Joshua, whose ancestral roots are in Sagamu, Ogun State, has consistently expressed his connection to his Nigerian heritage despite his global fame as a boxing icon.
The meeting, held at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, saw Governor Abiodun and his team warmly welcoming the champion. The governor later expressed his delight at the visit through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he shared moments from the encounter.
He wrote: “Today, we had the distinct honour of welcoming @anthonyjoshua, the world-acclaimed boxing champion and a proud son of Ogun State, to our office during his courtesy visit.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, marking a significant step towards addressing educational and developmental needs in the region, News360 Nigeria reports.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who revealed this, also disclosed that there are ongoing discussions to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
Shettima gave the hint at the weekend during a condolence visit to the Kukah family on the death of His Highness, Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom and family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, in Ikulu Kingdom, Kamuru, Zangon Kataf council area of Kaduna State.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said: “with Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna”.
Speaking at the residence of the late traditional ruler, the Vice President emphasized the commitment of the President Tinubu administration to the development of Southern Kaduna, citing the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the President’s attention to the security needs of the region.
“Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” he stated.
Shettima also commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive governance approach, stating that “government is about linking all component parts to have a sense of belonging.”
He pledged that the federal government will work with the state government to ensure development reaches Southern Kaduna, particularly in road infrastructure.
Earlier, Bishop Kukah expressed gratitude to the Vice President on behalf of the family over the visit, saying, “I want to thank you on behalf of this family. Thank you for being with us.
“You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken. I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and a friend of this community. We are honoured to have you,” he added.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is about to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, News360 Nigeria reports.
The group’s Speaker, Oko-Jumbo, read Governor Fubara’s letter requesting permission to present the appropriation bill today, at their plenary a moment ago.
This will mark Governor Fubara’s second budget presentation since assuming office in May 2023, both occurring under a cloud of legislative disputes.
Last year, Governor Fubara presented his inaugural budget to a four-member Assembly led by Edison Ehie, who was recognized as Speaker by a State High Court.
This followed the defection of 27 Assembly members, including then-Speaker Martin Amaewhule, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amid legal battles and political intervention, including input from President Bola Tinubu, Ehie eventually resigned from the Assembly and was subsequently appointed Chief of Staff to the Government House.
The crisis deepened as the three remaining members of the House after Ehie’s exit maintained their legitimacy, citing Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which they argued is self-executing in cases of defection without a crisis in the parent party.
The trio, consisting of Oko-Jumbo (Bonny Constituency as, Speaker), Adolphus Timothy (Opobo/Nkoro Constituency as Deputy Speaker), and Sokari Goodboy (Ahoada West as Leader of the House), assumed the Assembly’s leadership.
They have consistently carried out legislative functions, often in alignment with the Fubara-led administration.
Meanwhile, the 27 defected members have since reversed their decision and continue to attend functions as PDP members and hold sessions under Martin Amaewhule’s leadership, frequently opposing the government’s policies.
As part of the twist in Rivers State’s ongoing political and legislative crisis, both the Federal High Court and the Appeal Court nullified the N800Bn 2024 Appropriation Bill of the state, halting its implementation.
A Federal High Court also halted the disbursement of Federal Allocation to the State, but that decision was overturned by the Appeal Court.
Judicial pronouncements regarding the disputes over the 2024 budget presentation have also affirmed Amaehule’s leadership.
However, the Oko-Jumbo-led House maintains that no clear ruling has been made concerning the defection of Amaehule and 26 others.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for a comprehensive investigation into a viral video showing a group of armed, uniformed individuals performing a military-style drill in honour of President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, News360 Nigeria reports.
The footage, which has sparked widespread criticism and debate, led Atiku to describe the incident as a breach of military protocol.
In a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, on Sunday, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed his concern over the event and its implications.
“It is with utter dismay and concern that Nigerians were subjected to a nauseating video circulating online, where a group of young men, armed and in full military procession, bestowed upon the President’s son unwarranted military honours,” the statement read.
Atiku pointed out that the group involved, identified as the “Nigeria Cadet Network,” is not recognized within the Nigerian Armed Forces, questioning its legitimacy.
He highlighted that the term “Cadet,” typically reserved for formally trained military personnel, appeared to have been misused by civilians in this case.
“In an effort to uncover the truth behind this shameless procession, we instructed our legal team and military experts to investigate the so-called ‘Nigeria Cadet Network.’
“To no one’s surprise, it was revealed that the group is not a legally registered entity,” Atiku noted.
The former Vice President also raised concerns over the apparent use of firearms by the group, emphasizing the dangers posed by illegal arms proliferation in the country.
