A 28-year-old woman, Chidinma Amaechi, has given birth to quintuplets in Awka, the Anambra State capital, after about nine years of marriage.

Olive News Nigeria gathered that the quintuplets, three boys and two girls, were delivered through caesarian section on Thursday night.

Chidinma, who finished her National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in July 2022, is married to Tochukwu Amaechi, an Onitsha-based petty trader.

Meanwhile, Chidinma has appealed to the government and other citizens to assist her to offset the over N7.5 million hospital bill.

An elder sister to Chidinma, Ebele Oranekwu, said the bill for the incubators is N250,000 per day.

She added that the babies, who are currently in the intensive care unit of the hospital, are expected to be there for about 30 days.

She said, “This bill amounted to about N7.5 million aside other huge bills already accumulated in the past two months of managing the delicate pregnancy at the hospital.

“We are therefore calling on philanthropists, governments, and non-governmental organisations to come to our aid to enable us to offset the huge medical bills so we can reap the full benefits of God’s blessings upon our family,” Oranekwu said.

The leadership of the Labour Party has denounced the purported suspension of the party’s national Chairman, Julius Abure by the executive members of his ward in Edo state.

In a statement signed its National Secretary of the party, Mallam Farouk Umar, LP said said the allegations made agains Abure are untrue and concocted.

LP said that only the National Convention that can suspend the national chairman and this must be through a convention called for the purpose of the suspension.

The statement reads “The attention of the Leadership of the Labour Party was drawn to the Press Conference held today Friday, 31st March 2023 by some unknown faces assembled in one room in Abuja wherein they pronounced a suspension on our National Chairman, Barrister Julius
Abure.

“They also made some spurious allegations against him which is untrue and concocted by the sponsors of the Press Conference. We however deemed it fit to make some responses.

“Again, our Party Constitution is clear on who can suspend and who cannot suspend the National Chairman. They should go and read the party constitution which very clear and unambiguous. It is only the National Convention that can suspend the National chairman of the Labour Party. It also must be through such a convention called for the purpose of the suspension of the National Chairman.

“We think that the sudden suspension was an after thought of some opposition parties purely to distract the leadership of the Labour Party at this time.

“There is no reasonable party member at this point in time who will be thinking of such thing when we are pursuing our presIdental mandate in the court and all other mandates including the governorship. Senate and House of Representatives that were brazenly stolen.

“Who Will be contemplating the suspension of any national party official at this

Following the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum given to the famous singer, Habeeb Okikiola, commonly called Portable, to turn himself in, the Ogun State police command has arrested the singer for refusing to honour the invitation.

Early on Tuesday, two videos of the musician raining curses and rough-handling some men of the Nigeria police surfaced on the internet.

Displeased by the conduct of Mr Okikiola toward the officers, the police gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the singer, a request that should elapse today, Friday.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has told the governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida, that he is still in charge.

The governor said this while reacting to a public warning earlier issued by Yusuf.

The governor-elect had asked people to stay off public buildings and to avoid constructing anything on government lands, schools and other public places.

But speaking through the commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, Ganduje asked Yusuf to desist from making official pronouncements in order to avoid confusion.

He said, “The action of the governor-elect amounts to jumping the gun by issuing directive on a matter affecting government laid down policy while the incumbent is yet to run his full term.”

Ganduje added that he remains the governor with executive powers until May 29 and reserves the right to carry out his functions in public interest, even on the eve of his exit.

“Until he subscribes to the oath of office as governor on May 29, he remains what he is, a governor-elect, and does not have the powers of the governor. All he can do is to reverse some of the actions taken by his predecessor when he assumes office, if there is a valid reason to do so. No governor-elect has the constitutional or legal powers to determine the direction of a state until he is sworn in,” the statement added.

He added that as governor, he wields enormous powers to allocate plots of land, emphasising that every government had undertaken such exercise, including the previous administration which the governor-elect served under.

He also stated that based on available records, the previous administration has made land allocation in some of the public places the governor-elect categorically mentioned which include the city wall, with allocation of land from Kofar Nassarawa to Kofar Mata; shops at the Kofar Mata Eid Prayer Ground facing the Orion Cinema and from Kofar Mata to ‘Yan yashi opposite the Eid Ground and from Kofar Kabuga to Kofar Famfo facing the old Campus of Bayero University.

