

Lol...just nervous as such information is needed in canada visa form when applying.
Just like in the case of Canadian visa, you should indicate if you've been denied a visa before on the Ds 160 form. However, depending on how the interview goes, the VO may or may not touch the issue of previous denial. If he/she raises it, truthfully discuss everything as filled on the form and if it isn't raised, it's best to stay mute on that. You should go through past transcripts to understand how the interview usually goes.

I have been following your posts for a while now and you don't come across to me as someone who would shy away from something because others are running away from it. Did the fact that others failed to get an admit or funding from USask stop you from applying? Or should one decide to travel by road instead of air simply because others have died by plane crash? Obviously No!

Stop discouraging people from going through this route because it is a tad more difficult. The reason why people go via the PGD route is because of low CGPA. Getting into a Master's program with low CGPA in some fields is as difficult or even more difficult than getting a TRV with a PGD Admission.

Yes, they should know that it is difficult to get a TRV via the PGD route but they should also know that some people get it. They should also know that it is difficult to get into a Master's program with low cgpa but they should also know that it is not impossible. So let them choose their poison. In fact, with the way you magnify the difficulty associated with the PGD route, one will erroneously jump into conclusion that getting a TRV with a Master's Admit is like a walk in the park.

Like someone rightly pointed, we should join heads together to figure out how PGD applicants can prove to the VOs that they're legit rather than imbuing them with doubts about their application.

It's amazing to find out older people do visit here. I had the impression that most of us on here are in our early or late twenties but with the way at which people have been mentioning admission processing for their kids, I have disavowed that notion already. Yes that's true, ESL program costs 3500CAD aside from tuition fee of 8,800CAD. Thank you so much for your advice. I'll look around and see if there is any school.

Most schools in Canada like colleges strictly accepts students for only fall semester.
Hello bro, since the school won't waive the ESL program for you, I suggest you take another IELTS. This time strive harder to meet the requirements needed. This is a far more cost effective way of handling that, you spend about #75k which cannot be compared with 3500CAD.

Lastly, does this your uncle truly want to sponsor you? Or you just want to use his SOA to get the TRV?

I have just been awarded a TA by my institution, effective 31st August 2017, this is expected to cover a substantial amount of my tuition. I am yet to get my TRV despite applying much much earlier. Should I send a mail to CIC attaching the letter to see if that would make them speed things up?
Congrats on the TA issue. If you don't mind, what school and what program are you going for? What aspect of you application do you think made you bag this TA position? Did you make a separate application for the TA position or all applicants to the school are considered?

Congrats again.

My dear, Fall 2017. Letter came out August 12 (Dated August 10th). No funding and they want me to pay fees by August 30th. I don't know if the admission decision time is a general thing or just a peculiar case.
That's surprising o. So if one applied to only that school, he/she wouldn't have began the trv application by now. It's a Master's program right?

To those that applied to UOttawa for Fall 2017, how early did you get your admission decision? Is UOttawa infamous for late admission decision? I intend applying for Fall 2018, I don't want to wait for ages to get a decision. Finally how generous are they with finding?

Please, how do I view and download my UOttawa admission letter?
Hello,

Is this Admission for Fall 2017 or Winter 2018?

If it is the former, does it mean that UOttawa doesn't make Admission decision on time?

Lastly, were you offered any form of funding?
