Worst case, they would abuse and probably embarrass him, datzz all. So, what is your GAIN in all that?

University operates a committee based system of government. The first question the committee would ask is why didn't she switch off her phone? That alone is an act of insubordination. A very serious offence in University code of conduct.

Any body asking for equity must come with clean hand. The lecturer's action may seem excessive. I think the lecturer's intention was to send message and it was indeed sent.

Actually, the Lecturer was doing a legitimate job (Teaching) and rendering [b]a Service that was Paid for, by many Students in that Class

- Does another Student have the right to disturn or prevent the Lecturer from doing his legitimate job, in his "office or place of work"?
- Would such Student enter the Office of a Police DPO or an Army Major and start using his Phone to disturb either fo them and prevent them from doing their work?
- Does that student have the right to prevent other students who paid huge tution fee, from getting the benefit of learning, which they paid for?

If a Student wants to show-off his Iphone 13, he should do it outside Class.
If he does it in a lecture Theatre, during Classes, then he has put himself and his phone in Jeopardy.

Let him sue the lecturer to a Civil Court and let the Judge decide.

I can understand that we all make MISTAKES because No One is Perfect!

As one of those who made the MISTAKE of bringing Buhari to Power in 2015, though l did it from a pure conscience as l thought and believe Jonathan's Government has lost control over his PDP-Looters (I have nothing personal against Jonathan and l supported his election in 2007,2009 and 20011).
l erroneously thought Buhari will improve things (Ex-Military leader and that War Against Indiscipline Drive of 1983).

But hey, that was the biggest MISTAKE l have made in my life, till-date and l will be honest enough to accept it.
The Negative effect of that MISTAKE will be with us (all of us), for a very long time to come.

But Once is a Mistake, Twice is Stoopidity/Foolishness!

What l cannot understand, is that millions of People like me who made that mistake of 2015 and brought the current mistake into Power, have not learnt anything from our Mistake and are prepared to REPEAT THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN!

Voting Tinubu for President in 2023 (I have nothing Personal against him), will be like giving Buhari another 8yrs, despite the calamity of the last 7years!
No matter what, l will NEVER be part of such MISTAKE AGIAN. Never!!

OKERENKOKO, UBIMA, DAURA AND THE AMAECHI TRAGEDY

On Saturday the 5th of February, 2022, barring last minute changes, the drums will be rolled out amidst ostentatious political fanfare as Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, Catholic Knight of St. John, will be turbaned by the Emir of Daura as the “Dan Amanar Daura”, meaning the “trusted son of Daura”. While Daura will regale in the pomp and pageantry concomitant with an event of that magnitude, there will be eerie silence mixed with frustration from expectation that has been murdered in both Okerenkoko, Delta State and Ubima in Rivers State. Somehow, Amaechi has managed to demonstrate, with carefree gusto and queerness that what is good for Daura is not good for Okerenkoko and Ubima.

As the Daura event hits the national airwaves, not a few Nigerians will remember with heavy heart the altercation that erupted between Rt Hon Amaechi and then Minister of State Petroleum, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, at a federal government townhall meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in 2016.

Amaechi, with magisterial swagger, had summarily overruled the continued federal government investment in the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta State, with impervious insensitivity on the phantom ground of “misplacement of priority, insecurity” and what he termed “humongous amount of money” that was paid by the government to acquire the land for the university.

Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, completely miffed by such brazen brashness and callous insensitivity to the people of Niger Delta by Amaechi, courageously disagreed with the Minister of Transportation, arguing that whatever reservation he might have about the processes that had gone into the Maritime University, it was wrong to throw away the baby with the bathwater. “Any facility that is located at the South-South, we should work close to developing it”, Kachikwu had posited, drawing a thunderous applause from the audience much to the chagrin of the grimacing Minister of Transportation.

For his boldness and expression of support for the development of critical educational infrastructure in the south-south geopolitical as in any other part of the country, Ibe Kachikwu was bitterly persecuted and actively blackmailed by the powerful super-minister Amaechi until the hapless man was unceremoniously pushed out of the cabinet.

Sadly, today, whatever reservation Amaechi had about Okerenkoko is a child’s play compared to the massive investment in the University of Transportation Daura and the crippling insecurity raging in that part of the country, but never has it been said by the Minister that the infrastructure should be cancelled. What is good for Daura cannot be good for Okerenkoko.

