Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has responded firmly to former Governor Nyesom Wike amid the ongoing political tensions in the state.

In a bold statement, Fubara said, “I won’t give my kidney or liver to remain governor; nobody should apologize for me.”
He emphasized his willingness to stand alone for what he believes is right, stating, “If I’m the only person who needs to stand on that side of right, I will stand there. I don’t need anybody to stand with me.”

Popular Nigerian internet personality Bobrisky has taken legal action against social media influencer VeryDarkMan, filing a ₦1 billion lawsuit, News360 Nigeria reports.
The lawsuit centers on claims that VeryDarkMan released a voice recording allegedly generated by artificial intelligence (AI), falsely attributing it to Bobrisky.
In a statement, Bobrisky issued a 24-hour ultimatum to VeryDarkMan, demanding the withdrawal of the claims and a public apology. Failure to comply, according to Bobrisky, would result in further legal action.
Bobrisky’s legal team has expressed confidence in their case, citing defamation and malicious intent behind the spread of the AI-generated content.
This legal battle comes as part of Bobrisky’s ongoing efforts to protect her public image and combat the spread of false information online.
A 35-year-old man, identified as Babaji Duale, has been reportedly killed by a male lion at the of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) zoological garden, Abeokuta, on Saturday.
News360 Nigeria gathered that the victim from Bauchi State was a trained handler of the wild animal.
In a statement issued by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, on Sunday, Duale, was said to have been careless by not securing the locks and barricade the lion’s enclosure before feeding the lion.

The statement reads, “A deadly incident involving a wild animal attack has been reported by the Area Commander metro. On September 28, 2024, at about 7:40 hrs the Chief Security Officer of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library informed the divisional police officer that a 35-year-old man named Babaji Daule from Bauchi State, who is a trained handler of a male lion at the Zoological Garden in OOPL Abeokuta, tragically lost his life.
“It was discovered that the lion handler carelessly neglected to secure the locks and barricade the of lion’s enclosure before approaching the cage to feed the animal. This negligence allowed the lion to escape and attack the handler, resulting in fatal injuries to the handler’s neck and eventual death
“The victim’s body was removed and taken to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital, while the wild lion was shot to release its grip on the handler.”
Abubakar Umar, a witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says he gave Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of Benue, the sum of $15.8 million cash – equivalent of N3.1 billion – at his residence in Abuja in 2014, News360 Nigeria reports.
In 2020, Suswam and Omadachi Okolobia, a former finance commissioner in Benue, were re-arraigned on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering.
They were both accused of diverting N3.1 billion from the state coffers.
They were first arraigned before Ahmed Mohammed, a judge of the federal high court, in 2015.
During Friday’s proceedings, Umar, a bureau de change operator, told the court how he received money from Suswam through proxies on numerous occasions in tranches.
“One day in 2014, when I was in the office, the former governor of Benue State asked me to meet him in his house in Maitama, Abuja. I went and met him in the house together with one fair woman,” he said.
“He asked me to give the woman my account number. I gave the woman my Zenith Bank account number. The woman said she’ll send money into that account.
“On the 8th of August 2014, N413 million was transferred to my account. Based on this, I called the former governor and he told me to change the money to dollars and I asked him to give me time to do that.
“Three days after I bought the dollar equivalent, I called the former governor and informed him that the money was ready. He now asked me to take the money to his house in Maitama, near Jumat Mosque. I now told him that he should inform the security at the gate that I was coming, if not they’ll not allow me access into the gate.
“I took a cab to the house, and after I arrived at the house, I knocked at the gate and they opened. I told them my name. They opened the first and second gates and I sat in the waiting room where he came and met me.
“I now brought out the money which we both confirmed to be the equivalent of the N413 million.
“The total money transferred to my account was N3 billion.”
After hearing the testimony of the witness, Peter Lifu, the judge presiding over the case, adjourned the matter till October 4, 2024, for continuation of trial.
The ongoing crisis within the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worsened on Saturday as two factions emerged, each electing its own State Chairman and executive members.
