It means we were on the same flight and my story was similar with immigration 2 stand but my best moment was the fact that I was already in Casablanca for 8hours layover before my immigration introduction letter was updated on my Cic account. It took God for me to get it printed within the airport as everyone was just saying there was no facility for such in the airport.
Let's keep believing in our dreams

Wow! I love your spirit

Aftr 5min he called me bck and handed it over to me,he asked if my daughtr was on studnt visa too ,i answerd No and he said welcome to canada ,you can go fr ur baggage pls...
i was surprised nothg was asked,no questn..nothg
meanwile i saw other pple with thorough checking ,some were directed to immigration 2,i met some sitting down and left them still sitting ...
I return all the glory to the Almighty God and i want us to alwys put evrythg befr God...my prayer point was alwys (GOD I DNT WANT ANY DELAY AT THE POE ,DEY SHLD JUST HAND OVER MY STUDY PERMIT AND SAY WELCOME TO CANADA) i actually got it d way i wanted...atyms wen im prayg i usually say is it possible but now i knw my God is awesome....i pray fr every1 waitg for response fr visa shall have a positive response IJN.

I had the same fear too! Even started reading news about how they've denied entries in the past. I was also worried about customs giving me issues with my luggage. Surprisingly, all the person asked me was what school, what course and that was that. Even printed my account statement as POF sef just in case.

Ps. I'll advise anyone coming to book a flight with at least 3 or 4 hrs layover at the POE, because I missed my connecting flight and it was not funny at all. Had to spend 2days in Toronto before I got another flight to Winnipeg.

Hello e-family.
Writing from Regina, Saskatchewan.

MY EXPERIENCE SO FAR

Its great here, very nice people. People are nice to you for no reason.
Sane drivers too, atleast, I never fight any driver for change since when I come here.
In the school environment, once a pedestrian steps on the road to cross, all vehicles must stop. I did it the first time, body sweet me. The people here don't even look at the road anymore. Some will just be chatting and crossing. Me, as a Nigerian, I still have trust issues, so even though I know they will stop , I still look right, left, right, left, right again, up, down and back, before crossing (YOLO).

For those still coming in the spring/summer semester, one of the mistakes you shouldn't make (which I made) is believing that; "It is the spring/summer semester, it won't be cold anymore".

Success to all hopefuls.

Thanks alot for this!

The bolded made me literally laugh out loud. I can just imagine

You cannot use conditional offer letter, that's why it's conditional, admission is unconditional if you fulfill the conditions timely. Go to your school and get them to send your transcript expressly and if it means facilitating the process so be it!

This is not correct. I applied with a conditional admission letter

I just checked it now. I am very new on this platform infact the newest self. I joined months after submitting my application. I was naive about the whole process. I met @Qudkom in person in december and he put me through the entire process. I couldn't have done it without God and him. I was always reluctant to join and he made me join. Even if I am new here I still thought to share my testimony. And to all others I pray for a successful application. Once again thanks to @Qudkom he literally went through every page of my document and scrutinised everything, when he told me to start afresh I thought it was a joke but now I see the value. I am very lucky I met him in person and he introduced me to this platform.

Thanks for taking the time to confirm. It's a naira account I have though, but I guess I'll have to sort it all out with my bank if I have to open a dom account or not. I have emailed nbc about the whole USD account thing also. Although I'm quite sure it's me that's just worrying my self. My money no go hang for air abeg grin grin

P. S you guys are the best @woodcrestmayor @opeyemmmy @dfanz

opeyemmmy:

Please note you can transfer CAD directly from Nigeria (you are required to have a domiciliary account of any currency) to your offshore account with NBC. All that's required from you is the swift details of your bank and your account details with the bank.

Seeing the responses to your posts so far, I had to call a colleague to confirm my assertion.

You will and you can choose to do a lump sum change when you get in and save the rest. Who says you can't get a job in 1month? You don't have to spend all your savings. Your POF can be a good way to start a solid savings/investing portfolio in canada.

Experts at the start of the year also predicted that markets might take a dip this year and cash will remain king as always.

Thank you!

Thanks alot. One last question please. If I open a USD chequing account and send USD, won't they still have to convert to CAD each time I want to use it?

WoodcrestMayor:
Flutterwave is reputable but i suggest you do a rate comparison. CAD has been over recent months down against the dollar so you just might be better off sending in USD then convert cos USD>CAD. If you decide to go with wiring USD, get them to open you a basic USD account.

dfanz:
You will want to get your account details for an incoming wire from NBC. Wires can indeed be applied to your account in CAD even if sent as USD but at prevailing rate for the day, cad has not been doing great against usd for some time now. Also know that most banks have charges applied to incoming wires.

You will want to this this into consideration before making a decision. Every penny of the POF matters.

Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by cychristaa: 6:04pm On Apr 03, 2019
I guess I'll first confirm from my bank first if they can send CAD directly. Otherwise I'll send an email to nbc or use rave. Thank you so much! You were very helpful

Iyamefa:

My guess is they opened a basic CAD chequing account for you but I would advise to contact your bank to confirm. In order to complete a wire transfer from Nigeria, it has to be sent to a USD account which you can also request for from NBC. Sorry, I have no direct experience with rave by flutterwave so can’t advice. All I know is that Wakanow seems to use them for payments in other currencies. I recently paid for a flight with my CAD card on Wakanow and rave by flutterwave was what showed up on my account, not wakanow. Don’t know if that helps but that’s all I know about them.

Thanks! I'll do just that.

joo2018:
Hi.

I think the bank should also provide instructions on how to wire funds.

Thanks alot for your replies. From the information I was given about the account, I don't think it's a specific type of account yet (please see attached pic). So can I just send the money now and deal with the rest when I get there ?
Also, due to bank costs and the fact that I'm not sure if bank can transfer directly to CAD, I was thinking of using rave by flutterwave to transfer instead but I'm a little scared. I've used them for some small transactions but I've also seen some bad reviews about them. What are your thoughts please?

WoodcrestMayor:
Naija banks regard any currency other than GBP, uSD and Euro as 3rd currencies and usually don't do movements in those currencies. I'll suggest you ask you bank if they can move CAad without converting to UsD. If they cant, get back to Rbc and ask them to open you a high interest E-savings USD account.

Iyamefa:

He/she is referring to nbc though which is National bank of Canada. @cychristaa as @woodcrestmayor said, Nigerian banks can do a wire transfer for you in USD so you would have to open a USD account with your Canadian bank so you can convert to CAD when you land (with same bank if you want). Drawbacks? Bank fees (from Nigeria)

Hi guys, I opened a newcomers account with nbc from Nigeria. I have been given my account details and everything, though I still have to go to the bank personally when I arrive. I'm planning on doing a wire transfer from my nigerian account soon. I just want to know if anyone has done such. If so, are there any drawbacks?

Also, I should be able to do a wire transfer from my (naira) Nigerian bank to my Canadian bank (CAD) right?

Will really appreciate it if someone with such experience could help me out. If there are also better suggestions on how I can send/carry the money, please let me know. Thanks!

This thread is really amazing! No doubts about that. But let’s not also forget that there are thousands of people that have neither consulted nairaland nor the services of agents, and have had TRV approvals. Upon speaking to a good number of them, I was extremely surprised to see that they didn’t submit many of the things that are recommended for people to submit here... and they were still successful! Consequently, It made me question the usefulness of some of these things and I expressed my opinion to see if there was any argument for these documents...

We need to understand a couple of things;
1. The fact that someone got a TRV approval does not make the person an expert on TRV matters.

2. The fact that someone submitted a certain document and got an approval does not make that “document” compulsory to submit (especially if it’s not a requirement on the CIC website)

3. You really cannot use one person’s model/template as the standard. As we already know, there is no one size fits all.

The point I’m trying to make is this;
1. We need to question why we are telling people to submit certain documents. For instance, this police character certificate. The fact that it is a PR application requirement DOES NOT MAKE IT IMPERATIVE TO SUBMIT for a TRV application. Who knows if it makes the VO start to think that you want to actually stay in Canada since you’re submitting the requirements for a PR. Plus since the things you submit, passes through a “genuinity test” (or what eveir they call it), what if these extra unnecessary documents just delays a candidates processing time since the immigration office would have to verify them..

Very true but as you mentioned, I think it's a personal thing. It might not apply to everyone, especially people that have travelled and stayed in a different country. Giving a police certificate might reduce the amount if time it would take to very their criminal records. At the end of the day I think I'll just advise people to do as their spirit leads. I didn't add a police character certificate but I probably added some other things that people might deem unnecessary. But I think sometimes after listening to advise, you should still follow what your gut says.

Just to complete the story.

Family application on Dec 28, biometrics on Dec 31, upfront medical for us on Jan 2, then we updated our application with copies of the medical sheets.

Approvals for myself on Jan 22, my madam, Feb 5 and my boy Feb 9.

Programme - MBA (I think number one business school in Canada, am not too sure sha)

Documents submitted include birth certificates, educational certificates, my employment letters, proof of funds documents, no sponsor, letter of explanation for myself as the main applicant (2 pages), another for my wife (just 1 page), ties to home country (land documents, my rented apartment in Lagos, car docs, etc.), admission docs, CIC forms, etc.

God is great, He will complete the work He has just started.

As for those expecting goodies from CIC, just hang in there, yours is very much close.

On to the next one!

Congrats!

Which schools accept 2.2 for Maters and what are the factors? Can i send you a mail

From my little knowledge, there are two factors: your GPA for the last two years and if you have work experience in your chosen field of study. As for the particular universities, I'm not sure about that. Just Google Canadian universities individually and check their requirements. If you're looking specifically for low cost universities, the pic attached can guide you.