If Amaechi’s shocking attitude to Okerenkoko was disconcerting, his inexplicable about-turn on the University of Transportation Ubima, which he himself had suo moto proposed will be a study in knavish sycophancy.

The Minister of Transportation, since 2017, had been singing it like a song at the slightest opportunity in every forum that the federal government had concluded plans to build a University of Transportation in Ubima, his home town in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State, and that the project was to be funded as part of CCECC’s Corporate Social Responsibility by investing a component of their profit from construction of railway in Nigeria.

Back home in Rivers State, Amaechi’s publicist and propagandist, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, has been inundating news outlets in his ceaseless composition of monotonous panegyrics for Amaechi, listing the proposed University of Transportation Ubima as “Amaechi’s achievement for Rivers State” in his scarcely reasonable vituperation.

Not only that, in Amaechi’s community Ubima, countless thanksgiving services have held in churches, with local women wriggling their waist in choreographed dance patterns, carrying offerings of their agricultural produce on their heads in procession to the alter to thank God for this unseen University which their illustrious son said plans had been concluded to construct in their home town.

Even on the political scene, the unseen university had been deployed as instrument of bragging right in Rivers State against the ruling party.

You can now understand why everyone was jolted when, after raising hope to Mount Olympus about University of Transportation Ubima, on one hot afternoon in October 2018, Amaechi announced that the University was now going to be constructed, not in Ubima in Rivers, but in Daura in Katsina.

And before his vuvuzelas could come out to rationalize such disheartening about-turn, perhaps, thinking that the Minister might have been handed down a superior instruction about the location of the university, Amaechi himself came out to say that the decision was not influenced by anyone, that it was his own call, uninfluenced, to take the University to Daura.

As if that was not bad enough, on the day the groundbreaking for the University of Transportation Daura was done by President Buhari, Amaechi, on live television, stood before a stunned and bewildered Nigerian audience and declared himself a sycophant.

He stated, "I HAVE NO REGRETS, MR RESIDENT, SITING THIS UNIVERSITY WHERE L SITED IT (DAURA), AND I REPEAT QUICKLY THAT I WAS INFLUENCED BY NOBODY, SO IT I AM BEING ACCUSED OF SYCOPHANCY, LET ME ADMIT IN ADVANCE THAT L AM SYCOPHANTIC".

The self-declared sycophant may actually have no regrets at all, but while Amaechi has scavenged personal honours by knowingly depriving his own people the benefit of the University of Transportation Ubima which he himself, on his own accord, had promised to site in his place in exchange for a title from the Daura Emirate, disappointment will envelope his land on Saturday. And so will gloom strangle the neck of Okerenkoko and the South-South for the frustration of the maritime university by the Minister of Transportation.

Amaechi could have sited the University of Transportation in Daura, but he did not have to oppose the Maritime University in Okerenkoko. He could have moved the university to Daura even after the promise to Ubima, after all, he is only a Minister and people will understand if the President’s home town takes precedence over that of the Minister, but he did not have to brag that he was a sycophant who was influenced by no one. Therein lies the tragedy of Amaechi and his place in the history of the Niger Delta.

I think we should explain things in our native language, maybe it will help all of us understand.
Most of you are "Reasoning without Context" of usage of the English phrase!
maybe they dont teach Grammar, Lexis and Structure anymore in our Schools otherwise, the kind of ignorance (no offense Sir) l am seeing on this thread, just to understand what "Private Property" means, is astonishing!

I have seen hundreds of Estate, outside this country, bult by private Developers, Fenced and Gated and despite paying Tax to Govt, it is stilla Private Estate.
There was one which a Phone Snatcher ran into and we reported it to the Police, by calling emergency Numbers.
The Police arrives and phoned the "Private Security" employed by the owners of the Estate, explained to them what their mission was and asked to be let-in (ordinarily, they cant refuse to let the Police in but as a matter of courtesy and respect for the rule of Law, the Police have to ask first!
It is only when they refuse to let them in, that the Police will now invoke their own Powers, under the Constitution, to legally perform their duty, by getting an instant warrant of entry over the phone (l am sure most Nigerians have not seen or heard of that one) and force their way in.
The fact that they have obtained (an emergency) warrant of entry, before pulling down the gates, means it is no longer a "forced entry" and the owners/private security of such Estate can even be sued for "Obstruction of Justice", preventing the Police from doing their work.

