Politics / Re: I Don't Know The Technology Used In Making Of Ganduje Bribery Videos - Buhari by Danma(m): 10:40am On Jan 17, 2019
WHO CAN HELP ME REMIND BUHARI THAT HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA?

If I say I am not crushingly disappointed in PMB’s response to the Gandollar videos, I would be lying to you.

1. For Allah’s sake, you are the PRESIDENT of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A bribery scandal (one of your three campaign mantras) has been made against a sitting Governor. You don’t “know the extent of the technology used” in those clips and can’t understand it, and you did not directed any of the security and anti-corruption agencies under you to investigate as a matter of urgency and report back to you? Deep sigh, are waiting for ordinary Nigerians, the opposition party or another country to probe the videos and report to you? Haba Mr. President!

2. The idea that the President is rely on the Kano State Assembly and the court to provide him with the answers he needs is ridiculously preposterous in my opinion. Using his personal experience of litigating election matters up to the Supreme Court, GMB has repeatedly shown his dissatisfaction with our courts’ motive and performance. He has also complained severally that the judiciary is giving him headache in his fight against corruption. Then why does he trust the judiciary in this matter? If PMB did not trust the National Assembly on the Electoral Act, their opinion on Mr. Ibrahim Magu and on the budget, why does he trust the Kano State Assembly on this issue? Besides, is the case (s) he is talking about going on? Is the investigation he is referring to ongoing? How can answers be provided before he goes to Kano when nothing has been done and nothing is being done to ascertain the authenticity of the clips?

3. Anyway, the President has at the end of his answer revealed his true intentions; he wanted something to hide behind; he wanted “some relief” from his inaction on the Gandollar videos so he is using a moribund investigation and a suit initiated in bad faith as smokescreen for his inaction. How convenient!

I just can’t hide my feelings on this issue. It troubles me that it is becoming clearer that our political leaders are only paying lip service to the fight against corruption which is the main cancer killing our country. It is also clear as crystal that ordinary Nigerians are, for one reason or the other, unable to hold politicians to account.

When Buhari was declared winner of the 2015 elections, an unprecedented dosage of hope was injected into me. I had an indescribable breath of fresh produced by my hope that he would turn our country around. Four years on, I virtually despair again for Nigeria as I did before his election. The only difference is that I didn’t trust past leaders the way I trusted Buhari and that’s the reason for my despair today. Going into 2019, the only options are Buhari and Atiku. The former is clearly naive incompetent as the latter is not trustworthy. Nigerians are between a rock and a hard place. Ya Rabbi sallim! Ya Rabbi sallim! Ya Rabbi sallim!

Family and friends of a Nigerian lady, Jane Iyke, pictured above, are currently making frantic efforts to reach her after she left a disturbing note on her IG page this morning.

In a post shared on Instagram, Jane asked everyone to take care of her children, a set of triplets plus one other, if she's no more. She wrote;

''If I am no more, please reach out to my innocent triplets+1, they are unlucky to arrive in an evil family''.

According to her friends, her phone has been turned off and she is nowhere to be found. One of her friends said her nanny said Jane travelled this morning. Actress Toyin Abraham has also tried reaching out to her.

There are speculations that Jane's husband got her angry after he bought his girlfriend a car recently.
Hopefully she is found safe and sound.

