Acting Dean, FEDU, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Nwajiuba delivering her speech
In her speech, she recalled her completion of two tenures in office which according to her, was a privilege to serve and a dedication for possible success and productivity. Dr. Mrs Nwajiuba who was recently appointed pioneer Ag. Director, Centre for Enhancement of Teaching and learning (CETL) with effect from Monday 1st September, 2019, attributed her new positioning as a result of hard work and performance.

Heads of Departments watching and listening with keen interest
“Productivity they say is never an accident. It is always a result of commitment to excellence, intelligent planning and focused effort”, she stated, maintaining that since she was called for another opportunity, she will, to the best of her ability, in a woven good relationship, partnership and support of the staff, move mountains. “Reward for good work, they say, is more work. I am pleased to accept the new responsibilities given me and pray God for enablement to accomplish the vision of the new centre”.

Dr. Mrs Nwajiuba who was highly elated with the level of cooperation she received from her colleagues and support staff expressed hearty gratitude to one particular man she described thus “my mentor, strength of my bones, he that made me believe in my life, my ‘potential booster’, motivator, pillar of my life, who took me under his wings and guided me through the right ways of life, - Professor Chinedum Uzoma Nwajiuba”, Vice-Chancellor, AE-FUNAI. She harped that she is indebted to him and the management of the university, for the privilege, opportunity and avalanche of support received during her tenure.

She thanked the HODs and other staff members both teaching and non-teaching, for their colleagueship, uncommon tolerance, commitment, sacrifice and hard work demonstrated at rough and tough times in the course of her services. She charged them to continue their good works in their service to AE-FUNAI and the faculty.
While handing over up-to-date notes on the Faculty state of affairs to the in-coming Dean, Prof. Rosemary Igbo, Dr. Chinyere Nwajiuba asked staff of the Faculty, to extend the same hand of fellowship to the unassuming scholar, who is stepping in as Dean so as to continue to raise the flag of the faculty higher.
In her response, Prof. Rosemary noted that she did not expect the appointment. “I didn’t see this coming. I wouldn’t say I am taken unaware. In moments like this, you give everything to God”. She averred that Dr. Chinyere Nwajiuba is very articulate and remained focused at all times, even at her young age. “She is young, rational and articulates rapidly but carefully at all times… we will not digress but follow her footsteps so that all she has built will continue to grow. She has left a very big shoe to wear; I will look for cushioning to wear them”, she stated.

Similarly the newly appointed Senior Special Assistant On Special Education to Ebonyi State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Chief Dave Nweze Umahi, Hon. Dr. Chinyere Elom, who was present to witness the hand over ceremony, noted that her appointment will transform education in the state, starting from Primary education to tertiary level, as she intends to harvest best brains from primary schools to kick start the state government’s scholarship programme on the 9th of September, 2019 in the three senatorial zones of the state, comprising Government College, Afikpo; Ezza High School, Onueke and Abakaliki High School (Presco). EducationGovernor Umahi Factors AE-FUNAI In Rural Electrification by cyborgFUNAI(op): 2:03pm On Jul 29, 2019
Representatives from Transmission Company of Nigeria, Abuja, led by staff of Ministry of Power and Energy, Ebonyi State, on Friday, 26th July, 2019, paid courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, with the mission to install electricity to the University community.

Confirming the package, Engineer G. I. Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary designate, Ministry of Power and Energy, Ebonyi state, and leader of the team, stated that his Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi has shown interest in rapid transformation of the state through rural and rugged electrification by expanding its scope. He added that the capacity of electricity in the state is very low and the need to expand the scope is paramount, hence installation of solar power energy in the state.
Engr. Nwankwo, further mentioned that the governor wants to expand the grid in the state by engaging the services of Transmission Company who are experts in the field to come for an inspection, to capture very important loop centers in the state so that they can go home, integrate it and come up with a plan on how the state will have a very strong energy background.
Furthermore, he affirmed that the governor while listing areas to be captured, mentioned Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu- Alike, Ebonyi State, as one of the beneficiaries of this project. To him, the governor has planned this year to expand backup to the feeder supplying the light.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Sunday Elom, welcoming the august visitors in his office, stated that AE-FUNAI is a very new university established by the former administration in 2011 that has low income generation to power generator by purchase of diesel on daily basis for university activities for which, he said is not practically possible for a university of seven faculties aspiring to become a world class university. He said, ‘’this is a cheering news that you people are remembering us. It may also interest you to know that the Federal Government is coming to commission a power plant here in AE-FUNAI by 2nd of next month”. It is a welcome development for AE-FUNAI, urging the Deputy Director, Physical Planning, Works and Services (PPW&S), Engr. Etche to take them round for site viewing.

