agbameta: How do you even get any form of credible development in the delta when half of 8 years budgets, allocation, taxes and derivations landed in Ibori's personal accounts all over the world.? Hope you know what is called RCA, root cause analysis, all what you mentioned are symptoms of a deeper problem affection the whole country, to just Nigerdelta. If tackled structurally then a lot of these says tops will automatically resolve. |

Demdem: Listen to atlwireless, what he is saying makes a lot of sense, outside of Lagos, which other state in the SW is better than any state in the SS or SE, they are all he same on the average. Your next argument would be that if the SW states had more funds, they would achieve much more, but I have 2 answers to that. 1- with the present structure we are running, more money translates to more money to steal, so you absolutely cannot say he SW states wold do better 2- the SE states also do not receive an allocations, so how far better is the SW states than the SE states, lagos is exceptional so leave it out. 3- one of the more corrupt people, profiting immensely from SW funds is Tinubu, how many questions has he been asked? As far as I am concerned, if the FG is the one paying the states, then the states would not be accountable to the people, a govt that running outside of the monies generated from its citizens is a misnomer and is by default not accountable to the people. 1 Like |

Politics / Re: Ben Bruce - Spending $8bn On Fuel Importation Is Crazy by DaLover(m): 9:34pm On Sep 20, 2013 |
GodhelpNaija: I still doubt if the present government is sincere, GEJ promised 4 refineries during campaign, all we are seen is a step from private individual which will still boil down to exploiting masses,My opinion on fuel subsidies is FG should build refineries, this will not only remove subsidies, it will end future scarcity and give millions on Nigeria youth employment, unlike all these SURE-P,OYES and other names they called it. As if they can employ there own children under these yeye program. Do you know what subsidy means at all? When the price is controlled by govt, such that it is less than that driven by market forces, then that is subsidy. Weather the govt pays cash to subsidize fuel, or govt losses money by not selling certain amt of crude oil at market price but self refining it and selling it at a lower price. |

atlwireles: All those calling for repealing and scraping the NDDC and the Nigerdelta ministry are wasting their time, that is not going to happen. I will like to see this two, merged together and restricted to only inter state projects. The region needs an improved waterway system. An inter state rail system. Not classrooms and markets buildings, that are suppose to be function of local governments and state governments. it makes sence, but the question of how it is funded comes into play, |

Kayode, unfortunately ur elders in Yoruba land were part of the people that fought to keep Nigeria one, The only reason why the center is so strong is because of the attraction for the control of the crude oil resources, nothing more, nothing less, indeed, that is what is old in the country together. |

Gbawe: What is Tambuwal saying that intelligent Nigerians have not worked out ages ago when our President is hideously crude, unbelievably brazen and "don't give a damn" transparent? Who is emotional and personally dishonest enough not to know the plot behind handing pipeline protection contracts to militant that has now resulted in monumental oil theft? Where do Nigerians think the massive amount of stolen money is going? All these hue and cry will not bi an issue if resource control is implemented and there are land use reforms to ensure that the land owners can profit from the resources in their lands |

Nairaland / General / Re: 30-story Building Built In 15 Days by DaLover(m): 1:10pm On Sep 14, 2013 |
The 15 days completion cannot be totally compared fairly to the time it takes to complete conventional buildings, since time and effort was put into fabricating the component parts. If that time is accounted for, we may be looking at something closer to 4 months, though it is still much faster than a conventional building of similar height and size. |

