Dear dealer,
I accidentally stumbled on your page and I am impressed with your business; your choice of cars are clean and cheap. I have got two questions to ask you though: (1) should I buy one of these cars, can you deliver in Ibadan? (2) are the papers for these cars in order?

Family / Re: Please Help Me. Am I Making A Right Decision??! by Dapo4u(m): 5:39am On Apr 17, 2015
NO, you are NOT making the right decision. It does appear to me that you are either not physically attractive or not taking good care of your look (please, no pun intended)? If you were, I guess you should have been in another relationship and perhaps, you also would have moved on.
Got pregnant for him. He asked you to abort it and move on, you did not move on.
He is cheating on you despite satisfying him with sex, even three weeks after CS!
He disrespects you in front of everyone.
He has NEVER loved you.
He used you as his rebound for SEX.
You can't fend for yourself, your parents take care of you.
Sister, round off your MSc programme and look for a decent job to be able to take care of yourself and baby. Look up unto God and the person who truly loves and adores you will come around.

Emeraldey:
Hello awesome people of this thread, I decided to post this here and not the 'Romance' section because this has to do with a 'Home in view'. I created this 'Moniker' for the sake of confidentiality.. My story is quite long but please bear with me and kindly advice me.
I'll be 25 years later this year. This guy and I met way back in the university, I was naïve and knew nothing much about relationships. I loved him so much from the very start of the relationship, yes I know it shouldn't be but yes I loved him outrightly. It was 2months into the relationship that I discovered he has other relationships. I naively stayed cos I thought I could change him. Different fights occurred especially over other ladies, but in all I stayed put in the relationship. I still stayed even after I realised he doesn't love me, rather he wants me for sex, to cook for him and his pals and even do his laundry.
Two years into the relationship, I got pregnant and since he had graduated I called to inform him, but he told me to get rid of it and move on with my life. I couldn't bring myself to abort the innocent child, so I kept it, my mum contacted his mum and they came over to meet my people, shortly before I put to bed. It was like he was even forced to come. I had the child through C.S and on our child's naming he specifically referred to me as 'My Child's Mum', right there in front of everyone. I kept smiling like a fool just so people will believe all is well. I should also mention that 3weeks after the CS I agreed to sleep with him, just to keep him from sleeping with other women.
He claims he has grown to love me, but hey, he cheats on me, and whenever I get to know, he calls me degrading names, insults d living daylight out of me, uses names like 'Hoe, Bitch' and co. He talks to me without any Iota of respect, even before his family and friends. Whenever I talk to him about how he treats me, he says I complain too much, he says I nag and all. And just lately, he has been all and about me walking away if I can't take him for who he is. Our son is going on 3, and am supposed to get married to this man after my 'Masters' programe, which am almost through with. Its like the only thing we do is have s*x, he can't even hug me outside or be proud of me whenever we are outside, he once insulted me in d presence of his friends on one of our occasional visits. Yet he claims to love me. I can't even touch his phone, because he made me realise I have no right whatsoever to touch his phone. I feel like am not good enough, I feel like those other ladies he keeps are better than me. I am suppose to get married to this man in six months time but I don't see myself been happy in that marriage. At the same time his mum talked to me that she doesn't wish for me to have my kids born to different fathers. He keeps telling me at every quarrel that if I want to leave I am free to. He doesn't care if I stay or leave I.e he is indifferent about the whole marriage issue. His mum wants us to end up together. Am really confused, my happiness is at stake. Pls advice me. Mutter, Babyosisi, EfemenaXY, ShiningMama, Moca and the rest, please help me. I'm really loosing my sanity.

Jonathan is not supposed to be in Aso Rock forever, someday he would have left, so leaving early shouldnt be seen as death. Jonathan is NOT a regular politician, he is a career person, not some Almajiri that joined the military and earn allowance from constant flow of oil money.

We MUST respect Ekpo. The election was NOT free, and fare, I saw pictures and videos of kids voting in the North. Election was not fare, Jega delivered PVC to Imams and Mosques in the North and created bureaucy and bottlenecks in the East and in the West, non-Yorubas were denied PVC. Every sincere person will agree with this truth.

