President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), following the retirement of Haliru Nababa from the service, News360 Nigeria reports.

Haliru Nababa served as Comptroller General for three years and seven months.

He was appointed as Comptroller General by former President Muhammadu Buhari and his tenure would end on 15th of December.

Haliru was pulled out of the Service in a colourful ceremony on Friday.

According to a statement signed by Ahmed Ja’afaru, the Secretary of the Board of Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services, the appointment of Mr Nwakuche Ndidi takes effect from 15th December, 2024.

Nwakuche, born on 26th November, 1966, hails from Oguta in Imo State. Until his appointment, he was the Deputy Controller-General in charge of Training and Staff Development Directorate.

He is a fellow of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic, MFR.

Meanwhile the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has lauded the retiring Controller General, Nababa for his “visionary leadership, and a steadfast commitment to the transformative ideals of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS).”

Tunji Ojo who described Nababa tenure as exceptional at the pulling out parade said his stewardship witnessed significant “strides in advancing its core mandate of reforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates into the society in line with our government’s vision to ensure public safety while upholding the principles of justice.”

The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, commended Nababa on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and wished him a fulfilling and joyful retirement.

Nababa who in his valedictory address listed some of his achievements, commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister for the opportunity given him to serve the nation.

He said: ” The journey which began in the year 1990 when I enlisted into the then Nigerian Prisons Service, climaxed in the year 2021, on the 10th of May to be precise when I was appointed the Controller-General of the NCoS.

” Now, with profound gratitude to God Almighty, the journey has finally come to a happy end.

It has been quite a memorable experience for me and from inception, I knew that the responsibilities thrust on my shoulders were huge.

“Therefore, I adopted an all-inclusive management approach, constructively engaging relevant stakeholders either to build on the legacies of past leaders or design new strategies to address emerging challenges.

“I must say that the support and cooperation I received from my management team and field officers remained unwavering and qualitative. Thus, the Service was not only able to weather storms but significantly made progress in many fronts such as security, logistics, healthcare services, capacity building for staff, inmates’ welfare and training, staff promotion and a host of others.”

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, granted bail to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to the tune of N500 million with two sureties in the like sum, News360 Nigeria reports.

The court, in the ruling that was delivered by trial Justice Emeka Nwite, held that the sureties must be owners of landed properties in Abuja.

Aside from directing the sureties to tender the title documents of the properties, which must be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court, Justice Nwite equally ordered them to swear to an affidavit of means.

According to the court, both the defendant and the sureties must submit their recent passport photographs.

It further ordered the former governor to surrender his international passport and not travel outside the country without permission.

The court held that the defendant should remain at Kuje prison, pending the perfection of the bail conditions.

It subsequently slated February 24 and 28 for the commencement of a full-blown hearing into the 19-count money laundering charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against the defendant.

Bello, who piloted the affairs of Kogi state from 2016 to 2024, had before the ruling pleaded his innocence to his alleged complicity in an N80.2 billion fraud.

Specifically, the EFCC alleged that he used five proxies to acquire choice properties in highbrow areas of Abuja and Dubai.

Operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, were temporarily halted on Wednesday following an incident involving an Allied Air flight, News360 Nigeria reports.

The aircraft reportedly suffered a tyre burst upon landing, leading it to skid off the runway. The plane remains stuck near the runway, prompting the temporary closure of the airport to enable authorities to tow the aircraft and ensure safety.

A source at NAIA disclosed, “Efforts are ongoing to reopen the runway,” adding that the incident caused significant disruptions, with multiple flight departures delayed.

Despite the disruption, no injuries were reported among passengers. Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene to manage the situation.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), through its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, confirmed the incident and assured the public that measures are being taken to restore normalcy.

The statement read: “At 10:05am on December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja with five (5) souls on board with no reported injury.

“They were all safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for further checks. The Airport Emergency response team is on the scene along with accident investigators. The runway is being cleared and is expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible.

“We would like to thank the aviation community and the general public for their understanding and patience. We also request that all speculation be put on hold until the preliminary report is released by the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).”