Atiku called on relevant security agencies to urgently investigate several key issues, including the legality of the “Nigeria Cadet Network,” the source of the firearms displayed, and the appropriateness of granting military honors to a non-official figure.
“If it is determined that any legal violations were committed by the President’s son or members of the so-called ‘Nigeria Cadet Network,’ it is the constitutional duty of Nigerian security agencies to ensure that the law takes its course and those responsible are held accountable,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources close to the Tinubu family have downplayed the controversy, claiming the event was organized by a voluntary youth group as a display of solidarity rather than an official military endorsement.
One of the event organizers, speaking anonymously, said, “The parade was simply an honor by a youth-based civic group, not the military. Seyi Tinubu has been a role model to many young people, and this was their way of showing appreciation.”
The Nigerian military has yet to issue an official response, leaving unanswered questions about the event’s legality and broader implications.
Jimmy Carter, the 100-year-old former US president and Nobel peace laureate who rose from humble beginnings in rural Georgia to lead the nation from 1977 to 1981, has died, his nonprofit foundation said Sunday, News360 Nigeria reports.
Carter had been in hospice care since mid-February 2023 at his home in Plains, Georgia — the same small town where he was born and once ran a peanut farm before becoming governor of the Peach State and running for the White House.
Carter died “peacefully” at his home in Plains, “surrounded by his family,” The Carter Center said in a statement.
“My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights and unselfish love,” Chip Carter, the former president’s son, said in the statement.
Carter was the oldest living ex-US leader and the nation’s longest-lived president — an outcome that seemed unlikely back in 2015 when the Southern Democrat revealed he had brain cancer.
But the US Navy veteran and fervent Christian repeatedly defied the odds to enjoy a long and fruitful post-presidency, after four years in the Oval Office often seen as disappointing.
During his single term, Carter placed a commitment on human rights and social justice, enjoying a strong first two years that included brokering a peace deal between Israel and Egypt dubbed the Camp David Accords.
But his administration hit numerous snags — the most serious being the taking of US hostages in Iran and the disastrous failed attempt to rescue the 52 captive Americans in 1980. He also came in for criticism for his handling of an oil crisis.
In November of that year, Republican challenger Ronald Reagan clobbered Carter at the polls, relegating the Democrat to just one term. Reagan, a former actor and governor of California, swept into office on a wave of staunch conservatism.
– Active post-presidency –
As the years passed, a more nuanced image of Carter emerged — one that took into account his significant post-presidential activities and reassessed his achievements.
He founded the Carter Center in 1982 to pursue his vision of world diplomacy, and he was the recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his tireless efforts to promote social and economic justice.
He observed numerous elections around the world and emerged as a prominent international mediator, tackling global problems from North Korea to Bosnia.
Carter, known for his toothy smile, said basic Christian tenets such as justice and love served as the bedrock of his presidency. He taught Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist, his church in Plains, well into his 90s.
In recent years, he had received various hospital treatments, including when he revealed in August 2015 that he had brain cancer and was undergoing radiation.
US Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia, who is the pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church where Martin Luther King Jr preached, wished the Carter family comfort as the former president entered hospice last year.
“Across life’s seasons, President Jimmy Carter, a man of great faith, has walked with God,” Warnock wrote on X, then Twitter.
“In this tender time of transitioning, God is surely walking with him.”
In April 2021, President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, met with the Carters at their home in Plains.
The White House later released a photo showing the couples smiling together, although only Rosalynn was seen by the press outside, bidding the Bidens farewell while using a walker.
Rosalynn, Carter’s wife of 77 years, died on November 19, 2023 at age 96.
The former president, who looked frail, poignantly appeared at her memorial service in a wheelchair, with a blanket on his lap bearing their likenesses.
Carter is survived by the couple’s four children, three sons and a daughter.

Azuka recently reclaimed his mandate after a court nullified the election of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Semiu Adeniran, the Statistician-General of the Federation and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), has been interrogated by the Department of State Security (DSS) following the release of a controversial crime survey report by the Bureau, News360 Nigeria reports.
Adeniran was reportedly arrested on Wednesday after the NBS published its “Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey,” which has sparked significant backlash.
The survey, released on Tuesday, revealed alarming figures, including that Nigerians paid N2.23 trillion as ransom to kidnappers between May 2023 and April 2024. It also reported that an estimated 51.89 million crime incidents were recorded across households in the country during the same period.
The North-West region topped the crime charts with 14.4 million cases, followed by the North-Central region with 8.8 million incidents.
The report has drawn sharp criticism, with government sources viewing it as a setback for the administration’s efforts to combat insecurity.
A senior NBS official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed Adeniran’s arrest, stating, “The CEO is being interrogated by the DSS over the report.
The operatives raided our headquarters, seized computers, crime survey documents, and took Mr. Adeniran into custody.”