I congratulate Jonathan for saving the life of Nigerians by conceding and not contesting that election result. When Buhari lost, he cried his eyes out and what followed was murder of over 600 including corpers. Today, he is back to Aso Rock. We are watching him.

One must commend president Jonathan for conceding defeat to General Buhari. Then I asked myself, what should Jonathan have done differently having lost in 21 states of the federation? It is crystal clear that majority of Nigerians were tired of PDP-led government and that was a reflection of why PDP lost in some of their stronghold states (SW, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Adamawa etc.). It is amusing that you are quick to mudslinging the person of Prof Jega and alleged rigging in the North while you failed to let us know how elections were held in the SS and SE?

Extend what? These crooks suffering from amnesia must think we're dumb and forget things easily like them.

Weren't they the mórons against the extension of election dates so the Jega they're praising can conduct a better election? Weren't they the ones praising the card readers even when the card readers registered a 40% failure? Accusing PDP of trying to rig election by rejecting the card readers? Now the card readers ain't favoring their rigging patterns and hopes including the nabbing of their various party zombies with already thumb-printed ballot boxes, they're here wailing for more time? Jokers. No extension!! The time for closure for voting is sacrosanct. Buhari must cry today.

GEJ till 2019!!

There is a difference between being dumb and appears to be dumb. The revised electoral constitution stipulates that if elections could not be completed in one day, the process will continue the following day and all parties are signatory to this law. GEJ and GBM are aware of this process.

Politics / Re: DSS Uncovers Plot To Announce Election Results Before INEC by Dapo4u(m): 3:37pm On Mar 27, 2015
kadas01:
The Department of State Service has uncovered plans by some persons to announce election results ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, warning Nigerians and international observers to disregard any such announcement.

The DSS made this known yesterday in a statement signed by the Service spokesman, Marilyn Ogar and made available to LEADERSHIP Friday, in which she warned Nigerians who have no business with the elections to stay away from polling centres.

“Information at the disposal of this Service has revealed that certain mischievous persons or groups have concluded plans to announce election results before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concludes its collation exercise.

“This statement therefore is to advice all citizens of Nigeria, election observers and the International community to disregard election results which are not announced by INEC, as the commission remains the only authentic body authorized to do so.

“Once more, we reiterate our call on all eligible voters to come out and exercise their franchise as security is guaranteed. We also want to seize this opportunity to remind voters to remain vigilant and to warn all those who have no business with the electoral process to keep away from Polling Units and Collation Centres,” Ogar said.

Source: http://leadership.ng/news/420609/dss-uncovers-plot-to-announce-election-results-before-inec

How did we get to this stage? How on earth did Ogar become the spokesperson for a revered institution like DSS? The only institution that is saddled with the responsibility of conducting an election and announcing the results of such an election is the INEC. Why should we be bothered by results announced by other bodies? Must she sensationalise every trivial issue? This is a non-issue and I expect my 10-year-old son to know that any results announced by other bodies apart from INEC remains null and void.

Maybe we should ask all Yorubas in Igboland land to return home and ask all Igbo people in Yoruba land to go back home? At least, Igbo people are known to be highly resourceful and hard working, I guess you will turn Onistsha and Aba to Dubai in one year.

Health / Re: My Doctor Told Me That Am Infected With HIV Without Prior Notice Of The Test! by Dapo4u(m): 3:02pm On Mar 18, 2015
kenonze:
Dear NL, I went to a chemist to explain my health challenges but was referred to see a doctor in a nearby clinic.

When I got to the clinic, being my first time ever to visit a normal hospital set up, I was confused with protocol however got to see the doctor and gave him all the answers to the numerous questions he asked.

He told me that I should run some test including taking sample from my vagina.

I was told to come for the results the next day which I did. Before now, my boyfriend has done some test and insisted I should see a doctor.

When I got to the doctor for my results and probably to start up treatment, the doctor was in his office, strangely he stood up and hugged me warmly. I was like could it be because of my new hairdo or makeover?