Ahead of the March 11 elections, the Labour Party in Rivers State has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Sim Fubura, for governor.

The state Chairman of the Labour Party, Deinye Pepple, stated this at a news briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, saying Fubara’s senatorial district had yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state.

Victor Osimhen, Nigerian international and Napoli forward has expressed interest in moving to the English Premier League next season.

The Seria A top scorer who was in Rome to collect the award for the Foreign Athlete of the Year in Italy from the Foreign Press Association, said he wanted to deliver a league title to Napoli fans but was also looking further ahead.

“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and strongest league,” said the 24-year-old.

“I’m in one of the best leagues of the world, which is the Italian Serie A.

A pre-election opinion poll commissioned by Anap Foundation, a non-profit organisation, and conducted by NOI Polls, has predicted that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, will win the March 11 election.

The poll results showed that Sanwo-Olu was ahead among the three leading candidates in the state.

The two other candidates are Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdul-Azeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The results of the poll, which was conducted in February before the presidential election, were released on Monday.

The poll results showed that 31 percent of the voters surveyed said they would vote for Sanwo-Olu, while 8 percent preferred Rhodes-Vivour and Adediran, also known as Jandor, got 7 percent.

“The results showed a significant lead for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with 31% of voters proposing to vote for him if the governorship election were to be conducted today; 8% proposing to vote for Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (LP) who fell in second place and Azeez Olajide Adediran ‘Jandor’ (PDP) was third with 7% of voters proposing to vote for him,” the poll reads.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu’s 23%-point lead at this stage is significant, as the opposition voters are fragmented and shared between 2 main challengers in the ratio 31:8:7.”

The NOI poll also predicted that Siminalayi Fubara, PDP governorship candidate in Rivers, will win the March 11 election in the state.

The poll results show that Fubara is having a significant lead with 20 percent of voters who preferred to vote for him during the election.

Magnus Abe of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), came second with 12 percent, Tonye Cole of the APC scored 10 percent, and Dumo Owukori Lulu-Briggs of the Accord Party had 6 percent.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disbursed N114.17bn to beneficiaries of its 100-for-100 Policy on Production and Productivity since the commencement of the intervention.

Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, disclosed this in a communiqué issued by after the last Monetary Policy Committee meeting held in Abuja.

According to Emefiele, the funds were expended on 71 projects across healthcare, manufacturing and agriculture sectors.

He stated, “Furthermore, under the 100 for 100 Policy on Production and Productivity, the Bank has disbursed the sum of N20.78 billion to nine projects in healthcare, manufacturing, and services.

“This brings the cumulative disbursements under the facility to N114.17 billion to 71 projects across healthcare, manufacturing, services and agriculture,” he added.

The CBN programme, launched in January 2022, is for a select 100 private sector companies with projects that have the potential to significantly increase domestic production and productivity, reduce imports, increase non-oil exports, and overall improvements in the foreign exchange generating capacity of the Nigerian economy.

According to the guidelines for the implementation of the initiative, the CBN fixed the maximum loan amount that a participant could get at N5bn.

“The initiative, which shall be bank-led, will be rolled over every 100 days (that is, quarterly) with a new set of companies selected for financing under the initiative,” it stated.

Meanwhile, the apex bank, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, said the initiative would be implemented with a focus on micro- and macro-economic impacts, including the creation of sustainable jobs, the development of local content, production output, capacity utilisation and integration into global value chains.

It states, “Loan amount shall be a maximum of N5bn per obligor. Any amount above N5bn shall require the special approval of CBN’s management.”

According to the guidelines, the broad objective of the initiative is to reverse the nation’s over-reliance on imports, by creating an ecosystem that targets and supports the right projects with the potential to transform and catalyse the productive base of the economy.

The CBN, while highlighting the specific objectives of the initiative, said it was designed to catalyse import substitution of targeted commodities, increase local production and productivity, increase non-oil exports, and improve the foreign exchange-earning capacity of the economy.

It said key activities covered under the initiative would be existing businesses and projects (brownfield) with the potential to immediately transform and catalyse the productive base of the economy, and new projects (greenfield) with equal potential may be considered under the initiative, subject to CBN management’s approval.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, president-elect of Nigeria, has described the certificate of return presented to him by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a “World Cup” trophy.

Tinubu spoke during a visit to the palace of Rilwan Akinolu, oba of Lagos, on Sunday.

