bkool7:You have made a good observation But the problem of Nigerian Electrician consumers has NOTHING to do with the massive Population. It is a function of CORRUPTION by Nigerian Elites. Just take a look at the list of those who bought NEPA (Our national Asset!) at rock-bottom prices, in a privatisation organised by the "Saint" El Rufai (as head of BPE back then): Former head of States, Former Ministers, Big time looters...... all people who have NO CLUE at running a Power Company bought just bought it believing they can just strip-off its Assets. Right now, after many years, they have not invested a Penny in their Discos. All they have been doing is siphoning money out of th eplace, asking for unending hike in tarrifs, asking for Free Money from the federal Govt and refusing to invest in prepaid meters because they know trhat will hasten their death, as the cant cheat Nigerians by collecting Money for nergy not supplied. The New Scam they are into now is to install a Meter at the transformer and then share that phantom value on all the people in the area. Ofcourse, they know there is no way the consumers can monitor that, they just share whatever value they like. Even Fashola is tired of the whole thing because those involved are bigger than him |
RipVanWink:Not sure about the 0.85 and 0.66 stuff, l like to keep things simple. One block = 18" One feet = 12" if your ground is good, then stick to Blocks only for your columns. As a rule, l generally wont do blocks only (personal preference) Too much Sand in your Sand-Cement mix, may cause your work to fail in heavy rains |
snakebeat:Did l insult you in my post? My apologies if you deem it so. I still insist there is a disconnect, between what we are saying. I understand you to mean "fair pricing" is non existent, right? But l also know that this is a big issue in most countries and it is well documented and implemented There is even a TV show on a U.K channel where "Rogue contractors" who take advantage of vulnerable people, are exposed and charged, forcing them to refund the excess charges. Anyway, l dont want to make this a one-on-one argument so, we agree to disagree. |
DrGoodman:Ediat, go back to your normal userhandle. Stop hiding behind this fake one. Anytime you want to say something stewpid, you would log-on with "Goodman"! Even you are ashamed of yourself! ![]() Dont worry, we all know you hold a PhD or you are a Medical Doctor (So, no need to add it to your fake handle) "Me-thinks", ......like a give a two-Bleep about the opinion of a asinine He-goat like you? |
olumide4christ:Most "Nigerian Business", cannot survive more than 20years before it collapses yet, in some Climates, Business survives over four generations, as it is passed from father to Son and further down the line. Question we should be asking is: WHY? The answer lies in what is called the "Business Model". What you have stated above, for example, is YOUR OWN business model. Others have a 'different' Business Model. Its a deep subject that l cannot do justice to, on a pedestrian platform like Nairaland but l will do a brief summary by using examples. If you notice, a few Seller/Contractors on this Nairaland, usually start out by giving FREE KNOWLEDGE. How? They either explain some technical issues that people are interested-in or detail their work, in a FREE LECTURE FORM. Almost ALL Builders on this thread have done it at one time or the other, before they became Popular (Aventures, Spyder, Skimanski, Abdulwastecx, just name them)...and it is a good thing, in my own opinion. Its a form of advertisement for Customers. (This is what big companies like MTN, Nigerian Breweries, etc spend hundreds of Millions of Naira on, annually) In return, they attract Customers to their Services. So, their Business Model is to "give out some Freebie", and in return, collect t"he patronage of some customers" (those reading their posts), who would not have looked their way ordinarily. For some "prospective" customers, ASKING QUESTIONS is a way they just want to use as a yardstick, to judge the competency of the contractor and see whether they can trust him with the real, big job So, for those whose 'Business Model' is to be miserly with information (or to shun advertisement, as in the case of Nairaland where information is used as advert), the rewards is there. For the smart ones, l am sure they are also seeing the result otherwise, no one would be wasting their time on Nairaland, taking and posting pictures, explaining technical details, answering questions, e.t.c If very rich and prominent companies, whose assets are into the Billions and are household names, have not thought it as wasteful, to advertise, to entice customers in form of promotions, raffles, offers, e.t.c., how much more a one man business that is relatively unknown ebyond the owners compound? ![]() But then, like l said, its 'your business model', if it pays you, who am l to challenge your authority. ![]() BTW: This is not an endorsement of freeloading, people should be ready to pay, when they are about embarking on a standard building project |
