@axeman, I like the way you answered your mother-in-law. How could you just come on your own when you had been adviced against it? If you had come like that, her argument would probably be, why did you come when someone from the family adviced you not to?
that story you posted is also a sad one. It is unfortunate that women also play a part in encouraging their own degradation. You would see this in households where the male children are not allowed to participate in any meaningful house work and such chores are delegated to the female children regardless of how inconvinient it is for them to do those chores.
This is no longer the era where a man solely bore the responsibility of breadwinning and the woman did the housework and caring for children alone. Women now carry out tasking jobs outside the home in order to support their families and make life easier for them. These jobs are equal to what their men do in some cases. How can the same woman who works maybe 9-5 also come home to bear the responsibility of taking care of the house and children while the man, who is supposed to be the stronger sex just sit back and do nothing? Is that fair?
@cantell,
stop confusing me with your caveman arguments. What do you mean, would I fight him if he refuses to wash the dishes? There should be understanding and cooperating between me and my husband in things like that. If he refuses to do it, then there should be a valid reason for doing so, e.g. He is too tired or he doesnt think that the division of chores is a fair one. And he can tell me this in a mature and peaceful way instead of starting a fight over it. Hope that answers your question.

Axeman, You are right and I wish there were more sensible men like you. Nigerian men tend to take what other people think of them too seriously that is why they pretend that they see nothing wrong with treating their wives like slaves just to please their male counterparts and seem like powerful men to them.
Helping your wife at home does not make you a woman or less of a man. Your wife brings part of your daily bread to the family, does that make her less of a woman?

HealthLet's Talk About Temperaments. by Cyberfreak(op): 10:50am On Nov 25, 2009
Temperaments, moods, behaviours whatever you may want to call it.
There are four types of temperaments namely;
Choleric,
Melancholic,
Phlegmatic and
Sanguine.
Which of these temperaments describe you? Are you choleric ( active, domineering, impatient, doer, leader) or melancholic (intelligent, imaginative, introverted, artistic) or phlegmatic (dry sense of humour, committed, loyal, laid back) or sanguine (entertainer, chatty, social butterfly, with lots of friends)?
People usually have two of these temperaments and not just one alone for instance, person could be sanguine phlegmatic or phlegmatic melancholic.
So which are you and which of them is your favourite/least favorite and why?
I am a melancholy choleric and I love it. My favourite is choleric and least favourite is sanguine.

Amaka and tpia please get the hell out of this thread if you have nothing sensible to contribute instead of embarrasing the female folk with you immature and useless bickering.
@topic,
I don't think age matters if we want to choose the person who would rule Nigeria the way it should be ruled and I disagree with that poster who mentioned that when men get old, their ability to reason wisely reduces. This is not true except in cases of senility. What we need is a visionary, intellectual with a strong desire to better the country. Be he young or old.

Huxley once said a time would come when he would leave NL permanently. That is probably what he has done.
Hmm. Religion section has changed. Gone are the days of bitter/ferocious fighting between osisi, babs747, KAG, huxley, davidylan etc. It's not a bad thing though.
