The Eastwind Aviation helicopter that crashed into Bonny River, in Rivers State, yesterday, has claimed the lives of its eight occupants, News360 Nigeria reports.
The helicopter, carrying eight persons, six passengers and two crew members, crashed from Port Harcourt Military base to FPSO NUIM ANTAN (offshore Calabar).
Rivers State Police Command said all eight persons aboard the helicopter that ditched into the Atlantic Ocean have been reportedly dead.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said: “The Rivers State Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident that occurred today, at 11am.
“Mr. Ifeanyi Udogwu, a staff of Antan Producing Limited, Port Harcourt, reported to the Command that a helicopter with the call sign number 5N-BQG (S76C+), belonging to East Wing Aviation, departed from the NAF Base in Port Harcourt. The flight was bound for Nuim Antan OML123 fields, carrying two crew members and six passengers.
“Unfortunately, about 11a.m., the helicopter reportedly ditched into the ocean near Antan Producing Limited’s Mimbo platform and FPSO. All eight persons onboard are feared dead.
“The Marine Division of the Rivers State Police Command is cooperating with other agencies to recover the aircraft and the occupants.
“The Rivers State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the families of the tragic times.
Aviation ministry confirms crash
The incident was confirmed in a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Odutayo Oluseyi.
Meanwhile, News360 Nigeria gathered that the oil workers were contract staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL.
The statement said that three bodies have been recovered so far from the crashed helicopter, while search and rescue operations were ongoing to locate the remaining passengers.
“It said the helicopter, a Sikorsky SK76 with registration 5NBQG and operated by East Wind Aviation, was from Port Harcourt Military Base, DNPM, to the Nuimantan Oil Rig.
“The aircraft, with eight persons on board, ditched into the waters near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean.
“The National Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has been notified and emergency response teams were immediately activated.
“Search and rescue operations are ongoing with the support of the Nigerian Search and Rescue Unit, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, the National Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, and other relevant agencies. Neighbouring aerodromes have also been notified for support.
“While no Emergency Locator Transmitter, ELT, signal was received, manual efforts to plot the location of the accident are underway.
“And all available resources, including the military and low-flying aircraft, have been deployed to assist in locating and rescuing any survivor(s). So far, three bodies have been recovered,” the statement added.
NSIB investigates helicopter crash
Meanwhile, NSIB, has commenced investigation into the accident.
A statement by Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance of NSIB, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, said: “Operating under Visual Flight Rules, VFR, the helicopter did not transmit an Emergency Locator Transmitter, ELT, signal, prompting authorities to manually plot the accident’s location to expedite search and rescue efforts.
Search and rescue operations were activated immediately, with the NSIB collaborating closely with NEMA, NCAA, the Nigerian Armed Forces and other relevant agencies. Emergency response teams are actively working to locate survivors, with three bodies recovered so far. The search continues with support from neighbouring aerodromes, military units, and low-flying aircraft.
Quoting the Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the statement added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragic incident. We are fully committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding this accident. We will work diligently to ensure that all necessary information is collected. The public must avoid speculation during this sensitive time, as our focus is on providing clarity and accountability through our investigation.”
Residents of Akamkpa, Cross River State, were seen gathering fuel from a toppled tanker following an accident in the area, News360 Nigeria reports.
According to a Facebook post by popular journalists Agba Jalingo, the tanker which was transporting fuel, overturned on a major road, leading locals to rush to the scene to collect the spilling fuel.
He wrote:
“A tanker loaded with PMS had an accident this evening at Small Iwuru, Akamkpa LGA in Cross River State. Immediately after the bridge from Calabar.”
“See the number of people daring death and scooping fuel in the face of such massive danger.”
“I am also surprised to see the truck of the Dragon Squad of the Police parked closely and nothing was done to stop the scoopers from the imminent danger.”
“This is still ongoing.”

A 41-year-old Canadian lady Adrienne Munju was on Wednesday convicted and sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos State for importing 74 parcels of Canadian Loud, a strong strain of synthetic cannabis weighing 35.20 kilogrammes into Nigeria, News360 Nigeria reports.
Munju was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on October 3, 2024, during the inward clearance of inbound passengers.
In her statement after her arrest, she claimed she was recruited to traffic the illicit consignment through an online platform for 10,000 Canadian dollars upon successful delivery to Lagos.
She confessed that she took the offer because she needed the money to pay for her ongoing Master’s degree programme in Canada.
