Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, addressed recent rumors claiming he had passed away, attributing them to envy over the positive reception he received at the burial ceremony of the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, News360 Nigeria reports.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha expressed dismay at the “breaking news” circulated by unnamed sources on November 6, 2024, alleging he had died in a London hospital due to a fabricated illness referred to as “acute gorilla.”
The statement emphasized that Okorocha, who had been present in Owerri for the burial, was in good health and has not been sick since leaving office in 2019.
“To all men and women of conscience,” the statement declared, “the correct breaking news is that Rochas Okorocha is neither sick nor dead. He has been hale and hearty throughout his stay in Owerri and has continued with his schedule, attending services in Abuja in honor of prominent Igbos, including Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.”
The statement also criticized the originators of the rumor, characterizing them as “dead in spirit” and accusing them of harboring resentment over the ovation Okorocha received at Iwuanyanwu’s burial. Okorocha expressed compassion for them, urging collective prayers for their spiritual healing, and rejecting any ill wishes toward them.
“Those who came up with this news,” the statement continued, “are angry about the ovation Okorocha received. We do not curse those whom God has blessed. Instead, we wish these individuals genuine repentance and a return to a normal life. We pray for them,” it concluded.
Three prominent oil marketers AYM Shafa Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited have called on the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, News360 Nigeria reports.
In a joint counter affidavit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1324/2024, dated November 5, 2024, the marketers argue that supporting Dangote’s bid to restrict the issuance of petroleum import licenses could destabilize Nigeria’s oil sector.
Dangote Refinery, in an originating summons filed on September 6, 2024, accused the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC), alongside several oil marketers, of violating Sections 317(8 and (9) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
The refinery contends that NMDPRA issued petroleum import licenses inappropriately, without proving a product shortfall.
The refinery is urging the court to declare that NMDPRA’s actions contradict its responsibilities under the PIA, as it has not sufficiently promoted local refineries like Dangote’s.
However, Shafa, A. A. Rano, and Matrix Petroleum countered that Dangote Refinery does not produce enough petroleum products to meet the country’s daily consumption needs. They further argued that Dangote failed to provide evidence to support claims of adequate supply.
The marketers insist that they have met all legal requirements to be issued import licenses by NMDPRA, in line with Section 317(9) of the PIA, and are entitled to continue their importation activities.
They stressed that monopolizing the oil sector would harm the country’s economy and emphasized their compliance with regulatory standards for obtaining the licenses.
The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for Nigeria’s petroleum industry and the balance between local refining and product importation.
“The import licences lawfully and validly issued to the defendants did not in any way whatsoever, cripple the plaintiff’s business or its refinery.
“The import licenses issued to the defendants by the 1st defendant are in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018, and other relevant laws,” they contended.
They insisted that giving Dangote Refinery the power of monopoly in Nigeria’s petroleum industry as it sought in the instant suit, would kill competitive pricing of petroleum products in the country.
Stressing that such an act would further deteriorate the country’s critically ailing economy.
They also added that it would “unleash untold hardship on Nigerians, all of which constitute a recipe for disaster in the polity”.
The marketers explained that if Nigeria puts all her energy eggs in one basket by stopping the importation of petroleum products and allowing the plaintiff to be the sole producer and supplier of petroleum products in Nigeria, with liberty to determine the prices at which it supplies the products, the prices of petroleum products will continue to rise and energy security will elude Nigeria.
They also noted that should the refinery break down being a monopolized sector, the country will be plunged into a hot mess of energy crisis.
“That in the event of any breakdown in or obstruction to the production chain of the plaintiff which stops it from producing Nigeria will be thrown into energy crises because it does not have the reserves that would last it for at least 30 days that it would need to order, pay for, freight and import refined products into tanks in Nigeria.
“That amidst the glaring absence of any credible and demonstrable proof that the plaintiff refines and supplies adequate petroleum products for the daily use/consumption of Nigerians, is a recipe for disaster in Nigeria’s energy sector.”
In another devastating attack on Zamfara State, bandits have struck communities in Wanke, near Gusau, abducting over 100 people, including women, children, and the elderly, News360 Nigeria reports.

In an interview monitored on the BBC Hausa Service, a survivor recounted the turmoil in Wanke, with residents fleeing in fear of more attacks.
“Near Sabon Layi, over 50 people were taken, and near Dogon Hayi, about 50 more were abducted,” he said, adding that the exact number was still uncertain due to the chaos and panic that ensued as locals scrambled for safety.
“The terrorists chased people as if they were hunting animals,” he added. “They pursued people on motorbikes, tracked women inside their homes, and abducted them. Some were intercepted while attempting to flee and were herded into the bush.”
He described how the assailants targeted multiple communities, including Gira, Ruwa Kusa, Dogon Hayi, and Gidan Kado, where they stole motorcycles, farm produce, and personal items like smartphones. They also looted shops for provisions.
Community members reportedly alerted officials in Wanke, but there has been no official response yet.
The survivor noted that these attacks have plagued their communities for nearly nine years, driving many residents to seek refuge in Gusau and other areas. “There are no animals here anymore,” he lamented. “Once night falls, everyone is filled with dread, as staying in these communities overnight has become extremely dangerous.”
The BBC Hausa report stated that efforts to obtain police comments on the situation were unsuccessful.

