With the advent of floods worldwide, some people may not be able to use their cars through particular areas, opting for public transportation instead. So, I found this in a Honda owner's manual, hoping it would be of use.
If you need to park your car for an extended period (more than 1month), there are several things you should do to prepare it for storage. Proper preparation helps prevent deterioration and makes it easier to get your car back on the road. It is best to store your car indoors if at all possible.
*Fill the fuel tank. *Change the engine oil and filter. *Wash and dry the exterior completely. *Clean the interior. Make sure the carpeting, floor mats, etc. are completely dry. *Leave the parking brake off. *Put the transmission in Reverse (manual) or Park (automatic). *Block the rear wheels. If the car is to be stored for a longer period, it should be supported on jackstands so the tires are off the ground. *Leave one window open slightly (if the car is being stored indoors). *Disconnect the battery. *Support the front wiper blade arms with a folded towel or rag so they do not touch the windshield. *Apply a silicone spray lubricant to all door and trunk seals. Also, apply wax to the painted surfaces that mate with the door and trunk seals. *Cover the car with a "breathable" car cover, one made from a porous material such as cotton. Non-porous materials, such as plastic sheeting, trap moisture which can damage the paint. *If possible, run the engine for a while periodically (preferably once a month). *If you store your car for 12 months or longer, perform the inspections called for in the 24 months/48,000 km (30,000miles) maintenance schedule (Normal Conditions) as soon as you take it out of storage. The replacements called for in the maintenance schedule are not needed unless the car has actually reached that time or mileage.
I would also add that: *You spray underneath the carpets with insecticide powder (Gongoni or others). *You install a very potent otapiapia/rat poison in the engine bay. *If your tyres are liable to self-relocate, relocate them to your house.
nurey: The government will not open border to make revenue, they will close it and bad eggs will cash on it.
When it is too late to do anything, they willl now bring a useless policy to try and combat the effective, more like injecting the brain because of common headache.
What do you expect from a British housewife & a vegetable?
SmartchoiceNGR: Agents won't allow. I will like to reserve my comments about some top agents in here... My experience...no be here. Eventually I learnt how to do the needful... cutting them off.
kalz26: My brother, run ooo....Honda Accord cars are great no matter the year if you get a good one but that leg pulling ish nearly killed me once. The distance i trekked on the highway in a foreign community to find mechanic no be here. On a Sunday for that matter, I entered a pothole at 60-80km/hr na em the right leg comot, my custom rim split in two, tyre was punctured, I nearly enter bush sha...
That's the aim. Automakers are trying to make them as non-DIY as possible. They're even rumoured to be pushing for legislation to make it illegal to repair them yourself outside of a dealership.
The Honda Accord is a great car and has been one of the top selling sedans each year since it’s release. When it comes to newer Accords, used models are a safe bet. The models built between 1996 and 2003 however should be avoided like the plague. These model Accords suffer from widespread transmission failures. The problem usually shows up around 90,000 miles and ends up completely failing soon after. The replacement can cost upwards of $2000.00 and even after replacement the problem may return. The 2000-2001 Accords were given extended warranties as the result of a class action lawsuit, but by now that warranty has expired. Unless the seller can provide proof that the transmission has recently been replaced, don’t even think about buying one of these vehicles. All are Hondas
Is that four decades? Is this not your "handwriting"?
Most of the time, when things like this happen, our mechanics would spread word fast about the incident. That's how a lot of automotive myths & fallacies become "fact".
SmartChoices: Number two Average repair cost: $1,190.18
Catalytic converter troubles are the second-most common issue drivers face and are such a problem because these parts won’t fail unless there is an underlying problem, such as with a spark plug or ignition coil, or both. It represented 6.75 percent of repairs in 2016. This is the most expensive repair in the top 10 by far.
Nna mehn, see reflection, no wonder it's more than $1k.
This your Honda hatred sef, na wa oh. Their ball-joint problem happens at low speed (I haven't seen or heard of a high speed scenario). Toyota has the highest & most dangerous recalls in Japanese automotive history (perhaps the world over) & I don't see you say anything about them. Dem blow whistle ontop Hyundai/Kia head, you no talk. Even revered Mercedes Benz denied rollover tendencies of their 1st A-class until they couldn't hide it. Takata (though not technically an automotive company) has put more lives in danger, no response. Help us with reports of new recalls, but please stop telling people to avoid a particular brand, unless all governing bodies involved say you should.
obafemee80: Wiki said the vehicle used must also be fitted with a lockable differential (common on 4x4s) I never said a small car cannot be used, but must be fitted with a lockable differential(which is common on 4×4s)
You shouldn't have added the "common on 4x4s", it would make someone think that only 4x4s can "ski".
InvertedHammer: If I order the components, I can retrofit my own car to be bulletproof. The same way the car companies will order the components and retrofit their models just like any armouring company. The car companies do not manufacture those components. As such it is just a service they are willing to provide. The ones they build are readily available in the market. Armoring and limousines are by special arrangements which are possibly subcontracted out or operated under a subsidiary.
If you order Boeing 777, the American company will deliver as ordered. But the engine is subcontracted to Rolls Royce. It doesn't take away the fact that 777 is a Boeing product. The same principle goes in other manufacturing companies.
SmartchoicesNG: - Low Profile Tonneau Covers - These are for truck owners. As air flow goes over the cab of the truck, it then flows into the bed of the truck, which catches the air and prevents it from smoothly passing by. This inefficient airflow makes it so that you have to push the accelerator more to accelerate, thereby consuming gas. A low profile bed cover makes that air flow past the cab more smoothly, thereby allowing acceleration with less effort...
LeoT1: I'm enjoying your contributions. Does anyone know the prices of 2017 models of these cars in Nigeria now?
The possibility that taste and preferences may change after 3 years got us thinking. Though a 5 seater is not bad for a family of 5, what if there is an unplanned addition to his family?
Financing for cars here could let you pay only a rental value for first 3 years thereafter you could drop the car or own it for half the original price. This maybe the best way to go.
Thanks guys, you have been objective and insightful.
Sorry oh. I hope I'm not too late. Please, tell your friend not to choose the emboldened as a lot of intricacies are involved. They would sweet-talk you into dropping the first deposit, then time to complete payment & you find out it's going to cost twice the sticker price. He should've read the T&Cs down to the fine print. In fact, he's better off buying outright. A lot of stories abound online of people supposedly "duped" by car dealers, only to discover later they were not thorough.