Upon arraignment before Justice Dehinde Dipeolu, Munju pleaded guilty to the two charges preferred against her by the NDLEA.
A statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the Prosecuting Counsel, Barrister Ibrahim, told the court that the illegal acts of the convict contravened sections 20(1}(a) and 19 of the NDLEA Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under Section 20(2)(a) of the same Act.
According to Babafemi. the judge sentenced Munju to six years imprisonment on count one and five years on count two, after listening to the allocutus by the defendant’s counsel.
“The judge, however, gave the convict an option of N50 million fine on each of the two counts, bringing the total fine to N100 million, “ the statement added.
Controversial crossdresser, Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, has reportedly fallen ill while in detention at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, News360 Nigeria reports.
After spending the night in a police cell, Bobrisky was rushed to Falomo Police Hospital for medical attention.
A source confirmed the development, stating that he was transferred from the FCID to the hospital for treatment.
The source said, “Bobrisky complained of ‘breast’ pain and was rushed to the Police Hospital in the Falomo area of Lagos around 2:00 p.m. in an ambulance with the plate number LND 339L. He wore a black gown, covered his face with a shawl, and lay down in the ambulance.”
Bobrisky was taken into custody on Monday night by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following his arrest at the Seme border in Lagos during an alleged attempt to leave the country.
There are indications that he may remain in detention as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his arrest. The FCID is expected to obtain a remand order for his continued detention.
A statement from the FCID regarding Bobrisky’s situation is expected later today.
NIS spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, confirmed the arrest, describing Bobrisky as “a person of interest.” He further stated that the NIS had intercepted him at the Seme border as part of their efforts to secure Nigeria’s borders.
President Bola Tinubu at the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting announced the scrapping of the Ministries of Niger Delta Development and Sports, News360 Nigeria reports.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his X, initially known as Twitter.
The presidential aide said, “President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development. There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.
“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
The decisions were taken today at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council in Abuja.
The Federal Government, on Wednesday, withdrew the money laundering charge filed against the detained Binance Holdings Limited’s executive, Tigran Gambaryan, due to his ill health and diplomatic intervention, News360 Nigeria reports.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gambaryan was the 2nd defendant in the charge preferred against the cryptocurrency platform (1st defendant) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
EFCC’s counsel, R. U. Adagba, told Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court, Abuja, of the Federal Government’s decision to withdraw the charge against the detained employee because of his deteriorating health.
She, however, informed the court that the anti-graft agency would continue the charge levelled against the company, Binance Holdings Limited.
After listening to Adagba and the defence counsel, Justice Nwite discharged Gambaryan from the charge and adjourned the trial against the cryptocurrency firm until Nov. 22 and Nov. 25 for continuation of trial. (NAN)

Controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, is currently in detention at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos State.
Sources confirmed that Bobrisky spent the night in a cell after his arrest by Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officials at the Seme border during an attempt to leave the country.
According to the source, Bobrisky was brought to the FCID for safekeeping as further directives are awaited regarding his case. He was arrested while trying to exit Nigeria, and his detention is linked to an ongoing investigation by the authorities.
The source said, “Bobrisky was brought to the FCID, Alagbon, around 10 p.m. on Monday. Immigration arrested him at Seme Boarder and brought him for safekeeping.
“He is in detention at the FCID, Alagbon. He was arrested on Sunday, detained overnight, and taken to the FCID, Alagbon, around 10 pm on Monday. He is still at the FCID.”
Confirming Okuneye’s detention, the spokesperson for the FCID, Lagos, Mayegun Aminat, during a conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday, said, “He is detained at FCID Alagbon. He is with us and we are to get a remand to keep him in custody today.”

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has officially confirmed the arrest of popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, while attempting to flee the country through the Seme Border, News360 Nigeria reports.
In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Deputy Comptroller of Immigration (DCI) Kenneth Udo, the NIS revealed that Bobrisky is a "person of interest" in an ongoing investigation. The arrest took place on Monday during a routine passport check, when the cross-dresser was identified while attempting to evade detection at the border.
The NIS has not disclosed further details regarding the investigation, but Bobrisky’s arrest is reportedly linked to ongoing inquiries by the House of Representatives, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service over bribery allegations.
Bobrisky remains under investigation as authorities continue to explore the circumstances surrounding the case.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says the recent attack on it by Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru (APC Kwara South) was borne out of vendetta rather.
Chairman of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, said this at a media briefing on Monday.
