Also to the preceeding lists,u may want to add:

Bottled groundnuts,Semolina, pap, snail(fried),hair attachments like Expressions, and Medicines like antimalarials and broad spectrum antibiotics. Also Robb and/or Aboniki balm.

For those with kids:Their backpack should contain cereals(dried),powdered milk, bread(toast) with a spread, bowl, apples, cookies (u'll get hot water in the plane)and a jacket. This is necessary if the airline serves an unfamiliar food.I can just imagine the twins when they eat, whatever they've eaten and no matter how late they must still step down with Golden morn cereal.Lol!

Also; u may want to do both ur natioanl drivers' licence and the int'l driver's licence as it depends on the state u are going to.LEARN HOW TO DRIVE BEFORE TRAVELLING!!!

As for graduate school;u need to do ur transcripts, some did via WES,don't av much details as it does not apply to me.

For women; Learn how to make hair.I am taking 1-2hrs on days I'm not on call to do this as my almost 6years' old girl is so fashion conscious when it comes to hair so I nd to be able to keep up wt her and also save money.

Also don't run down ur electronic gadgets' battery down,sm1 mentioned ds but do not know why.

Yes,ur passports AND medicals MUST be in ur handbag!!!

Most impt advice I got was to save and never try to borrow, except for Mortgage as an example.Live within your budget!!!

Dekonjay: @ Felixfelix, I'm glad you like the idea. From what I have been able to gather you are allowed to carry foodstuff as long as they are dried. For example:

Egusi, ogbonor, Local Crayfish, Okporoko, Mangara, Dried fish, Ukazi, Oha, Ugwu ,Kuli Kuli, Fufu, Groundnut Oil, Palm Oil, Egusi, Garri, Pepper – soup condiments, Beans, Atanla (red hot chilli pepper) and many more

Make sure your Egusi is well blended dried and well wrapped.
Do not travel with wet food items. Usually, wet food stuff can contain organisms not native to the US. Chicken is prohibited because of Bird Flu and beef because of Mad Cow disease.
Palm oil is allowed but only in small quantity and should be in branded packages if possible.
Dried/smoked fish should be properly wrapped also in order to avoid unpleasant odours.

Personally, I won't be carrying any of those items as you can easily get them to buy over there ( even though they may be quite expensive or not as fresh as you may want) and luckily for me my host ( who is my aunty) says she has enough of those. Will be getting her some other gift item though.
We booked our tickets this morning. We will be flying BA next Thursday.
@Madam Dekonjay: tongue grin See levels!!!Na wah o!U just did ur interview and gbam next week Thursday on BA!!!Serious cash.Safe trip IJN.

felixfelix: My good people, someone who the mother filed for was asked to bring the following to her interview bt she does not know spefically places to go abt these- 1. INSURANCE POLICIES- This documents shld indicate d beneficiary (ies) named & relaship to d policyholder. 2.MISCELLANEOUS-Govt id papers,Deeds,Passports, business records, income tax returns, social security records, census records, family bible entries & records of family events. 3. RESIDENCE- Documentation showing that d parents & child primary residence was one in d same during d child's childhood. N:b These in midst of all are wht dy were asked to provide bt she does not how to go abt these. Any information or direction?
This sounds like family based IV application.I personally don't know much about the requirements but I think most have to be gotten by the petitioner from the US agencies.But if some are needed from the applicant in Nigeria,then the ffg may help;

I.Insurance policies/deeds/income tax returns/social security records/census records/family bible entries:I don't think this is popular in this part of our world.

2.Govt id papers: U can go for the National ID card.

3.Passports: U can get this easily

4.Tax card:I think u can go to internal revenue to get a e-tax card if employed.

5.Records of family records: Pictures can help in this regard and also for residence.

I hope this helps a bit.

I am just reading these posts, being kept very busy since resumption and this Ebola issue. One training after another, lol!
Its so very sad to read these last 3 days' posts but it won't take away from me the joy of Madam Dekonjay's visa approval.Congrats dear!!!

st steve has made our joys sour, his actions has made an innocent person lost the privilege of becoming an LPR,its only God that can forgive this.

