I tought of something like this sometimes back, as a matter of fact i started the project, left it though, i will suggest u build the platform and allow the content to be user generated(Whole web 2.0 madness), more like wikipedia, Urban dictionary is a good example, check them out urbandictionary.com hope this helps.

@Sayhi2ay thanks for your review i appreciate, the site is a news aggregator and content there are gotten via RSS we don't develop content, now concerning the new tab yeah RSS give you a lil news in the summary so you cant always get the full thing, alternatively i can screen scrape the news, but different site has their own markup style differently, so what happens when the full thing goes life and people add their own feed then i am screwed. Ok for the email and co they still gotten from the sites RSS, in other words the idea is this when you visit the site you get default news but when you loggin you can then customise what you see and add you own news.

Hi people i have been playing with the idea of bringing all my news into one place, so that led me into developing my own news reader. Currently this reader is in it's alpha state, so they are lots of bugs, i decided to release it to the public so that y'all can test it and tell me what you think, all suggestion will be highly appreciated. You can only read the default news currently, but subsequently you will be able to:
1. Add your own news and share them with people that matter to you
2. Organise your news in categories
3. Follow other people and keep tabs with news the love.
4. System should be able to recommend news to you based on your interest . etc.

well am glad am back, a good number of your will be wandering if this is actually achievable since google is python based, yes it's possible. Connecting to gmail is not rocket science believe me it's as simple as ABC, this is done through the IMAP* protocol*. Now let the lesson begin, the code will come first then explanation later.

first we create our variables;
$dns = holds the location to the gmail inbox root, Gmail requires that the IMAP connection be made on port 993 and it must be an SSL* connection
$email is your gmail account id,
$password is your gmail account password,

after setting our variable, we establish a connection, using the imap function imap_open function, first the function accepts our $dns variable, followed by our email id and then password imap_open($dns,$email,$password ), we check to see if the connection was successful, if
it it was not we termainate it and print out a message followed by the last error that imap encountered, that way we know the cause of our problem we hold our connection in a variable called $open 'cos we will use it in multiple places.

If our open was successfull, we can proceed by getting the total no of messages in our inbox with the function imap_num_msg, this function accepts the connection string as it's parameter.

We then loop through to get the first five message in our inbox, using the for loop(control structure), imap_header helps us get the headers of our message like the sender name, subject and the date, it accepts our connection string and total no of message that we want to view as it's parameter, we them access our message subject and date the message was sent by using the Subject and the Date functions(method) respectively.

For us to read our first message we use the imap_fetchbody method this method accepts our connection handler and the message number, an optional parameter and a last parameter FT_PEEK, this parameter means don't mark this message as read, if it has never been read, that way if you had 5 inbox, and after reading the mail, it would still set the message flag as unread, we the print out our message and close our imap connection, this way we reduce server load.

IMAP - Internet Message Access Protocol
Protocol - This is a way in which computer identify themselves in a network
SSL - Secured socket layer.
method and function means the same thing.

Note: you will need to enable IMAP function in your PHP, so go to your PHP config file, php.ini and uncomment the imap function by removing the semi-colon before it ";".


I hope you all enjoy this brief lesson, next we will talk about how to delete a message from our gmail account, then subsequently how to compose and send a mail.

your code should look like this

With Python you can build web apps, windows GUI apps, command line programs, and even commercial games. With PHP, you can only build web applications, so you have to learn a second language, which sucks.

Go for PHP if you're building websites for clients.  Go for Python if you're building websites for yourself.

Seun i strongly disagree with you in this part, haven't you heard of PHP-Gtk, it's used for windows app, and mind you you can use PHP for the
aforemention things, who knows and even more.

Hello guys, how are u all doing today, awesome i suppose, pls i will want us to deliberate on this issue, "does your age as a developer determines how much a client should pay you?", why am asking this question is this, many a times people tell me things like, gees you are just 20yrs old, why should you be asking for 200k for a job, at your age what do u need that kind of money for.
Please is it a crime now to be young and ask for a good pay for your sweat and sleepless night. All feed back will be highly appreciated.