It was also revealed that the survey had been allocated N2 billion for its preparation, but Adeniran allegedly bypassed standard procedures by releasing the report without consulting security agencies or the Minister of Finance, Atiku Bagudu.
The report has reportedly angered both the President and the Minister, who felt the findings embarrassed the government and its security agencies.
In the wake of the controversy, the NBS announced that its official website had been hacked.
The Bureau urged the public to disregard any unofficial communications or reports until the site was fully restored, raising suspicions that the cyberattack was related to the backlash against the survey.
Efforts to contact the NBS spokesperson for comment went unanswered, and the developments have raised concerns about the potential political interference in the Bureau’s operations.
The NBS, as the primary agency for data collection and analysis in Nigeria, plays a crucial role in shaping public policy.
Observers worry that such actions could undermine the agency’s independence and its credibility.

Central Mosque has this in front of their gate.”

@shinoremy wrote, “The issue with the banner isn’t whether it is true or not. However, it is aimed at countering a religious doctrine, and coming from a religion like Islam could possibly incite religious conflicts. We need to do better as a people and just respect ourselves.”
An influencer @GuyMr0 said, “That’s the hard truth. Jesus Christ is not God. He’s a Messenger of God. If Jesus Christ is God, then who was God before Jesus Christ was born?”
@Haceboiy wrote, “So what bad about that? or is Jesus God? NO” so the mosque was very right as to remind the novice who know not about the scriptures but following pastors teachings & churches doctrine to realize their senses that Jesus is a son of man who came from Jerusalem in the Middle East.”
@Mrmara0110 noted, “My question is… What’s the reason behind them mounting the banner with such write-up.. What’s their reason for putting that banner?”

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has drawn a biblical analogy, likening Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s time in the Labour Party to that of a prodigal son who will eventually return home, News360 Nigeria reports.
Keyamo made the statement during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Abia International Airport, reflecting on Otti’s political journey.
Governor Otti, who was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020 after leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), later joined the Labour Party, under which he contested and won the 2023 gubernatorial election.
“The President’s motivation was also the fact that he loves the governor of this state, he loves his spirit. I know the comments he has made about the governor of this state and how much people here love him so much.
“Today is not the day for politics, he strayed away, he was with us, he strayed away like the prodigal son.” He said
Speaking further Keyamo explained how it was upgraded to an international airport rather than the initially planned airstrip.
“When I called Dr Alex Otti and I broke the news to him, he said no, I will partner with you, I will also put in counterpart funding, let us upgrade it to an international airport. This was what happened. As minister of aviation, I’m just telling you the trajectory.”
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday, said he doubted if the release of the detained leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, would end the pervasive insecurity in the South-East, News360 Nigeria reports.
Soludo argued that criminals had hijacked the Biafran struggle and were now exploiting the Biafran struggle and Kanu’s name to perpetrate organised crime and fuel insecurity in the South-East region.
Soludo noted that under the guise of agitation, these individuals had turned to “lucrative criminality,” engaging in armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and idolatry.
He insisted that their activities have nothing to do with the genuine liberation struggle, stating that such crimes are purely driven by greed and lawlessness.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia on Tuesday, Soludo revealed that over 99 per cent of criminals arrested in Anambra in the past two years were Igbo, with more than 70 per cent being non-indigenes of the state.
“The so-called agitators have transformed into organised criminal gangs,” Soludo said. “They hide in forests, kidnapping innocent citizens for ransom, and they justify their atrocities under the pretext of Biafra. Let us be clear—this has nothing to do with any liberation movement. Criminality has taken on a life of its own. These people have tasted blood, and now, money is their motivation.”
The governor expressed doubt that the release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, would end the crisis, as the criminals appear to have severed ties with the original agitation.
“Kanu and IPOB have repeatedly dissociated themselves from these criminals,” Soludo explained. “Even if Nnamdi Kanu is released today, I’m not sure they would listen to him because what they now pursue is wealth, not liberation. They have become enemies of the people they claim to protect. Who are they fighting for when they kidnap and kill their own people?”
Soludo further decried the complicity of some communities in shielding these criminals, adding that insecurity in the region was sustained because some locals viewed security agencies as adversaries and the criminals as liberators.
“Our people know these criminals. They are our brothers, cousins, and neighbors,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that in some communities, people contribute food to sustain these criminals hiding in the forests. How do you fight insecurity when people see criminals as heroes and the police as the enemy?”
The governor announced the plan to launch ‘Operation Udo Ga Chi’ (Operation Peace Shall Reign), a state-wide security initiative scheduled to commence after January 25.