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested the owner of three dogs that allegedly attacked and killed a security guard at Pinnock Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos State, News360 Nigeria reports.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user with the handle @itzbasito, the security guard, who is yet to be identified, was seen lying dead as the Boerboel dogs approached his lifeless body.
The user stated that the dog owner unknowingly allowed the dogs to roam freely, leading to the attack that claimed the life of the estate guard on Monday night.
However, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday.
He posted, “The dog owner has been arrested and is in our custody.”
Responding to a user, @chukwuebukaolu2, who suggested that the death of the security guard might have been caused by a hit-and-run vehicle, Hundeyin stated that “Investigation is ongoing.”
A shocking incident unfolded in Lagos on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, when a commercial bus driver, attempting to avoid arrest for a traffic violation, set himself and Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) officials ablaze in the Mile 2 area, News360 Nigeria reports.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves across Lagos, occurred on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in the Cele inward Mile-2 area where the driver had been pulled over for violating traffic regulations.
In a video circulating on social media sighted by News360 Nigeria, a yellow-coloured 14-passenger city bus was parked almost in the middle of the road with at least 8 traffic officers clustered in front of it while involved in an argument with the driver.
In a twinkle of an eye, fire erupted and caught the traffic managers unaware. Not all of them were lucky to escape unhurt.
A man suspected to be the driver is caught in the fire too. He runs into the middle of the road, struggling to pull off his white singlet. In the process, he is almost hit by a petrol tanker.
Adebayo Taofiq, the director of the public affairs and enlightenment department at LASTMA, confirmed the incident in a statement.
The statement reads; “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been made aware of a distressing video showing the driver of a Volkswagen T4 commercial bus, license plate LSD 355 CK, setting both his vehicle and LASTMA officers ablaze in a brazen attempt to evade arrest.
“This shocking event transpired today, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, when the driver resisted arrest with extreme aggression by LASTMA officials. The vehicle had been intercepted for violating traffic regulations in the Cele inward Mile 2 area.
“In the course of arrest, the driver and his conductor erupted into a frenzy, resorting to pouring petrol on LASTMA personnel and engaging in hostile confrontations and physical attacks against officers present.”
LASTMA added that the injured officer was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
“The injured LASTMA officer, who sustained severe burns, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment,” the agency stated.
Commercial bus drivers are not new to clashes with LASTMA and the Lagos state traffic officials.
In 2022, A commercial vehicle driver himself ablaze in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos, to protest the seizure of his bus by officials of the LASTMA.
Two LASTMA officials were said to have dragged him out of the vehicle and started the ignition for onward movement to their base at Oshodi.
As they were about to move, the driver, according to eyewitnesses, poured fuel on his body and struck a stick of matches.
While efforts were on to put out the fire, other commercial bus drivers and conductors, including passers-by, started hauling stones at the LASTMA officials, a development that degenerated into a fight between the officials and hoodlums.
Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency in Equatorial Guinea, has been arrested following a shocking revelation of over 400 sextapes reportedly involving the wives of prominent figures in the country, News360 Nigeria obtains report.
Engonga, 54, came under investigation for fraud, leading to an unannounced search of his residence and office, where officials discovered numerous CDs containing recordings of his alleged sexual encounters.

Reacting to the development on Monday, Equatorial Guinea has decided to take action by immediately suspending all officials who have had sexual relations in the offices of the country’s ministries.
The government claimed that the decision was part of its “zero tolerance” policy towards behaviour that compromises the integrity of the public service.
The Vice President of the Republic, Nguema Mangue, has pointed out that these behaviours constitute a flagrant violation of the Code of Conduct and the Public Ethics Law.

The council to the Federal Government led by Rimazonte Ezekiel has addressed concerns regarding the age of individuals arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests, asserting that those detained are adults, some of whom have children and hold academic degrees, News360 Nigeria reports.