The Private Security Opened up, cooperated with the Police, gave CCTV footage and the thief (and those who housed him) were promptly fished out and arrested. The Police thanked the Private Security and left with the Accused persons.
That is how Private Security and Police synergize together, in an environment where everyone adheres to the Law, not in our own case where "Dont you know me and Bigmanism" is the order of the day.

A few things l noticed on that day was that:
- The Police who came were on official duty and so dressed.
- The mission was logged on the Police "Coordinating Software" and those who responded were responding to "a Call incident"
- Nothing was taken "Personal", it was all done Professionally and the Police were not trying to show Superiority (like we dont know who is superior!?)
- The Police did not barge in or shout at the private Security men nor Order them to Open the Gate. They explained and were let in as expected.
- Police does not see the Private Security guys as their inferior or enemy but as "Partners who assist them to fight Crime, doing the otherwise rudimentary Work that would have engaged Police time (it is only in Nigeria that the job of "State-trained' Policemen is to carry the Bag of the Wife of one Big Man grin

or do the job of Gate Man!)
- The Police were thankful after the operation, were courteous all through and the privat Security did everything to assist them.
One may ask: Why all these Courtesy by the Police, despite their superior and legally backed activity? The answer is because they were trying to work in a Private Estate .. and there was a sign boldly anchored to the gate proclaiming: This is a Private Property Estate, Please Report to the Security Staff to gain Entry.
The Police knew what this meant and these were Canadian Police!

Now, in the case of Nigeria:
- CP was in Mufti, he was coming in on a Public Holiday, there was no prior distress call and so he was not responding to any Emergency!
- CP was was a Social Visit, to attend a Party. (In sane Climes, he wont even come with a barrage of escorts, just him or maybe one orderly but in Nigeria, everything is a "Power-Show" wink

- CP indicated he was going to see a resident of the Estate. For Security reasons, it is the duty of the "Gate Security" to contact the Resident first, inform them of the Visitor and ask if the Visitor is expected and should be allowed in! There are cases when you dont want a Visitor or the Visitor is coming -in, unannounced or even a danger to such resident, it is the duty of the gate Security to find out whether to allow the Visitor to visit the Resident, based on the express instruction of the Resident!

- this angered the CP because, as a "Big Man", he is above all those level and how dare ordinary Gate Security men, ask him to wait while they contact the resident or find out if the Resident should allow him inside! "Dont you know Who l am", is a very familiar phrase in Nigeria. grin

- And the CP showed his POWER! His abuse of State Power! Power that he may not have tomorrow, Power that should otherwise be deployed in arresting Bandits. But he chose to deploy such Powers against innocent, Private Security men, doing their job.
Such is the recklessness and impunity amongst we Nigerians. We abuse Power, from the very top to the agressive gateman.

Now, on the flip side, let us assume, without conceding, that the Security men were "Rude" to the C.P (you can define that Rudeness as: Sir, is the Resident expecting you? You will have to wait here while we contact the Person you came to see. Wait here Sir.
Yes, that is "rudeness" to any "big Man" in Nigeria, they cant wait, they dont obey Protocol, they dont follow rules, they are just too big to follow the rules they make. The Nigerian Big Man is just to be feared.. grin

And God help you if you allow the "Big Man" in a Nigerian, especially the one that has State Power, to show its face.
C.P bundled then into his Van and straight to illegal detention but of course, this is Nigeria, who will challenge the Power of a 'big man'?
This is "Rule of Power", not "Rule of Law"! Raw, naked Power!!
And he extended the "goodwill" of his Power to the substitutes that were brought-in, after he has left for his party. grin

Not minding that they have not done anything to him or even met him in Person, the fact that they did not all scamper to safety and as Fela Anikulapo Kuti will put it, "Everybody Scatter-Scatter and run, run-run", he also bundled them into the cell. illegally.

For the avoidance of doubt, "Private" means exactly that.. "Private", NOT GENERALLY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
Unlike a Public Street with individual Houses, the Occupants of a Private Estate have a Single Landlord of the fenced (enclosed) land Area (the original owner of the land, sold to individuals as land or as built houses).
The Occupants have a prior agreement in place, prior to occupancy, to come together as a Unit (Estate), to work together and have an MOU of Rules to guide them. In some cases, the Estate are Registered with the CAC.

But for a "Public" Area, everybody dpes as they like and there is no agreement to any rule, before occupancy.
For those who saying Govt owns the land and therefore, there is nothing like "Private Estate", l say you are very ignorant!
Even the salary you work for, your own money, you still have to pay Income tax on it but what is left of such income, is your money, your PRIVATE Money, to spend as you deem fit.
Payment of Land use Tax is legal but doe snot vitiate the Rights of the owner of the land, within the ambit of the law.