He offered me a seat and raised a topic off the main issue why I came.

I wasn't moved until he keep talking as if he wanted to tell me that I failed an exams. Curiosity were all over me until he finally told me that I have the deadly virus.(HIV)

The gum I was chewing just fell off my mouth, I started sweating on my palms and nose. I held the chair firmly for support but was almost dead.

He told me that it was for my best interest to know now than later when I might come down with bigger signs and symptoms.

I never told him to include HIV test,

I can barely eat since then.

I have lost weight.

I see the doctor as a monster.

Please advise me on what to do.

This happened to my friend in bayelsa.
She needed advise if at all she will listen.

In simple answer, NO. The test is called "voluntary counseling and testing (VCT)", and what it means is that pre-and post-counseling and testing itself are voluntary. I am not surprised about some comments to your question here, everyone has an opinion to what he or she knows nothing about. Well, I would advice your friend to go for a confirmatory test and if it comes out positive, I guess there are some centres in Bayelsa where she can receive adequate care. However, HIV does not kill, it is the ignorance, stereotypes, discrimination and stigma that kill.

Romance / Re: Should I Quit The Relationship? by Dapo4u(m): 10:48am On Jan 18, 2015
Diablo666:
Dear nairalanders, I need some mature advice on this issue please.
I met this lady sometimes last year. She is quite beautiful and sexy, and a couple of years older than me. (am in my mid 20s. a graduate). She is Woking class and a very busy kind of person. We started off as friends, but then things changed when one day I made a flirty remark on a dress she uploaded on her dp and then on one free weekend she invited me over and next thing I knew, we had sex.
our relationship continued that way, whenever she has the slightest day off work, she ll invite me over and we ll just indulge in the act. (note, she has countlessly refused to come to my place). At a point I tried to take a step further by asking her out into a formal relationship but she declined, citing the age difference as a factor, plus she mentioned she is in a serious relationship with someone else thats leading to marriage anytime soon. But then its been morethan a year now and she is still single. I proposed the formal relationship idea a few other times but she just laughed it off.
My problem is, most times, I feel used, because I have this huge ego as a Man, and hates the fact that all she sees in me is in bed, but sometimes I feel privileged being the one amongst many to be honoured with hitting the kitty because I am aware of numerous toasters trying to woo her cos of her beauty and sexy body.
and honestly, I think am developing a feelings towards her and really wish she would give me a chance to be a real man to her cos am a responsible kind of guy. I have never asked her for any financial favours and have never intended to cos I am financially independent. (am not a rich guy but am not poor or broke either). In fact, so far, Av been the one buying her few presents and on several times, she has commented on how nice and caring I am and how she trips for my looks, loves hearing my voice.
So guys, should I quit this kind of relationship or just continue with it the way she wants it?

@Op, my summary in one sentence is that you are being used as a rebound for whatever the lady is passing through. The lady could be in a distant relationship? It could be something else, unfortunately you are not in her picture. She has refused to come to your place and she calls you when she wants to have sex .I think you are being used.

Are you seeking for advice or you want us to tell you what you think we should be telling you? It appers to me you have made up your mind and you want to know if we all agree with you. No one is saying you shouldn't test the water with the new guy, but it is a taboo to have sex with someone who isn't the father of your unborn child. I am even surprised that your new guy doesn't know about this.

Amaechi did not! Now he's trapped. He can't go back to PDP, that's even if he avoids jail cos we know Wike would surely deal with him.

APC would handle him with extreme care because they know that a man that can sell his "brother" for a plate of porridge can also poison his friends (APC).

Ameachi is finished politically. He was busy shouting change undecided, little did he know the only change he would see is change in his political career.

Now he's a slave. The governor that became a slave!!! What a sad story.

You seem to know everything about Nigeria's politics? I bet you don't have a clue about what happens in that ivory tower. Atiku , a one time founding member of PDP has been frolicking between PDP and APC in the last four years; Olagunsoye Oyinlola, an ex-governor of Osun state and a strong member of PDP almost put Ogbeni Aregbesola behind bars but now both are eating from the same pot. That means in politics, there is no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interest exists. If you think these guys care about us, maybe you are a learner?