EducationProfessor Of Engineering Physics Presents First Inaugural Lecture In Ae-funai by cyborgFUNAI(op): 11:09pm On Jul 26, 2019
It was indeed a remarkable day at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) as the young university held its first inaugural lecture. Staff and students turned out en masse to witness the lecture with great delight as one of their own, Professor of Engineering Physics Micheal Ugwu Onuu gave the inaugural lecture on “Engineering Physics: Reconstructing and Complementing Engineering for Greater Impact”.

Procession of Professors into the main auditorium, venue of event.
In her welcome address, the chairman Inaugural and Public Lectures Committee, Professor Rosemary Igbo, pointed out that inaugural lectures are occasions of high significance in the university system and in the career of university teaching staff worldwide, which afford professors, especially the newly appointed ones, the opportunity to inform colleagues, university community and the general public about their work on teaching, research, community engagements and future academic intentions. “The drive is usually to commemorate the Inaugural lecturer’s appointment to full professorship and to generate a platform that enables the lecturer to elucidate the body of knowledge and research that constitute the focus of his academic career. We appreciate the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba who has provided excellent leadership with his support for various dimensions of excellence in the academia” she added.

Prof. Rosemary Igbo, Chairman Public and Inaugural Lecture Committee presenting welcome address
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba in his opening remarks, noted that history was being established in AE-FUNAI, as the young university held its first inaugural lecture. He noted that the practice is that a full professor in the Nigerian university subsystem may do this only once in his career, upon promotion to the professorial chair. He further commented on the purpose of inaugural lecture as being practiced worldwide citing examples of the practice in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. He acknowledged professors who had delivered inaugural lectures in their previous universities before joining AE-FUNAI.

Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, VC, making opening remarks.
Professor Nwajiuba noted that “Our circumstance as a young university and appreciating the sacrifice some colleagues have made by joining our university, recommended that persons who were already professors prior to joining AE-FUNAI will be able to deliver this lecture, if the so indicate. In any case, there is no professor for all universities. A professor is of a specific university. As we also know, when a full professor from another university desires joining AE-FUNAI, a limited process of evaluation of the qualifications vis-a-viz AE-FUNAI guidelines is conducted”. He congratulated Prof. Micheal Onuu for being in the historical moment as the first inaugural lecturer of the university and thanked the inaugural lecture committee for being able to deliver on the assignment.
The inaugural lecturer Professor Micheal Ugwu Onuu at the beginning of his lecture recalled when the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nwajiuba promised members of AE-FUNAI community on the commencement of inaugural lectures during his tenure and how the promise was being fulfilled. “With humility, I consider it an honor, a great one for that matter for me to be chosen as the first to give inaugural lecture since the inception of this university in 2011, eight years ago. EducationAe-funai Catholic Chaplaincy Celebrate Vc At 55 by cyborgFUNAI(op): 9:21pm On Jul 26, 2019
It was a gathering of who is who in the House of God on Wednesday at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike as the university community and special guests from Ebonyi and across the state were present at the site of Holy Family Catholic Chaplaincy to mark the 55th birthday of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba.

To the chaplaincy and the university community, it was promise fulfilled and dream come true. Recall that in August, 2018, Prof. Nwajiuba proposed to celebrate his next birthday by July, 2019, on the Damp Proof Course (DPC), level, of the chaplaincy by the grace of God, even as the foundation was not laid, and then asked the Chaplain, Rev.Fr. Peter Agbo to do all he could to at least achieve DPC floor level before the date. That birthday of a man who works his talk was celebrated as proposed, to the glory of God.
Prof. Nwajiuba, an ecumenical leader and fervent member of Anglican Communion, organized the ceremony for the primary purpose of building house of God on campus even when he does not belong to Catholic denomination. Funds were therefore raised by good-spirited individuals and friends of Vice-Chancellor.