Controversial Nigerian social media personality and crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, News360 Nigeria reports.
The arrest occurred on Thursday evening as Bobrisky was about to board a flight to London.
Eyewitnesses reported that authorities halted the plane just before takeoff and escorted Bobrisky off in front of other passengers.
Shortly after the incident, Bobrisky took to Instagram, writing, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
This arrest comes just days after Bobrisky was released on bail by Nigerian police authorities. Last week, he was detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme border while allegedly attempting to escape the country.
The crossdresser has been under investigation after an audio recording surfaced in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed he was permitted to serve his six-month jail term outside of Kirikiri prison due to “influential connections.”
The EFCC has confirmed Bobrisky's re-arrest, stating that he was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight and detained by immigration officers late Thursday night while attempting to leave the country for London.
Bobrisky's legal troubles began earlier this year when he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse.
Reports later suggested that he was moved to a private location after three weeks, allegedly facilitated by a ₦15 million bribe to ensure preferential conditions.
The recent arrest at Lagos Airport adds to the ongoing legal challenges faced by Bobrisky, as authorities continue to investigate allegations against him.
Deji Adeyanju, the Nigerian lawyer, says the police have detained VeryDarkMan, the social media critic, News360 Nigeria reports.
In a Twitter post on Thursday evening, the lawyer said the activist, born Martins Otse, was detained after honouring the police invitation.
Adeyanju lamented that his client was taken into custody despite cooperating with the police authorities.
“Our client, VDM has been detained after honouring police invitation just like yesterday. VDM who has been consistent in saying the Nigerian Police are our friends even when we all know they are not,” the tweet reads.
The development comes after VeryDarkMan shared a video of himself in a matching suit. In the footage, he said he was heading to the police station in Abuja to respond to the invitation.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has issued a public alert on the Nivea Roll-On deodorant recalled by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) Authorities over safety concerns, News360 Nigeria reports.
The NAFDAC said that the recalled cosmetics is Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml marked 48H Protection in African Climate with batch number: 93529610.
According to NAFDAC, the European Union (EU) Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels recalled the product produced by Germany for containing a chemical prohibited in cosmetics because they are harmful to health.
“The recalled Nivea product is said to contain 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl propionaldehyde (BMHCA), a chemical prohibited in cosmetics products due to its ability to cause harm to the reproductive system, impairs the health of an unborn child as well as skin irritation and burns to users,” NAFDAC said.
The agency warned, “Importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers are advised to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid the importation, distribution, sale, and use of the above-mentioned Nivea Roll-on with the affected batch.
“Members of the public in possession of the affected batch of product should discontinue the sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
“Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office.”

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services,Rev. Akinyemi Akinyinka, said they received distress calls from the people in the neighbourhood at 2am.
According to him, “May I inform you that Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at around 2 am this morning at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan, of which 10 persons has been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while 7 persons rescued alive.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), News360 Nigeria reports.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, Major General Oluyede will temporarily lead the Nigerian Army during the absence of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who is currently receiving medical treatment abroad.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS),” the statement read.
“Oluyede will act in the position pending the return of the indisposed substantive Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.”
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, was on Wednesday, docked before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Kuje for allegedly assaulting a bolt driver at his Abuja residence, News360 Nigeria reports.
The lawmaker, who is representing Aba North and South federal constituency of Abia State, pleaded not guilty to a First Information Report that the Nigerian Police Force entered against him before the court.
The charge against the defendant bordered on abuse of office, assault, and threat to life.
Meanwhile, following the defendant’s plea of innocence, the prosecution counsel, Mr. A. Umar, applied for a date for full-blown hearing to commence in the matter.
However, counsel to the defendant made an oral application for his release on bail, pending the determination of the case.
The defendant contended that the charge against him contained bailable offences, adding that his right to presumption of innocence was guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
In his ruling, Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id held that he was minded to accede to the defendant’s application for bail.
Consequently, he granted the lawmaker bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.
The court stressed that the sureties must not only reside within its jurisdiction but also provide their utility bills as proof of residence.
It subsequently adjourned the matter to November 8 for trial.
It will be recalled that Hon. Ikwechegh was seen in a video clip that went viral on social media platforms, repeatedly slapping a bolt driver identified as Stephen Abuwatseya
Irked by what he described as the driver’s rude behaviour towards him, the federal lawmaker boasted that he could make him disappear without trace and nothing would happen.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, a senior lecturer and Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), News360 Nigeria reports
Prof. Ujam, who also teaches in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, was allegedly kidnapped on Sunday morning along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers have yet to make any ransom demands regarding Ujam’s release.
This incident follows the recent abduction of Emeason Chima, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), along the same route. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that passengers in a commercial bus were abducted on the same road last Friday.

No fewer than 40 people are trapped under the rubble of a building that collapsed on Saturday in the Sabon Lugbe area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, News360 Nigeria reports.
As of press time, sympathizers and emergency workers are on-site, working to rescue those still caught beneath the debris.
The building, reportedly under construction, collapsed in the early hours, prompting calls for immediate intervention from government agencies and emergency response teams.

“No fewer than 40 persons are currently trapped in a building collapse that occurred in the Sabon Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. People are under this rubble. It is a building under construction. We are calling on the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here,” an eyewitness said.
This incident comes just weeks after a section of a two-storey residential building collapsed in Abuja’s Kubwa area. In that case, four people were rescued, while an unconfirmed number of others were initially feared trapped. The Kubwa building was located close to Cupid Hotel on Sultan Dasuki Way.