It was the failure of the Nigeria state to decisively annihilate Niger-Delta militants from the outset that led to the emergence of Boko Harams and I am afraid we might witness another regional militias as long as people like you continue to harbour and promote ethnic divides. We gave Niger Delta the opportunity to re-write the Nigeria history, you gave us a man who was not prepared and not competent to move us forward as a nation. You gave us someone, who once said "stealing is not corruption". You have shown us that it pays to be a militant because every time we want to discuss the Nigeria state, you threaten us with Tompolos and Asari Dokubos of this world. ".. When you show appreciation it is not about you. You are encouraging and motivating the person you showed appreciation to keep doing good to others. That way the society gets better.".. Someone once said saying ‘Thank you’ is what makes the United States a land of charity & benevolence.

A young lady from the Eastern part of Nigeria who used to be my neighbor at Lagos approached me several months ago at Lagos and complained she’s wasting away since graduation 2 years ago because she couldn’t get a good job. I gave her most of my Aptitude test preparatory and GMAT books and encouraged her to study and pass bank aptitude tests, then call me. She did pass. I called all my friends and begged them to push her in. Suddenly, I didn’t hear from her any longer for over Four months. I later ran into her friend who told me she got hired as a full staff in one of the old-generation banks in Lagos through one of the contacts I gave her. The lady was even begging me to please help her too. I was a bit shocked and called her, she picked the call and was a bit cold ‘professional’ on the phone. She promised to call back when she was free from work. She never did. Almost a week later she sent a few line text that she forgot to call back. She’s been very busy and comes back late. I replied that I only wanted to know how she’s doing and if she got the job. She replied with one line “Yes, thanks a lot for your help by the way”.

I shared this story with one of my friends who helped her. He said that makes a big difference between helping a Nigerian man and a Nigerian woman. The men will always remember who got them there and even call you 'my Oga' forever, while the young ladies will always feel entitled that you did it because they were beautiful. I suspect the man told her I wasn’t too pleased with her. She called me last week and blew hot and cold ranting saying Nobody is God, her glory goes to God not to men, that if it’s not the will of God it would not happen…bla, bla, bla, that she was planning to call and thank me specially after her confirmation…we exchanged words and she later de-friended me on Facebook.
Anyway, I just heard through a very reliable Manager that a senior manager said she may not be confirmed if she doesn’t start doing certain things right in the next few months. I have not shared this confidential information with her and don’t feel like, yet my conscience tells me to inform her.

Mister, stop stalking the damn lady! If you "assist" her once again and she cant even remember your names the next time you see her, what will you do? You will put up a billboard to let everyone know how ungrateful she was? In Yoruba palance, whoever fails to acknowledge an earlier gratitude shouldn't expect another one. A beg erase the lady from your mind, she is not worth your time.

Education / Re: FG Deploys 50 Lecturers To Ugandan University by Dapo4u(m): 5:33am On Jul 23, 2014
inteli: Nigeria has deployed 50 volunteers of the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) to the Islamic University of Uganda where they will lecture until 2016.
Addressing the volunteers at the pre-departure ceremony in Abuja, the Director General of TAC, Prof. Pius Osunyikanmi said the delegation is part of about 1,500 volunteers to be deployed to 15 countries this year.

“One major aspects of Nigeria’s foreign policy is the Technical Aid Corps with the objective of providing technical know-how and manpower assistance to African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. TAC was given birth to with the view to leveraging on the abundant human and material resources in the country using it as a platform to providing technical know-how to needy ACP countries.

“We have a total of 50 of you that will be departing for a single University in Uganda. You will be going there to render services as University lecturers. You are the second batch that will be posted in the last one month. Other batches going to Namibia, Rwanda, Burundi, and others will follow in due course. In all, we would be deploying about 1,500 within the next three months”, Osunyikanmi said.

He explained that President Goodluck Jonathan gave a charge that the recruitment process should be 100 per cent merit-driven and the Directorate’s frontiers should be expanded to cover more countries.