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an alert regarding the recall of a specific batch of Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg Capsules, News360 Nigeria reports.

The affected batch, with lot number 4C639001, was manufactured by Ecomed Pharma Ltd and marketed by DevineKings Pharmaceutical Ltd. According to a report published on NAFDAC’s website and obtained by Vanguard, the recall follows reports of serious adverse drug reactions associated with the product.

NAFDAC has urged healthcare providers and members of the public to discontinue the use of the affected batch immediately and report any related issues to the agency for further investigation and action.

“According to Ecomed Pharma Ltd, reports of serious adverse drug reactions were received from a hospital that reported three cases of serious adverse drug reactions from patients administered with the batch of Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsule.”

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic indicated for treating bacterial infections such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, and bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, skin, or urinary tract.

NAFDAC explained that adverse reaction to drugs may be life-threatening, and may require hospitalisation or prolongation of existing hospitalization, result in persistent or significant disability or incapacity, or is a birth defect or death in fatal cases. The product details of the affected product are as follows.l: Name: MAH manufactured by Ecomed Pharmaceutical Ltd. Days of manufacturing is 03/2024, Expiry date: 02/2027 and batch number : 4C639001.

The Agency further implored distributors, healthcare providers, and patients to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid distribution, administration, and use of the affected lots of the product.

“All medical products must be obtained from authorized/licensed suppliers. The products’ authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked.

“Anyone in possession of the affected lot is advised to immediately discontinue the sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

“If you have used this product, or someone you know, has used it, or suffered any adverse reaction/event after use, are advised to seek immediate medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

“Healthcare professionals and consumers are advised to report any suspicion of substandard and falsified medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office, or call NAFDAC on 0800-162-3322 or via email: sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng

Human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has been denied bail and remanded in prison custody by a magistrate court, News360 Nigeria reports.

His case, involving a 16-count charge of alleged defamation against Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Afe Babalola, has been adjourned until December 20, 2024.

Farotimi arrived at the court premises at approximately 9:49 AM on Tuesday, December 10, escorted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad and the Nigeria Correctional Service.

The court proceedings, which captured significant public interest, ended with the decision to remand him until the next hearing.

Chief Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu, father of Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, has been crowned the traditional ruler of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, News360 Nigeria reports.

Ezeogo Nwankpu, renowned for his extensive household, married 30 wives, although some who were unable to bear children eventually left. Currently, he lives with 17 wives and has fathered 108 children.

The newly crowned king is a respected farmer and patriarch. Among his children, 21 have graduated from higher institutions, including Governor Francis Nwifuru, who is one of the children from his fourth wife.

The traditional ruler’s coronation has drawn attention to his unique family structure and his contributions to the community through farming and education.


To rule over 17 villages

Ezeogo Nwankpu is superintending over 17 villages after being decorated as the Chibugo 1 of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community caved out from Agbaja community in Izzi Local Government Area the governor.

The governor presented a certificate and staff of office to his father, Ezeogo Nwankpu, noting that it was done in line with the law establishing Ebonyi State Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Cap 146.

Speaming at the ceremony, Governor Nwifuru went into memory lane on how the family suffered dejection, intimidation and molestation in the hands of the villagers.

He said they killed his uncle in the village square, and later forcefully acquired their land.

According to him, the land in question is now the primary schools where the father’s coronation took place – Oferekpe Agbaja Primary School II.

He described his father as a hard-working man, noting that he got married to 30 wives, but some of them left because they could not bear any child in the family.

Governor Nwifuru said his father was once humiliated by his relatives, neighbourhoods, and the entire community as he was excelling above his equals due to his prospering farming business.

According to the governor, it was based on his villagers maltreatment or intimidation that isolated his father.

This led him into marrying many wives for companionship and helping hands in pursuit of his dreams as a wealthy farmer.

He described his father as a hospitable man, who loves his wives, children, relatives, and neighbours, adding that currently, 25 out of his children have become graduates.

The governor’s words: “My father is a loving father and husband, who take care of all his children and wives.

“All his wives and children work hard to train themselves in school and that is why we have 25 graduates in my family who struggled to train themselves with the efforts of their mothers.”