Politics / Ganduje To Be Jail For 170 Year, Payment Of 30 Million Dollars by Danma(m): 9:40am On Nov 03, 2018
GANDUJE RISKS OVER 170 YEARS IMPRISONMENT, PAYMENT OF 30 MILLION DOLLARS IF FOUND GUILTY
As we continue to watch videos claiming to show Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State receiving bribe totaling to $5 million, I briefly highlight here the offenses that might have been committed by the embattled governor and the sentences he may faced if found guilty.
Ganduje can be charged under several laws including the Penal Code Laws of Kano State, the EFCC Act and the ICPC Act. Each of these laws codify different, albeit similar, offenses and prescribe different punishments. I will only take the ICPC Act here.
If Ganduje is investigated, charged and ultimately convicted under ICPC Act, he risks being jailed for up to 170 years. He may also pay at least 30 million dollars as compensation and fine. Let me break this down.
First, if the allegations are proved, Ganduje has committed the offence of Asking Bribe under Section 8 of the ICPC Act and may, upon conviction, be imprisoned for a period of 7 years. This is because the man who shot the video told Daily Nigerian that Ganduje demanded him and others to pay the sum alleged as his "kickbacks" for the contracts he awarded them.
Secondly, apart from asking bribe, Receiving Bribe is a distinct offence under section 8 of the ICPC Act. If, as shown in the video, Ganduje was receiving bribe, he would be punished, if found guilty, with another 7 years in prison.
Thirdly, from the videos and the published allegations, Ganduje could be charged for the offense of Official Gratification. If found guilty, he might be sent to 5 years in prison without option of fine under section 19 of the ICPC Act.
Fourthly, Ganduje could be charged for the offense of “Bribery for giving assistance in regard to contract” under section 22 of the ICPC Act, upon conviction, he may be jailed for a period of 7 years.
Fifthly, Daily Nigerian claimed that it has at least 9 different videos in which Ganduje was shown receiving bribe. If shot on different occasions, each of these videos constitute a separate and distinct charge carrying a separate and distinct punishment in law. Thus, he could be charged for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th offences 9 different times and be found guilty and sentenced 9 times. If found guilty he would punished with imprison of 7 x 9 (for the 2nd offence) + 5 x 9 (for the 3rd offence) + 7 x 9 (for the 4th offence) which is equal to 171 years.
Finally, Section 20 of the ICPC Act provides that “Without prejudice to any sentence of imprisonment imposed under this Act, a public officer or other person found guilty of soliciting, offering or receiving gratification shall forfeit the gratification and pay a fine of not less than five times the sum of the value of the
gratification which is the subject-matter of the offence where such gratification is capable of being valued or is of a pecuniary nature, or ten thousand naira, whichever is higher.”
This means, upon conviction, Ganduje could be ordered to refund the 5 million dollars he allegedly received as compensation and be made to pay not less than 5 times the value of the total of the received gratification. That’s 5 million dollars multiplied by 5 which is 25 million dollars.

Politics / The Garage Of The Second Nigerian Senate President. You Will Be Shocked. by Danma(m): 9:27am On Oct 31, 2018
WHAT A LIFE WE LIVE
According to Wikipedia This is the garage of the Second Nigerian Senate President Prince Nweke Nwafor from 1960 to 1966. I vividly Recall the story of a man who became popular for engaging in money rituals just to buy the 80's edition of the Honda Prelude. You wouldn't buy that car for 50k today. Some other guy brutally murdered his brother ( whom their father gave cash 2 travel 4 the purpose of re- stocking their warehouse), just cos he wanted to acquire the rave of the moment - Pathfinder Jeep. That same vehicle is now better described as a coffin. I Remember as a kid, my whole street gathered to watch a truck deliver a very large satellite dish to my neighbour's house. Today a dish one tenth that size delivers 5 times the value and is in almost every student's room. What about the Volkswagen Santana, Mercedes Benz V boot, 505Evolution, Toyota Crown, all overtaken by latest models of Camry, Honda, Bugatti, Bentley, X6, Acura and Infinity... Vanity! Some ladies left their true loves cos some rich guy then persuaded them with a Benz 190, which turned out to be the only car they ever owned till date. They found out too late that true love is invaluable. A friend declared drinks because he launched the Nokia Communicator for over hundred grand in 2002. Today that phone would embarrass the owner and is a joke compared to the low cost and everyday phones. What about the MTN SIM card that many people went extra miles before they bought for over 30k, today you will not buy it at N100 because all networks are begging people to even take it for free. People are still making the most horrific sacrifices over 'vanity' and make enemies over worthless material things. What can I say? Look back at that one thing you want to kill or die for today and see what becomes of it tomorrow. There is absolutely nothing you can't achieve. All you need is a little time and PATIENCE and you would thank God without regrets. There is actually nothing in this world that is worth dying for, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Business / 60million Barrels Of Crude Oil Stolen From Nigeria - Falana by Danma(m): 11:35am On Oct 19, 2018
- Chief Femi Falana (SAN) has said about 60.2 million barrels of crude oil were stolen from Nigeria between 2011 and 2014
- The human rights lawyer said the stolen product passed through the Philadelphia Port in the United States of America
- He made the comment at the 40th anniversary of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN)
Human rights lawyer, Chief Femi Falana (SAN) on Thursday, October 18, said about 60.2 million barrels of crude oil were stolen from Nigeria between 2011 and 2014.
Falana made the statement at the 40th anniversary of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
He noted that the stolen product passed through the Philadelphia Port in the United States of America.
His words: “The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) commissioned a study about seven years ago concerning millions of barrels of crude oil that leave Nigeria unaccounted for.
“The study found that between January 2011 and December 2014, 60.2 million barrels of crude oil left Nigeria that were not recorded, but were recorded to have been discharged at the Philadelphian Port in the U.S.
“It revealed that the value of the stolen oil amounted to $12.7 billion. That was oil discharged in just one port. We have identified the oil majors that were involved and we have also identified the shipping company.
“But since 2014, we have been begging the Federal Government to recover the money and nothing has been done. The money lost in U.S, India, China and other ports where our oil is discharged exceeds $100 billion.
“We wrote a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that while they are busy recovering small money from politicians, this is the real money available to Nigeria, but unfortunately, no action has been taken.”
While urging the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the labour movement to lead the battle for recovering outstanding crude oil proceeds, Falana said Nigeria is also losing huge revenues due to the non-implementation of Offshore and Inland Sharing Formula Act enacted in 1999 but was backdated to 1993.
Falana had earlier revealed that not less than $12.7bn crude oil was siphoned from the nation's treasury within a period of three years through illegal oil sales.
He also charged PENGASSAN to cooperate with the anti-graft agencies in the country for the recovery of the siphoned funds.