The Constitution of Nigeria also allows ownership of Property Privately. It is there in the Constitution of Nigeria: the right to OWN Property.
So, whatever you OWN, is "private" to you and you can extend such ownership to others, at your pleasure, within the ambit of the law.

In the academics, their is a branch of Law called "Private Property Law", to distinguish it from public Property Laws.

C.P is the typical Nigerian and we can see some Nigerians (if not most), clapping for him, for "Exercising Power" to the maximum.
Abuse of Power, is not the same thing as Exercising conferred Authority. This is the simple knowledge that most people are lacking.
Power conferred by virtue of the Position you occupy is service to the Public, is to be used with discretion and not to be abused.
Such Power is not meant to be used to intimidate the Citizens or harass them or abuse them , it is to be used to protect and serve them.
The C.P. if the account we hear is true, has erred, he should apologise or be repremanded.

Because we have allowed impunity to reign for so long, Nigeria has become a terrible place for the sane to live and we can all see the impact, in our daily lives. When was the last time that you heard that a Police Officer followed a citizen tot he ATM at gun point, just to extort him, in those sane countries? But it has become "normalised" in Nigeria.

Just as some are normalising the CP's abuse of Power, despite their ignorance of what "Private Porperty" entails.

C of O actually means the land belongs to d government and u just a tenant on d land and dat u will be required to pay tenement rate going forward yearly. The police does not need Warrant to enter any property. They only need a warrant to SEARCH a property. They can enter and not search. If d estate believe d CP arrest was illegal, I dare dem to go to court

So, Police can FORCEFULLY enter any PRIVATE property, at anytime but need a search warrant only when they want to search the property! grin

The above then raises a simple question (assuming what you said was right) : What will be the purpose of such forceful entry (without Warrant) into a private property? Perhaps to view the beauty inside? grin

FORCEFUL ENTRY into a private property only presupposes two things: to Search or to make an Arrest ...... and both things Need a WARRANT.

I dont know how to explain to you guys anymore, l guess it has to do with your mindset of "once it is the Police, they are above the law" grin

and in that mentality, l cant help you.

Infact, when it comes to Land, it is a valid "Proof of Ownership".

BTW, Land use Charge is a form of tax, it does not take away from the Rights of a Land Owner

Too many Nigerians like you are so ignorant of your Rights, that the abnormal, abusive behaviour of these Govt Officials have become normalised in your senses and you are allowing them to legalize it.

CP "Feeling embarrassed" is not an offense codified in Nigerian Laws, so he arrested those people illegally and should be sanctioned for it.

Let's get some things right, it's individual building that are private property, the estate roads, electric infrastructure are property of the state, that automatically gives security agent the right to be accessed. Sometimes most of this security guards obey their paymasters as against constituted authority which isn't right. Also the CP should have temper down considering that he is dealing with members of the public who are Taxpayers and I guess that widow must have said something to infuriate the CP that's why he must have locked her and kids up which obviously isn't right.

If a whole CP, with all his training, can be worked-up to the point of abusing his power, by mere WORDS, then he is not worth the "C' in that rank!
Controlling your temper and staying in Control of your emotions, is one of the first thing a real Policeman should have been taught.

The estate is not a private property. And the security at the gate aired.

It is a Private Property, in as much as it is not a Public Property!
You seem to be mixing up an "individual" property, with "private" property! grin

Individuals can own Private Property and when in large numbers, it is still a Private Property held by many individuals.
And the fact that they have an "Association of Residents", makes it even more a Collective private property.

Compare that to a property owned by the Govt, on behalf of the PUBLIC, (Police Station, Ministries, Ports, etc).

CP cannot claim any Right when on Social visit to a Private Estate and he should be ashamed of claiming "embarrassment", using his official position on a Social trip for an owambe party.

Private security guards were not smart enough. At times it is better to avoid trouble if you are not in vantage position.
Hakeem odumosu abuse his power for three reasons.
1. Arresting widows and kids was not necessary. Why detaining them for 5 hours.
2. Detailing security guards was abuse of power.
3. Ignoring pleas of people in the estate to release the victims did not make sense.