The governor advised his father as he ascended the royal stool, to be generous with his subjects, ensuring peace and unity in the community.

He charged his father to be just in discharging his duties as traditional ruler without being vindictive, but to reign in God’s direction and motivation.

The Chairman of the occasion and former Minister of Power, Chief Godwin Ogbaga, described the installation of Nwifuru Nwankpu as the traditional ruler of the community as most commendable considering his contributions to societal development, particularly in the Izhi clan.

Ogbaga said the credit for Ezeogo Nwankpu’s coronation goes to his son, who is currently the state governor.

He added that Governor Francis Nwifuru created an enabling environment for the exercise by signing into law the document creating the communities as demanded and approved.

The ceremony attracted who is who within and outside the state, including the former governors of the state, Dr. Sam, Chief Martin Elechi and Senator David Umahi.

Others include the three senators and six House of Reps representing the state at National Assembly.

The state executives council members, local government chairmen, coordinators and other government appointees, among others, were also im attendance.

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has reiterated his firm stance against domestic violence, declaring that he has instructed his daughters to retaliate if their husbands ever slap them, News360 Nigeria reports.

Speaking on Monday at the National Dialogue Conference on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention, held at Bayero University Kano, Sanusi underscored the importance of women defending themselves against abuse. The event, themed “Islamic Teachings and Community Collaboration for Ending Gender-Based Violence,” was organized by the Centre for Islamic Civilization and Interfaith Dialogue (CICID) in collaboration with the Development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC), with support from the Ford Foundation.

Sanusi revealed that he consistently advises his daughters before marriage not to report cases of being slapped by their husbands unless they have taken steps to defend themselves.

Highlighting alarming statistics, Sanusi noted that 45% of cases across nine Shariah courts in Kano over the past five years pertain to domestic violence, with women suffering severe injuries such as broken limbs and lost teeth due to spousal abuse. His research into family law further underscores the prevalence of domestic violence in many homes.

He said: “You can interpret certain verses to justify light beating, but in reality, no one adheres to the rules of restraint. What we witness are cases of severe violence where women are beaten, punched, and kicked. My research in Kano’s Shariah courts revealed that not one case involved ‘light beating.’ Instead, women suffered extreme harm, including broken bones and teeth.”

The Emir emphasized that any form of domestic violence, including beating, is explicitly prohibited in Isla.

“Beating your wife, daughter, or any woman is haram (forbidden). Violence against another human being violates their basic dignity. We must teach our daughters not to tolerate it and educate our sons that it is unacceptable.”

He added, “If my daughters are ever slapped by their husbands, they know I expect them to slap back. I did not send my daughters to be abused. If you dislike her, send her back to me, but do not raise your hand against her.”

Earlier, Dr. Hassan Karofi, Director of Partnerships and Strategic Communications, outlined the goals of the conference. The event aimed to use Islamic teachings to advocate for the prevention of GBV in Northern Nigeria through the Muslim Opinion Leaders for Gender-Based Violence Prevention Project (MOLS4GBV).

Karofi explained: “This initiative leverages the influence of religious leaders to challenge harmful cultural norms and promote justice and protection for women. By aligning Islamic principles with modern GBV prevention strategies, the conference seeks to foster dialogue and actionable solutions among faith-based organizations, youth groups, traditional leaders, and government bodies.”

The event, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, emphasized justice, dignity, and the safeguarding of women as central tenets of Islamic teachings.

Thugs stormed the Edo State High Court in Benin on Monday, attempting to disrupt the pre-hearing session on the validity of the September 21 governorship election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), News360 Nigeria reports.

The attack occurred as supporters of seven political parties challenging the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) victory gathered at the court. Unidentified individuals launched the assault outside the courtroom, creating panic among attendees.

In a swift response, security agents secured the court premises, blocking the entrance and setting up roadblocks along routes leading to the court to prevent further disruption.

The governorship election case has sparked heightened tensions, with various political factions contesting the results. The court proceedings continue under tight security as stakeholders await the final ruling.