Nairaland / General / New Minimum Wage: Labor To Take Final Decision Tomorrow by Danma(m): 9:13pm On Oct 17, 2018
New minimum wage:
Labour to take final decision Thursday Published on October 17, 2018 By Ifreke Inyang

The Organised Labour has said it will meet on Thursday, to take a final decision on the new national minimum wage for workers.

This follows the delay by the Federal Government to announce its figure.

Ayuba Wabba, President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), made this known in an interview with NAN on Wednesday in Abuja.

Recall that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, had said there was no agreement yet by the Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage figure in the country.

Wabba said that the struggle for a new minimum wage for workers was on course, saying that labour was proposing N30,000 as requested by the organised private sector.

“So, we as organised labour will be meeting tomorrow (Thursday) in Lagos after which we will brief newsmen on the outcome of our decision,” he added.

Sports / Neymar Wants Barca Return As His PSG Status Is Under Threat By Mbappe (MD) by Danma(m): 1:45pm On Oct 17, 2018
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar still wants to move back to Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo. Real Madrid are also interested in him, but his heart lies with Barca.
Having moved to France for a world-record fee little over a year ago, the Brazil star misses life at Camp Nou, having been eclipsed in Paris by Kylian Mbappe.
According to reports in Spain, the 26-year-old is now growing increasingly keen to secure a move back to the Nou Camp at the end of this season.
Titles AS and Mundo Deportivo suggest the forward misses life in Barcelona and is desperate to get back to the city.
They say he is becoming frustrated with the lack of competitiveness on the French league - something that could easily have been predicted from the outset.
One of the major reasons why he opted to leave Barca in the first place was the fact Lionel Messi was the main man at the club with everyone else playing second fiddle.
It was hoped his move to PSG would allow him to flourish and finally challenge Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d'Or.
But though he has performed well in Paris, his status as the big star at the club is seriously under threat by the brilliance of Kylian Mbappe.
The French teenager is well on the way to becoming a genuine superstar of the world game and is increasingly the big star in Paris.
So with that status not even guaranteed for Neymar, the lure of PSG and Ligue 1 is becoming less appetising by the month.
It is suggested that he has been making his feelings known behind the scenes in an effort to engineer a move to Barca next summer.
At one stage, such was the fall-out of his move away, it would have been unthinkable for Barca to even consider such a deal.
But officials at the Nou Camp are now more relaxed about the idea and appear to be willing to be open to the prospect.
However, there are two major stumbling blocks to such a transfer being agreed - firstly the money and secondly whether Barca actually even need him.
It has been claimed a final decision on whether to pursue the transfer rests with the coaching team, and if they decide the team is already well balanced and served in attack, then nothing will happen.
Even if the choice is he would be a useful signing, Barca would then have to come up with a huge fee - similar to the £198m PSG paid - to tempt the French club into selling.
One of the reasons PSG invested heavily in the player was to increase their global standing as a brand.
Two seasons on the payroll might just be enough for them to concede he has served his purpose but with Financial Fair Play worries, they would want a massive fee to come onto their balance sheets.

