Maria-Goretti:
erm, brother o, hmmm, your siggy ended with my name. abeg translate inugo?

Goodmorning
o yes.

Totus Tuus was Pope John Paul II's apostolic motto. It is a Latin phrase meaning "totally yours" and expressed his personal Consecration to Mary based on the spiritual approach of Saint Louis de Montfort and the Mariology in his works. The pontiff explained the meaning further in his book Crossing the Threshold of Hope where he defines it as not only an expression of piety but also of devotion that is deeply rooted in the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity. According to his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae he borrowed the motto from the Marian consecrating prayer found in the book True Devotion to Mary by Saint Louis de Montfort. The complete text of the prayer in Latin is:

"Totus tuus ego sum, et omnia mea tua sunt. Accipio te in mea omnia. Praebe mihi cor tuum, Maria."

Translation

"I belong entirely to you, and all that I have is yours. I take you for my all. O Mary, give me your heart"

Pope John Paul II once recalled how as a young seminarian he "read and re-read many times and with great spiritual profit" some writings of Saint Louis de Montfort and that:
"Then I understood that I could not exclude the Lord's Mother from my life without neglecting the will of God-Trinity"

The prayer appeals very much to me, Thats why i put it there as my signature. I'm "Mary freak", she's my spiritual obsession. smiley

damerry: Even the Protestant Reformers, such as Martin Luther venerated Mary. Rather, it has only been within the last few hundred years, that people have become afraid to honour Mary.

@ Acidosis here is a question

How can Christians have been so wrong, for well over a thousand years and onward in venerating Maryhuh
where art Acidosis? We've got unfinished business.

Christianity EtcRe: Should None Catholics Celebrate Christ-mass??? by damerry(m): 1:18am On Dec 20, 2013
fijiano202: Thanks for the Epistle but i have a question,How did Rome become Catholic headquater and also Why is Isreal or Jordan not recognised by Catholics cos Jesus was born in bethelehem and Jesus Crusade started from Jerusalem, how did rome become Catholic stronghold
Hi buddy, Rome became a headquarters for many reasons that was imperative for the spread of Christianity. Here is few reasons.

1) All roads lead to Rome. (at one time, all roads in the Roman empire leads to Rome)

2) Without the Roman Empire, its infrastructures, roads, Pax Romana, protection as well as a universal language, Koine Greek, Christianity would not have spread as easily.

And most importantly because;

3. St. Peter was appointed by Jesus to be the leader of the disciples and shortly after the Church was formed in 33 AD he moved his bishopric to Rome after establishing the Church of Antioch. This was long before the fall of Rome by many centuries. Most Romans were eventually converted to Christianity
Christianity EtcRe: Should None Catholics Celebrate Christ-mass??? by damerry(m):
@ op. Whether you like it or not, the catholic church is the centre of happenings and events in Christendom. Catholicsim even stares at you in the face when you read your Bible (catholic invention).

Whether you celebrate Christ-mass or not, you partake in other numerous catholic inventions knowingly or unknowingly.

CERTAIN FACTS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH:

1. The Catholic Church gave us the Gregorian calendar which we all use today.

2. The Catholic Church gave us the date for Easter.

3. The Catholic Church gave us the date for Christmas which means Christ-Mass.

The remains of all of the Apostles are in Catholic Churches, and so are all of the Gospel writers. Note! Some relics are divided between Catholic Churches:

St. Peter is in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

St. Paul is in St. Paul's Church in Rome.

St. Matthew is in the Cathedral of St. Matthew in Messina, Sicily.

St. James the Greater is in St. James Church in Compostela Spain.

St. James the Less (the Just) is in the Basilica of the Holy Apostles in Rome.

St. Bartholomew is in St. Bartholomew-in-the-island Church in Rome.

St. Andrew is in the Cathedral of Amalfi in Italy.

St. Philip is in the Church of the Dodici Apostoli in Rome, Basilica of the Holy Apostles.

St. Simon is in the Vatican, under the Altar of the Crucifixion.

St. Jude is in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

St. Thomas is in the Cathedral of Saint Thomas in Mylapore, India.

St. Matthias is in St. Matthews Abbey in Trier Germany, and in St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome.

St. John is in the ruins of the Basilica of St. John in Ephesus Turkey.

"You are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets with Jesus Christ Himself as the Chief Corner Stone." Ephesians 2:20.

Even though he was not an Apostle, he did write the Gospel of Mark. St. Mark is in St. Mark's Church in Venice, Italy.

Even though he was not an Apostle, he did write the Gospel of Luke. St. Luke is in the Basilica of Santa Giustina in Padua, Italy.

The first Christian Martyr. Acts 7:60 St. Stephen is in Rome in the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls.

The first person to arrive at the tomb of the Risen Christ. John 20:1 St. Mary Magdalene is in the Basilica of St. Maximin in Villalata, France.

He produced the first Bible containing both the Old and New Testaments, the Latin Vulgate. St. Jerome is in St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome.