The police on Friday slammed fresh counts of criminal defamation against activist Dele Farotimi, accusing him of holding a press conference online in which he detailed a budding plot to arrest him.

The police said the December 2, 2024, press briefing on YouTube constituted an attempt to bully and defame Afe Babalola, a nonagenarian lawyer on whose behest Mr Farotimi was arrested on Tuesday and remanded in prison following an initial arrangement Wednesday.

The charges marked the latest escalation in an already fraught case that has fuelled division within legal circles across the country and appeared to show Mr Babalola was unwilling to backpedalled on a turn that many saw as potentially damaging to his legacy, especially for its brazen assault on free speech.

Mr Farotimi had used the press conference to detail how Mr Babalola was coming after him over his book that hit stores in July 2024, in which he narrated how Mr Babalola, a senior lawyer of immense political and business influence, perfected the art of judicial banditry that spanned decades.

Mr Babalola denied all allegations of bribing judges to procure favourable judgements, as well as all charges of corruption against his person or establishments.

But his decision to involve the police, who have a history of being used by the powerful against everyday citizens, often after financial or material inducement, was what elicited the most scorn from Nigerians, who saw the 95-year-old’s action as barbaric and promptly intensified pressure at home and abroad to get him to back down on his pursuit of Mr Farotimi.

Mr Farotimi was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday and transported to Ekiti hours later. The police unveiled 16 counts of criminal defamation against him before a judge on Wednesday, and the matter was adjourned for a bail hearing on December 6.

On Friday, News360 Nigeria received court documents from the police in which they levelled 13 fresh charges against Mr Farotimi, accusing him, among others, of disparaging Mr Babalola during an appearance on a podcast by journalist Seun Okinbaloye and on his own YouTube channel.

The criminal complaint, marked FHC/AD/CR/104/2024, was addressed to Mr Farotimi, but it was unclear whether or not he had been served as of Friday afternoon.

Atsi Kefas, the sister of Agbu Kefas, the governor of Taraba state, has reportedly been shot by a police escort during an attack by gunmen on Thursday, News360 Nigeria reports.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, Jumai, the governor’s mother and Atsi were driving along Kente road in Wukari LGA of Taraba state when they were attacked.

The publication stated that a police officer assigned to escort the family “accidentally shot Atsi” while attempting to fend off the assailants.

Following the attack, troops rescued the victims and evacuated both Jumai and Atsi Kefas from the scene with the use of an air ambulance.

The injured sister was rushed to the hospital for treatment and her condition remains undisclosed at the time of this report.

The vehicle used by the gunmen was recovered by the security force including an empty magazine and luggage of the passengers were found in the vehicle.

Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, and over 100 passengers narrowly escaped a tragic incident when a Max Air aircraft experienced an engine fire shortly after takeoff from Maiduguri International Airport, News360 Nigeria reports.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday when the aircraft, en route to Abuja, suffered engine failure caused by a bird strike about 10 minutes into the flight. The pilot and crew managed to execute an emergency landing back at Maiduguri Airport, averting disaster.

A Max Air staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident on Thursday morning.

The staff member explained: “Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft struck a bird mid-air, which caused one of the engines to catch fire. The pilot acted swiftly to ensure the safety of all passengers.”

Following the emergency landing, passengers were reportedly in a state of panic, with many opting to collect their luggage and return home rather than board another flight. However, Max Air management promptly arranged for another aircraft from Kano to transport resilient passengers, including the Deputy Governor, safely to Abuja.

The ill-fated aircraft remains grounded at Maiduguri International Airport, undergoing extensive repairs. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.

The airport authorities have reassured passengers of their commitment to safety and thanked the crew for their professionalism in managing the situation.

Police at Force Headquarters, yesterday, disclosed that forensic intelligence and investigation into an alleged smuggling scandal of new bank notes totalling N74.95 million, which was being moved on behalf of clients, has revealed that some officers attempted to steal N43.16 million of the money, News360 Nigeria reports.

Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, who made this clarification against the backdrop of social media allegations that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was shielding a cartel of currency smugglers, noted: “This group of officers conspired and stole part of the money, amounting to N43.16 million, and tasked one of them to move the cash out of the Federal Capital Territory for hiding, pending when the heat blows over.”

He said the allegation of currency smuggling was thoroughly investigated, the Police officers found to have acted illegally by intercepting the cash and detaining an employee of the company which owned the money without authorisation.

Adejobi’s statement reads, “The Nigeria Police Force has noted with concern the recent allegations circulating in the media, suggesting that IGP Egbetokun, is shielding a cartel accused of smuggling suspicious new banknotes from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“The NPF categorically refutes these claims, condemning them as baseless and orchestrated attempts to tarnish the IGP’s reputation and the integrity of the force.

‘The incident in question, which occurred at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 26, 2023, has been thoroughly investigated.

“The officers involved – DSP Peter Ejike (a lawyer in charge of Zone 7 Legal Section), Inspector Ekende Edwin, Inspector Esther Okafor, and Sergeant Talabi Kayode, all attached to the Zone 7 Headquarters were found culpable and sanctioned appropriately.

“These officers, led by Inspector Esther Okafor, on the instruction of DSP Peter Ejike, unlawfully arrested Andrew Ejah, an employee of FATFAD Cargo Nigeria Limited, who was conveying the cash sum of N7.95million on behalf of clients.

“Acting without authorization, they detained Mr. Ejah at the Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, and deliberately misrepresented the recovered amount as N31.79 million.

‘The officers further demanded a percentage of the funds to suppress the case.

“Upon being contacted by the alleged owners of the money, the officers claimed that the sum they had recovered from the arrested suspect was N31,790,000 and requested a percentage of the money to jeopardise investigation and suppress the case.

“Outraged by their actions, the money owners petitioned the Force Headquarters, Abuja and the matter was directed to the IGP Monitoring Unit for Investigation.

“During the process, the cash sum of N31.79million was recovered from the officers, who claimed that it was the total money recovered from Andrew Ejah during his arrest.

“After intense investigations and a series of trial before duly constituted disciplinary panels, it was discovered that the officers took photographs of the suspect and the sacks of monies at the point of arrest but claimed the phone they used was damaged and subsequently lost, in an attempt to conceal their misconduct.

“However, forensic intelligence showed that this group of officers conspired and stole part of the money, amounting to N43.16million, and tasked one of them to move the cash out of the FCT for hiding pending when the heat blows over.

“They, thereafter, resorted to several tricks and gimmicks in order to cover their tracks. One of which was the spread of this false narrative and misinformation to several online blogs and newspaper platforms.

“These officers have been suspended, being found culpable of serious misconduct, tampering with exhibits, abuse of office, corrupt practice, illegal duty, and acts unbecoming of a police officer.

“The movement of such an amount of money by the alleged cargo company could have been investigated and handled professionally by the police, but the officers were carried away by greed and therefore acted criminally and unprofessionally.”

Ms. Grace Ike of Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN) has emerged as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council forty three years after its establishment, News360 Nigeria reports.

Grace was elected and sworn in on Wednesday alongside four other executive members: Mr. Yahaya Ndambabo of Voice of Nigeria (VON), as Vice Chairman, Comrade Jide Oyekunle of Independent Newspaper as Secretary of the Council and Sandra Udeike of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) as Treasurer.

The election, which was unopposed, was conducted by the officials from the National Secretariat of the NUJ under tight security with a massive turn out of journalists from various media organizations and Chapels operating in the Federal Capital Territory  (FCT).

The newly elected officials will pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years in the FCT while the vacant positions will be filled  through a by-election.

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate court on Wednesday remanded a Lagos based human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi over an alleged case of defamation against Aare Afe Babalola SAN the founder of Afe Babalola University, News360 Nigeria reports.

Farotimi, who was arrested at his chamber in Lagos on Tuesday by officers from Ekiti State Police Command, was arraigned for allegedly publishing a book “Nigeria and it’s Criminal Justice System where he alleged that Aare Afe Babalola corrupted the Judiciary and procured judgements in the supreme court there by exposing him to hatred, contempt, ridicule and damage his hard earn career.