Politics / Wike Hit By ‘certificate Forgery’ Scandal Ahead Of 2019 Governorship Election by Danma(m): 1:27pm On Oct 17, 2018
The applicant also claimed to have known the Governor from 1991, when they were both of the same Faculty of Law at Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, and that the Governor had always presented his date of birth as 13/12/1967. This, he said, made the Governor 50 years of age in 2017, and this was consistent with the Governor’s 50th birthday celebrations last year in Port Harcourt. By Wike's age declaration to INEC, he would have been 54 rather than the 50 he celebrated in 2017.
Achinike William-Wobodo Esq., a lawyer in Rivers State, has sued Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, for allegedly forging his Age Certificate in documents he presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
William Wobodo instituted the law suit against Wike and INEC at the Federal High Court (Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1020/2018), pursuant to Section 182(1)(j) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
In the suit, he asked the court to disqualify Wike from participating in the 2019 Rivers State governorship election.
The complaint of the Applicant was that in 1999/2000, when Wike intended to contest for the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Council (LGA) chairmanship election, he was less than 35 years, which was the minimum age qualification at the time for contesting the LGA Chairmanship.
In order to qualify himself for that election, Wike allegedly got someone who deposed to an Affidavit that he was born on March 13, 1963, which made him eligible for that election. In the said affidavit, allegedly made in 1986, there was copious reference to Obio/Akpor LGA, which was not in existence as of 1986. The LGA was only created in 1989.
Curiously, the affidavit, titled ‘Statutory Declaration of Age’, was also allegedly deposed to at the High/Chief Magistrate Court, yet had a stamp, purportedly of the Probate Registry. There was no identification or stamp of the person who allegedly administered the Oath as Commissioner for Oath as required by Oaths Act 1963. The Applicant alleged that the Governor had reasons to have known that the age declaration, which he presented to INEC as his Age Certificate, was forged — because even his date of birth earlier submitted in his documentation with INEC was December 13, 1967.

Politics / Lagosians Need Freedom From The Leadership Of One Man – Jimi Agbaje by Danma(m): 1:09pm On Oct 17, 2018
The Lagos state governorship candidate for the People ’s Democratic Party (PDP ), Jimi Agbaje , said Lagosians are tired of being led by one man .
Though the Centre of Excellence has had three governors since 1999 , the PDP candidate believes that the state is under the control of an individual.
Agbaje , who has contested for the governorship of the state since 2007 , lost the last Lagos governorship election to the incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode .
The politician , though, is undeterred as he hopes to get into the government house on the third time of contesting .
Agbaje , who visited the national headquarters of the party in Abuja on Tuesday said voters are ready for change . He also believes PDP would win the 2019 governorship in the state.
He said: “ We are getting ready seriously for elections and we just came out of the national convention stronger as a party.
“We have to congratulate ourselves that we now have a presidential candidate and we also have a vice president candidate ,” Agbaje added.
Agbaje said PDP intends to take Lagos in 2019 election . “The campaign for Lagos is set for us . It is clear to us in Lagos that what Lagosians are looking for is freedom from the vested interests that have gripped Lagos for nearly 20 years . ”
Though , the opposition party has never ruled the state since 1999 when democratic elections started.
Agbaje said Lagos state “is doing well” compared to other states , nevertheless, he believes that Lagos could do better with his campaign theme centered on how to free Lagos state from those holding it in captivity .
Agbaje will be contesting against Babajide Sanwo - Olu of the ruling All Progressives Congress , amongst others in the 2019 Lagos Governorship election . Sanwo - Olu defeated the incumbent Governor Ambode in the APC gubernatorial primary.