The faction loyal to the 2023 governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, elected Abayomi Tella as its State Chairman, with Sunday Solarin as the State Secretary at the Abeokuta Sports Club News360 Nigeria gathered.
Meanwhile, a coalition led by Chief Jimi Adebisi Lawal, along with Deputy Governorship candidate Hon. Abdulkadir Adekunle Akinlade and former State Chairman Hon. (Dr.) Sikirulai Ogundele, gathered at NeuGate Exclusive Hall in Abeokuta.
This group re-elected Ogundele as Chairman and appointed Alhaji Salisu Abdulwaheed Oloruntola as Secretary.
Also, while a journalist, Austin Oniyokor emerged as the State Publicity Secretary at the Congress held by the Lawal group, the Adebutu group had Adebayo Kayode, an architect, as its Publicity Secretary.
The same situation applies to the other 36 State executive positions that make up the elected state executive officers.
This development is coming on the heels of the dispute that has dogged the Ward and Local Government Congresses held on the 31st August 2024 and 14th September 2024 – in the build-up to the state congress.
The party held parallel ward and local government congresses across the 236 wards and 20 local government areas.
In Ogun State, there are two major factions. The one led by Adebutu and the coalition led by the trio of Lawal, Akinlade and Ogundele.
It was gathered that in all the wards and LGAs, two sets of executives emerged for the 17 ward Exco positions in all 236 wards and the 18 available Exco positions in each of the 20 local government areas
The foundation for the parallel congress was said to have been laid by the alleged refusal to use the registers authenticated by the national leadership of the party for the Ward Congress which is in favour of the Lawal-led group.
This is so because the Adebutu group refused to submit its registers to the national leadership of the party for authentication ahead of the congresses.
The authenticated registers, it was learnt, consist of names of the delegates to the Ward Congress (i.e. those to vote and be voted for at the elective congress) in line with Section 8 (10) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
The issue has become a subject of litigation before the Federal High Court in Abeokuta which has adjourned the matter till 15th October, 2024, for the hearing of the preliminary objection and originating summons.
Recall that on Friday, the court warned the party against undermining the integrity of the judicial process.
Delivering a ruling in Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/134/2024 between Chief Folorunsho Iseoluwa Akande and Ors. v. PDP and Ors., the Hon. Justice Abiodun Adeyemi said, “On the issue of preserving the RES which is the major fear of the Plaintiffs, the RES in this matter is not perishable like food, nor is it irreparable like pulling down a building. The subject matter relates to party Congress and the recognition of members in compliance with certain laws. I am fully aware of the powers vested in the Court to set aside any act done outside the provisions of the law.I believe the Court shouldn’t make any positive orders until the issue of Jurisdiction is settled.
“Consequently, I admonish parties to take note of the fact that this Court is now fully seized of this matter and to refrain from taking any steps that will disturb the RES or undermine the integrity of the judicial process.”
Meanwhile, State Congress Committee, that conducted the Ladi Adebutu-led faction, Alhaji Kabiru Baffa Jauro, denied any knowledge of any parallel Congress, stressing that any other Congress in the State remains a “kangaroos congress” and an exercise in futility.
“If there is anything or any other State Congress going on somewhere else, they are on their own because they neither have a letter of authority, nor the list of the delegates and if they have, let them show you”.
“Please permit me to emphasize that right now, my job is to conduct the state’s party congress with my colleagues after which the result and detailed analysis of the report will be submitted to the national secretariat of our party, detailing the procedural processes”.
“It is thereafter, left for the national secretariat to cross-check how we carried out the assignment given to us and whether it is in tandem with the guidelines. If however, they are not satisfied with what we have done, it is left for them as they are the ones to speak on it. I don’t have any mandate to speak in that direction”.

The Federal Government has suspended officers in charge of the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres at Kirikiri, Lagos, following allegations that convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was provided an apartment outside the custodial center during his six-month jail sentence.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced the suspension in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
This follows the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo's, decision to initiate an investigation into the claim, News360 Nigeria gathered.