He said the senator’s house in Ilorin, Kwara State, was raided and consignment of drugs recovered.
Marwa, represented by Mr Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy of the agency, also said three of Ashiru’s aides were arrested, prosecuted and sentenced, including, one sent to jail in June this year.
Babafemi berated the senator for his comment that “the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency is corrupt and compromised…”
News360 Nigeria reports reports that at the Senate plenary last week, Ashiru had said NDLEA is the most corrupt and compromised government agency in Nigeria.
He said this while contributing to the debate on a ‘Bill for an Act to establish National Institute for Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation’, claiming that NDLEA has failed in its mandate woefully, thereby giving credence to creation of another drug related agency.
He had said, “The failure of NDLEA has resulted in the high rate of drug trafficking going on in the country. The NDLEA is corrupt and compromised, hence, I support the creation of National Institute for Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation.”
The NDLEA, however said the senator’s comments were uncomplimentary, unfounded and defamatory.
“While acknowledging the great work of the Senate towards the upliftment of Nigeria and Nigerians especially their support for the ongoing concerted efforts towards the amendment of the NDLEA Act, the Agency however said it is duty-bound to respond to the unprovoked attack against it by Senator Ashiru during his contribution to the debate on a new bill for an Act to establish the National Institute for Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation on Tuesday, October 15, 2024,” he said.
Babafemi said that the NDLEA waited for a whole week hoping the lawmaker will clarify his position on such a weighty allegation against it but failing to do that, it is left with no option than to come out and set the record straight for the benefit of other distinguished members of the Senate, its local and international partners as well as the general public.
“The personal house of the senator (Ashiru ) in GRA Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, had been raided in recent past, where drugs and illicit substances were recovered while two of his aides: Ibrahim Mohammed and Muhammed Yahaya were arrested.
Based on credible intelligence and surveillance which confirmed that the senator’s house was being used as a drug joint for drug dealers and users, the house was raided by our operatives at 1:30pm on February 4, 2024 during which the two aides were arrested, while a third suspect escaped arrest.
“In another encounter with the senator, the agency also received intelligence that some of his boys popularly known as ‘Omo Senator’ operating from his home town, Offa, were equally dealing in illicit drugs. A raid was subsequently carried out on their joint in Offa where one of them, Oluwatosin Odepidan was arrested and illicit drugs such as methamphetamine and cannabis recovered from him on June 11, 2023.
“The bid to get the agency drop the case against Odepidan including a visit to the Kwara State Command headquarters of the agency in Ilorin by the Personal Assistant to the senator, one Omoluabi, was rebuffed as Odepidan was promptly charged to court and prosecuted.
“Though the culprit jumped court bail in 2023, he was rearrested in 2024 after the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest. He was eventually convicted and sentenced in June 2024.
“So, going by this backstory, it is deductible that these encounters that the agency has had with the senator, must have been responsible for his outburst, and unfortunately, false allegation, the type that nobody within and outside of government has ever levelled against NDLEA before,” he said.
The agency said despite the impression Senator Ashiru was trying to create about its image, the NDLEA has continued to receive accolades from local and international bodies for its successes in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
He said, “Incidentally, the next day after Senator Ashiru made the statement, NDLEA in Lagos commissioned a new Marine Command Headquarters building donated by the Government of the UK. A similar facility at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport was donated last year by the same British government.
“We have had other facilities donated by United States INL and executed by UNODC in the past 12 months. We have been receiving various support from the governments of France, Germany and the US, among others.
“Suffice it to say that in the past three years, NDLEA has emerged as a regional leader among national drug law enforcement agencies. So, come to think about it, an agency so badmouthed by Senator Ashiru couldn’t have been attracting such international goodwill and commendation for being the ‘most corrupt government agency’ in Nigeria. “Against the background of our encounter with people linked to him, we are wont to believe that Senator Ashiru’s invectives against NDLEA were borne out of vendetta and not any opinion made in the public interest.
“As an agency, we have been professional in our activities and interactions with citizens as we carry out arrests daily. In the past three years, we have made over 52, 000 arrests and got more than 9, 000 convictions, including three life sentences this year. And, as part of our mandate, we have engaged in over 7,000 awareness and sensitisation activities in schools, workplaces, worship centres and communities; treatment and rehabilitation of more than 33,000 drug users including the last two persons arrested in the senator’s house; supported by governments, organisations and other stakeholders in the country and around the world.