Last week, INEC announced Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the presidential election conducted on February 25.

Speaking at the palace, Tinubu promised not to disappoint Nigerians.

“To all the monarchies seated, may God provide you with strong health for you. God will not allow our country to perish. We will not be used as a tool to disgrace you. I will not let you down,” he said.

“The journey that we embarked upon and we have returned home with a certificate — it is like our own World Cup — and I thank you all for the effort.”

Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-political group, says the result of the presidential poll is nothing but a “sham”.

The elder statesman also reprimanded the critics of former President Olusegun Obasanjo following his letter calling for a review of the election.

Last week, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the presidential election.

Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had the second-highest figure with 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) was next with 6,101,533.

In an interview with Arise TV, Adebanjo said the outcome of the election is “just the result of a bad government; a disaster that God will help us to get rid of”.

He faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct, adding that the commission needs to answer certain questions raised by Nigerians.

“I can assure you there is no president-elect at all,” he said.

“This is just a sham which will be pulled in due course. This is a game we all see, we’re all living witnesses to see.

”Why don’t you follow the law for the election, that would just be peaceful. Those who are criticising, they leave the issue, they take up on OBJ, it is the message that the man says you have not done ABC, reply to that. You pick on the messenger.

“On this occasion now, it is not a question of whether you win or not, but is it the method the law provides for the election, have you followed it? Let them answer that, that’s the problem, why are you beating about the bush?”

The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned judgement in the new naira policy suit to March 3, 2023.

The court, which heard the case on Wednesday, was filled to capacity with a retinue of Senior Advocates of Nigeria and other lawyers.

The Court had temporarily banned the implementation of the February 10 deadline of the CBN from making the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes legal tender.

The Zamfara, Kogi and Kaduna states had instituted the suit against the Federal Government and the CBN.

Other states, namely Niger, Kano, Ondo, Ekiti, had also applied to be joined in the suit against the CBN and the Federal Government.

Lagos State, through its Attorney General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, also applied, seeking to be joined in the suit.

Bayelsa State, led by Damian Dodo, had also applied to be joined in the suit as a respondent. Similarly, Edo State applied to be joined as a respondent.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to Ali Bello, nephew to Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi who is standing trial for alleged N3bn fraud.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, the presiding judge, in his ruling on the bail application on Monday, held that the offenses against Bello and his co-defendants are bailable.

He said bail would enable the defendants to adequately prepare for their trial.

The defendants were admitted to bail in the sum of N500 million each with two sureties in like sum.

The judge ruled that the sureties must reside in Abuja, with identifiable addresses, and own landed properties worth N500 million within the jurisdiction of the court.

He said the original title documents of the properties must be deposited with the registrar of the court, as well as evidence of tax payment for three years between 2020 to 2022.

The defendants are also to deposit their international passports with the court and can only travel after due permission from the court.

The matter has been adjourned to April 16 for the commencement of trial.

The EFCC, on February 8, arraigned Bello alongside Abba Adauda, Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, and Iyada Sadat for allegedly misappropriating N3,081,804,654.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the 18-count charge “bordering on criminal misappropriation and money laundering”.

They were remanded in prison pending when the bail application is moved.

Rashida, Yahaya Bello’s wife, was also mentioned in the charge.

The Afenifere National Youth Council has promised to mobilise five million votes for Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

The council vowed to support Obi to become the President in the February 25 election.

The National President of the council, Eniola Ojajuni, on Sunday, said this in Lagos.

Ojajuni disclosed that Obi had support of the group because of his records while he was governor of Anambra State.

He said one of the topnotch plans was the restructuring of Nigeria, believing that the poll will be free and fair.

“We are here to endorse the candidate of the LP, Obi officially as the sole candidate for the Southwest youth wing. It took us almost three months to reach the conclusions amongst 147 youth groups in Yoruba land, and today, we officially announced Obi and his running mate, Ahmed Datti, as our sole candidate for the presidential election on Saturday.

“Before we endorsed him, Obi assured us that the first thing he would do is to restructure the country.”

“We believe that the election will hold, and it will be free and fair and the youths in the SW are ready to vote obi. Our target is to give him five million votes.”

He implored Yoruba residents across the country to elect Obi, noting it is time for the South-East to become the president.

