Politics / Re: Why Jonathan Will Never Be President In 2015 by DaLover(m): 12:18pm On Sep 13, 2013
0lumide: Check my posts during the and immediately after the 2011 elections..

I was supporting Jonathan because I thought he understood that Nigerians and not big wigs put him there. Nigerians in the West were on the streets demanding that Jonathan be given his constitutional role in the country. But what do we get?

GEJ totally turned his back on us and started feeding cronies. He became a tribal jingoist and an ethnic warrior. Where were the Igbos when GEJ wasn't given the acting president role in 2010? They all didn't support him and were saying "Jonathan's presidency will affect our turn in the east"

Even Ojukwu the Igbo warlord supported IBB. What do we get? The same failures OBJ used to further impoverish Nigerians were brought back by GEJ and then GEJ called IBB his mentor. We were all disappointed.

Ijaws are coming off as back stabbers. Who was championing the Niger Delta dream on an intellectual level all over global media houses? Is Soyinka from Abonema?

Who helped the barking bulldog from the pit Obasanjo put him in? Yeah the Yoruba lawyer that bargained for his freedom is now a parasite.

Nigerians used to believe in GEJ because we put him there 100%. but what happened? GEJ march our eyes like say na sand.. He pour sand sand for our gari come increase fuel price. He no do any light him come dey use propaganda promote himself. He send e-rioters like beaf to come disturb Nigerians with lies. if you lie online, the truth will always be on the streets and 100% of nigerians are on the streets because everyone online is also on the streets.

Jonathan has failed.

Please be specific on how he has failed, what was to be done, that wasn't done?
For everyone saying he has failed without giving overall specifics, I simply have to conclude tha you are being tribal in your assessment of his administration, and to you I say get thee behind me!

chief batiatus: useless article, why not go to SA and see for yourself if we can match what they have in 50yrs of hard labor? my brothers economy is more than the volume of sales o, its just like the way people ignorantly compare china to america because china is selling more second-hand goods, the value of an economy ultimately comes to the quality of life enjoyed by its citizens. The infrastructure in South Africa will take Nigeria nothing LESS THAN 50 SERIOUS YEARS WITH HARD LABOR AND NO SINGLE CORRUPTION TO BUILD. South Africa has more than 25 cities that can measure with any european city, Nigeria has only Abuja and it is even been hurriedly underdeveloped by all the ignorant FCT ministers that came after El Rufai (first position to Aliero and then Bala). Lagos is a dilapidated old city though fashola is trying, besides this, every other thing are shambles shambles shambles. Starting with Kano it is the biggest dust bin i have ever seen, Port Harcourt is nothing chaos, Ibadan old, dirty and unassuming.

Given the average attitude of most blacks, we cant build or maintain cities, even the cities in SA were built and are been maintained by whites and their policies, i live in an estate where people that went to the university dump their dirt in the gutters so that the rain can wash away - they dont understand where it washes it to and it dosent bother them. I was driving along the airport road one day in abuja and a very clean-looking woman riding in a clean 2000 toyota camry threw away a complete weave-on in a leather bag unto the highway and nobody turned a face!
Nigeria might get better but please lets not overlook the enormous work and responsibility ahead

Batiatus, please take a look at the link I got from Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_budget_by_country
Showing revenues by national governments for different countries in 2011

On line 33, South African govt earned $102bn to cater for about 40 million people
On line 43, Israel earned $66bn to cater for about 6 million people
On line 53, Angola earned $43bn to cater for about 22 million people

On line 66, Nigerian government earned $23bn to cater for about 150million people

I wonder what the press gain from sensationalizing and misdirecting public opinion. Very shamefull

mekaboy:

Govt has $15 to spend, loots $8b, spends $4billion servicing the govt , the uses $3 for the masses. Why remove the 1billion subsidy to add to the already looted funds.
Can you show how abachas loot was spent?

If the govt channels more resources towards improving the standard of living, then if the subsidy is removed the pple can handle it.

All this noise about infrastructure.

What use is good roads, when people can't afford fuel, or when armed robbers are always on the road.

The problem is that we have not had a government that puts the people first or feels the pain of the people.

Why not bring the subsidy guys to book, recover the stolen funds, use it to subsidize for a while.

By the time you remove it our refineries would have been up and running.