“Outside this country, NDLEA has become a reference for drug law enforcement. Therefore, the statement by Senator Ashiru, made in the country’s hallowed chamber in the course of a legislative debate, and made to justify the creation of another agency is motivated by malice; it is a gross misrepresentation of fact; and it is defamatory to the image of NDLEA.
“We believe the well-meaning public; our stakeholders and our partners can see through such calculated mendacity.”
The NDLEA vowed it will remain undeterred by Senator Ashiru’s attack but will be relentless in ongoing effort to dismantle all illicit drug networks across the country including the one operating in the lawmaker’s house.
“And we dare say that such will not deter us from our ongoing effort to dismantle all illicit drug networks including the one operating from the senator’s residence.
News360 Nigeria reports that the development is coming on the heels of Senator Kawu Sumaila (NNPP Kano South), who during the same plenary debate along side Senator Ashiru, indicted politicians for allegedly fuelling the use of illicit drugs by youths in the country.
While contributing, Senator Sumaila said the institute would not help the situation until politicians change their way of doing things.
He challenged politicians including his colleagues at the Senate to swear with the Qur’an or Holy Bible, that they were not culpable in drug trafficking and abuse.
Sumaila was however ruled out of order by the Deputy Senate President, Barau I. Jibrin, who presided over the session, saying his contribution was not relevant to the subject of the debate.
New details have surfaced regarding the arrest of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who was apprehended by the Benin Republic Immigration Service at the Seme border during a routine passport check, News360 Nigeria reports.
Sources from the Immigration Service confirmed that Bobrisky was arrested late at night and held until the following morning. He is currently being transferred to the Lagos zone of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Ikeja for further questioning.
Bobrisky allegedly attempted to leave Nigeria without drawing attention but was identified when an officer recognized his name while processing his passport. “He tried to have someone else stamp his passport, but the officer demanded he step down from the vehicle,” an insider disclosed.
The popular crossdresser is currently under investigation by the House of Representatives, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
This follows allegations from social media influencer Martins Ortse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who claimed that Bobrisky paid N15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky has not publicly responded to these accusations.
Meanwhile, an investigative panel set up by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has revealed that Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, completed a six-month jail term earlier this year.
“The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr Okuneye slept outside the custodial centre during the period of his imprisonment, which was from 12th April 2024 to 5th August 2024, which is a six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable”.
No fewer than 15 generals of the Nigerian Army from the Artillery Corps have bowed out of service.
News360 Nigeria reports that the Artillery Corps delivers heavy firepower support to allied forces positioned at the front lines on the battlefield.
In a post on Sunday on X, the Nigerian Army said the retired officers consist of 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals.
The post added that the retired generals were pulled out of the service at a ceremony held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kaduna State.
It read, “The Nigerian Army formally pulled out 15 retired generals from the Artillery Corps on Saturday, October 19, 2024, during a ceremony at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State. The group of retirees included 11 Major Generals and 4 Brigadier Generals.”
Speaking on behalf of the retired officers during the pulling-out parade, Maj Gen James Myam (retd.) reflected on their long military careers, expressing fulfilment and gratitude.
“He attributed their success to divine grace, acknowledging God’s protection throughout their years of service. He also extended his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, wishing him continued strength and wisdom in his leadership of the NA.
“Looking back, Maj Gen Myam recalled the beginning of their military journeys when they reported to the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna as Officer Cadets.
“He offered advice to the officers still in service, urging them to remain loyal to the Constitution and the democratically elected government while maintaining vigilance and security consciousness.
“The retired general also expressed gratitude to the families, spouses, friends, instructors, and mentors who supported them throughout their careers. The event was attended by several senior retired and serving military officers, including former Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Alwali Kazir (retd),“ the statement added.
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is on leave amid reports of his incapacitation due to health concerns, News360 Nigeria reports
Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, assured the public that there will be no leadership vacuum during Lagbaja’s absence, as Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, the Army’s Chief of Policy and Plans, will act on his behalf. Nwachukwu emphasized that the COAS’s leave will not disrupt the army’s operations, as there are established processes in place to ensure smooth continuity.
The confirmation followed reports of Lagbaja’s health condition, although the Army has not disclosed specific details about his current situation.
According to Nwachukwu: “There have even been insinuations that there is a leadership vacuum, with officers confused about what to do. Nothing could be further from the truth.
“To be very clear, the Nigerian Army is a highly structured establishment with well-laid-out procedures and processes for dealing with different circumstances.
“Before proceeding on leave, necessary protocols were put in place for the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, to act on behalf of the COAS while he was away.