“The reason we endorsed Obi is because the Yoruba has had his shot in the presidency through former President Olusegun Obasanjo, likewise former President Goodluck Jonathan who is from the South South. Our current president Muhammadu Buhari is from the North. It’s the turn of the Southeast to produce the presidency, for equity and justice,” he said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has demanded the arrest of the publisher of a website that published a report about operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raiding the house of Bola Tinubu, its presidential candidate.

The report, which the PCC has dismissed, claimed that N400bn was recovered when operatives of EFCC raided Tinubu’s home.

The news gained traction on social media before it was refuted by the anti-corruption agency on Sunday.

The APC PCC rebuttal came after the EFCC also denied carrying out any raid on the residence of the former Lagos State governor.

Denying the reports in a tweet via its Twitter handle, the spokesperson for the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, urged Nigerians to disregard the reports as fake news.

A statement signed by the Director of PCC Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, also noted that the campaign council had discovered that “the rogue website” was set up to disseminate false and malicious information against his principal.

Onanuga frowned on the story, which he said lacked the essential of “when, where and how” which make up the ingredients of any news story.

Applauding the EFCC for promptly dissociating itself from the fake story by issuing a formal statement on the purported raid by its men, the former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria urged security agencies in the country to go after the owners.

He said, “We urge the authorities to fish out the people behind the site that is recklessly dishing out fake news before more damage is done to our polity. We want to warn Nigerians to be wary of every piece of news emanating from the site, and its social media handles.

“There will be many of such sites as some candidates become desperate to win at all costs, in fulfilment of some rogue and rigged opinion polls, shunning all decent norms and rules.

“The dubious website, in its fake story, claimed investigations are still ongoing as to which bank manager made such money available to Tinubu, it then admitted its own absurdity when it wrote that ‘the money recovered in Tinubu’s underground house’ is equivalent of ‘the entire money printed for the whole Nigeria’ by the CBN.

“So, if Tinubu alone has all the money printed by Godwin Emefiele’s CBN, how do you account for the billions distributed by the apex bank to all the banks, including operators of PoS? The site, which, on Twitter and Facebook, appears to have links with the Labour Party, went further, in another post, to claim that President Muhammadu had ordered the arrest of the bank manager that made the phantom money available to the APC candidate.”

On Tuesday, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court extended the order restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from suspending or expelling Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers from the party.

Justice James Omotosho gave the directive after the governor’s lawyer, Joshua Musa, and the PDP’s attorney, Johnson Usman, agreed on March 6 to argue their case.

Mr Omotosho had, on February 2, given a restraining order against the party and others listed in the face of Mr Wike’s motion dated February 2.

Others joined in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/139/2023 include its National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), national chairman of PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, national secretary of PDP, Samuel Anyanwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as first to sixth respondents, respectively.

The governor is praying for an order directing all parties to maintain the status quo and stay all actions relating to the threat to suspend or expel him by the first to fifth respondents, pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.

Mr Wike also asked for an order of the court granting him leave to serve the motion on notice, originating motion and all other court processes in the suit on the first to fifth respondents by substituted means by pasting all the said processes at the PDP national Secretariat.

After hearing Mr Wike’s lawyer, the judge granted all the reliefs sought.

“All parties in this suit shall maintain peace and shall not take any action or step or act that may make the outcome of the motion on notice dated and filed on 2nd February 2023 nugatory and worthless,” the judge stated. “That any act or step or action made so as to make the outcome of the motion on notice dated and filed on 2nd February 2023, nugatory shall be a nullity.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is fully with Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), encouraging Nigerians to ignore claims that he’s not fully backing the former Lagos governor.

Buhari stated this while addressing supporters during the APC presidential campaign at the Pantami stadium, Gombe, on Monday.

The president appealed to residents of Gombe state to vote for Tinubu and other candidates of the party.

He urged them to ignore alleged propaganda about his support for another candidate.

The Director-General of APC presidential campaign council and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, disclosed that the president was represented by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami, at the event.

Buhari assured that Tinubu’s presidency would provide more dividends of democracy for Nigerians.

According to Buhari, his regime has approved over 65 per cent of projects in Gombe State, adding that Tinubu would ensure the gainful exploration of the Kolmani oil field in the state.

He said, “I want to remind you of the Federal Government approved projects in Gombe which are over 60 – 65 per cent; from taking over of Gombe Airport, to deliberate interventions in agriculture. People should reciprocate the support by voting APC.