Mekaboy, we shouldn't be emotional when arguing, always try to use facts, don't write things that can't be substantiated, someone suffered for the money that was used to educate you, the least you should do is constructivly critise the govt,

The money available to the FG in the past two years is roughly $30bn for infrastructure development, it's easy to see how much may have been spent or how much has been stolen

For roads, the ave is $3.5m per km of dual carriage for brand new construction
I wold estimate about $1m per km of same road for removation.
How many do u know have been done? How much do u think has been spent?

The same for power plants, schools, airports, etc etc etc,
The unit prices are available on the Internet,
The achievements are available even on Naira land
Multiply the unit cost by the avaiebvemets and see the value spent.

Coming here to say they ate $8bn out of $15bn is illiterate beer palour talk.

Until we start doing this we will to see when a government is performing or not, a lot of us will continue to have unrealistic expectations from the FG, a lot of us will not see why the FG needs to take certain steps to increase its revenue base.

Lordlexy: @DaLover. When has initiating policies demands expense of money? Nobody entirely fault the removal of subsidy, but the timing was anti ppl. Again, you will agree with me that even after it was partially removed, the funds have not been judiciosly used because, so far, there are little evidence to that effect. Lastly, a government that's unable to a considerable measure meet the social -basic needs of her citizens such as housing, portable water and security cannot be said to have performed. It is also understandable the junk of income this govt generated from oil is quite unprecedented when you compared it with the previou govt and for that singular reason, in general, most ppl share the sentiment that this govt should have done more. Today, without prejudice, you cannot turn to 3 sectors of the economy and claim they have reached their peak in terms of performances and service delivery. Granted that Mr. President inherited most of the decay, but then, that was the more reason why Nigerians overwhemely voted him to bring sanity. The wanton level of corruption cannot be described as sanity, the unabated insecurity and all of that are indices that could rub the President of what ever glory you claim he achieved. Also, this corruption is rift virtually in all sectors that it appears like it has been instituted. Two years fairly, is enough to restore the ppl's confidence. I wish him well and success.

Lordlexy,
I would like to start with your reference to timing, and I will state categorically that at no time will it ever be perfect to remove subsidy from fuel, be it now, present or past...
How exactly did you confirm that the monies not channeled into subsidy are not being utilized? Do you have empirical evidence or you just felt like writing it?
Let me give a quick example, assuming the FG has $15b to spend annually on infrastructure (capital expenditure), there is a conservative estimate out there that nigeria needs about $200b to bring our infrastructure up to par, I.e decent infrastructure, not European or American standard or anything of a sort, cos those guys spend trillions of dollars achieving that.

Here your government has $15b annually, wouldn't it be sensible to scrap the $1b used to fund subsidy and increase this figure to $16b.
The fact that he figure has increase from $15 to $16 doesn't mean that infrastructure will magically appear because the infrastructure the country country requires is in excess of $200b. The solution is to phase the projects and Cary them out small small.

The best ways to reduce corruption is not by chasing around with poorly paid EFCC officials, it is to reduce the opportunities for corruption.
These opportunities come when govt engages itself in running businesses it should stay away from. Running banks, running pension funds, running universities, hospitals, oil establishments, airports, telecoms, power etc.. If the govt should stop running all these things, corruption will reduce drastically. But unfortunately, instead of our people asking for these to happen, we are busy asking the govt that is poor to run these govt established business as though it had the money to so.

Another way to increase the revenue accuruable to the FG is implementation of resource control
Presently the total revenue in the coffers of the FG is about $80b,
States and LGs get 55% or about $44b, balance is $38b
Recurrent expenditures is about 60% of $38b or $23b
$15b is left for capital expenditure.