“Claims of a leadership vacuum in the NA at present are therefore mere speculation, as all routine and scheduled activities of the service are on course.”
Governor Umar A. Namadi of Jigawa State has ordered the immediate suspension of Auwalu Dalladi Sankara, the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Special Duties and a member of the State Executive Council, News360 Nigeria reports.
This suspension follows allegations made by the Kano State Hisbah, necessitating an investigation.
In a statement issued by Malam Bala Ibrahim, Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, it was revealed that the decision aims to allow for a thorough investigation into the claims to ensure transparency. The statement also reaffirmed Governor Namadi’s dedication to maintaining integrity and accountability within the state administration.
“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation,” said the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim.

On Friday, the Kano Hisbah Board confirmed the arrest and detention of Sankaraa, saying he would be charged to court, on Monday.
According to Hisbah Director General, Abba Sufi, the commissioner was found with Tasleem Baba Nabegu, who is married with two kids.
“Yes, it is true we have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa Commissioner, with a married woman in an uncompleted building that belongs to him.
“Unknown to him, we were tracking him based on reports we received against him,” the Hisbah Director General said.
The arrest followed a complaint by Nasiru Bulama, the woman’s husband, who accused the commissioner of engaging in an affair with his wife.
“Nasiru Bulama filed the complaint with the Kano State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Hisbah Board, alleging Sankara’s involvement in illicit sexual activities with his wife,” the official added.
He said: “We have been having problems with Sankara because he is operating illicit drugs Centers in the names of hotels with prostitution and drug addiction activities”.
Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah command have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankaraa, Commissioner of Special Duties, in Jigawa State for allegedly committing adultery, News360 Nigeria reports.
The Kano State Hisbah Board on Friday confirmed the arrest and detention of Sankaraa, saying he would be charged to court, on Monday.
According to Hisbah Director General, Abba Sufi, the commissioner was found with Tasleem Baba Nabegu, who is married with two kids.
“Yes, it is true we have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa Commissioner, with a married woman in an uncompleted building that belongs to him.
“Unknown to him, we were tracking him based on reports we received against him,” the Hisbah Director General said.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his frustration over conflicting judgments from the judiciary, calling on divine intervention against corrupt judges who allegedly accept bribes to manipulate justice,News360 Nigeria reports.
Speaking at the opening of the 2024/2025 Legal Year and Re-Dedication Service held at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul’s, Anglican Communion in Diobu, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara criticized certain legal professionals for compromising their integrity to serve the interests of their paymasters.
The governor’s remarks highlighted concerns about judicial corruption and the need for ethical adherence within the legal system, as he invoked God’s judgment on those who undermine the principles of justice for personal gain.
“Some of you, you say you are legal luminaries. You know the truth, but you will go on air just to pacify your paymasters to turn the law upside down.
“We all know the law when it comes to issues that have to do with the administration of governance in the State; it is within the jurisdiction of the State High Court. It doesn’t matter whether you joined INEC, or Police. It is a State’s matter! I am not a lawyer, but I know that one. And you stand and say you are doing the right thing? God will judge you.”
Governor Fubara stated that within the temple of justice, judges are seen to represent God, who must not be afraid to look at those who come to equity, and dispense justice rightly without fear or favour.
The Governor warned that, because court judgments have far-reaching implications, great care needed to be taken in making judicial pronouncements.
“Let me say it here so that you will understand: Judges, you are the God that we are seeing. Your position is to stand and defend us. Your position is to look at whoever and tell the person the truth.
“Because if you don’t do it here, you will have a big question to answer. The preacher said it, every evil done in the course of administering justice, you will pay for it dearly.”
Governor Fubara applauded the Rivers State Judiciary, particularly, the High Court Divisions for their sundry support that have contributed to keeping his administration going despite calculated antagonisms.
The State Governor alluded to the fact that some judicial officers in the State have been either threatened, physically assaulted or slammed with frivolous petitions raised against them to coerce them to submit.
Governor Fubara urged them to remain resolute in their commitment to stand on the side of truth, and never compromise justice.
“I want to thank the Rivers State Judiciary, more especially, the High Court of Rivers State, for your support, for keeping this administration afloat up until this hour.
“We know quite alright that a good number of you have been threatened by way of phone calls and even physical assaults. We are also aware that some of you have been threatened professionally through petitions that are fake and frivolous.