Politics / Yoruba Group Kicks Against South-west’s Role In Atiku’s Presidential by Danma(m): 12:22pm On Oct 16, 2018
"We wish to make it clear to the leadership of the party that in spite of the misrule of the APC administration, the party is not treating us as an outsider and no matter how bad it is our son is the Vice President there," the group said.
The Yoruba Restoration Group (YRG) has described the constitution of the Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an indication of the party’s disdain for the Southwest.
On Monday, PDP named Senate President Bukola Saraki as the Director General of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council.
According to a statement on Monday by Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP spokesman, Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State, is Zonal Coordinator for the North-West; Ibrahim Dankwambo, Governor of Gombe State, is the North-East Zonal Coordinator; Samuel Ortom, Governor of Benue State, is the Zonal Coordinator for North-Central; David Umahi, Governor of Ebonyi State, holds the position for South-East, while Nyesom Wike is for South-Southand Ayodele Fayose is for the South-West region.
Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) was named as Chairman, Legal Matters, while Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom, is the Chairman, Fund Raising.
However, in a press statement on Tuesday, signed by its convener, Comrade Daud Jokotola, the YRG chided the party for always "thinking low" of the region despite its huge voting population.
“Ever since Chief Obasanjo left the PDP, the party has continued to treat south-westerners as outcast,” read the statement.
“It is on record that we only became the Speaker of the House of Representatives by chance during the Yar'Adua administration and ever since then, the PDP, in what looks like a sort of coup, has taken every leadership position meant for us to other regions.
"In 2017 when the chairmanship of the party was zoned to the region by a committee set up by the party itself, they took that position from us and gave it to the South-South.
"In the newly constituted campaign council of the party for the 2019 presidential election, the same party thought so low of us to drag us to merely regional coordinator.
"While we have no issues with the South-East being the vice presidential candidate and have taken the decision in good faith as a contribution to national unity, we will not stand back and allow this open desecration of our honour continue.
"We wish to make it clear to the leadership of the party that in spite of the misrule of the APC administration, the party is not treating us as an outsider and no matter how bad it is our son is the Vice President there.”

Sports / Mbappe's '300 Hp' Has Draxler Running Scared by Danma(m): 11:16am On Oct 16, 2018
The speed of the World Cup-winning forward has got his club colleague worried ahead of Germany's meeting with France in Paris on Tuesday
Kylian Mbappe boasts "300 hp" and is almost impossible to stop if he is given space to run, Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Julian Draxler says.
Germany head to Paris on Tuesday to take on world champions France in the Nations League, hoping to bounce back from last weekend's 3-0 defeat to Netherlands in Amsterdam.
Mbappe helped France rescue a 2-2 draw with Iceland in a friendly match last time out, taking his tally to nine international goals in 2018 in the process.
And Draxler admits Germany will need to be at their collective best to stop the explosive 19-year-old from running riot against their defence.
"If he has space to get started, it's almost impossible to catch him with his 300 hp," Draxler told T-online.
"His speed and his finishing [are his biggest weapons]. We must not allow him to use either, by defending very compact."
Mbappe has enjoyed a strong start to the domestic season, too, with eight goals in just four starts in Ligue 1.
PSG are firmly on track to defend their domestic trophies and have lost only one match in all competitions under head coach Thomas Tuchel – a 3-2 Champions League reverse to Liverpool.
Draxler says Tuchel's response to the team after that defeat at Anfield highlighted the demands he places on the players, but insists the former Borussia Dortmund boss has created a positive vibe in the dressing room.
"He spreads a good atmosphere, inside and outside. He lets us play attractive football, he has clear ideas and he gives these to us very clearly," Draxler added.
"After losing to Liverpool, he told us very clearly what had gone wrong. Not everything is 'peace, joy and pancakes' on the way to success. But that's also why he does very well and has the team on his side."