Ahmed confirmed that the suspension is to facilitate a thorough investigation, assuring that the findings will be made public upon conclusion.
He said; “Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service.
“Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
“Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.
“In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate”.
Discharged Nigerian Army soldier, Private Ruth Ogunleye, has urged the Nigerian Army to make public the findings of its investigation into her accusations of sexual harassment against senior officers, including Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem.
Ogunleye, who was dismissed from service earlier this year, took to her TikTok [/b]account in a video obtained by News360 Nigeria [b]to reiterate her demands for transparency.
Ogunleye had previously accused Abdulkareem of repeated attempts to assault her, administering unwanted injections, and confining her to a psychiatric hospital after she refused his advances.
She also implicated Colonel G.S. Ogor and Brigadier General I.B. Solebo in making her life difficult.
In response, the Nigerian Army, through its spokesperson Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, dismissed Ogunleye’s claims, stating that an extensive review of the facts and evidence found no merit to her accusations.
The Army also noted that medical evaluations indicated Ogunleye had a condition making her medically vulnerable, which influenced her discharge.
While Ogunleye expressed gratitude to the Army for her service, she insisted that the results of the investigation should be made public for the sake of transparency.
She said, “I want to say a big thank you to the Nigerian Army and its spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu. It is no longer news that I was discharged from the service on June 15, 2024".
"I humbly request that the Nigerian Army publish the outcome of the investigation that led to my discharge".
“On January 9, 2024, I came on social media to complain about how I was harassed by Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, Colonel G.S. Ogor, and Brigadier General I.B. Soleb.”
“I beg the Nigerian Army to post the outcome of the investigation on its social media platforms so that the whole world will know what truly transpired and what led to my discharge. I will be very grateful if my request is considered.”
In a separate post, Ogunleye also called on the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy, not to remain silent on the matter.
She said that the minister had prevailed on her to write the discharge letter, which she submitted on her behalf to the Nigerian Army.
Ogunleye expressed shock that her discharge was tied to a mental illness.
She said, “I’m calling out the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy. You’re not just a mother, you’re a woman everybody respects so much.”
“Please come out and say things as they are. Ma, you requested me to leave the job, and I submitted my handwritten voluntary resignation letter to you, which you gave to the Army, and requested that they release me to your office.”
The psychiatric doctors were there when you intervened.
“Come out and tell the truth, ma. Thereafter, the Chief of Army Staff called me on July 1, where he told me he converted my voluntary discharge to a medical discharge because you wanted me to benefit from pension and other entitlements. How was I boarded out, and where is this mental illness coming from?”
Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has described the protection of over 200 million Nigerians by just two million security personnel as unrealistic, News360 Nigeria reports.
The General made this statement during the 2024 Distinguished Personality Lecture held yesterday in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Represented by the Chief of Army Training, Sanni Mohammed, Gen. Lagbaja also discussed the military’s dependency on imported defense equipment, citing Nigeria's weak industrial base as a contributing factor.
Additionally, he raised concerns over the insufficient funding of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), noting that it has a direct impact on the military’s overall operational effectiveness.
He said: “In a country of over 200 million people, it is unrealistic to expect security agencies, totalling around two million, including an army of just over 100,000 active personnel without a reserve force, to secure the entire population.
“We import over 90 per cent of our military needs,” he said, noting that despite some local production efforts, the country’s dependence on foreign military supplies remains overwhelming. “The pursuit of national development alongside national security is a costly endeavour, as defence policy is capital-intensive.
“In 2023, the entire AFN had a budget of about $2.8 billion, with an additional supplementary budget of around one billion dollars. However, not all budgetary allocations were fully released. “Although funding for the AFN has been improving annually since 2017, the country’s economic downturn has eroded the actual value of what is released.
“The lack of funding affects the AFN’s equipment holdings, which directly impacts performance.” Addressing the security personnel gap, Lagbaja said: “The considerable resource gap is being exploited by criminal elements. Addressing this requires investment in expanding and strengthening security forces, ensuring adequate personnel and resources.