The suspect Dele Farotimi pleaded not guilty to all the sixteen count charge.

Police prosecutor, Samson Osun called for the remand of the suspect in prison custody pending further investigation and it’s outcome for the maintenance of security in the country.

Counsel to the defendant, Dayo Akeredolu opposed the remand call and pleaded with the court to admit the defendant to bail on very liberal terms and on self recognisance because the case at hand is bailable and the suspect is a known figure who is not constituting any threat .

He said the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun remanded the suspect in prison custody and adjourned hearing till December 10.

A Nigerian pastor whose church was shut down over an alleged £1.87 million fraud has lost his fight against deportation, despite claiming it would breach his human rights, News360 Nigeria reports.

An immigration tribunal has ruled that Tobi Adegboyega, 44, the cousin of John Boyega, the Star Wars actor, should be deported back to his native Nigeria after investigations, including by The Telegraph, exposed misuse of funds by his church.

Mr Adegboyega was head of SPAC Nation, a controversial church shut down after failing to properly account for more than £1.87 million of outgoings and operating with a lack of transparency.

He claimed deportation would breach his right under the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) to a family life – having married a British woman. He also said the attempt to remove him by the Home Office failed to take account of his community work with SPAC.

Describing a “charismatic” community leader of a large, well-organised church, his legal team claimed that he had “intervened in the lives of many hundreds of young people, predominantly from the black communities in London, to lead them away from trouble”.

He claimed his work had been “lauded” by politicians including Boris Johnson and senior figures within the Metropolitan Police, although no testimony by them was submitted to the court. He said that without his personal presence in London, projects that he had masterminded would fall apart or reduce in size.

However, the tribunal was told the Home Office contended “all is not as it seems”.

“Various manifestations of [Mr Adegboyega’s] church have been closed down, by either the Charity Commission or the High Court, because of concerns over its finances and lack of transparency,” according to the judgment.

‘Selling their own blood’

“Former members of the church have alleged that it is a cult, in which impoverished young people are encouraged to do anything they can to donate money, including taking out large loans, committing benefit fraud and even selling their own blood.

“It is alleged that the church leadership lead lavish lifestyles and there have, it is said, been instances of abuse. The [Home Office’s] case before us was that all of this needs to be taken into account when evaluating whether [Mr Adegboyega] is in fact of real value to the UK.”

Mr Adegboyega has lived in the UK unlawfully since overstaying on a visitor’s visa that allowed him to enter Britain in 2005. In 2019, he applied for leave to remain under ECHR’s right to a family life. His application was initially dismissed by a first-tier immigration tribunal before he appealed.

In the tribunal, he maintained no one had ever faced criminal charges over his church’s finances, that many of the attacks on him and SPAC Nation were politically motivated and that claims it was a cult were unfounded.

However, the tribunal was told the Charity Commission concluded “there had been serious misconduct and/or mismanagement in the administration of the charity which was sustained over a substantial period of time”.

The tribunal also found Mr Adegboyega’s evidence to be “hyperbolic in many instances” and had “sought to grossly inflate his influence”. “We find it to be implausible that he has the time to undertake all of this work personally,” it said.

The tribunal concluded: “We are not satisfied that the good work that SPAC Nation undertakes generally would collapse or even significantly suffer should the Appellant be required to leave the UK.

“Weighing all of the foregoing in the balance we conclude that the decision to refuse leave to remain was wholly proportionate.

“[Mr Adegboyega] seeks to rely on family and private life relationships, all of which have been established whilst he was in the UK unlawfully, and which would survive his return to Nigeria.

“The interference would therefore be limited, and lawful in all the circumstances.”

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Bolaji Idowu, founder of the Harvesters International Christian Centre, for alleged involvement in real estate fraud and money laundering.

Sources revealed that Idowu is currently being interrogated at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja. The investigation follows accusations related to financial misconduct.