Daboomb: And Yes, we are 'generalising' because the topic is not about attacking one particular Contractor, it is to appeal to both Clients and Contractors, to develop a MUTUALLY FAIR method of Costing Building Projects; So why should any poster be particular and not generalise? snakebeat:It seems a lot of people here dont know the difference between the phrase "FAIR", and the phrase "FREE"? or maybe they are confusing one for the other! In my post above, as quoted, l used the line "MUTUALLY FAIR PRICE" to both Contractor and Client. *What does this mean? *Are you aware that Lawyers have been asked, to Refund Money (Service charge), considered as UNFAIR and EXCESSIVE CHARGE, to their Clients? If you doubt this, please ask your Uncle, l am certain he will brief you on the circumstances and probably cite examples for you. * If other countries have "fair pricing system" in most, if not all Trades, what makes you think Nigeria must be different like we are some Aliens from Mars? In most cases, "fair pricing" is not fixed or determined by either party to a contract/transaction, it is arrived at, after careful study, by independent Panels which might include representative of both parties involved. At the end of the day, both parties feel relieved and fulfilled, (Mutuality) for the part they would pay (Cash and Service) when such fair price is applied. "FREE" means you dont want to pay at all and that is ridiculous. The fact that everyone is a HYENA, competing at who can exploit the other the-most, and getting away with it (which is what leads to our ever spiralling inflation, with prices only going Up (when reason demands) but never coming back to normal when such reason are abated.. does not mean it is right or desirable. Sprumbaba: Thank you Daboomb, the Johnson232 is a mad man. He too wants to start like Brabus and be forming Know-how.I wont even dignify the nincompoop with a reply. He can wallow in his ignorance, for all l care. |
RipVanWink:First, Reinforced Concrete, is always stronger (and more expensive!) than using just blocks for any Column. So, if you can afford it, use Concrete Columns. As to your other question, l will suggest you be ready to do small calculations yourself. Dont expect everything to be handed down to you, without effort. Here is a Rough estimate, to start you going. I Block is 18". 1. Find out how many of that you will get in 100ft (1200" .Divide by 18 and that would give you "maximum" amount of Blocks required.2. Do same for 50ft. There are two sides of 50ft and 100ft in a fence. 3.) Multiply the answer you get in 1 and 2 above, by 2 (double it). Now multiply the figure in (3) above, by the number of Coaches you want to achieve (5 Coaches?) to get total number of blocks (maximum) required. Note: You can refine this figure by considering to deduct blocks meant for spaces that would be occupied by Gate, other openings and Mortar used in joining the blocks but also factor-in breakages of the blocks. Each block cost between #160 - #180 (6" Blocks). One bag of Cement will set about 40 - 50 Blocks 4.) Divide total number of Blocks in (3), by 50, to get how many bags of Cement you need for Block setting Use 1:6 Cement-Sand ratio i.e two Headpans of cement (1bag) to 12 Head-pans of Sand. Multiply the number of Bags pf cement in (3) above, to get the number of Headpans of Sand you need. (You can translate this to Tons of Sand or Tipper of sand) - Depending on the type of Soil in your Area, you may need to just do Blinding with Cement and Sand and not need to use Concrete Mix of Cement, Sand and Granite + Iron Rods. But if you do, you can calculate the Volume of Concrete mix, (L x B x H = Volume), measuring the total length of your fence on the Ground. Use mix ratio 1:2:4 (Cement, Sand Concrete) for the Concrete part Additional Notes: *Cement Density of 1506kg/m3 and for a 50Kg Bag of cement *Density of Granite is 2750kg/m^3 or 2.750/1000 tons Labour is at an average of #3,500 (#2000 Bricklayer and #1,500 labourer) for setting about 80-Blocks but you can negotiate with your Bricklayer properly, for a discount. Total Labour cost will be Total number of Blocks divided by 80 (max). Blinding may be costed separately but it is better to cost all together. *Budget for Water to use in mixing the Cement as well, add few Nails and some bags of Pure Water for your Workers. ![]() Do your Homework and at least be prepared to negotiate from a 'position of knowledge'. |