The thanksgiving service was under the ministration of the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, His Lordship, Bishop Michael Nnachi Okoro who was represented by Rev. Fr. Dr. Edward Inya Nwachi as Chief celebrant of the Thanksgiving mass.
Speaking during the Homily, Father Henry Ogodo expounded the teachings of Jesus in the Book of Matthew 13:1-9 about the parable of the sower and affirmed that the four categories of the germinated seeds reflect the following: indifferent Christians (fell by the way side); emotional Christians and miracle seekers (stony ground); functional Christians (thorny ground); and ideal Christians (good soil). He mentioned that a Christian is committed when his commitment is greater than his predicament.
Father Peter Agbo while welcoming the innumerable congregation said he prayed that the day wouldn’t come because of the enormity of work to be done on the site to meet the deadline as proposed by the VC but miraculously, funds came and work began and the dream of having VC celebrate his 55 birthday on the floor of the Chaplaincy come true.

Addressing the cheering congregation , Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nwajiuba thanked everyone for coming and said that the target God gave him to worship Him at DPC level in July, 2019 has been achieved. He reminded all that his mission was to work, make friends and that it shall be said of him at the expiration of his tenure that a child of God was here.

Highlight of the celebration was the presentation of portrait of the couple and award of titles- Omere-oha and Ada-di-oha- mma of Holy Family Catholic Chaplaincy, AE-FUNAI followed by the cutting of birthday cake. Dr Henry Alo, Director, Medical Services, in his vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to God for making the day possible and thanked all for gracing the occasion. He said it takes a man of Prof. Nwajiuba to have taken the young university thus far and therefore prayed GOD to continue to imbue him and family with the grace to continue.

EducationVc Inducts New Student Union Government Exco by cyborgFUNAI(op): 3:38pm On Jul 25, 2019
The Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, yesterday inducted the newly elected Students Union Government (SUG) at the university Senate Chamber.

Speaking during the induction, The Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Otu Otu Akanu introduced winners of the recently held 2019 SUG elections and gave detailed criteria for candidates to qualify for the elections. He noted that sixty three (63) students obtained forms for the election and went through the two levels of screening developed by the committee on SUG elections which included security and non-security screening.
Dr. Otu stated that the security screening was conducted on three levels which involved the State intelligence Bureau (SIB) Screening, The Department of State Security (DSS) Screening and the University anti-cult squad screening whereby some candidates were disqualified by the DSS and SIB with reasons being attached in the official report to be presented to the Vice-Chancellor. At the end of the screening, sixty students were cleared to partake in the election process.

.
Recall that the election which was held on the 9th of July 2019 was monitored closely by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Sunday Elom, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Admin. Prof. Philip Omoke, the Registrar, Odisa C Okeke (Mrs), Director Quality Assurance, NANS, Police, DSS, and SIB. Chima Solomon Chijioke emerged winner of the SUG Presidential election with a total of 1371 votes as against two other opponents. DSA added that the election was transparent and fair due to the pro activeness of the committee, who made some new changes to prevent rigging .

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nwajiuba , before inducting the students took time to interact and advise the EXCO’s on the importance and sensitivity of their offices. He stated that leadership is divine and a leader who deliberately misleads the people only incurs the wrath of God. He further advised that leadership was created by God and it comes with responsibilities. “You must be studious; when people assume offices in Nigeria they don’t rise up to the expected responsibility. For you to lead, it means you know the way. Leadership is not about yourself but about who you lead. You lead based on the challenges and problems at the time you are leading”.

The issue of school fees is non-negotiable, he added. The students took their oath of office and were inducted as new SUG officials.

EducationAe- Funai Collaborate Icpc by cyborgFUNAI(op): 9:25am On Jul 18, 2019
• AGE FALSIFICATION AMONG PUBLIC SERVANTS OVER
The State Commissioner for Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), South-East Headquarters, Enugu, Barr. Amidu Sule on Tuesday, 16th July 2019, at a workshop held at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, disclosed to the teeming public servants of the university that the era of age falsification of federal workers is over. He noted that this becomes possible by the introduction of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) which ensures that once the duration of a worker from first point of entry expires, his/her salary is stopped forthwith by the computerized system.