If resource control is implemented with 83% tax even
Six ND states generate about $80b and pay 87% tax to FG or $70b
Lets assume the other six zone generate revenues and pay tax to the FG, based on education level and resources available

ND=$70b
SW=$140b
SE= $70b
NW=$20b
NC=$35b
NE=$20b

Total accuruable to FG annual should be $355b.
But instead of fighting for resource control and how components of the contry can become productive contributors we are all fighting to control the presidency and by extension, the nigerdelta oil

Very true, but this vann be achieved when monthly subventions from Abuja is stopped and they are forced to think creatively about making their states attractive for investors, this will create competition

iamdsam: Looking at the way our politicians are gearing up for the 2015 elections even though we still got two years to go has forced me to raise this topic. Though president Goodluck Jonathan hasn't publicly stated that he's going to contest come 2015 election, we've noticed and seen some backstage attempts been made by President Goodluck Jonathan which portrays his interest in contesting for the election. Nairaland as a forum which is made up of viable youths of our dear country are surely gonna participate in the election come 2015. I like us to do a little review of what Goodluck Jonathan has done in Nigeria since he assumed office after Yaradua's death. Would you vote for Goodluck Jonathan come 2015 if he contests? If you would, give reasons why and if you would not, also give your reasons. As for me though, I won't vote for him. He hasn't been able to rule up to expectations. Let's get this going

Could you list your expectations? I wold like to know, because some people have unrealistic expectations, some due to genuine ignorance others really know what is achievable within a 2 year period, but out of sheer evil decide to deceive the rest because they cannot understand how a south south minority man would be ruling over them.
There are also others who have been groomed to believe that someone else should be responsible for providing a subsidized existence for them, someone should pay for their fuel, food, transport, health, education, housing etc, because the govt pot of money is a bottomless pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

There is not easy way to solve Nigeria's problems apart from facing them head on, I remember through out the 8 years of obj, it was continuous fuel scarcity, it took the strong will of GEj, to burst through the subsidy budget limitations to ensure there was constant flow at he pumps, and then he told everyone the truth that the subsidy had to go, because it is nobodies right to be subsidized.
gEJ is a many that is thoughtful, thinks long term and does not rush into decisions.

There is a world of difference between carrying out populist actions and slowly finding out actions that would provide a sustenance basis for the Nigerian entrepreneur to build the middle class.
In this regards GEJ has initiated 2 out of the four things required to build he middle class.
1- full speed deregulation of the power sector, I don't need to throw so much light on this.
2- full deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, this should enable a proliferation of refineries and petrol chemical plants across the length and breath of the country.

The other two might not be easily achievable due to the laziness and dependence of the SW and North of crude oil of the 9ja delta. The fear that these two will be initiated is the real reason for the opposition to the GEJ administration by the the SW and the core north, NE & NW.

3- implementation of true federalism where each component of the country wold contribute a portion of their internally generated wealth to he running of the FG, business and individuals pay taxes to lgas, LGA pay taxes to states, states pay taxes to FG.
This should kill the current unproductivity in this country.

4- remove government from the business of going into businesses at all levels, sports, education, oil industry, steel plants, health etc. concentrate governments on creating conducive environment for business to run profitably and safely through policy making and regulation.

Politics / Re: Farida Waziri Threatens To Expose Obasanjo. by DaLover(m): 2:45am On Sep 12, 2013
Sunny_bobo: Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Dr (Mrs) Farida Waziri,OFR has reminded former President Olusegun Obasanjo that ability to be used to witch hunt political enemies in the rabid pursuit of a third term agenda has never been part of the qualifications for appointment as chairman of the anti-graft agency.

Waziri stated this while reacting to publications on allegations made against her by the former president. Obasanjo had been quoted as saying that Waziri was not qualified to head the EFCC when she was appointed chairman of the Commission.

According to the statement personally signed by Waziri “My attention has been drawn to a number of allegations made against me by Mr Obasanjo. One of such was the alleged involvement of former Delta state governor, James Ibori in my appointment. While I hold the office of a Head of state, either serving or retired in the highest esteem, I will like to put on record for the umpteenth time that this is totally unfounded, blantant lie and arrant falsehood. It is therefore worrisome when a man who has been twice a Nigerian head of state can descend so low to peddle falsehood. The truth is that I never met Ibori in my life until after months in office as chairman of the EFCC when I used to see him in the presidential villa.

It is on record today that I initiated the investigation that drove Ibori into the waiting hands of Interpol and Metpolice. As such, it is illogical and nonsensical for anyone to continue to insinuate that Ibori has a hand in my appointment. I remember this was one of the lies Obasanjo’s sit-tight pawns cooked to stop my appointment as EFCC chairman in 2008.

“On the issue of qualifications raised by Obasanjo, the qualification for appointment as chairman of the Commission as stipulated in its Establishment Act says that the chairman shall ‘be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent; and possess not less than 15 years cognate experience’. Late President Yar’adua did not have to alter the Establishment Act when he was appointing me unlike what Obasanjo did.