“But one thing that you need to understand is that you must be persecuted when you are doing the right thing. And those of you who are doing the right thing that are being fought from all sides, be courageous. Very soon, this whole thing will be over. Nothing lasts forever.”
Fubara harped on the importance of having strong institutions thrive to entrench democracy and good governance so as to engender a healthy and prosperous society.
“What we are praying for in this country is institutional strength and not individual strength. Institutional strength is the only thing that will bring development in this country.
“If I am a businessman, and I am coming into Nigeria to invest, why will I invest when what I am seeing today is that institutions are weak and individuals are stronger than institutions?”
Governor Fubara recalled that October, 2023, the story was different, but today, one year after, everybody is smiling because of the grace of God.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for Sweden on a 2-day visit to represent Nigeria in bilateral engagements with the Scandinavian nation, News360 Nigeria reports.
At the instance of President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President, during the working visit, will engage in high-level bilateral talks with key Government officials, including a meeting with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and the Swedish Prime Minister.
A statement from the Presidency says Shettima will use the visit to explore opportunities for strengthened collaboration between Nigeria and Sweden in areas such as ICT, innovation, education, digitalisation, sustainable transport, mining, and agriculture.
The Presidency adds that Shettima will also meet with key stakeholders in both the Government and Private Sector.
Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are currently in discussions with the Federal Government regarding critical national issues, particularly the rising cost of petrol and its economic implications.

No fewer than 90 people were confirmed dead following a petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura local government area of Jigawa State on Tuesday, News360 Nigeria gathered.
Mr Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa, confirmed this in an interview with NAN on Wednesday.
He also said that 50 other persons had been hospitalised for various degrees of injuries due to the explosion.
”At about 11:30pm on Tuesday in Majia Town, Taura local government area of Jigawa, the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University and exploded.
“The driver left Kano and was heading to Nguru in Yobe when the accident happened,” Adam said.
He said: ”we are worried that in spite of police warning people to stay clear from scenes of accidents involving fuel tankers, they still engage in such acts.
”People gathered around the accident scene, that is the reason for the mass casuality”.
The spokesperson said that a mass burial of the victims would hold by 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
He added that the injured were receiving medical attention at the Ringim General hospital.
Drama unfolded in the National Assembly on Tuesday when Senator Kawu Sumaila (Kano South) made a startling allegation that several of his colleagues were involved in drug abuse while performing their official duties, News360 Nigeria gathered
During a debate on a Bill to establish the National Institute for Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation, Sumaila claimed that many senators possessed hard drugs, which they allegedly kept in their constituency offices and homes. He also went further to assert that a significant number of senators have connections with drug dealers.
These explosive claims are expected to spark further discussion and investigation within the legislative body.
Sumaila said: “As I am speaking now, most of our offices in our constituencies, most of our political offices in our constituencies, most of our houses, when you go there, you will find out that there is a mountain of drugs and there are drug dealers in our offices and in our houses. All in our houses.”
Sumaila also said he knows some senior politicians supporting drug dealers in carrying out their illegal activities.
“I can take you to some of the political leaders who are in so many ways contributing or supporting drug abusers in Nigeria. Therefore, Mr. President, we need to be serious.
“If we are talking, we need to understand, we are all one here. We need to fight it from our own side. We need to be serious. Let us go for test and see who and who are not”.
Sumaila challenged his colleagues to swear with the Qur’an and the Bible that they did not encourage drug abuse during their electioneering campaigns.
Sumaila said: “Let us ask ourselves during our campaigns, what are we doing with the so-called youth? How many of us can swear with Quran or Bible that in any way they are not supporting drug abusers in their constituency?
“I am happy if all of us can swear with Holy Quran that they are not in any way in support of drug abusers or interacting with youth in their constituency to take drugs because of their political interests,” he added.
He advocated for drug tests for politicians before contesting elections and assumption of political offices.
He said: “Whether we are allowing this bill to create an agency or we are strengthening NDLEA, we need a situation where before contesting elections, or before taking up an office at whatever level in government, you must go for a drug test.”
He said the country will not achieve the essence of the bill until the upper chamber collaborates with relevant stakeholders to stop drug abuse in the country.
“There is one aspect which we need to look into. Whether we create this agency or strengthen the activities of NDLEA, we need to do something. We, as politicians, we, as leaders in this country, we, as stakeholders, we need to do a lot.
“We all believe that religiously, both Islam and Christianity, even in our traditional religion, drug abuse is prohibited. But, who are those encouraging and supporting it?