Osunyikanmi assured the Volunteers that Nigeria would stand by them adding, “Uganda is desirous of your services and you cannot afford to give less than what they desire of you. Discipline should be your watchword; you are carrying the Nigerian flag and you must be able to do Nigeria proud.

Ensure that you market and project Nigeria in its proper perspective. Let them know that indeed Nigeria is a country that is peaceful, progressive and developing. Let everybody who cares know that Nigeria is stable, progressive and that we are on an irreversible course in our journey to development”, he said.

The Corps is a federal department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was established in 1987 to leverage on the abundant human and material resources in the country using it as a platform to providing technical know-how to needy countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific States.
Prof. Osunyikanmi urged the volunteers to be disciplined and be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

mukina2: Everyone knows that messi is a good player, we accept, but why should FIFA/Sepp Blatter continue this Messi bias?
Mascherano was Argentina's best player by miles.

robbery at its finest angry

If you think the best player is chosen based on the on-field performances, you might be dead wrong? For you to represent the face of a brand, many factors are considered: charisma, talent, expertise, power, team spirit, role modelling, marketing, behaviour etc.
The choice of Messi might be based on these factors.Either Arjen Robben or Muller would have been a great choice, but the duo lack fair-play and discipline. Robben once admitted to dive to win a penalty and Muller was instrumental to Pepe sending off.

Education / Re: July 10 1999 Massacre In Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife by Dapo4u(m): 2:55pm On Jul 10, 2014
seanswitch: "On Saturday, 7 March 1999, a group of members held a meeting in Ife town. After the meeting, they drove back to the campus. On the main road, Road 1, leading into the campus, they were overtaken by some students in another car. For whatever reason, they were enraged and gave chase to the students. The students, seeing them in pursuit, raced hastily to the car park outside Angola Hall and ran into the adjacent Awolowo Hall for safety. The Students’ Union, which had also received information that secret cult members were gathering in a house in the senior staff quarters, mobilised in response to the incident. Led by George Iwilade, the Secretary-General, a group of them drove to the house, officially occupied by Mr. F.M. Mekoma, and forced their way into the boys’ quarters. They found nine individuals inside, eight of them students of the University, with a submachine gun, a locally manufactured gun, an axe, a bayonet and the black clothing and regalia of the cult. The University authorities were informed, and the members of the secret cult were handed over to the Police. They were held in police custody and taken to the Chief Magistrate’s Court where two weeks later they were granted bail.

The case was heard on 31 March, and to the utmost amazement of everyone, the Chief Magistrate discharged and acquitted the arrested individuals. The students who had apprehended the cult members were not called as witnesses. The investigating police officer, Corporal Femi Adewoye, claimed that the witnesses could not be located and actually stated in Court, “I tried to contact the complainants in this case, all to no avail. To date, there is no complainant in the case. Since all the accused persons denied the allegations against them and there is no complainant, there is no way the allegations can be proved.” This was the submission of the prosecuting police officer! Usually, in such cases, witness’ summons were served through the University Administration but this did not happen. The trial was concluded in two court appearances in eight days.

The Chief Magistrate also ordered that the submachine gun be sent to the police armourer and the other exhibits be destroyed, thus eliminating all the evidence, and making it impossible to re-open the case. The Judicial Enquiry recommended that the Magistrate be reported to the Judicial Commission for appropriate disciplinary action. Nothing came of this, as nothing came of all the other recommendations of that Panel.

After the arrests of the cult members, the University, under pressure from the students, issued a release suspending them without serving them with letters of suspension. Shortly afterwards, the University was closed as a result of a student crisis. When it re-opened three months later, the cult members returned to the campus and were seen attending lectures. The students raised an alarm once more. In response to this, the University issued a release on 2 July re-affirming the suspensions of the cult members. The letters of suspension were dated 8 July and it is doubtful whether those affected actually received them before the tragic events two days later. Even then, one of the students, Bruno Arinze, was left out. I eventually suspended him on 23 July.