“Again for the records, I served in the Nigeria Police force for 35 years and got to the pinnacle of my career before my appointment as EFCC chairman. If Obasanjo’s real age has not blurred his memory, I will like to remind him that I was a Commissioner of Police, Admin Force CID, CP General Investigations, CP Anti-fraud, CP X squad, CP Police Special Fraud Unit where I secured the first conviction in a case of Advance Fee Fraud in Nigerian history. These are all prime investigative organs of the Nigeria Police where I related with other law enforcement agencies including the FBI across the world. I must place on record that at SFU, I did not only relate with FBI, Interpol and Metpolice among others , we carried out joint operations at different times on a number of cases. I have also led the Nigerian delegation to the Interpol headquarters in France.

“To further expose the height of mischief in the allegations, the past and present chairmen of the EFCC have both worked under me, yet someone can open his mouth to say I am not qualified to head the same agency. This is in addition to my educational qualifications such as a first degree in Law, a Master degree in Law and another Master degree in Strategic studies. I doubt if Obasanjo himself can boast of this level of educational qualifications.

“I will also like to remind Obasanjo that no chairman of the EFCC has till date beaten my records in terms of investigation of high profile cases, prosecution, conviction and recovery.

“I will like to warn that those who live in glass house don’t throw stones and as such Obasanjo should not allow me open up on him. Respectable elder statesmen act and speak with decorum”

bloggernaija: Tens of million in the Niger delta?
I am having a laugh.
Once you remove edo (which is not really in the Niger delta),the rest of the Niger delta barely touches 10million.
Now to the main issue.
The Niger delta's situation is no different from the situation in the NW , NE and most of the NC.
Their thieving elites led by GEJ.
Why GEJ?
He removed a governor and replaced him with an even worse laggard;just like him and exactly in his own image.
OBJ wass not stupid.
He ensured that the ministry was held by a Niger deltan based on the recommendations of SS elites.
IBB did the same with OMPADEC.
That way, they cannot turn around and blame others.
The problem with this area is the lack of education;civic education.
Civic was one of the most important subject in the western region .
But you know how bad things are if a president ,from one of the richest and least populated states ,had to use federal money to build a clinic in his own village.
It is that bad.
Once you pass the borders of the NIGER DELTA Parts of old western region, enlightenment and sophistication ends and what you get is disorganisation and anarchy.

After all I have said on this forum, people like you still carry on as though the purpose of being educated is to show off to your neighbors.
Again, for the umpteen time, the purpose of education is to help you develop yourself and environment,
After all the oil money spent on educating folks from the SW, how has the acquired education rubbed off on the rest of nigeria, or even the SW.
Especially when one can't tell the difference between a town in Ogun state and one from Jigawa?
Especially when no manufacturing, industrial initiatives are coming of from the SW
Especially when all SW state are still heavily dependent of oil resources of the illiterate 9ja delta
Especially when all you can show as a mark of advancement is a city(lagos) which benefited immensely from being a federal capital.

With all your education, you have stooped low to collect from the uneducated, instead of leading a technological, industrial revolution that would start from the SW and gradually spread to the rest of the country, you sit down lazily, collect the headquarters of the oil companies, collect the jobs in the oil companies, collect monthly allocation for your states from the uneducated mans oil, collect the contracts in the oil companies, collect funding for the free education from his oil and then turn around to laf at him and call him an illiterate. When he starts demanding resource control, you launch a media blitz on how some people from his area have benefitted wrongly from he struggle, with the sole purpose of demoralizing those who seriously believe the way out for 9ja delta emancipation is resource control.

As someone who's people have benefited and are still benefiting from free oil allocations and if you genuinely love us, I expect you to use ur control of the media to assist in our desires for resource control, highlighting the positives we have achieved so far as a means of encouragement or else say thanks yo and step out of the way!
Politics / Re: Our Niger Delta: Betrayal As Fulfilment by DaLover(m): 12:36am On Sep 12, 2013
@OP,
It's clear u never understood the struggle, if you did, you wouldn't stop to allow the distractions coming from the SW media to interfere with your original desires.