Idowu, who founded the church in 2003, is a prominent figure known for his work in ministry and community outreach. Details of the allegations and ongoing investigation are still emerging.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a viral video purportedly showing uniformed officers scooping fuel from an overturned tanker, clarifying that the individuals involved are not members of the NPF, News360 Nigeria reports.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu accompanied by France President, Emmanuel Macron inspected the Republican Guard of Honour upon the commencement of his state visit to France on Thursday.

The ceremonial inspection took place at the Foyer of the National Des Invalides – A Military Museum for a military parade in honour of visiting President of Nigeria as part of Tinubu’s three-day state visit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.


The President’s arrival was marked by a display of military precision and pageantry, symbolizing the strong diplomatic ties between Nigeria and France.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has produced the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Maitama for arraignment, News360 Nigeria reports.

Bello is billed to enter his plea to a 16-count charge ordering on his alleged complicity in a N110billion fraud.

The erstwhile governor’s whereabouts remained unknown till yesterday when he surrendered himself after a protracted hide-and-seek game between him and the anti-graft agency.

Dressed in white caftan and blue cap, was marshalled into the court premises by armed operatives of the EFCC before 9am, for his arraignment.

He will be docked before trial Justice Maryann Anenih, alongside his two co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.

The charge against the defendants, marked: CR/7781, borders on conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and possession of unlawfully obtained property.

Specifically, the EFCC alleged that the former governor misused state funds to acquire properties, including No. 35 Danube Street, Maitama District, Abuja (N950 million), No. 1160 Cadastral Zone C03, Gwarimpa II District, Abuja (N100 million), and No. 2 Justice Chukwudifu Oputa Street, Asokoro, Abuja (N920 million).

Other properties the defendants allegedly acquired with funds stolen from the Kogi state treasury, included Block D Manzini Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja (N170 million), Hotel Apartment Community: Burj Khalifa, Dubai (Five Million, Six Hundred and Ninety-Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Eight Dirhams), Block 18, Gwelo Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja (N60 million), and No. 9 Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja (N310.4 million).

More so, the defendants were accused of transferring $570,330 and $556,265 to TD Bank, USA, and possessing unlawfully obtained property, including N677.8 million from Bespoque Business Solution Limited.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has said he’s hale and hearty even though some people want him to die, News360 Nigeria reports.

Speaking in Osogbo during the inauguration of the Old-Garage/Oke-Fia Road reconstructed by Governor Ademola Adeleke, Obasanjo said those who wanted him dead were spreading rumour of his death in the social media.

He said “I heard the rumour that I was dead. I saw it in the social media. I quickly told my children and my relations that it was not true and that I’m alive. Those that want me dead, that is their wish but God still keeps me alive.”

Obasanjo lauded Adeleke for his performance in Osun and charged the governor to keep up the work.

“I have redirected our efforts and plan at the completion of Iwo-Osogbo road. We have added the dualisation of Odoori – Adeeke Road inside Iwo to be executed in two phases. The first phase will reach Post -Office and Oluwo Palace while the second phase will take off from Post Office to Adeeke Junction.

“I want our people to note for the record that for all our projects and programmes, we did not obtain any loan. We only block leakages in the state finance and employ local content to moderate project cost and enforce high standards.

“For the second half of our government, I reassure all sons and daughters of Osun State that the government under my leadership will complete all ongoing projects. We will continue to address the infra and social needs of our people. We will strike a balance between hard and soft infrastructure.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the detention of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello over allegations of misappropriation of funds, News360 Nigeria reports.


Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, disclosed to journalists on Tuesday that Bello was arrested at the commission’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, by a team of operatives.

“Yes, he (Yahaya Bello) was arrested today around 12:54 PM, together with three of his lawyers. He is having a session with our investigators and is now in our custody,” Oyewale said, confirming the development.

The former governor, who arrived at the EFCC office with his legal team earlier in the day, had been declared wanted by the commission on April 18, 2024, in connection with an alleged N80.2 billion money laundering case.


Sources indicate that Bello is being held for further investigation following his alleged failure to honor previous invitations. His co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, were earlier granted administrative bail, while the EFCC sought an extension for Bello’s court summons during a November 14 hearing.

Bello is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, marking a significant step in the ongoing investigation.