johnson232:You see, this is the problem with 'people whose utterances are guided by what they think they will benefit' from another person (Contractor). There are many like you on this thread, HYPOCRITES who 'praise sing' at any Contractor, at any opportunity, even when it is not required, just because they HOPE to be in the good books of the person/Contractor being praised and probably get a reduction in charges when the time comes. ![]() To such People, everything done by any Contractor, is good, as long as they are not at the receiving end of the stick! ![]() This discussion is about PRICING of JOBS and many people have said their piece. Unless you want to tell me that you have not heard/read about all the CONTRACTOR SCAMS on this thread, the list is so long l dont even have to mention usernames. (just this thread only!), then what you wrote about is the most silly comment on Nairaland. And Yes, we are 'generalising' because the topic is not about attacking one particular Contractor, it is to appeal to both Clients and Contractors, to develop a MUTUALLY FAIR method of Costing Building Projects; So why should any poster be particular and not generalise? BTW: Why did you not just answer the question asked by the Fencing Person (@RipVanwink) you are referring to, instead of attacking the Poster you attacked? |
Teewhy2:How can most people know? These pictures are too tiny for people to see. Cant you expand them and paste the Big pictures? You could also `increase interest by attaching Price/meter to each one. I think if people get enough information about this product, they may be very interested in using it. |
NwaObinkita:While l agree that Bash coul dhave been invited along, Lagos State Govt DID NOT PAy Hollyfield to come to Lagos! The reverse is actually the case. Hollyfield is donating a $3Million (Yes, three Million Dollars health facility to the Lagos State Govt, in return. Unfortunately, Money talks, Bash Alli is always asking for Money from Govts, l can see any project he has invested-in, in Lagos. |
adatemi:...and that they have "exclusive and enduring FULL ownership" over the building. Infact, that they have sole right over the building and can dispose it at will. Fear Nigerians, l tell you. ![]() |
Chiefly:I cant shout PUBLICITY and ELECTION CAMPAIGN tins o! ![]() According to the Bible, When you GIVE, let not your Left hand, know what your Right hand is giving. Give in secrecy and the Lord who sees in secret, will reward you in the open". So, this 'kind' man has no reward with God, he has taken his reward on Nairaland! |
sisisioge:The thing affect you no be small o! It is spelt Husband, not horseband BTW: When women like you have sampled so many 'horsewhips' when you were young and turned to a borehole, how do you expect your husband to be able to satisfy you sexually? Husband is not a horse and you cant kill him simply because you are sexually insatiable. ![]() #Borehole! Ireespective of whatever the Husband does, a women that would cheat, will still cheat. Infact, most Women 'nowadays' are wired to cheat...... those that are not cheating yet are not doing so because of the husband's "close-marking" and the fear of the consequence of being caught. |
Sprumbaba:It is also true that "Internet Contractors" are tech-savy so they do a lot of PACKAGING, instead of allowing their work to speak for them, coupled with the fact that most of their Victims (Clients) are people who are based abroad or have little time to do due diligence and proper supervision of the Contractor! All you hear is 'wire the money' and l would send you pictures of the work as it progresses. In a country where most people are Greedy and selfish, without the fear of god and where there is no efficient 'punishment system' for erring contractors, it takes a lot of "blind faith" to send Millions of Naira to some unknown person on a faceless forum. But l am happy that everyone is becoming wiser now, maybe that is one benefit of this recession ![]() |
atirolu:How can you expect someone like her to bring-up a girl, in the 'right way'? An Apple does not fall far from its Tree! You cant give what you dont have. ![]() ***Still trying to find that part of the broken Skull*** |
ChinonsoDike2:Self-hating Blacks (like you) are even worse... they prefer to remain SLAVES to the White man! ![]() |
olokeded:16years is how long it needs, to perfect their looting plan, against the Bill. All hail Saraki and his gang of Legislooters ![]() |
Berbierklaus:Hmmmm..... it surely hit a raw nerve! Now, where is that 'peril' so l can use it to eat Bread! ![]() |
refiner:Wisdom is stored in Letters! (Books). If you meet a girl who is too lazy to READ..... Ruuuuunnnnn. Just run. No man wants to be saddled with a dumb-phuck! ![]() |
gberra:LiePOBs is another Dictionary definition of senselessness! ![]() e.g: You are LiePOB. Meaning: 'you are senseless'. ![]() What do you expect? ![]() |
mikeycharles:So, you expect they should wait till Buhari comes back, before holding ordinary "non-elective" convention? Some of you sef, they need to give you Abidec Multi-vitamins at an early age! ![]() |