The cult involved in the episode of 7 March was the . Four major reasons have been advanced as to the genesis leading to the mayhem on 10 July. One, to which I subscribe, was that the was avenging the humiliating treatment of its members by the Student Union leaders in March 1999.

On the night of 9 July 1999, the Kegites, members of the Palm Wine Drinkers’ Club, held a “gyration” (party) in the cafeteria of Awolowo Hall. The party was in full swing, when, at around 3.30am (now 10 July), a group of masked individuals, wearing black clothing, drove through the main gate and proceeded to the car park next to the Tennis Courts in the Sports Centre. They disembarked there and went on foot along a bush path to Awolowo Hall, where they violently interrupted the gyration, firing guns and also wielding axes and cutlasses. The group was probably all young men, although there is a persistent story of at least one woman among them. Some of the partygoers were shot, though none of them was killed. The partygoers ran for their lives, a few actually throwing themselves through glass doors.

A group of the gunmen chased the partygoers as far as Mozambique Hall. Other groups proceeded to the rooms. They first entered Room 184, where they shot and killed Efe Ekede, a Part II Psychology student. In Room 230, they shot Charles Ita, a Part II Law student. A group of the attackers then shot Yemi Ajiteru, a Part II Religious Studies student, through the head in the corridor outside the Kegites’ headquarters. In Room 273, they found George Iwilade (Afrika), the Secretary-General of the Students’ Union and a Law student, and shot him through the head, along with another occupant, Tunde Oke, a Part 1 student of Philosophy, who was shot in the abdomen. When the attackers got to Room 271, the room allocated to the suspended Students’ Union President, Lanre Adeleke (Legacy), they found that he had escaped. Legacy was in his room when he heard the first gun shots. He hurriedly went to his door, looked out, and saw two of the attackers on the next floor, firing shots. He ran back into his room and broke through the partition of the kitchenette into the next room’s kitchenette. He heard them shouting, “Legacy, come out!” and escaped into the next room. During the course of the incident, the attackers also shouted the names of “Afrika”, George Iwilade, and “Dexter”, the Chief of the Kegites, demanding that they come out.

The band of thugs proceeded to Fajuyi Hall on foot, where they shot and killed one more student. That individual, Eviano Ekelemo, a medical student, was certainly not a student activist, but they shot him anyway. The murderers left Fajuyi Hall on foot and went through the bush path behind the Hall back to their vehicles. They drove to the Students’ Union building, which they ransacked. They returned to their vehicles and drove out of the University through the main gate. The security staff, having heard gunfire, fled for their lives. Thus the exit of the marauding thugs was unchallenged.

The students with gunshot wounds were taken to the Health Centre and from there to the Teaching Hospital. Tunde Oke was still alive but died on the operating table. Four others, George Iwilade, Yemi Ajiteru, Efe Ekede and Eviano Ekelemu, were brought in dead. Eviano Ekelemu bled to death from gunshot wounds to the groin and thigh. The other three died from gunshot wounds to the head. In each case, the weapons used were shotguns, fired at close range. Charles Ita and five others who were shot in the Awolowo Hall cafeteria, survived. Twenty-five others received minor injuries, which were sustained during the stampede out of the Awolowo Hall cafeteria and later on during the attack.

In the aftermath of the attack, the whole university was enveloped in fear and there was chaos in the halls of residence. However, within a short time, the President of the Students’ Union, Lanre Adeleke, was able to restore order and mobilise his colleagues. The students went to the town searching for the perpetrators in locations where cult members were thought to be living. They “arrested” three individuals and brought them back to Awolowo Hall. These were Aisekhaghe Aikhile, a Part I student of Agricultural Economics, Emeka Ojuagu, and Frank Idahosa (Efosa). Efosa and Ojuagu were arrested in a public transport vehicle that was about to leave Ife.