“National security requires all citizens to be part of the security framework, fostering vigilance, trust, and community engagement. This will create a more resilient citizenry, better equipped to respond to national emergencies.”
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole stressed the importance of peace and security for sustainable development.
The event, organised by the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies at the University of Ilorin, in collaboration with the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji, was held as part of activities marking the United Nations International Day of Peace.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano State Command has confirmed the death of five police officers in a fatal road crash while returning from Edo State, where the governorship election was recently held.
In a statement issued by the FRSC spokesperson, Abdullahi Labaran, it was also confirmed that ten other individuals sustained injuries in the crash.
The incident occurred on the Kano-Zaria Road, near Karfi Village.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC obtained by News360 Nigeria revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding, which resulted in the driver losing control of the bus and crashing into a stationary trailer.
Following the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Mohammed, cautioned drivers against the dangers of excessive speeding, overloading, and other traffic violations.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life on the nation’s roads.
The Nigerian Army has discharged Private Ruth Ogunleye from service after she accused senior officer Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem of sexual harassment, News360 Nigeria reports.
The allegations, which surfaced in January 2024 on her TikTok page, named Abdulkareem, alongside Colonel G.S. Ogor and Brigadier General I.B. Solebo, as figures who had made her life difficult.
Ogunleye specifically accused Abdulkareem of repeated attempts to assault her, forcibly removing her from her residence, administering injections against her will, and confining her to a psychiatric hospital for rejecting his advances.
In response to these serious accusations, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, ordered an investigation.
On Tuesday, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, addressed journalists in Abuja, stating that a thorough review of evidence, testimonies, and facts had cleared Abdulkareem of any wrongdoing.
Consequently, the army decided to discharge Ogunleye from service.
He said, “Upon receipt of her initial complaint, which included allegations of sexual harassment, the Nigerian Army took immediate action. The matter was referred to the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police, who were tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the veracity of her claims. The investigation was conducted in accordance with established protocols, with every effort made to ensure a fair and impartial process.
“It is crucial to assert that the Nigerian Army, in its bid to ensure justice and transparency, conducted an exhaustive review of the facts, testimonies, and evidence presented.
“The investigation concluded that Colonel I.B Abdulkareem did not commit the offence of sexual harassment as alleged by ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye. The findings were definitive and based on an objective evaluation of the available information.”
Onyema also revealed that Ogunleye had been recommended for discharge on medical grounds since 2022, but the Nigerian Army, showing sympathy, provided her with the best possible medical treatment before discharging her into civilian life.
He added, “While the Army was addressing the allegations of sexual harassment, further concerns regarding Ruth Ogunleye’s conduct came to light. Her behaviour, both online and offline, raised questions about her deteriorating mental health and emotional stability.”
Onyema stated that medical reports following an evaluation at the National Hospital in Abuja indicated that Ogunleye was suffering from a condition that rendered her medically vulnerable.
He said, “Consequently, the Nigerian Army referred ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye for medical evaluation at the National Hospital in Abuja, following earlier assessments by the Nigerian Army Medical Corps that suggested potential mental health concerns.
“This decision was made to safeguard her well-being and ensure that any actions taken by the Nigerian Army were informed by a comprehensive understanding of her condition, as advised by trained professionals.
“The medical evaluation confirmed that Ruth Ogunleye was suffering from a condition that made her medically vulnerable.”
Onyema said that, based on her medical condition, the Army had decided not to pursue disciplinary action against Ogunleye.
Instead, she was discharged from service on medical grounds.
He added, “In light of this, the Army, though fully capable of proceeding with disciplinary action for her acts of indiscipline and misconduct, opted to exercise compassion and leniency. Based on the medical report from the National Hospital and advice from the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, the decision was made to shelve any disciplinary procedures that could have been taken against her.
“Instead, the Army prioritised her health, understanding that she was in no position to continue with military service. She was subsequently boarded and discharged from service.”
Onyema further stated that although Ogunleye was not entitled to a pension, she was discharged with a 50 per cent monthly pension for life, among other benefits.
