How we abducted Chibok girls in 2014 — Boko Haram commanders

•We were not doing it for Islam
•Money offered us by the sect too tempting
•We got N200,000 to convey suicide bombers to locations
•Shekau’s camp was deep inside Sambisa forest

Following the recent arrest of 22 members and commanders of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Led by DCP Abba Kyari shocking revelations have emerged on the murderous activities of the sect.

It was gathered that three commanders of the Civilian Joint Task Force, an outfit created by the Borno State Government, to assist the Nigeria Military in trailing and arresting members of the sect, were among those arrested by the IRT, for giving out operational information of the military to members of the sect.

Eight other suspects also confessed during interrogations that they were part of the group that carried out the April 2014, kidnap of over 200 schoolgirls from a government secondary school, in Chibok area of Borno State.

When Vanguard interviewed the suspects, some of the commanders, foot soldiers and informants narrated their roles and the various tasks executed for the group.

Attack on Chibok

Maita Alhaji Modu alias Abu, a 20-year-old Boko Haram commander, Though he said he has not gone to School and not sure of his real age, Native of Bama Local Government of Borno State, who was a farmer and had no formal education confessed that he took an active part in the 2014 kidnap of Chibok schoolgirls and he was equally responsible for moving young girls who were used for suicide bombings from Sambisa Forest into Maiduguri Town.

He said as a commander, he had been fighting for the sect since 2011 and assisted the group in taking over several towns, villages. He said he also participated in ambush attacks across the Northeastern states of Nigeria and some parts of Niger, Chad and Cameroon. He disclosed that the leadership of the group usually paid each fighter the sum of N30,000 after each attack.

Narrating how the group carried out the April 2014 Chibok school girls attack, he said; “one of our commanders, who received direct orders from our leader, Abubakar Shekau, Bana Chungori, called out over 100 of us and we all assembled at the Sambisa Forest.

He told us that our leader, Shekau had ordered that we should all go to Chibok Local Government and kidnap some school girls at the school. We couldn’t ask questions, because it was a direct order from Shekau and we all mounted our trucks.

We had five big military trucks, three Toyota Hilux vans and two Isuzu pickup trucks. We left Sambisa Forest around 5pm that evening and arrived the school around 10pm.

We surrounded the school when we arrived and when we were certain that there would be no resistance, Chungori gave orders that we should all go in and we found the girls running in fear. We kidnapped many of them and took them away in our trucks.

When we got to the entrance of the Sambisa Forest, Chungori asked all the foot soldiers and other lower commanders including me to leave the truck because he was to take the girls to Shekau, whose camp was deep inside the forest.

I didn’t see the girls again because I was not close to Shekau, but I was paid the sum of N30,000 on the day of the kidnapping and I was also given the sum of N60,000 after a set of ransom was paid for the release of the girls.”

Fiery Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, has said that President Muhammadu had performed worse than the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan in every area.

“When you try to correct the president, they come out in their millions trying to abuse you. They don’t even counteract your points with knowledge. If you think abusing us will deter us, you are making a mistake.

“There is problem with and in the government. We have absolute failure in government. People are dying, things are not good. We cannot continue this way.

Asked why he had not visited the Villa to advice the President, the cleric added, “I cannot get to the other room with him because I am not his wife but even somebody who has access to the other room cannot get ideas into his head.

“How do you blame somebody who does not have access to the other room? You cannot change Buhari. He is already cast in a mentality. He believes that most Nigerians, if not all, are rascals, thieves and 419.

“He believes only his own circle are the good people. You cannot get across anything. He has castigated Nigerians in many fora and everybody knows that. He is somebody who always blames others; he does not take responsibility for anything.

POLICE WELFARE (SALARY)

It is very common and easy to hear people say the police have failed in protecting lives and property anytime there is a civil disturbance or any crime.

One thing people don't take into account is why is the failure?

In order to function as humans, there are basic things we need like oxygen, water and food among many.

The police too requires some basic things to effectively work.

They are not spirits.

At the risk of whatever consequences that could arise as a result of this post, please find below the budget requirements for the police in 2016 and 2017 vis-a-vis what was allocated/released to them

In 2016, the police submitted an OVERHEAD budget of N90,645,426,172. The National Assembly in its WISDOM appropriated N9,250,656,307 representing less than 10% of the request. Until the year ended, only N6,369,343,519.18 was released.

In the same year, a CAPITAL budget of N331,000,000,000 was made. Out of this, the National Assembly appropriated N16,107,272,000. Until the year phased out, N10,026,818,000 was the amount released.

In 2017, the police sent in an overhead budget of N90,645,462,172 and N11,655,565,307 was appropriated out of which only N5,026,115,986.8 was released.

In the same year, a capital budget of N162,913,472,672 was submitted. Of this, N20,198,272,000 was appropriated. As at almost end of the year, only N3,000,000,000 was released.

The UN standard is ONE policeman to 400 persons.

The UN here refers to a fully kitted policeman who undergoes training and retraining continously and whose welfare is not being compromised.

It is ONE policeman to 800 persons here.

In terms of salaries, I have no issues when an American, British or Australian police is paid higher than the Nigeria Police.

What I find amazing is how a Cameroonian and a Ghanaian police earns much more than our police officers do.

LIST OF MINIMUM WAGES BY COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD.

1. Nigeria - $38 (N18,000).
2. Algeria - $175 (N83,000).
3. Belgium - $1,738 (N810,000).
4. Cameroun - 36, 270CFA ($75) N38,000.
5. Chad - $120 (N60,000).
6. Denmark - $1,820 (N900,000).
7. Libya - $430 (N190,000).
8. Japan - $1000 (N450,000).
9. Cote D'ivoire -36,607CFA $72.
10. New Zealand -$3,187 (N1.4m).
11. Luxemburg - $2,500 (N1.1m).
12. Spain - $760. (N300,000).
13. Switzerland - $5,620 - N2.5m.
14. USA - $11 per hour.

Ironically, Nigeria politicians earn the highest salaries the whole world.

In Luxemburg where minimum wage is $2,500, their lawmakers are paid $7,400.

In Libya where minimum wage is $430, law-makers earn $3000.

In Nigeria where minimum wage is $38 (N18,000), law-makers earn $65,000 (N29m).

The comparison is alarming.

Let's solve a little maths..... In 2010 you earn #50,000 naira, A Dollar was #160 Naira,that means you earn 315 Dollars per month.

In 2018,your salary remains #50,000 naira, that means you now earn about 137 Dollars per month.

In other words it means you have spent about 8years of your life working backwards.

Are you retrogressing or progressing

How long will this continue

What magic will the police do to perform as required by the UN with these little resources?