Receiving ICPC delegation led by Barr. Aminu Sule in VC’s Conference Room, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, Vice- Chancellor, AE- FUNAI thanked the delegation for coming to enlighten the university community on the fight against corruption as championed by the commission. “We are glad to have you, it is good you have come to enlighten our people”, he said.
Delivering his lecture on the Role of Public Servants in the Fight against Corruption at the university main auditorium, venue of the workshop, Barrister Amidu noted that ICPC was established to specifically deal with corruption act and other related offences. He maintained that the commission had three mandates to drive and that the effort to realize the third mandate which centers on sensitization and public enlightenment necessitated the workshop at AE-FUNAI. According to the Commissioner, ICPC does not wait for corruption to be committed before arrest is made.

He took time to explain various offences that constitute bribery acts punishable by law, to include sex-for-mark, giving and receiving bribes and assisting contractors to win contracts with the aim to receiving kickbacks among others. He stated that anyone who witnessed act of bribery and fails to report such act shall be punished according to dictates of the law. The punishment according to him is five years jail term while the offender bags two years imprisonment and where the report is false, the reporter gets 10 years imprisonment. Amidu therefore charged public servants to desist from acts that would influence their decisions in the discharge of their duties with the reason to augment their poor salaries, counseling that such public servants should rather take to farming. “Don’t, confer promotion to hardworking staff based on friendship or familiarity and don’t report anyone based on personal vendetta. Let your information be guided by truth always”, he advised.
Mr. Suleiman Achile, Head, Public Enlightenment/Education and the Commission’s PRO, while making his presentation stated that ICPC has simplified their activities and made it open and closer to Nigerians through establishment of Anti Corruption Transparency Unit (ACTU), where seven (7) members of honest reports are required to join their fight from AE-FUNAI and will report genuine offences to the commission. He also noted that another window to becoming a life member of the commission is available to everybody by joining National Anti-Corruption Volunteer Corp (NAVC). He warned that membership is not a condition to manhunt anyone and there is no monetary attachment to membership of both.

EducationNwajiuba Again Calls For Review Of Structure And Curriculum Of Agriculture In by cyborgFUNAI(op): 12:25am On Jul 13, 2019
NWAJIUBA AGAIN CALLS FOR REVIEW OF STRUCTURE AND CURRICULUM OF AGRICULTURE IN NIGERIA UNIVERSITY SYSTEM
Vice Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum U. Nwajiuba, who was key note speaker at the opening session of 63rd AGM and Conference of Association of Deans of Agriculture in Nigerian Universities (ADAN), has again canvassed for adjustment of the course content of agriculture as a discipline in Nigeria universities, to meet the needs of our present times and as obtained in many world class universities and institutes. Nwajiuba made this call while presenting a paper on the subject matter at NEEDS Assessment Building, AE- FUNAI, venue of the opening ceremony of the conference which held from Tuesday, 9th- Friday, 12 July, 2019.

.
Recalling that in 2016 at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, at ADAN conference he asked “...for review and overhaul of the structure and curriculum of the Bachelors degree programme in Agriculture in the Nigeria University system”, but that unfortunately, there has been no action on that, even as many colleagues and very well meaning persons in and outside that conference have expressed understanding of that position he has been canvassing.

Nwajiuba in his paper laid emphasis on what is termed Agripreneurship which according to him is the idea of Agricultural Entrepreneurship deliberately trained and empowered to be commercial oriented and employers of labour rather than job seekers, should be the urgent concern of universities and government. He opined that we can no longer fold our hands and watch our situation where the agricultural sector has become stagnated by low technology and poor mechanization. “Where then is the generation next in Agriculture?”, he asked, especially now that prospective JAMB Applicants into Nigerian Universities do not even consider Agriculture as option in their choice of courses.