He said, “Despite ex-Private Ruth not serving the requisite number of years to qualify for a pension (10 years), she has nonetheless been discharged from the Nigerian Army with a 50 per cent disability claim, meaning she will receive a 50 per cent monthly pension for life. She has also been paid her Terminal Leave Allowance and Terminal Packing Allowance, as well as her contributions to the Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme and Benevolent Fund.
“These payments were made on 14 August 2024 into her FCMB account. Her Security Debarment Allowance for the period she served (5 years and 54 days) has also been paid. The decision to discharge her was made after she rejected an offer of medical treatment, either from the National Hospital or the Nigerian Army.”
Kachalla Tukur Sharme, a notorious bandit commander, has been killed in a violent clash between rival bandit groups, according to Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State.
Aruwan disclosed to journalists that Sharme, along with two other bandits, was killed during the fierce gunfight, which also led to the escape of some kidnapped individuals.

The Kaduna State government has continued to intensify efforts to curb banditry and secure the release of kidnapped citizens.
He said, “According to intelligence sources, five bandits were injured in the clash and are presently lurking in the area, seeking paramedics to manage their wounds.”
“Sharme, a notorious bandit who had butchered many citizens, kidnapped hundreds and rustled innumerable herds of cattle, met his end in a battle between his group and an opposing gang. The clash occurred at the weekend, around a location referred to as ‘Hambakko’, in the Rijana and Kaso Forests which span Kachia and parts of Chikun and Kajuru LGAs.”
“Sharme had several times escaped the crosshairs of security forces by a mere whisker, and remained hotly sought after before he was gunned down by fellow terrorists.”
“Sharme and his gang of bandits were largely responsible for attacks, killings and kidnappings in Millenium City, Maraban Rido, Kujama, Kajuru, Maro, villages in Kateri general area and other locations in adjoining LGAs of Kagarko, Kachia and Birnin Gwari. This was in addition to his criminal acts in neighbouring states of Katsina and Niger which were also left reeling from the waves of his terrorism.”
“One of the most heinous acts perpetrated by Kachalla Sharme was the kidnapping of 121 students of Bethel Baptist High School, Kujama, Kaduna State on 5th July 2021.
In the course of repelling Sharme and his gang of terrorists, two personnel of the security forces paid the supreme price.”

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at the Yauri River in Kebbi State when a 60-year-old fisherman, Malam Usman Maigadi, was killed by a hippopotamus.
News360 Nigeria reports that Maigadi, who worked as a guard at the Emir of Yauri’s Orchard Farm, was attacked by the animal while fishing, with reports suggesting the hippopotamus likely acted in defense of its young.
The Chairman of Yauri Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, confirmed the fisherman’s death and stated that Maigadi had been buried according to Islamic rites after a funeral prayer in Yauri.
Governor Nasir Idris expressed his condolences to Maigadi’s family and the Yauri Emirate through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris.
“I want the emirate and members of the deceased family to take heart and accept the will of the Almighty in good faith.
“I pray to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, animal attacks, though rare, can occur when humans inadvertently come into close contact with wildlife.
These incidents often happen when animals feel threatened or perceive a danger to their young or territory.
In February 2024, the veterinary technologist in charge of the Zoological Garden of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State, Mr Olabode Olawuyi, was killed by a lion on the campus.
In 2020, lions attacked and killed a South African conservationist, West Mathewson, 69, without warning.
The ruling All Progressives Congress has won all the 305 councilorship seats and 27 chairmanship positions in the Imo State local government election held on Saturday.
Announcing the results at the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission’s office on Sunday, the Chairman of ISIEC, Charles Ejiogu, said, “The election followed the laid down guidelines and procedures.

“We observed primaries of political parties. Election took place across the 305 wards and 27 LGs. Election took place at 4758 polling units.
“Political parties inspected sensitive materials and I can say that the election was peaceful, fair, transparent and credible.”
The chairman added, “The APC won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats”.
News360 Nigeria repoted that 17 political parties participated in the election.
However, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Lancelot Obiaku, described the election as a charade, a show of shame and undemocratic.