“We cannot achieve the intent of this bill unless and until we all agree that we will put our heads together with relevant stakeholders to stop drug abuse in Nigeria,” he said.
Responding, Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary, ruled Sumaila out of order because the comment was not relevant to the debate on the Bill.
“Order 56. Debate upon any motion, bill or amendment shall be relevant to such motion.
“While we are speaking, while we are contributing, our contributions should be relevant to the subject matter.
“In this case, your contribution is not relevant to the subject matter. I therefore rule you out of order,” Barau said.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, announced that the PDP governors have settled the factional crisis affecting the party’s National Working Committee, News360 Nigeria reports.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum stated, “The crisis is over. The governors, Board of Trustees, and other organs have resolved that the NWC should revert to the status quo. They are now united.”

The Federal Government has summoned Libya’s Chargé d’affaires to resolve the situation involving its national football team, the Super Eagles, who were stranded for over 12 hours after arriving in Libya, News360 Nigeria reports.
The team arrived at the North African country for the return leg of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers after beating the Mediterranean Knights of Libya 1-0 in Akwa Ibom last Friday.
“We have summoned the Libyan chargé d’affaires,” Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, confirmed to State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
Tuggar said the Super Eagles were redirected to an airport without aviation fuel, leaving them stranded.
News360 Nigeria reports that the Nigerian men’s team recently faced a distressing ordeal upon their arrival in Libya for the match.
The team’s flight, initially bound for Benghazi, was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abraq International Airport, a remote location typically used for religious pilgrimages.
Upon landing, the players and staff, were left stranded for over 12 hours at the airport without food, water or transportation, the team’s captain, William Troost-Ekong, revealed on his X handle.
Troost-Ekong said the Libyan authorities failed to assist, leaving the team frustrated and fatigued.
The Captain described the conditions as intolerable, stating that the team was essentially held “hostage” under unsafe and inhumane conditions.
In response to the ordeal, the Super Eagles decided to boycott the AFCON qualifier, with the Nigeria Football Federation supporting their decision.
The NFF also began making arrangements to return the team to Nigeria safely as concerns grew over their safety and well-being.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister described the incident as “unfortunate”, saying the Nigerian Government is in touch with Libyan authorities to get to the root of the matter.
He said, “Suffice it to say that we have established contact with them. We’ve sent people from the mission to go there. They are in touch with the delegation.
“Now I am also communicating directly with the chairman, and since last night, we’ve been on the phone with the chargé d’affaires because Libya Doesn’t have an ambassador here.
“So, we’re in touch with the chargé d’affaires, and I’m heading back to the ministry now, where we have summoned the Libyan chargé d’affaires. This issue has to be resolved as quickly as possible. So we’re on top of the situation.”
Tuggar hinted that Libya’s gesture might be connected to a similar incident in the first leg of the qualifiers, where its national team landed at the Port Harcourt airport instead of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, October 11.
“It’s the most unfortunate situation because the Super Eagles flew to Libya to play a match. As you know, the Libyan team was here. They were supposed to land in Uyo. Instead, they landed in Port Harcourt, where they were not supposed to land.
“Now our team has gone to Libya, and somehow, the plane gets diverted to a different airport. Unfortunately, at that airport, there is no aviation fuel because what we have decided is they need to refuel and get out; we will not be able to allow them to continue. No food.
“When they (the Libyan team) landed they even got some cartoons of water.”
As of this report, the Super Eagles are believed to have departed Libya for Nigeria.
As Nigerians grapple with the soaring cost of petrol, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has surged to N1,500 per kilogram, News360 Nigeria reports.
This increase has been reported in various retail outlets across Ogun and Lagos States, with the price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder reaching N17,000 in Abuja, reflecting a 41.6% rise compared to previous months.
According to NIPCO Plc Managing Director, Suresh Kumar, the heavy reliance on imports, with over 60% of the country’s cooking gas sourced externally, is a key factor in the price hike.
However, Kumar expressed optimism that the Dangote refinery and other domestic refineries could eventually help lower prices.
Reports indicate that in January 2024, cooking gas sold for N11,735, but prices have continued to climb, posing further challenges for consumers.
This sharp price rise reflects ongoing trends in the market and may have implications for consumers, many of whom rely on LPG for their daily cooking needs.
In August, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, promised to ensure a reduction in the rising cost of a kilogram of cooking gas.
Ekpo noted that he would invite the regulators and the gas producers to find ways to bring down the cost.
