Now, we can address this matter in two ways.

1.) Try to find out who was right, between FAAN and the M.D of AIC Limited, Mr. Akande:
The matter was before the courts before they both decided to take matters into their own hands (both parties).
None of them was sensible enough, not even Mr. Akande, to let the law take it full course.

But eventually, the law may be slow but it is steady. The matter will be adjudicated upon and justice served.


2.) Try to look at the "micro event/behavior" of that Policeman:
There are two Policemen in the Video.
From the "background" provided by ChannelsTV (above),
*Mr. Akande brought ARMED Policemen the Airport to "enforce" his interest in the matter
*FAAN staff resisted him and his Policemen and threw stones at them.

This is just the summary of the whole matter. BOTH PARTIES ARE WRONG IN TRYING TO USE FORCE!

Having said that, if we focus on the UTTERANCES of the two policemen, we must start asking ourselves SERIOUS QUESTIONS:

Front Policeman: I will rough handle you. I WILL GUN YOU DOWN!
Second Policeman (behind): (Initially trying to hold-back the front one)..I will leave him to gun you down o! (see the continuation of the expression, as he gesticulates with his hands!)
Front Policeman: Thats all, l swear to "gawd", l WILL GUN YOU DOWN... (he swears and repeats it many times to show his seriousness)

Now, the Questions:

*Gunning somebody down in cold blood IS MURDER. ------ Penalty = Death
*Even in self-defense, it is still MANSLAUGHTER ------- Penalty = 25yrs ... to Life Imprisonment
*When it is "pre-meditated" (planned and executed), it is AGGRAVATED MURDER ----Penalty = Death

Now, in this case, the person involved is a POLICEMAN.... threatening to kill a FAAN officer (Government staff!)
By training (if Nigeria Policemen/women have any useful training at all), rules of engagement should have taught him a few things:

1.) How to defuse a volatile situation
2.) Not to use firearms on UNARMED CIVILIANS
3.) He cannot be the Accuser, Judge and Executioner, all at the same time!
4.) Worst case scenario, if his own life (Policeman) is in GRAVE DANGER (and this is evidently NOT THE CASE, from the Video), to Shoot in such a manner NOT TO KILL the assailant ...but to incapacitate/disarm the assailant
5.)His primary duty is to "Serve and to Protect" ....not to KILL at the slightest provocation!

Just imagine: That all it took this Policeman to make himself "GOD" is the "Police Uniform" that is on his neck!
The way he was boasting about the threat makes me think that "this ANIMAL" has killed not a few people in the past!
He seems to bathe in the glory and euphoria that he can terminate the life of another humanbeing/Government staff... without any recourse to the due process of the law!

But that is the AVERAGE NIGERIAN POLICEMAN FOR YOU!
Even "WILD ANIMALS in the bush", kill out of necessity, for FOOD.. but these NIGERIAN POLICE kill for the FUN AND BRAVADO of it!
They kill innocent people at will, even for primordial issues like fighting over a lady! (remember the story of the APO SIX in Abuja? Google it if you will)

But even more sad is the 'response of the average Nigerian' ...to such callousness!
Just read the comments and you would wonder whether the average Nigerian has not lost it completely!
Its either "RUN" when you see a Policeman or "Yes, he should Gun Him down", it is deserved!
This is the shame of the current generation.

They have been so MENTALLY BRUTALIZED, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, that BRUTALITY has become the NORM, for them.
They have been so TRAUMATIZED and treated INHUMANELY so much so that they themselves have lost any and all sense of Humanity!
They have become like WILD ANIMALS...... and EXPECT TO BE TREATED LIKE ANIMALS.

I feel sorry, l cry inwardly for this Generation!
I fear for the Future of this country..... with this type of "Dog Eats Dog mentality" that has become the norm!

In "sane countries", that Policeman, will be DISARMED and placed on IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION.
HE would be quickly investigated, and dismissed from the Police Force.
If need be, he would be tried for "Threat to life and Verbal Assault". He would have his day in a law Court...and maybe a few years in "reformation" Prison!