We know from the many authentic Relics that the Catholic Church has a lot in its possession. Among them are:

1. The Relic of the True Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. John 19:17-18

2. The "INRI" inscription from the True Cross, called "Titulus Crucis". John 19-19

3. The Nails which held Jesus to the cross. John 20:25

4. The Lance Point of Saint Longinus which pierced the side of Jesus. John 19:34

5. The Crown of Thorns and the individual thorns from it. John 19:2

6. The Table used at the Last Supper is in St. John Lateran Basilica in Rome. Matthew 26:20

7. The Scala Santa, the steps which Jesus Christ ascended on His way to meet Pontius Pilate.

8. The Chains of Saint Peter, in the Church of St. Peter in Chains in Rome. And Many more...

We know from its sheer Size and Rapid Growth, with over 1,057,000,000* (one billion, fifty-seven million) members, or one in six of the entire population of the earth, as of February 2000. That is an increase of over 40,000,000 (forty million), since December 1997, more than half of the total membership of the largest single non-Catholic denomination. In 2001, the Catholic Church grew to over 1,070,540,000* members, plus another 216,000,000* Orthodox. Bar none, the Catholic Church is the fastest growing Christian Church in the world. All of the over 36,400 various Non-Catholic denominations, collectively added, total less than the Catholic membership. For those detractors of the Catholic Church who say that numbers are irrelevant, they are in effect, saying that Satan is winning souls and that GOD is losing souls. They are saying that more people are convinced by the lie from the father of lies, John 8:44, than they are convinced of the truth of GOD, John 14:6. They have forgotten, or maybe they never knew, that Satan can only do what GOD allows him to do.

nwajoshua: . I don't believe u about Martin luther venerating mary
He sure did. Evidence remains deep rooted in Lutheran churches, they have partial devotions to Mary and venerate few of her images

but even if he still do dat for some years because he was born into it annd grew up as a monk ie if u knw d history...It was wen he sttarted reading d bible dat he dropped many things. The day he took offence was d day he oppened d Bible as he was not authorized too do and saw were it is written that the Just shall live by faith but in catholic d just lives by looking, honouring and praying to Idolswhich is an opposite of faith.
No catholic prays/honour Idols. We don't pray to the image because it's a great sin. We only pray to whom the image venerates

Thanks.

grin

we Don't force people to accept Marian devotion, we only set out to counter heresies from people like you. Nobody is forced to embrace faith against his own will. The act of faith is of its very nature a free act

This same Fatima Mary is the reason why we have many converts embracing Catholicism. These converts did not receive "hardcore Marian evangelism" but were convinced without doubts of the powers of a Loving mother when they came in contact with images, medals, rosaries and books.

Christianity EtcRe: 15 Promises Of "Our Lady" To Christians Who Recite The Rosary by damerry(m):
Acidosis: ^ ^ don't tell me you're ignorant of the fact that God condemned praying in other names other than Jesus christ,
Here we go again, how many times do we have to tell u that Asking Mary and the saints to pray for us does not negates Christ role as the sole mediator just as asking your pastor to pray for you does not also negates Christ role as the sole mediator?

carving images and praying to the dead?
Images and its likes makes us understand better the mysteries and virtues of who it venerates. It gives our devotion substance and helps to mortify our senses. You would agree with me that a large cross with the crucified Christ on it explains more to it's viewer than reading the bible, if an illiterate who does not know how to read the bible enters a catholic church, images like that of the crucified Christ and the stations of the cross helps him to meditate on the mysteries of his salvation and have a better knowledge of them.

The Israelites of old where credulous and often fell into sin by making images of gods which made them stray away from the path of God's light.

But the images we venerate draws one closer to God, it makes you appreciate God in the life of his saints (if the image venerates a saint) and encourage you to keep striving for perfection as the saint who was human like us did.

some protestant churches now venerate the image of the sacred heart of Jesus. ( i don't know if they have a devotion to his sacred heart) Very soon, they might possibly place that of the immaculate heart of Mary beside His to fulfil all righteousness.

Concerning praying to the dead;

They may be literally dead to this world but Death itself does not separate Christians.
Christianity EtcRe: 15 Promises Of "Our Lady" To Christians Who Recite The Rosary by damerry(m):
Acidosis: That, I will never agree, but ofcourse, you are free to claim anything.

If Catholicism lay much emphasis on Mary to the extent of rendering 53 prayers to her and 6 to God.. AND the Apostles you claim to follow never mentioned her name according to the Bible, THEN something is wrong somewhere...

We do not accept the same teaching..

My own "glory is to God" (and the trinity)

and my "Honour is to Everyone" including my father and my mother.. the same honour is also applicable to you my brother.
Has anyone noticed that Acidosis refused to quote my post on Apostolic succession which proves beyond all doubts that catholicism teaches the true message of Christ and the apostles? Well here it is...

damerry: We can boast of/prove apostolic succession. What the apostles received from Jesus Christ himself, they passed unto the next generation and appointed bishops as their successors and gave them "their own position of Teaching authority" the unbreakable line of succession continues to this day till the end of time.
Through this tradition, "the church, in her doctrine, life and worship, perpetuates and transmits to every generation all that she herself is, all that she believes"
The sayings of the holy Fathers are a witness to the life giving presence of this tradition, showing how riches are poured out in the practise and life of the church, in her belief and her prayer.
Acidosis asked a question, i gave an obvious flawless answer, instead of dealing directly with Apostolic succession he decides to ignore quietly and digress to his never-ending rants on catholicism, on of which he said;

Acidosis: the Apostles you claim to follow never mentioned her name according to the Bible, THEN something is wrong somewhere...
And where in the bible did they condemn devotions to our blessed motherhuh
Bible citation needed.

How funny. grin
protestant refer to the bible in this format when they are clueless

where was it written in the bible....

Acidosis: Oh.. Thanks, bro..

Now you're one of the few deeply rooted Catholics I've met..

Now do you agree Catholicism is an entirely different religion from message of Jesus Christ and the Apostles?
NO. I DON'T Agree.

Catholicism teaches the TRUE message of Jesus and the Apostles.

We can boast of/prove apostolic succession. What the apostles received from Jesus Christ himself, they passed unto the next generation and appointed bishops as their successors and gave them "their own position of Teaching authority" the unbreakable line of succession continues to this day till the end of time.