Buhari commended the governor’s developmental strides, especially the industrial hub which was christened Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, noting that it would yield the needed development.

The Senate President of Nigeria, Ahmed Lawan, who also spoke at the rally, described the 16 years of the People’s Democratic Party as “reckless, one that should not be made again.”

He said, “They refused to look at Kolmani, there was Boko Haram during their reign, Tinubu is capable to provide transformational leadership.”

The APC presidential candidate, Tinubu, urged the electorates to vote for him, stressing that his administration would bring about progress.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday certified the appointment of Evelyn Joshua, widow of Prophet T. B. Joshua, as a trustee of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

Justice Tijjani Ringim gave the approval while ruling on a petition by some members of the church.

Kola Kareem and Moji Oguntoyinbo had filed the petition, urging the court to grant their prayer in line with the constitution of the church which prescribes a minimum of three trustees for SCOAN.

Listed as respondents were the incorporated trustees of SCOAN, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and Joshua’s widow.

According to them, she would be replacing her late husband who was a trustee of the church.

They argued that the two surviving members of the board of trustees lacked the legal capacity to make decisions necessary to move the church forward.

“In the circumstances, it became imperative for an additional trustee to be appointed to fill the vacancy created by the untimely death of the deceased founder,” they maintained.

The petitioners were represented in court by Emeka Ekweozor, while Ossazu Owie represented the first and second respondents. O.N. Chukwu appeared for the CAC.

All the respondents, through their lawyers, informed the court that they were not opposed to the petition filed under Section 839 (6) (B) of the Companies and Allied matters Act (CAMA) 2020 (as Amended).

A serious intervention is needed from appropriate authority and sectors before it escalate to break down of law and orders.

It may interest you to know and note the following maladministrative policies or deliberate attempt to inflict pains and wanton hardship on the entire staff's except his cronies and highly paid contact staff illegally employed by him.

Below are highlights;

* Seniority Hierarchy in academy has been completely destroyed by EFFEDUA.Growth in service does not make any sense any longer. EFFEDUA has completely ignored this embedded procedures and resolved to using junior and contact staff as heads of units and department and directors (an Indian contract staff is presently the director of nautical science department)

*EFFEDUA has deliberately refused to conduct promotion interview for staff and he is not willing to do so

*On assumption of office he stopped payment of all duly approved allowances by relevant authorities but started paying after much pressure leaving eight 8 months still outstanding September 2017- April 2018.

* Furthermore MAN ORON is the only federal government establishment that has not been paid November 2020 salary and EFFEDUA has deliberately refused to do anything about it

*MAN ORON is the only federal government establishment that has not been paid arrears of promotion. several attempts to convince the Rector to sign the arrears for onward submission to the office of the accountant general of the federation for payment fell on deaf ears.

* On assumption of office he EFFEDUA claimed that the academy is over staffed but today he has illegally employed over one hundred staff's including some unqualified retired and aged naval officers as lecturers without requisite qualifications for lecturing. Besides he brought in Indians and placed them as Directors which is against the federal civil service rules of engagement of foreigners.

* Sadly over a hundred staff's have lost their jobs or sacked due to the acclaimed fake credentials and perceived enemies are framed up and sacked without due process.

* As civil servants loans are major sources of financing huge project. But EFFEDUA has refused to sign the national housing fund NHF mortgage loan for staff and has also refused to release letters of domiciliary of salary for loans as requested by banks.

* Moreover the academy is operating unilateral system of administration with out recourse laws and order.

*Under this administration general staff welfare is completely absence.

* No staff training and workshops despite huge budget.

*He abuses staff's and the host community using foul language on staff's and their families.




In view of the above and those not mentioned we want to plead with relevant authorities to take urgent action to avert the impending crisis.

A year one student of the Department of Dentistry, University of Calabar from Cross River State, who hails from Yala Local Government Area has collapsed and died earlier today, the 16th day of April 2021 .

According to an a fellow student report from the scene;

I wish to sympathize with Calabar University Of Dental Students Association, UNICAL Chapter (CUDENSA – UCC) and the family of master Paul Ugo, a year one student of the Department of Dentistry, University of Calabar from Cross River State in Yala Local Government Area who collapsed and died earlier today, the 16th day of April 2021 .
