And, have you tried to contact any prof in either school? They use those questions to determine applicant's research potential or achievement. Display either of these, and you're game. Plus you stand a better chance of a prof fighting for your case, if you can see one to rapport with during application.

Hello Guys,

I've come up with 2 schools I want to apply to.
1.) Suny-Albany
2.) Suny-Binghamton

Both schools are in New York.

Pls hope one mumu VO won't be skeptical about issuing me a visa in an erroneous thinking that I desperately want to go to New York for some other reasons?

Then for Suny-Albany one has to fill a seperate form if interested in GA or TA. Does this necessarily imply that chances of funding would be slimer? And on the form questions like; do you belong to any professional org?, previous scholarships or the likes, publications or some sort, are already seeming scary. Pls is this normal?

Pls your opionions would be highly appreciated so I'd know if I still have to keep school-hunting huh

Not exactly as I'd like: V - 161, Q - 165, but I'm hoping the AW score would be better than the previous one.

TOEFL was sweet and terrible! I had 20 on the speaking section, writing 29, Reading 29 and Listening 30, I wish I can have your speaking score right now. I'm trying to complete my SOPs now, that's the last part of my application.

I had an issue tho. I was registered for 3rd Nov and not the 20th Nov date I picked. They said they're going to reschedule for me an early Dec Date; additional cost on them.

My Dilemma.

I initially planned to take the test in December. But this Dollar palava has put me in this unpleasant state sad

Called one of those agencies today (gregmattoefl guys) to find out about the price. My jaw dropped literarily on hearing an outrageous sum of #72,500 to register. They said it's cos of the Dollar tho.

However, they are currently running a promo which ends 30th of this month. The GRE goes for 50k for the duration of the promo.

Now my dilemma. I budgeted only 60k for the GRE and that offer of 50K dey tempt me. However, if I register now against 20th Nov (the farthest date), I can't say if I can get as prepared as I'd want to. (Convocation next month go still chop small time).

If I don't register now, I might have to hustle an additional 12k5 or more as dollar may keep doing as dollar does; sky rocket.

I think the rational thing to do here is to chill, and go as planned. ~~I'd try to do so~~ (icool, 2016).

I don't think you'd be allowed to take the exam in the US after picking a center in Naija. I'm not sure. The experts in the house would weigh in on that.

Except your stay there would be very very brief or you're trying to meet a deadline for an application or something, I advice you just wait till you're in the US, pick a date, a close by center, register and write over there. I don't think dates would be filling up as fast it is in Naija.

Or better still, just wait till you're back. The rigors and cost of reschedulling a date if things doesn't go as planned would be painful.

I really don't know much about those online practice tests yet. I make use of the practice tests at the end/beginning of each book for now.

I suggest you lookup kaomanfen.com suggested by SirRiddy, I saw some practice tests there. (Use Google chrome browser so you can translate to English seamlessly).

Beautiful Saturday morning it is... My TOEFL test score just came in.

R28 L26 S26 W26
Total 106

All the preparation paid off. Relieved....

I used roughly 10days, ~~jonsing for a better part of it~~ . Had been preparing for the GRE verbal, so the TOEFL was somehow covered.

How I achieved my score -
Reading: This was straight forward, only got myself acquainted with what I was expecting on test day. Got question answering and time saving tips from Notefull videos on youtube. Previous knowledge of secondary school comprehension passage came into play.
~~TOEFL Reading easy sha.~~

Listening: Was also straight forward, Used ETS official test prep materials 3 and 4 (these had audio embedded in the booklet) + Notefull videos.

Speaking: Used majorly Notefull videos for the Speaking part. Other materials were dribbling me, Notefull had a defined formular.

Writing: Used Kaplan GRE booklet that taught about grammar (before the Issue and Argument tasks). Kaplan TOEFL showed me examples of what Writing answers looked like. Helped alot. Here, Notefull and Cambridge dey dribble me.

I suggest you go through the Verbal section of the main book first then if you can spare more time, go through the Verbal workout.