mekaboy: The truth is that you are asking the government for too much, trying to do too much is exactly what got the govt and the citizen into the situation we are right now, govt needs to focus on few solid things to make us break through while we just have to roll up our sleeves and be ready for some hard times and hard work. No more subsidies, no more free stuff, if you can come up with ideas to make people live better, go to a bank and take a loan, hopefully oft policy will protect you. If you need a university education, then take a loan...we cannot keep moving in cycles... That's exactly how it was said Oh poor people cannot afford university education, and the FG ends up running 80 universities or so oh poor people cannot afford fuel, and the govt ends p with 3 non functional refineries. Oh poor people cannot invest in petroleum and the govt ends up establishing NNPC Oh poor people cannot afford health care....and so on and so forth... We need a break from that pattern of doing things. Hats ow we dig deep and become better people |
Politics / Re: Why Is The SW Waging War On GEJ On 2 Fronts? by DaLover(m): 1:47am On Sep 14, 2013 |
Femmyfamous4u: I will like to make some analysis here about GEJ's performance so far since he became president from an unbiased view but before I do that, I will have to say that he is presently running his 4th year as a present since he took over after the demise of Yar'adua. When $300 Ben was being paid as subsidy, do you remember the constant fuel scarcity we always suffered? Over the 8 year of obj and extra years under Yaradua? do you remember that outside lagos and a few other places fuel was never sold at pump price before GEJ? Since GEJ arrived on the scene fuel has been flowing at the same price across the country for more than 3 years now...did it occur to you that it wold cost a lo more to do so? You lie, when you say that GEJ suddenly announced removal of fuel subsidy on 1st jan, as he said it many month prior to that date and even made he date clear to everyone, he fact that you did not take him seriously is not his fault. All the corruption schemes were exposed under him had been going on for a long time before his administration actually aided in the exposure of these schemes, he never tried to cover up any and allowed unfettered access to whoever sort information. eFCC is currently procuring various cases, but our impatient opponents point to the lack of convictions, forgetting that judicial processes could span as much as 10 years or more. On Obj leaving us 4500 MW, that's an out rite lie that doesn't need a response The level of oil theft is a signal o the rest of the nation that resource control beckons at the door, support GEJ to implement resource control and true federalism. How is NGF abuse of power now? If I dalover also decide to recognize jang as the head of NGF, what power am I abusing. Is NGF a constitunal Body? Your reasons are not solid enuf to take the position you are taking now, except there is some other reason, which I suspect is tribal, base on the oil hypothesis I mentioned earlier. 4 Likes |

jenbost: I am not from south west but it is very important to know that the people are highly sophisticated. their ideology is good for our nascent democracy. GEF would not have been the president without the support of this tribe but he disappointed them in the area of good governance and that's why they are against him. if the president change overleaf, Yoruba will be the first to sing his praise song. Before independence to the civil war, the Yoruba voted for AG, a Yoruba party, At the second republic, hey voted for UPN, a Yoruba party, At the beginning of the 3rd republic, they voted for AD, a Yoruba party, For the second term of Obj govt, he appealed to them and they voted PDP because of the Yoruba president. After Obj left office they returned to ACN, the new Yoruba party on the block.. Is this what you are calling highly sophisticated? I am not say other ethnic groups are better, but can you stop making such noises for goodness sake? |