“It is on record that ISIEC did not release the list of candidates for the election, nor did the commission publish the voter register at the polling units as the law requires. There was no communication or meeting whatsoever with political parties, the candidates, and other stakeholders regarding the election.
“Also, just a day before the election, no one knew who the ISIEC electoral officers were and how the ad-hoc staff were selected. The commission never advertised applications for its ad-hoc roles”.
The election which started on Saturday has been concluded with the announcement of the results.
After months of intense political maneuvering, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, News360 Nigeria reports.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Okpebholo’s victory late on Sunday.
Okpebholo, 54, secured 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.
Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, finished third with 22,761 votes, while fourteen other candidates received significantly fewer votes.
Prof. Faruk Kuta, the Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, declared, "That Okpebholo Monday of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected," at exactly 09:27 pm in Benin City to the cheers of APC supporters.
The APC candidate dominated in over 10 of the 18 local government areas, while the PDP managed narrow victories in the remaining councils.
The APC also secured control in two of the state’s three senatorial districts.
Okpebholo’s win was bolstered by strong backing from influential political figures, including Adams Oshiomhole, his National Assembly colleague from Edo North, and his running mate, federal lawmaker Dennis Idahosa.
The alliance also included Obaseki’s estranged deputy, Philip Shaibu, which further consolidated Okpebholo’s support base.
The victory marks the APC's return to power at the Dennis Osadebe Government House, following a four-year hiatus after the defection of the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, to the PDP in 2020.
Obaseki’s fallout with Oshiomhole led him to switch parties and secure a second term under the PDP, which will end on November 12, 2024.
With Okpebholo now poised to assume office, the APC has successfully reclaimed its foothold in Edo State politics.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged triumphant in the local council elections held across Kwara State on Saturday, News360 Nigeria reports.
The APC secured victory in all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, Muhammed Baba Okanla, announced the results in Ilorin, confirming the APC’s sweeping success in the polls.
At a press conference in Ilorin, he said “firstly, I’d like to express our heartfelt appreciation for your tireless efforts and commitment to factual reporting.
“Your professionalism has been instrumental in ensuring the transparency and credibility of our electoral process.
“The electoral process, which unfolded across the state’s 16 local government areas and 193 wards, witnessed the participation of five political parties: APC, APM, PDP, SDP, and Accord.
“Our electoral officers and returning officers from the field have filed their results, and I’m pleased to share the outcomes with you.
“After meticulous collation and verification, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all categories.
“Specifically, the APC has won all 16 Local Government Area chairmanship positions. The party has also secured all 193 councilorship seats.
“We commend political parties for their commitment to a peaceful election, which did not record any major casualty and the people of Kwara State for trooping out en masse to exercise their civic rights.
“We also like to appreciate security agencies for ensuring peace and orderliness throughout the voting process in a professional manner.”
Anthony Joshua has suffered the second knockout defeat of his career, falling to Daniel Dubois in their all-British heavyweight title fight at Wembley Stadium.

Olumide Akpata, Labour Party (LP) candidate in the Edo Governorship Election, has lost his polling unit to candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, News360 Nigeria gathered.
According to the result announced at Polling Unit 11, Ward 06, Oredo Local Government Area, Ighodalo polled 41 votes while Akpata trailed with 32 votes.
Monday Okpebholo of the All Progress Congress (APC) came third with 19 votes.
After casting his ballot earlier on Saturday, Ighodalo had baosted that he would win the governorship election by landslide.
“We will win this election by landslide and move our state forward by God’s grace. If there is anybody at home, please come out and cast your vote. We are not comfortable with the little shenanigans that is going on particularly from the APC guys.This is a single state election and INEC has all the time to prepare, so there was no need for the delay.”
“There are rumours that they are trying to undermine the election process. Many of them have been caught with ballot papers, PVC’s.
“The worst is that they go round trying to buy votes. They buy votes for N15,000 to N20,000. They are trying everything to subvert the process.”
He noted that the Nigerian military has take charge and shown that they can protect the people.
He said are not worried about the election because they have spent 10 months talking to people, telling them what we will do for them if they elect us.