To be clear on what we are fighting for, we are demanding resource control and not increased revenue to state governors.
these are two totally different things.

What has happened is increased revenue to state governors, settling of some boys and mis-direction/mis-information and propaganda by the SW media.

They are two distinct ways of life, that do not meet each other, when someone uses is hands to earn a living from the resources at his disposal and when we expect a govt, lga chairman to redistribute wealth that was given to from Abuja.

You had better know what you are fighting for else you will would continue to be easily deceived by those only interest is your God given resources but pretend to love you.

Gbawe: The part below is what every decent, aware and pragmatic Niger Deltan should confront instead of buying into the scam of those pretending to be fighting for the region yet only supervise the enrichment of themselves and their cronies. It is instructive that militants are buy private jets for $15 million while the region is going backwards under a "son of the soil" President and a Niger Delta Development Commission fully empowered, as never seen before, to bring change yet remains moribund and about corruption committed by Niger Deltans against Niger Deltans !!!!

Good Niger Deltans should make no mistake about the fact that they are in a struggle against their own leaders who happens to be their biggest enemy. What the Niger Delta has gone through is no excuse for letting Niger Deltan opportunists hijack issues from this point on to make things about themselves and their pocket. Especially deplorable, to cover there looting, is the fact that these opportunist have nothing to offer but a constant desire to point the finger of blame at other Nigerians while they are the main saboteurs of their own people. Niger Deltans must begin to hold their own leaders accountable instead of buying into their deception.

It's very obvious that the OP is a SWer masquerading as a fake 9ja deltan or a very ignorant 9ja deltan...
Ok pls give us some tips on how you have been able to tackle corrupt leaders like Tinubu in Lagos, we could use the same approach in 9ja Delta.
Politics / Re: Buhari Versus Buhari by DaLover(m): 12:03am On Sep 12, 2013
Adm. Yamamoto:
Nigerians still don't get it or are SIMPLY INSANE! How come they don't know that even if ALL THE RAINS IN THE WORLD fall into a BASKET, it will all be a WASTE? This is the problem of CORRUPTION! All the institutions that can fight and stamp out corruption, so that all the efforts of Nigerians and any economic progress is not wasted has been effectively killed. A GEJ that was once in EFCC net CAN NEVER fight corruption because he lacks the moral high ground! Can a GEJ look IBB or AbdulSalami or OBJ in the eye? Can he look Apabio in the eye or Uduaghan or Anenih?? It doesn't matter how many trains, rail tracks, ships, roads, trillions of dollars to fight BH or SURE-P, etc are spent or budgetted, it WILL ALL BE LOST sooner than later! Why? Corruption! The countries and systems that are progressing today have locked down corruption or fight it aggressively everyday! You know if you steal some money or behave in any abusive way towards your office, you will end up in prison, it's just a matter of time! You can run from US to Canada or Europe, they will eventually arrest you and deliver you back to the US anyway! This is why their progress is almost irreversible!

Nigeria made progress in 2003 - 2007, today we are back in debt, high unemployment, no power, no water, no security after TRILLIONS of naira in budget. Why? Waste by corruption! You can root for GEJ or your tribesman, he will get there steal you blind but you and your children will be the one suffering! Even if you partake of the stealing and contracts, what will happen to your brothers, cousins, nieces, etc? If you leave Nigeria, will not people in your family suffer hardship? Nigerians need to wake-up! Where I live, I can say honestly you don't need ANYONE to live financially, even with MINIMUM WAGE. Think about that! Now, there is no way an average Nigerian, educated like we do so much, work so hard, apply to all kinds of jobs, start a business will EVER have to live on MINIMUM WAGE! You and practically everyone in your family who get an education and work hard will have enough for themselves! Your children from 16 - 18 can in fact almost take care of their basic needs without your intervention! At 60 - 65, you are retired, have a decent pension that can take care of you if YOU decide NEVER to work again until you are kick the bucket. NOTE, this is just the average JOE, not millionaire, not politician just an engineer, doctor, scientist, artist, teacher, of which MOST working class Nigerians already are! Kill corruption, stamp it out!

Vote someone like Buhari who can stand on the moral high ground and say everyone in his government, cabinet must declare their assets! If you can't LEAVE my cabinet! No godfather or minister or secret GF to blackmail him. Nigeria needs to breed a new generation of honest leaders which will only happen by example. GEJ can never set such example because he is corrupt and a thief! This is the truth Nigerians!

