A 28-year-old maidservant accused of stealing a huge sum of money from her male employer stunned court attendees, when she claimed she had been paid for her nonpareil sexual services, and that she did not steal the money.

Ruth Khaecha, who worked as a house-help for Nairobi businessman Paul Kanyi Mwangi, said the tycoon put Ksh800, 000 on her breasts after she offered him unrivalled intimacy on January 15 this year.

The sexual intercourse, she said, happened at Kanyi’s home in Balozi Estate, Muthaiga North in Nairobi.

Khaecha was arrested and charged with stealing Kanyi’s money.

The court heard that after making away with the cash, the suspect travelled to her father’s home in Kakamega. The accused allegedly used the money to buy a parcel of land in Kakamega.

She also used the money to acquire two motorcycles and a solar panel, which she gifted her father, Solomon Bwoya.

Denying the theft charge, Khaecha told the court that Kanyi enjoyed her sexual services and found it necessary to reward her with Ksh800, 000.

Some Catholic bishops on Saturday, October 26, approved a proposal that allows married men to receive ordination as priest in the Amazon region.
According to reports by CNN, the proposal must be approved by Pope Francis before it could stand.

The new order according to the same media, is set to be a big and significant change to the church’s agelong traditions where only unmarried men are ordained as priests.

The Amazon region covers areas such as some parts of Peru, Suriname, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Columbia, French Guiana.

The proposal has tagged viri probati which refers to older Catholic men who have stable families, are respected in their communities, and already deacons in their respective churches.

Note also that the new policy is not the same thing as allowing men who are already priests to marry.

The Pope’s approval must be given before the new policy takes effect, a thing the head of the Catholic church said he hopes to give response to before the end of 2019.

Also worthy of note was an earlier comment made by the Pope where he said the he is looking at the possibility of allowing married men to receive ordination.

With what is currently the norm in the church, converts from Anglicanism can become Catholic priest even if they are already married.

The move to ordain married men was on the core issues that got voted for at the just concluded three-week meeting at the Vatican which discussed environmental and religious matters affecting the Amazon area.

Another proposal at the also considers the need to consider ordaining women as deacons.

A 27-year-old Tanzanian police officer has been arrested after he allegedly killed his girlfriend for “refusing to marry him”.

James Paulo who works with the anti-graft unit in Tanzania allegedly fired three bullets into the head of his lover, Beatha Kafuru, killing her on the spot.

The incident took place at the suspect’s home in Tunduru, Ruvuma.

Authorities told Tanzanian news outlets that Paulo killed his girlfriend after she refused to marry him despite the suspect financing her college education.

Kafuru completed her diploma in nursing course recently.

Paulo told police that he had planned to marry Kafuru, whom he shares a child with, once she was out of school.

A 63-year-old man, Oluwatubosun Dahunsi, yesterday told Magistrates’ Court sitting in Owo, Ondo State, that he butchered his wife, Funmilayo Dahunsi to death thinking she was killing a goat.

In his word he said, Funmilayo (38) cried for help “but at that point, her cry sounded like that of a goat”.

Oluwatubosun allegedly used a machete to hack Funmilayo to death on October 5, 2019 in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Area of Ondo State.

The charge sheet reads: “That you, Dahunsi Oluwatubosun, ‘m’ on October 5, 2019, about 6.30a.m., at Ita-Ipele Camp via Owo in the Ondo Magisterial District, unlawfully (attacked with a machete) your wife, Funmilayo Dahunsi ‘f’ on her two hands, head, stomach, neck and her jaw with to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”

The defendant, who is facing a one-count charge of murder, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Suleiman Abdulateef, told the court that he had filed an application for the remand of the defendant in prison pending the advice from the office of the Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP).

19-years-old undergraduate of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, on Monday narrated to a Lagos State Special Offences Court how a suspected cultist by name Tayo Bakare, allegedly robbed and brutally raped her.

Bakare is standing trial on eight counts bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, deprivation of liberty and rape.
The 19-year-old victim alleged that Bakare, on August 27, 2017, in the Ikotun area of Lagos, ordered her to remove her clothes, took her nude pictures with her phone and had forceful sexual intercourse with her.

The 300-level student, while being led in evidence by the prosecutor K. A. Momoh-Ayokambi, stated that 24-year-old Bakare pretended as a family friend and lured her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her, adding that the defendant threatened to kill her.

She said, “I don’t know the defendant before the incident and prior to that day, I had planned hanging out with a family friend, one Miss Faith. But I had no idea that her phone had been stolen and that the person, who stole the phone, was the one chatting with me on WhatsApp.

“So, we fixed a date and place to meet. I came to Oshodi to meet her but it was the defendant I met holding Faith’s phone. And he said Faith asked him to come and pick me and I followed him and he took me to a hotel in Ikotun.

“He said my friend was inside the room and we went inside. When we got in, I sat on the bed and he then told me that everything was a setup; that my friend set me up for him.

“He thereafter locked the door and told me that he was a cultist and a member of the Badoo group in Lagos. He then ordered me to bring out all the items in my bag and placed them on the bed. I hurriedly obeyed. He asked me to give him money and I begged him not to harm me but to allow me call someone to transfer money to me to give him. I had my two ATM cards and N2,000 cash with me.

“He began threatening to kill me if I didn’t give him money. He, thereafter, ordered me to take off my clothes and face the wall. He also ordered me to unlock my phone, which I did, and he took nude pictures of me. And right after, he sexually abused me.