The students exhibited black clothing, two berets and two T-shirts, that had been found in Ojuagu’s bag, which was claimed to be the uniform. Efosa was a known member of the . He had been expelled from the University of Benin and was later admitted for a diploma programme in Local Government Studies in Ife. The three of them were savagely beaten and tortured in the Awolowo Hall “Coffee Room”, the traditional venue for such events. The inverted commas have been employed because coffee had not been known to be served there for many years. Efosa and Oguagu are said to have confessed to participating in the attacks during their “interrogation”, and Efosa is said to have gone further to state that the attack was organised to avenge the humiliating treatment of the members who had been arrested in Mr. Mekoma’s house on 7 March.

In the course of the interrogation, Aisekhaghe Aikhile died, and his body was taken to the hospital mortuary. The interrogations also yielded the information that 22 members were involved, six from the University, four from the University of Lagos, four from the University of Ibadan, and eight from the University of Calabar. There was also a separate claim that more students from the University of Benin were also involved.

The VC, Professor Wale Omole, had been out of the country on 10 July 1999, the day of the attack and in his absence, the Deputy VC (Academic), Professor A.E. Akingbohungbe, was in charge. Soon after his arrival, the VC was summoned to Abuja to give a report of the incident the day after he returned to campus. On 14 July, his suspension was announced by the Government. It was against this background that I was tracked to the UK and summoned to return immediately and assume duty as the acting VC of the University.

When I arrived on the campus on 18 July, I promised the students and the rest of the university community, that the university would do everything in its power to bring the perpetrators to justice. I took this undertaking extremely seriously.

The first step was to visit the Commissioner of Police, Mr. J.C. Nwoye, in Osogbo. I raised the issue of the nine individuals who had been arrested in March and discharged by the Chief Magistrate. He promised that a vigorous and thorough investigation was in progress on the matter. He then expressed concern that the University authorities had not officially reported the murders to the Police despite repeated requests. On my return to the University, I wrote the required letter, once more indicating our strong fears concerning a connection between the March episode and the murders, and requesting that the nine individuals involved be re-arrested.

A total of 12 individuals were arrested and charged to court over the three weeks following the murders, including Efosa and Ojuagu. Only one of those involved in the March episode was among those arrested. The other eight could not be located. Two of them had obtained their transcripts and resumed their studies in France. The students brought information on the whereabouts of a major suspect, Babatunde Kazeem (Kato), and we provided a vehicle so that the Police could go with the students to the address in Lagos and arrest him. Kato was a former student who had been “advised to withdraw” from the University as a result of academic failure. He had been apprehended by the Students’ Union in August 1997 when he admitted to being a secret cult member. He was subsequently handed over to the Security Department, but there is no record of what happened after that. We also provided the Police with information on three other individuals, “Innocent”, “Yuletide” and “Ogbume.” Sadly, nothing came of this, even though we provided Ogbume’s address in Victoria Garden City, Lagos. The arrested persons were charged to the Ile-Ife Magistrate’s court for the murders.

The Judicial Commission of Enquiry was eventually inaugurated in Abuja on 18 October, but did not start work until 24 November, and eventually arrived in the University on Sunday, 28 November. The Chairman was Justice Okoi Itam. There were six other members, including Professor Jadesola Akande, an experienced and highly respected academic and university administrator, and Ray Ekpu, the journalist. Ms. Turi Akerele was later deployed as legal counsel to the Commission. A flamboyant but highly capable alumnus, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, led a team representing the students.

The Commission’s report was submitted in February 2000 and was released, along with the Government’s white paper, later that year. The Commission expressed its strong belief that seven named individuals had participated in the killings—Frank Idahosa (Efosa), Didi Yuletide, Kazeem Bello (Kato), and four individuals who were identified only by their nicknames or Christian names—Innocent, Athanasius, “Ochuko”, and “Chunk.” The last was identified as the then head of the secret cult. The Commission also recommended the investigation of 16 other individuals, including Emeka Oguaju and the nine involved in the 7 March episode. The Panel criticised the police investigation of the case and recommended that the Inspector-General of Police should set up a special task force to take it over. I have already mentioned the recommendations concerning the Chief Magistrate who hastily tried and acquitted the 7 March culprits, as well as Efosa’s lawyer.