He emphasised that universities should create Agribusinesses and profit-oriented farms that are Agriculture based in our universities. These Agro based business format should have students of Agriculture engaged to work on part time basis and paid stipends while being trained. He therefore called on government and non-government concerns including international organisations, who are engaged with development in Nigeria to urgently buy into this proposal. He buttressed his position that Agricultural programmes in the Nigeria university system should not go beyond four years, by citing examples of four year and three year BSc programmes across and around the world from UK to USA, Germany, Czech, Romania, Australia, China, India, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Africa. He also presented a four year BSc programme in Agriculture designed at the AE-FUNAI.

While receiving ADAN executives at VC’s Conference Room during courtesy call on the VC to kick start the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Jonny Ogunji, Director, Academic Planning, who represented VC at the event told the visitors that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nwajiuba and the university authorities are heartily grateful to ADAN for choosing AE-FUNAI to host their 63rd AGM, pointing out that the university appreciates the importance of agriculture, hence the establishment of faculty of agriculture in 2016, which was authenticated by ADAN. VC further stated that related to agriculture is the Campus Green Initiative the university has aggressively embarked on to massively plant trees that will not only provide vegetation in the campus but will also provide food. He regretted that the wind storm that destroyed properties of the university in May this year, could not have been that devastating if plants existed to save our environment. He reiterated that AE- FUNAI is working hard to become world class university and that the status cannot be achieved if the university could not implement these three core mandates -Teaching, Research and Community Service which of course are drivers of AE- FUNAI programmes and activities.

Prof. I. Osakwe, Dean PG School and chairman LOC in his welcome address at the opening ceremony, said that the theme of this conference, value addition to Agriculture in Nigeria, has been carefully selected by the organizers to agitate the minds of participants in order to critically review the policy, growth and also in development in Agriculture and food production in our nation. He thereafter stressed that in spite of petroleum and mineral solid exploration, agriculture remains the major sector of the Nigeria economy. Involving an overwhelming segment of the populace, he further said that majority of Nigerians depend on Agriculture and AE-FUNAI sees the importance of Agriculture and makes it a point of duty that anyone that visited the university will be part of the Campus Green Initiative. He added that the essence of the meeting is for the participants and especially the Dean of Agriculture AE-FUNAI to rub minds and share ideas on the best practices to be adopted in addressing the afore-mentioned questions and ensure that our graduates can compete favourably with graduates from other universities.

Ag. Dean of faculty of Agriculture Dr. Christiana Igberi, expressed her unreserved gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of AE-FUNAI for giving approval and support for the Faculty to host the AGM and conference pointing out that active participation in the conference will enable faculty of Agriculture to be focused on quality teaching, research and problem solving. She stated that everyone should go back to the root where interest and passion in skill development determined the course of action and not the stretch of time.
President of ADAN, Prof. M. A. Bamikole explained that the association has been in existence for about 64 years in Nigeria and that membership has grown significantly. He further said that active participation in policy advocacy and formulation in the Agricultural sector and collaborating with youth initiative for sustainable agriculture for promotion of Agribusiness related activities among students and graduates of Agriculture in Nigeria are their key concerns. Bankole had earlier during courtesy call thanked VC for identifying with the association and for all the support he has always given to them.
Chairman of event, Senator Dr. Emmanuel Onwe, former commissioner for information in Ebonyi state, expressed his unreserved gratitude to the association and organisers of the conference for inviting him as he loves being among great people, where ideas are being exchanged and where the future of students are being discussed. He further said that to make this idea grow faster, we have to partner with the public and that is high time we started taking agriculture more seriously by making it a good business.

Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dr. David Nweze Umahi ably represented at the event by Dr. Mrs Rita Okoro, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, said that the Governor was overwhelmed for ADAN to have chosen Ebonyi State for their 63rd AGM and that the gap between the university community and the government should be bridged in order to achieve a good result in Agricultural development.

Highlight of the event were launching of a book titled Adding Value to Agricultural Training in Nigeria, published by Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, and meritorious awards to HE Engr. Dr. David Umahi, Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, and some ADAN executives including Prof. Folusho Morenike David- Abraham, Chairperson of Board of Trustees, Prof. Mrs Ngozi Ifeoma Odiaka, Dr. Christopher Aimiuwu and Prof. Bagoro, E.S.