One reason only, he hasn't done enuf to assure the SW of unfettered access to oil wealth control, he even threaten to stop the subsidy which has become a birth right and close shop for the importers.. Politics / Re: Would You Vote For Jonathan If He Contests For 2015 Election? by DaLover(m): 12:19am On Sep 14, 2013 |
mekaboy: Mekaboy always assume that when there is any policy made, people in government will make money one way or the other..if you can be ok with that assumption then it will allow ou to focus on the possible opportunities available to the populace.. Lets take an example, the gsm companies paid $285m each for licence or $1.2bn total for the 4 gsm companies. Now if someone said stop that licenceing process because govt officials would steal most of the $1.2bn paid, would that be sensible? We would still be with Nitel today. Isn't that cutting your nose to spite your face? The greatest challenge African countries face is ability to generate wealth and jobs, forget all the promise of job creation, the govt cannot employ so many people and they are not enuf businesses to absorb the teaming populace... And here we are exporting raw crude without adding value, You export raw crude to the white man at $100 a barrel, he refines it, produces chemicals, drugs, paints, perfumes, etc and sells it back to you at almost $3,000 a barrel. If we stop exporting raw crude and do elementary refining before exporting, we would have added several jobs, created a lot of wealth, imagine 10 Dangote size refineries operating in the country, imagine petrochemical plants, etc But ow can these happen when the govt is subsidizing petroleum products? How will these 10 refineries invest so much money in nigeria, oly for the govt to supply the people below market price. By continuing subsidy, the govt is delaying private entry into the refining business, by continuing to run refineries, the govt is delaying entry of investors into the business. Opportunities to create jobs and wealth are being lost. I understand your concern for the monies that may or may not be stolen, but we have to look at the bigger picture and how it affects us in the long run. If the subsidy is stopped, people will not die, do not deceive yourself, everyone will adjust, we are already suffering, people need to pull them selves up and start thinking of how to generate wealth, no one is entitled to subsidized fuel or subsidized power or health or education, someone somewhere is paying for it somehow or suffering for it, and its definitely not sustainable. The countries that became rich didn't do so because the promised the populace blanket subsidies on everything, power, transport, education, health, agric, sports etc, they did so by using policy and regulation to achieve this. Whenever they subsidized, it was targeted, time bound and aimed at production not consumption, And after they achievd a certain level of wealth not before, now began to implement welfare schemes targeted at the bottom 5% of the population who are unlucky or disabled. Here in nigeria, an extremely poor govt is set up to run a welfare scheme I cannot afford to with extremely poorly paid officials and law enforcement thereby keeping the people in perpetual poverty. |
Politics / Re: Would You Vote For Jonathan If He Contests For 2015 Election? by DaLover(m): 5:11pm On Sep 13, 2013 |
mekaboy: The solution to corruption not lie in chasing people all over the place with EFCC, as long as the conditions are set for corruption to thrive, it will thrive. Its like when armed robbery was so much that the then military govt thought that firing squads would reduce it, guess what? it didn't. To reduce corruption on the long term, we need to increase the middle class, migrate the mass of poor people from the poor class to the middle class. This is what GEJ is doing by actively pursuing power sector and petroleum reforms and deregulation. That is why Dangote is confident to build refinery, foreign investors are rushing into our power projects and international indices are tipping nigeria as a country to watch out for. To reduce corruption at government sector on the short term, as much as possible we need to get govt officials out of opportunities were stealing is possible. I.e if govt officials concentrate more on policy and regulation, rather than running businesses, corruption would be greatly reduced...but many of us don't see I this way, we expect govt to run universities, hospitals, hotels, airports etc...these are all opportunities of corruption and leakages. Another way to reduce corruption on the short term is a proper implementation of true federalism, where the line of accountability are as short as possible, individuals pay taxes to lgas, lgas pay taxes to states and states pay taxes to FG.. It doesn't make sense for the FG or state to be run outside of TAXes from the component parts or individuals within. Remember he who plays the piper dictates the tune. In the example of the assembly member you gave below, why should an assembly member representing port harcourt lga for instance be paid by the FG? Shouldn't he negotiate his salary and entitlements with the LGA he represents? 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Nigeria To Replace South Africa In G20 As Economy Grows by DaLover(m): 5:02pm On Sep 13, 2013 |
Pastor Kun: Why is it wrong to count the revenue shared to states? Lets take the USA for example, the FG earns $3tn and does not share to states, the 50 states earn their own money individually, see the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state_budgets If we add all the money earned by the states plus the American government then we will be talking about $4-5trn. Back to nigeria where everybody's job is to sit and wait for oil to be shared, if the FG earns $60b as you said, the revenue allocation formula gives the states and lgas 55%, hence the FG is left with 45% of $60b or $27bn. Hope you see why we urgently need to restructure and generate wealth and not fantasize on how to get rid of GEJ to control the 9ja delta oil 1 Like |

naptu2: And that's the kind of thinking that draws us backwards. That type of thinking happens everywhere in the world, go to America and see people complain about each other, go to k and see the Scottish complain, what is really drawing us back is the faulty structure that encourages laziness and dependency on oil by components of the country, 774 lgas and 36 states... |

If it is required, then ow much is the true cost? The FCT proposed a total value of $14bn, but how must was approved for expenditure? The fact that there is corruption should not stop you from asking the right questions, asking the right question will help alievate he frustration you are presently facing. 1- we do not have the funds to achieve your expectations, corruption or not. 2- corruption can easily be tackled by a little restructing which we r running away from |

Okontami: F*uck this report. Nonsense write up by a re*tard. So what if the economic power is in the hand of one man. If the churches prefer to build prayer camps with the free monies they are getting instead of investing in the economyetc and the other rich Nigerians prefer to buy houses in Florida and Miami instead of investing in sectors crying for investments,,,then the man that choose to take up the risk should be encouraged. If this can be applied to the refineries, I think we will be better for it. |

Imagin 5 or 6 more refineries around the country, the employment opportunities etc This is very old news, The govt should immediately take the following steps, -privatize the govt owned refineries -fully deregulate the downstream sector, pull NNpC out completely -initiate policies to impose punitive taxes on imported petroleum products -initiate policies to impose punitive taxes on exportation of crude oil -initiate policies to encourage exportation of refined petroleum products This along with the deregulated power sector will provide the necessary jump start for the Nigerian economy. |