For your information, Buhari served under Abacha, one of the most currupt persons to walk the face of the earth, he has never said a word against that family that looted millions from this country, he even associated with his son Mohamed Abacha.
this same Buhari is now hobnobbing with Tinubu, a chain Igbo smoker, who has used his position to illegally collect rent on the heads of lagosians.
This is the man who will fight corruption?

Joker, stop preventing to be oblivious of the real issues, where am I celebrating, why should I be focusing on the symptoms when the cause of the problem is clearly there for wise people to see?

Exactly how do you even expect the mass poor people in the 9ja delta to enjoy the monies? By govt sharing or by govt allowing the people to optimize the exploitation of their resources for their benefits

U r the one missing the point, while I am aware that few militants have made money from the 9ja delta struggle, my point is, the struggle must still continue.
My aim here is to point out the real intentions of those who keep bringing the rich militants to our attention,
For ignorant ones, it may seam they are trying to help the 9ja deltans, but in truth, their aim is to damping the moral of those who insist on fighting on.
Day in Day out we are subjected to a media blitz on how Tompolo had made money by these people, if these people claim to love the9ja deltans so much, then they can channel one tenth on their energies to a media blitz on resource control, stoping the laziness inducing payments called resource sharing.
You forget that it is the prevailed structure that allows few people to illegally enrich themselves at the expense of the majority, lets turn the structure around and put a structure in place to ensure that hardwork and ingenuity create wealth for people.

But we all from the ND should know that the poverty rate in this region is still very high, Atleast we use this opprtunity to assist ourselves and build this region quickly before power shifts rather some people who claim to be fighting the injustice are buying private jets. Where is the airport in Niger delta that he can lands or take off with it? And some of u are applauding him on it. Common sense isn't actually common.

if only u can appreciate the issue facing the country...there seams to be a deluded thinking that GOVT of this country has a bottomless pit of unending money..and the problem with spending it is corruption...

i take a very different view, i.e the govt has very limited resources and has to seriously priotise activities it can carry out. The limited resources contraint is further amplified by d fact that d country is running a systm that encourages laziness and corruption.
Very little will be achieved is such a system depending on central sharing instead of component productivity.

in a.different time or environment, i woildnt have minded the critisizm of tompolos jet, but when it is driven by selfish motive to have their hands on oil belonging to others. then we have to agree that there is more to such topics than meet the eye

bakynes: I want this country to split,Let's hold a referendum to that effect.Let each region go their seperate ways am tired of hearing its our Oyel money everytime. I am a Petroleum Engineer studied in the UK and I know Oil recession is coming soon in some countries in the next 50-100 yrs. Oil reserves will increase in other countries and the dependence of Oil is almost over. The west are doing everything to find alternatives to Oil and when that time comes I hope some pple won't cry out for help. I support the Emancipation of the Niger delta region, but of wat use is it if this same man who swore to fight for the freedom of his pple is nt giving back to Communities he swore to fight for. I do nt also support the Northerners owning most of the Oil blocs in the ND.But hold ur leaders responsible wen the oil recession begin, they fail to use the money for the good of their own pple bt to enrich themselves instead of the Land. SW will survive without your Oil who knows 2moro Oil reserves might increase in the SW. Split Nigeria

Start right now, let us benefit from ur education, remember oil money was used to provide free and subsidized education for the SW.
Just as it is impossible for a bully to continuously prosper from taking forcfully from others,
The Nigerian nation cannot prosper by forcefully denying the minorities of their resources.

Every war or battle will have people that will profit, this does not and should not distract from the original struggle, which is freedom to exploit your God oven resources.
If asking for resource control annoys you to the extent that u which to leave he union, no wahala.

T.D. Jakes just mentioned ( gave testimony ) how gas is found in a house ( property ), he bought just 60 days ago.

You know what, the guy ( Tompolo ) should be richer, if Nigeria has been practicing what advanced countries do, example is U.S.A.

They've been cheated for too long, if oil or gas is found in your land ( property ), it naturally ( rightfully ) belong to you. You receive ( get ) what is due for you directly from the oil companies.

You've to understand the origin of something first, are they SS / SE being cheated or not?