Jobs/Vacancies / Fresh Trouble For Minimum Wage by Danma(m): 10:48am On Oct 16, 2018
But another announcement by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige that negotiation was inconclusive and that no agreement had been reached over a definite figure even after the tripartite negotiation committee rounded off its deliberations, has thrown up fresh agitation in the labour circle.
When the organised labour suspended its strike action over declaration of negotiation of minimum wage on Sunday, 30th September 2018, it was believed that a new minimum wage would soon be announced.
But another announcement by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige that negotiation was inconclusive and that no agreement had been reached over a definite figure even after the tripartite negotiation committee rounded off its deliberations, has thrown up fresh agitation in the labour circle.
The Guardian gathered that at the October 4th and 5th meeting, both the organised private sector and organised labour agreed on N30, 000 while the Federal Government team led by Ngige pressed for N25, 000.
The conclusion was that since the organised labour and organised private sector are in agreement and in the spirit of tripartism, two against one was a done deal.
The meeting then adjourned to await the date for presentation to the Federal Government.
With these achieved, labour said it was at a loss at what transpired within government circle within one week.
Indeed, Ngige made unveiled his new position after the first the FEC meeting that preceded the conclusion of the committee’s negotiation.
Were new facts presented to Ngige at the FEC meeting that influenced a change of stand? Labour said they think so.
Indeed, according to the Convention 131 of International Labour Organisation (ILO), which has always been erroneously cited by Dr Ngige on the ability to pay, nothing can be further from the truth.
The convention, which ILO adopted in 1970 titled ‘Minimum wage fixing convention, 1971 (No 131)’ remains the most adopted convention by the ILO member states, encourages members to establish a machinery to fix and adjust minimum wages from time to time; wages that are based on the principle of full consultation with social partners (tripartism); involves social partners, on an equal footing, as well as independent experts in the design and operation of the system; sets the minimum levels that take into account the needs of workers and their families, as well as economic factors and include appropriate measures to ensure the effective application of minimum wage.
It is therefore a pure mischief by the Minister to declare that the ILO convention 131 speaks to ability to pay by employers.
The centrepiece of the convention is that the tripartite bodies must reach a common figure, which labour said was achieved before the committee was legitimately adjourned.
The agreement on N30, 000 by both labour and the organised private sector indeed signalled that majority (labour and employer body) had their way while minority (government) had its say.
Labour also said the Minister did not oppose the N30, 000 figure at the meeting and that the committee on figure that made the submission was chaired by Ngige himself.
The argument of labour is that N30, 000 monthly (which is less than 100 dollars) is grossly inadequate to take care of a man, his wife and four children as stated in one of the strands of the ILO convention 131, which states that a minimum wage must take into account the needs of workers and their families.
The present scenario seems to lend credence to insinuations within labour movement that the present government is not committed to implementing a new minimum wage.
Speaking at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, Ngige said the Federal Government proposed N24, 000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants.
Ngige claimed that when the committee reconvened on October 5th, after the NLC had suspended its nationwide strike, “the organised labour came down to N30, 000 the organised private sector came down to N25, 000 while the state governments proposed N20, 000.”
He said the Federal Government is still ‘consulting’ and that the negotiation is on going.
He said in accordance with Convention 131 of the ILO, the most important thing to consider in fixing the new minimum wage is the ability to pay.
In his reaction to the development, President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba said the entire labour movement was dumbfounded by the latest argument of the Minister.
He added that the organised labour would not hesitate to declare yet another strike action that would be debilitating to the nation’s economy should the Federal Government delays the promulgation of a new minimum wage within the shortest period of time.