Despite this,I personally know there is grace in the house, our collective fasting and prayer works. Not just for DV but for other areas of my life.I am a living testimony.Do not be deterred by actions of some people, there will always be pple like that.We should not be discouraged when opportunity for collective fasting and prayer comes up.God help us.

@ V.O: Madam welldone, big kudos to u ma.I know that the fact that the person was a Nairalander would have hurt you most.It just can't be helped since we can not vouch for everyone. This is one of the reasons that endears u to my heart that u would select Nairaland to be a forum u visit this often despite all these.God bless u and ur team.

@ all:Do enjoy the remaining part of the weekend.

Madam, how are u and ur family?Just wanted to holla u.Have a nice day and stay blessed!

Dekonjay: @lalove what's your friends case number? Eg DV2014AF00017***. It normally takes KCC up to two months to process documents after initial submission. Your friend should try calling KCC for any updates on his documents. The embassy won't be of help if your friend hasn't received his 2nd notification letter. He should try checking if he has been sent a 2nd NL at dvlottery.state.gov just the same way he got the 1st letter.
Best option will be to call KCC directly. We are almost at the end of the fiscal year, it would be wise to make that call ASAP.

alchemist13: Good evening VO. I have a concern I want to share with you. I received a call from someone who claims to work for the agency from which I applied for the DV 2014 visa lottery. He told me that I am one of the 7 lucky winners of the visa lottery before he sent me a text containing the contact details of one Mr. Joel Olaniyi, a 'Recruitment Officer' for the American Embassy in Carrintgton, Apapa.
However, I decided to check the status of the visa lottery (I had almost forgotten about it at that time) online to see if I had truly won. I found the lottery printout, followed all instructions, and found out that my entry had not been selected. So I decided to call the Mr. Olaniyi just to hear what they had to say.
What I gathered from the call has almost made me to be convinced that this is a scam. First of all, he said I would have to come to Apapa today but when I said wont be able to make it to Apapa in such a short time (the call was made by 3 PM) that I will come tomorrow, he told me i must first buy a form from somewhere in VI for N20000. Secondly, when I told him that I do not have that kind of money now, he told me that I can pay in installments. Finally, he told me that I do not need to go to VI if I can pay the first installment immediately so that he can tell his people in VI to bring the form to Apapa.
I don't know much about the processing of the visa lottery so I want to ask if this is the process or if this is a scam. Remember that from the official site (https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC/), my entry was not selected. Thank you in advance.
SCAM!!!! The agent should be arrested, period.

Hepatitis B vaccine is usually a 3-dose schedule. After the 1st one,u take the 2nd one a month after and the 3rd, 6months after.U thereafter MAY take a booster dose 10yrs after the 3rd dose especially for those at high risk like health practitioners. However, with advances in Medicine its psb that Qlife is using newer generation of the vaccines that has been approved.

VisaOfficer: Thank you sir! Safe travels. I expect to hear of great successes from you and your future family over there!

I'm going to hassle you one more time, because I can. grin I feel a sudden urge to remind everyone that American culture has a weird fixation with youth and beauty, and everyone firmly believes that the words "old" and "elderly" only apply to people at least 15 years older than they themselves are. Even if they're 70, in their hearts they will believe that only 85-year-olds are old. Even when it's patently untrue, you may want to practice looking surprised when someone (male or female) tells you their age, and saying "I never would have guessed, you look so much younger!"

Along the same lines, never ever tell anyone that they have gained weight, and NEVER ask a woman if she is pregnant, even if she is visibly giving birth right that moment.

Trust me. cool
Uhm,thanks for that advice.Adeboy oko omoge(girls' sweethearts) heed this advice o!!!lol. It tickled me that u (V.O) were the only one able to harrass/deal with Adeboy where our royal council of elders failed. cool grin wink

Visa applicant lands in police net after boyfriend helped forge visas

July 26, 2014 by Kunle Falayi

Some visa applicants nabbed at the US Consulate-General in the month of July have been handed over to the Police Special Fraud Unit in Lagos for prosecution.