However, a new market survey conducted by our correspondent on Sunday revealed that the price has not decreased; instead, it has risen even further.
An analysis showed that the product currently sells for N17,000 in Lokogoma area of the FCT, an increase of 41.6 per cent from N12,000 vendors sold to customers three months ago. This means one kilogram of gas was sold for N1,400.
In Kubwa, the product was sold between N16,200 and N16,500 from N12,000 previously charged. But in the outskirt area of Bwari, Kurudu and Jikwoyi, the product sold for N1,300.
Some major distributors still sell the product between N1,300 and N1,400 depending on the location.
The Commissioner for Environment in Ogun State, Ola Oresanya, once told one of our correspondents that many might resort to charcoal for cooking if the price of LPG continues to rise.
However, speaking at the just-concluded National Conference of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers 2024, held in Lagos, Kumar, revealed that local production of LPG remains inadequate, urging the Federal Government to encourage Chevron to convert more of its propane output into propane.
“Currently, less than 40 per cent of the 1.5 million metric tonnes consumed domestically is produced locally. This is why the government must encourage companies like Chevron to convert more of their propane output into butane, which is more suitable for domestic use,” he explained.
Responding to questions about the rising cost of LPG amid a blend of local and imported supply, the managing director expressed optimism that prices would decline as domestic production improves, especially as the local refineries source crude oil locally.
“With the Dangote refinery and other refineries now sourcing crude oil in local currency, the volume of LPG produced locally is expected to increase, which will, in turn, drive down the price of the commodity,” the MD explained.
He added, “There is hope that the reliance on imported LPG will decrease, which will positively influence the prices at which the product is sold domestically. Greater local production will make LPG more affordable since it reduces exposure to foreign exchange fluctuations and international pricing dynamics.”
According to him, boosting local production would attract further investments in pipelines, storage, and bottling facilities, as well as expand retail outlets and LPG depots across Nigeria.
“Our latest assessments show that the existing downstream infrastructure is capable of handling up to 5 million MT annually. This means we are ready to accommodate increased production from both associated and non-associated gas fields within the country,” the MD said.
He urged the government to introduce incentives to encourage investments in gas processing.
According to him, NIPCO, which has been operational since 2004, initially entered the industry as a marketer of white products (petroleum fuels).
He, however, emphasised that the company’s long-term vision has always been to become a leader in the marketing and distribution of LPG.
Kumar said, “Our strategy was driven by the fact that Nigeria has over 200 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves. We believe that the country’s gas consumption must be optimised through the promotion of both LPG for domestic use and CNG for the industrial and transportation sector.”
He further emphasised the company’s investments in infrastructure, noting that NIPCO has expanded its LPG operations significantly over the years.
“In 2008, we invested in an LPG facility in Apapa with a capacity of 5,000 metric tonnes. Today, that same facility has grown to over 20,000 metric tonnes, thanks to strategic partnerships with our subsidiaries.
“We have also deployed LPG tankers and established multiple stations across Nigeria to ensure easy access to cooking gas for households nationwide,” Kumar revealed.
He further explained that while LPG is essential for homes, CNG will play a key role in powering industries and transforming the transportation sector.
The managing director added, “At the time NIPCO entered the market, Nigeria’s domestic LPG consumption was around 50,000 metric tonnes annually,” he stated.
“However, the past 16 to 17 years have been a remarkable journey. Today, the market has grown from 50,000 MT to approximately 1.5 million MT per year.”
Despite the growth, Kumar pointed out that significant potential remains untapped, saying less than 60 per cent of Nigeria’s 200 million population has embraced the use of LPG.
“Our vision is to harness these opportunities and grow the country’s LPG consumption from 1.5 million MT to levels more appropriate for a population of over 200 million people.
“We must work with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and other stakeholders to end gas flaring in the country. Substantial investments are needed to capture and process flared gas to increase domestic supply beyond the current 1.5 million MT to at least 5 million MT annually,” he stressed.
The NIPCO boss acknowledged that demand for LPG in Nigeria has been relatively stagnant due to the high cost of the product.
“The current high prices have limited consumption growth, but this situation is only temporary. With more players entering the gas processing sector, we anticipate a market correction soon,” he stated, believing that the market would stabilise in the long run.
He urged the Federal Government to support local refineries, including the Dangote Refinery, to boost domestic gas production.
“It is crucial for the government to back these refineries in their efforts to significantly increase LPG output. This will drive down retail prices and make the product more accessible to Nigerians,” he posited.