We've got stuffs flowing in our ( family) lands in Abia, until things are managed the way it should be, it remains untouchable.

cool

.

Really Tompolo may actually have been richer if he found oil in his land, collaborated with technical pathners to exploit it and paid taxes o government! But selfish and our greedy most educated people will not accept this!

Mcjoke: It amazes me how some people here are shouting it's our money, it's our soil instead of calling a spade a spade. Do you people want to end up like northrz where their kinsmen steal, steal and steal without developing their region. I think we should all think like civilized people at this stage of our existence for once.

Under the current structure, people such as Tompolo will continue to rise, what we are shouting is that there should be resource control, everybody will sit up or die suffering

The truth is, Tompolo may or may not have made his money in the best way possible, like Jesus once said, let him without sin cast he first stone.
Looking across the terrain of the country, I can beat my chest to say that 98% of billionaires in this country can attribute their wealth to oil from the 9ja delta...and majority of them are because they were close affiliates to the military boys who controlled power through the gun...

So to a newbie to this topic or someone ignorant of the real issues, why is there so much emphasis on the ND militants who have made money?
The fear of the 9ja deltan insisting on the resource control fight and the over dependence on oil by the SW and the Core north,
The SW press have realized that by constantly focusing attention on the rich militants, the propaganda will be strong enuf to destroy the desire of the average 9ja deltan to fight for true resource control, the strategy is simple, play up the negative aspects of the struggle in the media and play down any positives...

I saw somewhere that if you keep telling a big lie long enuf, it seams to become true, even to the person or people being lied against.

Like I have always said, and keep saying, education is a means to an end, the end being a developed society, it isn't Enuf to laf at the 9ja deltans that they are not educated, it would also be nice for this country to begin to benefit from the much touted well educated resources of the SW. If put to proper use, can generate much more money that oil, which is presently driving the media in the SW crazy with tompolos money.
fact: Israel with no oil or natural resource and a population of 6mllion people, generates about $100b in revenues, same as nigeria with a population of 150 million.
The population of the SW maybe at least 35million can definitely do better than over reliance on 9ja delta oil, and who and who in the 9ja delta is buing planes or not.

jp philips:

do you ask yourself some pertinent questions? India with the biggest refining capacity of 1.2mbbls/d imports 79% of their crude just as you are advising dangote,
the resultant effect is that one liter of petrol in Mumbai with the biggest refining capacity in the world is selling for Rs81.57 equivalent of 203.78naira.
is that what you wish for Nigeria? the problem is not your refining capacity but the source of your oil, if you import your crude, you need to subsidize it to make it affordable because it doesnt come cheap in the open market, which will increase government spending and will result to inflation and budget deficit,
if you deregulate, your economy will be in trouble cos of inflation and high cost of living.

this argument has been won and lost severally on nairaland here all you need do is a little research and you will understand where i am coming from.

lastly, as soon as oil prices on the international scene soars, India runs into shortages and the refineries go on leave, as we speak, portharcourt refinery is on leave for the past 2 months, reason, "CRUDE SHORTAGE".

Orient is going to be the next big thing in the downstream sector because chief Emeka Anyaoku has already applied this theory of mine.

Again, I would like to apply mathematics to this argument, if u don't mind.
I am a business man with reserves of oil,
Again, figure are just for example

1-profit per barrel from directly selling raw from my fields= $75
2-profit from refining oil bought from the internal market = $2

It there for follows that as a business man, the profit from refining crude from my field must be at least $77, else I would be doing charity.

Again, feel free to advise where, could have overlooked certain facts.
I really want to understand you

I have educated you severally on this same issue but it seems you made a pact with ignorance, i will not even try this time, we know what dangote is doing.
you mentioned orient, don't you know that Orient's source of oil is OPL915 and 916? it is senseless to set up a refinery business in Nigeria without a source of oil, the JV oil cant support that, so the right question is; where is dangote getting his oil from?
Jonathan may have secretly allocated him an oil block and that is what he is thanking him for ala the favorable policies he mentioned in the article.
you look at the oil industry from the surface but your knowledge is too limited to see how things work in the industry.

your post in bold speaks volume of the height of your ignorance, as we speak, DPK and AGO has been deregulated, do you think the marketers and importers viz a viz Nupeng are complaining? are they striking? you know why? because they are making serious money at the detriment of your pocket.

that DPK you buy 150naira a litre has about 60% profit margin for both the importer and the marketer so they have absolutely nothing to lose,
talking about Govt payment, i laugh seriously at you, even the Aquilla that the Govt is paying as subsidy for transportation, not even all of them have the time to go through the rigorous process to collect it, if the importer sells a loaded product for you, he will charge you for the truck aquilla or not, the end user is the one suffering.