According to SFU’s spokesperson, Ngozi Nsitume, a petition from the US Consulate Lagos on July 9, 2014, alleged that one Adegbola Esther appeared at US. Consulate-General for a Non-Immigrant Visa Interview with forged Canadian Turkish and Angolan visas showing entry and exit stamps.

But investigation was said to have revealed that the visas were forged by Esther’s boyfriend, one Oloni Olawale, after she paid him N100,000 for the three fake visa, to facilitate approval of her US visa application.

In another case, the US Consulate-General alleged that on July 10, 2014, another applicant, Akinlade Olugbenga, appeared for a US Immigrant Visa interview with fake name – Awoleye Tope, an individual said to have won a visa lottery.

“The suspect knowingly and fraudulently appeared at the US Embassy to steal the identity of the real winner of the diversity visa lottery,” the statement said.

A day after Olugbenga was nabbed at the embassy, another applicant, Adewole Fatimah whose real name was Adeniyi Motunrayo, was alleged to have appeared at the embassy with one Adewole Oluwaseun for a diversity visa interview. Motunrayo was said to have attempted to steal the identity of the real winner of the diversity visa lottery.

It was the same case of identity theft against applicant Omoyemi Olaiya, whose real name is Samuel Ojo and Ibenne Nkem whose real name is Ogundipe Emmanuel.

Like a harvest of fraudulent applicants, the SFU said one Babatunde Abiola and Babatunde Adenike was also nabbed for presenting forged bio-data, wedding pictures, marriage certificate and fake result to the embassy even though their real names are Oguntimehin Olanike and Aderoju Eunice.

Nsitume said, “One Aderoju Qasim and Aderoju Eunice presented forged bio-data and fake documents to the US Embassy for immigrant visas. Their real names are Oyewole Tunde and Abelese Olayinka. Both suspects fraudulently appeared at the embassy to steal the identity of the real winners of a diversity visa lottery.

“In this same month, one Christiana Omagu, a female Nigerian–American citizen, appeared before the US Consulate General to process a US passport for a male child. Investigation revealed that the suspect and her husband, Donald Omagu, were not the parents of the child, but only needed the passport to traffic the child to US.

“Finally on July 17, 2014, one Idrisu Martins, an impostor appeared at the embassy for an immigrant visa but investigation revealed that he was not the winner of the diversity visa lottery he appeared to claim.

“Investigation is on-going on these individuals. All suspects would be charged to court soon to serve as a deterrent to other intending visa fraudsters.”

Copyright PUNCH.
Was this just for the month of JulyhuhWow,wow, and wow again.

Oh,sorry about your high CN.The way they schedule the current CNs mean that those with CNs lesser than AF81,100 will be scheduled for interview as they have enough visas to cover for all of these pple.It also means that the 50,000 visas are almost exhausted and can not go round everyone.Remember that well over a 100,000 pple were notified for the 50,000 visa slots so invariably won't go round.
My advice is that since Sudan still qualifies you should continue playing the DV lottery.

Dekonjay: Good evening cute2014 and Adeboy. A lot has happened since I last posted in May but we thank God for all his mercies.
I lost my immediate younger sister after years of battling for her health. It's really been a difficult and trying period for my family. We thank God because whatever cross he gives us to carry, he also gives us the strength to bear.
That aside, our interview has been scheduled for September 2 as we changed countries early this year.

Congrats again 007, I kept on talking about your experience to my hubby the whole of Saturday. I'm sure at a point he got tired of listening to me.

Cute2014 I need to read back to catch up on what's been going on here. How are your preparations coming up?
I really appreciate that you and Adeboy thought about me while I was away. I'm back now sha... smiley smiley
Hello madam, its with pleasure that I read from u.I am so very sorry for the loss of ur sister.May God grant u and the whole family the fortitude to bear the loss.I felt it in my spirit that taking into consideration ur role in this forum u can not just disappear like that.We never had an inkling that u were in your trying moments.I know how difficult it is to take care of an illness for years, the respite is that u tried ur best.Keep the sweet memories of her close to ur heart and not the dying moments so that it will be easy for u to move on.God bless u.

On a lighter note,I'm happy to inform u that I've had my interview a day before Adeboy's and God did it.Hoping to pick up the visas on Thursday.