CROWNWEALTH019:There you go again, Ozoepkpe. ![]() Wailers like you, said more than this in the Past. But the President walked back to Nigerian soil, on his two feet. Shamelessly, many of you refuse to do the needful.... jump into the Lagoon. Buhari will soon be back, God-willing ....and your misery continues. ![]() God bless and reinvigorate our President, Gen. Muhammad Buhar (Retd, GCON) |
DAramis: Originalsly:I am happy Nigerians are getting wiser and doing "what ought to be done, instead of just TALKING". "When a Bird learns to fly without perching, the Hunter also learns to shoot without missing". We need to take actions to ensure that those who perpetrate this evil in NIPOST, are Punished. The way to go about this is by GATHERING EVIDENCE, in form of Video and Audio gadgets. Record what goes on as you enter their office, on your phone. Record the parcel as you open it, even better in their presence If they ask for Bribe or make any wrong accusations against you, RECORD IT. We can prosecute them as "private individuals" or as a pressure group, in the courts. By the time a few of them lands in Jail, they will sit up. Dont let us just talk and talk on Social media or just lament in our homes, without doing anything about it. If we want CHANGE, we must be ready to standUp for our Rights. |
^^^ Who let that Dog out? ![]() Nice one, Harney Projects |
k9ine:I we dig deep enough, we will realise that this is all about CORRUPTION. Not that Nigerian embassy officials hate Nigerians or cant find qualified Nigerians... Somebody is making money off this SCAM. |
popsyleo1:Yeah, we heard that before! ![]() |
spartan117:Its a BIG shame. Govt should look into this and probe the reason behind it. |
chokovirus:Let us break it down a little: The Quit Notice is an intention to recover possession of the said property, by the Landlord, at the prescribed time, as guided by the Tenancy law. We can assume that it is the Landlord that gives Quit Notice (though, a tenant on Contract, can also give notice of "intention to surrender" the property, to the owner). So, the Landlord usually tells the tenant he wants to take possession is six months time, to allow the tenant seek alternative accommodation and in-line with laid down tenancy laws. Under this scenario, the tenant is obliged to still continue to pay for his rent, as at when due (if paying monthly) within the Notice period. if he is paying yearly, it is assumed that he has paid for the Rent in arrears, which covers the duration of the Notice as well (wherein the landlord serves the Notice, six months to the expiry of his yearly rent), otherwise he will pay for the six months and at the end of which, he vacates the property. Such tenant is always liable for the rent, during the Notice period. Let us assume for the sake of explanation, that it was the tenant that "wilfully" gave notice to surrender the accommodation in six months time. But before the end of six months (in three months), he actually surrenders the accommodation. Surrendering the rent earlier than "promised", will not attract any cost since the rent was not under "contract" for six months. This s not a CONTRACT since it lacks all the essential elements of a contract (offer, acceptance and consideration). That is, the tenant cannot be made to pay for the additional three months he has not stayed in the house (by virtue of leaving earlier than said). This is different from a situation where there was a "Contract" to let the place for six months (offer made, offer accepted and payment/consideration exchanged hands) and the tenant, suddenly decides to leave before the contract period ends (within three months) thereby leaving the owner in the lurch, so to speak! In this case, the owner is at liberty to recoup the cost for the full six months, as contracted between the two. |
This is not news-worthy! Until hear that Nnamdi Kanu comes to address them in that 'open gathering' of more than 10 people, then l will take them serious. ![]() Instead of all this meaningless gatherings and chest-beating ultimatums, just pack yourself into Bus and head for Onitsha...and dont come back again. That is it; Beerfraud has come to being. |
kingzizzy:Dont mind these Noise makers and alarmist! They keep shouting that Army came to beat them up yet in ALL THE PICTURES they are posting, NOT ONE SINGLE ARMY personnel is seen in the those pictures. Bloody lying LiePOBS |
Fundamentalist:Ignorant follower of a Pagan Muhammed the Paedophile! Being "One' is a figure of Speech that indicates the "Close relationship and Unity of Purpose" between God (the Father), Jesus Christ (His Son) and the active Force of Jehovah (The Holy Ghost). It is not a PHYSICAL definition, Muumu! That you worship an Arab murderer and Paedophile who asks you to commit terrorist activities all over the place, is not my concern. ![]()