Taking the story on face value, he even arrested the new Sets of Security Men he met at the Gate, on his way out!
These ones were not even around but were put in place to ensure the Safety of the people of the Estate, after he has arrested the initial ones, on his way in!
What manner of Power Show is this? Has Nigeria become a truly failed Country like Yemen, that raw, naked abuse of Power is the order pf the day?

Most Parents are becoming over-protective of the Children, though they think they are showing love.
The end result is that you will have a Child who cannot stand his own in tough situations, who does not know the 'street rules' and cannot survive on the street, an over-dependent Child.
You wont always be there to defend them, let them learn how to defend themselves.

If my child reports bullying to me, l usually ask two questions: Is the bully very much older than you? If the answer is YES, only then will l step-in and go find out what his problem is. I will try to resolve the issue amicably so that he would see reason to Stop but l wont beat him for my child.
I will never run-down a teacher isn the presence of my Child, it destroys a Child, long term, better to call the teacher, "out of ear-shot" of your Child and sort out issues with him/her.

Russia is currently working on a Mutual Defense Pact with China.
Once that is concluded, NATO and US Forces cant do jerk.

But let us look at what is really happening, aside the Propaganda being spread, mostly by Western Media.
- Crimea and even Ukraine, used to be a part of the USSR, for which Russia is the Capital (Moscow).

- Ukraine used to be a strategic, Black Sea Nuclear submarine city of USSR, but was lost on the breakup of USSR. That caused a lot os security concerns for Russia, as his military influence in that area was destroyed and handed over to Ukraine.

- Every country has its own "fears" from enemies, including America (who would never allow a Communist State on its borders (Example is why it is destroying Cuba with Sanctions, till today!)

- On break-up, US/EU and Russia signed a Pact that NATO will not expand towards Russian borders and Russia too will not expand towards Europe. Also, the EU will not admit those former Russian 'break-aways' into NATO or the EU alliance.

- NATO/EU, with the support and egging-on of the US, has continue to expand and encircle Russia, with hostile states like Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, etc, by admitting them to be members of EU/NATO.

- The implication of these encirclement of Russia is that a Missile launch attack on Russia, by NATO/US, from one of those neighbouring States surrounding Russia, will take less than 5mins to hit Moscow, giving Russian defense less time to act and defnd themselves.
Russia see this as an Existential threat. and has warned that it will not allow this to happen.

- The people of Crimea had a Referendum and by popular Democratic Vote, DECIDED that they wanted to be a art of Russia, since they are historically Russians, by Language and Origins. Dont forget, they were treated as 2nd Class citizens in Ukraine, being not in Political Power!

- The people of Dumbass (part of Ukraine) are also engaged in a Civil War with their Central Govt because they are Russians and want to be part of Russia, like their brothers in Crimea. Ukraine Govt has been using massive force to suppress their agitation and will not allow a Referendum on the matter.

- US/EU (NATO) is currently urging Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland to be belligerent towards Russia, promising them Support, because they want to have Military Bases next door to Russia, from where they can undermine and attack Russia.

- They are also arming these Countries against Russia and have encouraged Ukraine to retake Crimea with Force, something the know will be catastrophic for Ukraine.

- US wants to use NATO to destroy Russia, so that it can return to the Uni-Polar World where it is the only Super Power and can do as it wishes. This is why it is also trying to destroy China. The US cannot live or survive, without being the only Super Power in the World, because its glory is anchored around the whole World working and Sweating to collect a piece of Paper called "the Dollar $$$", which it Prints in one of its Factory!

- That is why the US destroyed Countries like Libya and their Leader (Gadaffi), Iraq's Saddam Hussein, who proposed that the Dollar should not be the only Currency of international trade but that Gold should rather be used.

- That is why the are focused on destroying Chinese Businesses like Huawei and other technology Companies from china, because they dont want the Chinese Yuan to be used for international trade.

Back to Ukraine: I think Russia knows what Ukraine is planning and Russia will invade Ukraine and even take Dumbas Region from it, if it tries to take Crimea back by force. Crimea will NEVER return to Ukraine, the are Russians and are happy in Russia.

- If NATO and US decide to attack Russia (which l know they would dare not, because the consequences are far too much for them, militarily and economically; dont forget that they are both Nuclear Super Powers and such Countries dont attack each other grin

, less it be a case of "Assured Mutual Destruction" (AMD Processor! grin

- Is Russia stronger than US? Hell, No!
But Russia, in its present state, has enough military Capability to inflict damages of the sort that the US cannot afford, on America.

-Is China stronger than US? Hell, No. But together with Russia, they can put the US out of Existence.