It took me several months, and a number of visits to Abuja, to obtain the Commission’s report and the White Paper. Dissatisfied with the progress of the court cases, and armed with the report, I visited the Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige. After I had expressed my concerns over the case and highlighted the Commission’s recommendations concerning its investigation, he assured me that, although the case was being prosecuted by the Osun State Attorney-General’s office, his Ministry would work with that office. He sent for the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Musiliu Smith, who agreed that he would immediately establish the recommended special task force. This he did, and a senior police officer, ACP Tonye Ibitibituwa, soon arrived in Osogbo with a team. However, in spite of the efforts of this task force, no further arrests were made. We also liaised with the Osun State Attorney-General, who assured us that his office was seriously following up the case. I must say that he did personally prosecute the case.

As I have stated, the cases against those charged in the Chief Magistrate’s Court for belonging to an illegal organisation eventually came to nothing. However, we were very hopeful of a successful prosecution of the murder cases against Efosa and company. The case in the Osogbo High Court, which commenced on 9 April 2001, wound on. Evidence for the prosecution was taken from a number of students and some other witnesses. There was adjournment after adjournment. In mid-2002, the Judge hearing the case was transferred to Iwo, and the case along with it. There was a further delay while the exhibits were also subsequently taken to Iwo. To the amazement of everyone, the Judge upheld a “No Case” submission by the defence on 5 November 2002. The three accused persons were released and they subsequently disappeared…

Need I say more? You captured the event sir, thanks.

AbuMikey: On Iwilade George Afrika

Brother, please get your fact right. I was in year 3 at the time and I stayed in Medical Block, Awolowo Hall. OAU has NEVER been the headquarter of cult group and not even now. If you know OAU in and out, you could go to "Academics" ( few Kilometres from all the halls of residence), to read from night till dawn, and no one will molest you. There were pocket of cult activties among "wealthy" students who stayed in staff quarters. I tell you, these guys only operated outside the Ife campus.

That being said, what happened on July 10 is still a mystery and I guess it will remain so. Iwilade was not the strongest member of 1999/2000 SUG,Lanre "Legacy" was the arrow leader and has been actively involved in Ife politics. Lanre Legacy, was the PRO during Vakama's presidency and the duo never see eye-to-eye. Dont forget that Iwilade was a year 2 law student, who only became SUG's General Secretary and still very new in Ife's politics because year one students are inelligible. Though, Lanre Legacy escaped by whisker of luck and fate, however "Faro", who was also a member of SUG later indicted Legacy of complicity in the crisis. Maybe he knew what what we did not know?

Looking at the angle of the then VC Wale Omole, was because of his millitarisation of Ife campus, especially during the students' protests. Students hated him with a passion and he was also in a running battle with DSM (Political organisation that produced Tony Fash, Obesere, Legacy and others). Would he have sponsored cultists to kill these people? Well, it was possible, this is Nigeria.

There was another version that it was a just a revenge mission from those cultists earlier apprehended and maltreated on campus (maximul shishi at Awo Coffee's room). Well, Efosa (a member of a cult group from Ekpoma) was arrested, I never knew the outcome.

Whichever version you want to believe, me think that because of other issues in Ife then : cracks within SUG, DSM versus Pacesetter, Omole versus ASSUU, next VC election just around the corner, it wouldnt have been possible.

May God give their families the fortitude to bear the loss!

This is a reflection of a failed nation! In Nigeria, the ethos of multidisciplinary healthcare system is in shambles inflicted upon us by the people who inhabit various reverrred positions in health sector because of greed, arrogance and injustice. A man might be a cleaner, if he does his duty well and offers the portal of perfection to the most high, he is far better than a mr-know-it-all. No matter how angry we are because of the present scenarios, justice and goodwill will outlast passion. I have been privileged to live outside the country, in all my years of sojourning abroad, I have never witnessed this show of shame. In all these, we forget that the rot in public hospitals, we forget that Nigeria has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality, yet we are too quick to say" I am a surgeon," we should all bury our heads in shame. As a point departure, it is only a fool that will assume he knows everything, and he is more of a fool if he does not want to learn from others.