“The people believed us and have accepted us all over the state. I don’t know the magic anybody will perform.The kind of numbers I am hearing from Edo North, Edo Central, Edo South, overwhelms me. You know in Nigeria, funny things happen. I don’t know the magic anybody wants to perform.
“I believe INEC will deliver a free and fair election until they prove otherwise. We will win hands down in this election.
“We are not happy about a few ongoing in some places but we will remain confident. One of our supporters was arrested at Uromi by some people with security outfit,” he said.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told Nigerians that there is no free beer parlour anymore, News360 Nigeria reports
He said the people must work hard, focusing on agriculture and should be patient with the government.
Tinubu said his administration was in the process of retooling and rebuilding the country’s economy and should be given the time to achieve this.
Tinubu made this known when the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, paid him a visit in Abuja.

Recall that the removal of the petrol subsidy on the president’s first day in office had tripled the pump price of fuel.
As of Friday, filling stations in Abuja sell between N950 and N1,100 per liter of petrol.

Ahead of the Edo State off-cycle governorship election slated for September 21, 2024, security operatives have arrested individuals suspected of being thugs allegedly sent by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The suspects were found in possession of guns and other weapons in the video obtained by News360 Nigeria .
The arrest was captured in a video shared by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on its X handle on Friday night. In the video, security personnel can be seen apprehending the suspects in a Sienna vehicle, while recovering the firearms and other materials.
In the background, voices can be heard repeatedly accusing the APC of sponsoring the arrested individuals to disrupt the election.
A post by PDP to accompany the video reads, “Security Operatives and the people of Edo State apprehend @OfficialAPCNg thugs trying to smuggle guns into Edo State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
“We salute the courage of the Edo people in their determination to ensure that only the Will of the people prevails.”
The APC is yet to react to this allegation and the video at the time of filing this report.
The governorship election is between three major candidates – Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
The Borno State Government has provided an update on the pledges and actual receipts for the Maiduguri relief fund.

“Kindly note that not all amounts listed were credited to the Maiduguri Relief Fund for the Borno State Government. Similarly, details of the redeemed pledges of donations and material support will be announced in due course,” the statement added.
Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, has reiterated that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, must be recognized as the leader of the PDP in his state.
Speaking after a meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) delegation, Mohammed highlighted that the decision follows PDP’s long-standing practice where state governors are leaders of the party in their respective states.
He described the meeting, which was led by PDP National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade SAN, as productive, aiming to strengthen collaboration between the Governors Forum and the NWC, while resolving ongoing issues within the party.
In a video obtained by News360 Nigeria , he said, “Along that line, we discussed extensively the need for collaboration between the PDP Governors Forum and the NWC so that some of the issues can be resolved, including the litigations that cannot be resolved, will be resolved on the table,” he added.
“It is along this line that we collectively agreed for the rule of law, and the delegation gave their firm commitment and support for the position of the PDP Governors Forum in Rivers State.”
“In Rivers State, where we don’t have the established practice in which any governor from the party is the leader of the party and will therefore have the party structure for sustainability.”
He added, “On behalf of the Governors Forum, we are very grateful to the NWC, ably led by the National Legal Adviser. We also discussed some legal issues that are lingering, and we used the opportunity to speak on behalf of the Governors Forum to ask the delegation to convey our appreciation to the Acting National Chairman of the PDP.”
“We insist that, please, those committees they have set up on reconciliation and disciplinary issues should work in a manner that will do it through consensus and agreement so that we will not at least create anything that can bring imbroglio,” the governor added.
He also stated, “We are behind the North-Central Zone of the party to be allowed to produce the National Chairman of the party. Precedents have been set in the past when Ahmed Mu’azu succeeded Bamanga Tukur and Ali Modu Sheriff came after him.”
“In fairness, the North Central should be allowed to complete its tenure. That is justice, that is fairness, and that is what the PDP stands for,” he stressed.
“Going forward, I assured them that the PDP Governors Forum will be meeting with them from time to time to discuss issues of unity and development of the party. We also want to interface with structures like the Former Governors Forum, Former Ministers Forum, and others.