Politics / Saraki Emerges Atiku Campaign Director by Danma(m): 10:26am On Oct 16, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party has announced Senate President Bukola Saraki the head of its presidential campaign efforts.
Mr Saraki’s official position as the director-general of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation was disclosed on Tuesday morning by Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s spokesperson. Mr Abubakar was elected the presidential candidate of the main opposition party at its national convention in Port Harcourt earlier this month.
Mr Saraki was amongst the 11 other aspirants who challenged Mr Abubakar for the ticket. All the aspirants have pledged support to Mr Abubakar, after deeming the exercise peaceful and transparent.
The senate president would work with six others who would coordinate the six geopolitical zones, including three other former contenders for the presidential ticket.
The zonal coordinators were announced as follows: Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal (North-west); Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi (South-East); Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo (North-east); Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike (South-south); Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom (North-central) and former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose would lead South-west push.
Kabiru Turaki, a senior lawyer and former minister, would chair legal matters; while Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel would chair fund-raising committee.
Messrs Turaki, Dankwambo and Tambuwal all unsuccessfully vied for the presidential ticket against Mr Atiku.
Other key appointments into the campaign structure would be disclosed soon, Mr Ologbondiyan said.
The announcement comes three days after Mr Umahi led other South-east governors to protest the nomination of Peter Obi as the vice-presidential running mate to Mr Abubakar. Mr Umahi and other South-east leaders, including Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and governors of Enugu and Abia states, said Mr Abubakar did not consult them before appointing Mr Obi on October 12.
Mr Abubakar has reportedly informed the South-east leaders that he would address their complaints when he returns into the country from a short vacation abroad, although his campaign insisted Mr Obi would not be replaced.
Mr Umahi’s seeming closeness to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is seeking re-election, has also drawn criticism after his name appeared on the list of zonal coordinators Tuesday morning.
Critics believe the governor’s professed admiration of Mr Buhari could adversely impact his performance in the South-east, where Mr Abubakar is expected to win, with some fearing internal sabotage.
Mr Ologbondiyan dismissed those concerns to PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday morning, saying they are “whimsical allegations” that have no correlation to reality.
He also dismissed concerns about Mr Fayose, whose tenure expired yesterday and is expected to turn himself in at the anti-graft EFCC office on corruption allegations.
“He would not be at the EFCC office forever,” Mr Ologbondiyan said. “They have only accused him and he would soon be out of the place to coordinate the campaign in the South-west.”

Politics / Why Atiku Cannot Replace Peter Obi As A Running Mate by Danma(m): 10:05am On Oct 16, 2018
A PDP source has revealed why Atiku Abubakar cannot replace Peter obi as his running mate
- The source said Obi's replacement is not an option for Atiku
- According to the source, Atiku wanted someone he can give important responsibilities to and he found that in Obi
The appointment of a former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, as the running mate to an ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar has been met with various reactions from different quarters.
While many approve of the decision made by Atiku, some politicians addressed as southeast leaders have condemned the action stating that they were not consulted before the said appointment.
However, sources within the PDP have said replacing Obi for another candidate is not an option for Atiku at the moment.
According to Sahara Reporters, the PDP presidential candidate will not replace Obi despite opposition from some party leaders in the southeast.Sources said the complaint made by the southeast leaders have been taken note of by Atiku even though replacing Obi with anyone else is "not an option for him”.
“The fact remains that Peter Obi remains the best option for now… the best who is in sync with Atiku ideologically and business-wise,” the source said.
“He is young, smart, cool-headed as well. Atiku wants a VP whom he can give important responsibilities to; not someone going around to give lectures and seminars, and sharing N20,000 at market squares. Those were some of the things Atiku was looking for, and he has seen them in Peter Obi.”
“On the political side, it will be hard for him - because the opposition might use that against him, saying he is not firm and cannot stand by his decisions. We were talking about cabals running the Muhammadu Buhari administration; how will that be different from some individuals in the country dictating who should be picked as running mate?
“South West only had two options: Akinwunmi Adesina and Gbenga Daniel. But while campaigning, Atiku had even promised that them in the South-East that one of them would become his running mate. If he doesn’t keep to that promise, it would be difficult for those people to trust him for the election.
He made a promise; he has fulfilled that promise. It is not now for some individuals to now think they should be able to tell him who exactly should be picked, " the source added.
Atiku also said that one of APC's greatest challenge is the health condition of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former vice president who was quoted in an interview published in a new book by Isa Odidi: ‘Atiku Abubakar: The Best Choice for President of Nigeria in 2019’ said the APC led administration have failed to manage its electoral successes.