If orient comes upstream, the same importers will celebrate, all they need to do is to register as major distributors end of story, they have nothing to lose, they will save a lot of money on import charges and haulage fees, they will buy cheap from orient and cut your throat at the pump because you have removed the only Govt influence that keep them on their toes via deregulation.

let me make it clear for the umpteenth time, subsidy or not, importers are chopping seriously, if you deregulate, they chop more while you pay more.

I have read a lot of your oil and gas arguments and i tell you what, you are the most delusional person i know who make comments here, you are better off in the romance section.

Ol boy, wetin be ur own self?
I am honestly not understanding ur very smart logic..let break it down mathematically
Lets use assumed figures
1-cost of producing a barrel of crude=$25
2-international cost of a barrel of crude=$100
3-cost of transporting a barrel of crude to Europe for instance=$2
4-cost of transporting a barrel of crude locally=$1
5-cost of refining a barrel of crude=$5

For the importer without subsidy payment, plus import duties, plus punitive protection tax, we have
$100+(2x$2)+$1+$5 or $110
Hence the landing cost for an importer on a barrel of oil equivalent would be $110, this could go up much further if he government decides to apply protection tax for local refineries and import duties

For the local refiner/producer, his cost should be
$100+$1+$5 or $106,

Hence the local producers output of crude should be cheaper,

Please kindly add other factors that I missed, so I can understand you properly.

Sloan: No one took them there...if they did not learn about what the Sahara is like before embarking on their journey, did not learn about their destination, if they spoke the native language of their destinations, THEN they deserve NO PITY! This pictures should be printed and posted in the Nigerian dailies so that whoever they are (ibos MOST definitely) can realize that if their love of money can drive them to such horrific deaths, NORMAL hardworking people can watch them die and FEEL NOTHING! I will feel more pity for a hapless ibo who was mistakenly arrested and killed by Nigeria's useless police than any of these guys who decided to cross the Sahara ON FOOT! Maybe they think claiming to be Jews will make God grant them the kind of leeway he did to the Israelites? They leave their own land Iboland, their family, after learning only that they must be rich at all cost, to die like chickens burned to death in the heat of the desert!?? Serves them right!
There are many Yorubas in London , cleaning the streets, toilets, drivers etc...I wonder what took them there?

ghananotnaija: I just wonder how did Dangote manage to win over the fuel importation cartel? Knowing Nigerians, I suspect he is just using this as a ploy to loot Nigeria even further.

If Nigeria really wants to stop import petro, then they should turnover the oil operations to Ghanaian firms.

My guess is that Dangote is already positioning himself for the full deregulation of the petroleum downstream sector, which must happen any way, when that happens,
Petroleum product importers will not be entitled to any payments from government, they will have to compete against the likes of Dangote and orient refineries, and probably the existing refineries which would have been privatized.

On the long run, it should be better to refine locally, ultimately the main goal should be movement away from exporting raw crude...just imagin 10 such refineries operating in the country, the possibilities, fresh air man, fresh air....
Add the liberalization of the power sector, the opportunities become limitless, ...scented fresh air indeed

taharqa: But seriously, away from d roforofo fights and side talks, this is a reali HUGE deal in deed. This should be, by far, d LARGEST Investment ever made in this nation history (outside d Oil Sector)- over $9billion; and, that it is actuali been made by an Indigenious Nigerian Cop and its finance/capital outlay overseen by a Cotorie of Banks led by Nigerian Banks, is an Outstanding testament to how far we as individuals Nigerians and Nigerian have come, and perhaps more importantly, how much farther we can go. This should be such a source of pride for EVERY Nigerian, regardless of our present persuasions. Of course, it is more exciting that this is happening in d Refining, Petrochemical and Fertilizer Sectors.... Great stuff

Yes oo, speaks volumes about the govt of the day, but is I really outside the oil sector