“By the time the PDP emerges from the present situation, we will be ready, Insha Allah, to take over the leadership of the country in 2027. We will then build on the massive development of 16 years obstructed by the wasteful years of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).”
Shizzer Joy Nasara Bada, former Commissioner of Finance and Accountant General in Kaduna State under Nasir el-Rufai’s administration, was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at Lagos airport on Sunday.
Bada was reportedly attempting to leave the country, raising suspicions of an attempt to evade mounting corruption allegations, News360 Nigeria gathered.
The ICPC had been monitoring Bada’s movements following intelligence reports suggesting she might flee to avoid investigation.

Rivers state governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has suspended the local government committee chairman of the Akuku-Toru local government area, Otonye Briggs.
Fubara in a statement signed on Tuesday, September 17, by his chief press secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, said Briggs had been suspended with immediate effect.
The governor directed Bitebobo Nelson Amieye, to immediately take over as the caretaker committee chairman of the council.
Fubara ordered Briggs to hand over all council property in his possession to the new chairman.

The Lord’s Chosen member said: “Something entered my back, lifted me up. It carried me like aeroplane to express.
“When it reached there, it dropped me. When it dropped me, I turned to look at what carried me and as I looked it was lion.
“So when the lion dropped me, the place was very narrow and tight, it now raised one hand up and asked me to go like this (pointing to the left). When I go, the lion said bye bye.”
In another viral video, a lady said he fought robbers and took their AK-47 rifles.
In the footage, the elderly woman revealed that she was attacked by armed robbers.
She said she “Miraculously gained control of their guns and ensured the arrest of three of the robbers.”
Similarly, a man revealed that he survived kidnapping, machete attacks, and gunshot wounds “without injury”.
‘Don’t believe everything you see,’ Lord’s Chosen Church reacts However, reacting to the videos and the reactions trailing them, the Lord’s Chosen Church said the footages were doctored.
The Head, Public Relations and Media, of the church, Pastor Chidi Louis, described the videos as “a bid to discredit what God is doing.
“Nigerians should visit the Church’s platform and listen to the complete testimonies for better understanding. The woman defeated the armed men in a dream.
“Don’t believe everything you see on the internet. They just cut one part and made it look real. The woman was explaining her dream.
“The viral video is a fake one. It was doctored.
“Most of these bloggers are very wicked and devilish, they edited this testimony in a bid to ridicule the work of God.”
Also, the Lord’s Chosen Church media department, on its platform, described the clip as fake and urged the public to disregard it.
Furthermore, the church’s TikTok handle released the full clip of the lady’s testimony, clarifying that her story happened in her dream.
Renowned Nollywood actor Emmanuel France has passed away, leaving the Nigerian film industry and his fans in mourning, News360 Nigeria reports.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has announced that 281 inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri, Borno State, are missing.
The incident occurred after the facility was evacuated due to severe flooding in the area.
According to a statement obtained on Sunday by the service’s spokesman, Umar Abubakar, seven inmates have been returned to the facility so far.
News360 Nigeria reports that the service has also made public the details and biometrics of the missing inmates in an effort to track them down and ensure their return to custody.
Abubakar said, “The Nigerian Correctional Service has observed the flooding currently being experienced in Maiduguri, Borno State, and its environment.
“The unfortunate incident has left scars, bringing down the walls of the correctional facilities, including the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Maiduguri (MSCC), as well as the staff quarters in the City.
“Upon the evacuation of inmates by officers of the service with support from sister security agencies to a safe and secure facility, 281 inmates were observed to be missing.”
He, however, added that “it is important to note that the service is in custody of their details, including their biometrics, which is being made available to the public below.
“The service is working in synergy with other security agencies as both covert and overt deployments have been activated to look out for them.
“Presently, a total of seven inmates have been recaptured and returned to custody, while efforts are on ground to track down the rest and bring them back to safe custody.”
“While this effort is on, the public is assured that the incidence does not impede or affect public safety.”