The operation, Soludo said, would deploy 163 branded vehicles for stop-and-search activities and integrate advanced surveillance technology to track criminals and secure forests.
“We are intensifying our security measures with both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches. We have trained forest guards to work with vigilantes and LG authorities to reclaim our forests. I call on these criminals to embrace our amnesty window, which remains open until the end of February,” Soludo added.
Calling for collective action, Soludo urged religious leaders, traditional rulers, and residents to take ownership of their communities and cooperate with security agencies.
“Insecurity is a monster that must be confronted collectively,” the governor emphasized. “If you see something, say something. Anambra will no longer be a haven for criminals masquerading as freedom fighters.”
He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and security agencies for their support, reiterating his administration’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure lasting peace and security.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a 2025 budget expenditure of N47.96 trillion, reflecting a 36.8% rise compared to the 2024 budget, News360 Nigeria reports.
This decision was reached during the Council’s final meeting of 2024, held on Monday at the State House, Abuja.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu highlighted the key economic parameters underpinning the 2025 budget framework. These include an oil price benchmark of $75 per barrel, a daily oil production estimate of 2.06 million barrels, and an exchange rate projection of N1,400 to the dollar.
The proposed revenue for the year is set at N34.82 trillion, leaving a budget deficit of N13.13 trillion, equivalent to 3.89% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Bagudu noted that the budget incorporates amendments recommended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as presented by the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu.
“Today, the Federal Executive Council approved the budget proposals for 2025 with amendments which Mr president directed following a presentation to the Federal Executive Council led by the Director General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu.
“The 2025 framework is based on oil price benchmark of $75 per barrel. Oil production of 2.06 million barrels per day. Exchange rate of one 1400 naira (to the dollar).
“All these are already included in the medium term expenditure framework which we have presented here, which have also been approved by the National Assembly.
“So the total projected revenue for 2025 stands at N34.82tn out of which the expenditure is projected at N47.96tn which is an increase of 36.8% from the 2024 estimate. The deficit for 2025 is projected at N13.13tn representing 3.89% of GDP”, Bagudu said.
Meanwhile, the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly by President Tinubu might not hold on tomorrow (Tuesday).
Reacting to a question after the Council meeting the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed that discussions were ongoing that might lead to the postponement of the budget presentation to Wednesday.
The Minister, who noted that the discussions were yet to be concluded, however said the possibility is there that the budget will be presented to the National Assembly on Wednesday instead of the Tuesday earlier announced by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Akpabio, had, during plenary, last week announced that President Tinubu will present the 2025 budget on Tuesday
The Federal Government has announced the renaming of the University of Abuja to Yakubu Gowon University in honor of Nigeria's former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, who recently marked his 90th birthday, News360 Nigeria reports.
The decision was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press briefing at the State House on Monday.
The announcement followed a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Idris stated that the proposal to officially change the university's name would be forwarded to the National Assembly for formal approval.
The renaming recognizes General Gowon’s contributions to Nigeria's unity and development, reflecting the government's commitment to honoring national icons.
The Supreme Court, on Monday, dismissed a suit seeking to sack President Bola Tinubu from office, News360 Nigeria reports.
The apex court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel of justices, awarded a fine of N5 million against the plaintiff, Chief Ambrose Owuru, who was the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party, HDP, in the 2019 general election.
The panel, which was led by Justice Uwani Musa Abba-Aji, warned the Registry of the Supreme Court not to accept any frivolous originating summons from the plaintiff again.
In the legal action he filed directly at the apex court, Owuru, among other claims, alleged that President Tinubu is an active agent of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States of America (USA), a position he argued makes him unfit to occupy the presidential seat.
The plaintiff equally urged the apex court to disqualify Tinubu on the account that he had earlier forfeited the sum of $460,000 to the government of the USA in a drug-related case.
He specifically prayed the Supreme Court to invoke section 157 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and oust Tinubu from office for being under the control of foreign authorities.
Besides, Owuru, whose political party, HDP, had since been de-registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in his suit marked SC/CV/667/2023, joined ex-President Muhammadu Buhari as a defendant in the matter.
According to the British-trained lawyer who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1982, ex-President Buhari’s tenure was illegal.
Owuru alleged that though he was the valid winner of the 2019 presidential poll, Buhari hijacked his mandate and piloted affairs of the country for eight years.
He claimed that a suit he earlier lodged before the apex court to kick Buhari out of office was technically jettisoned by the court due to a mix-up in the hearing dates.
Consequently, he argued that upon the disqualification of Tinubu for being unfit to hold the top job, the apex court should pronounce him as president and order his immediate inauguration to enable him to reclaim his usurped mandate.
Aside from President Tinubu and Buhari, other defendants in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Meantime, when the matter was called up for hearing on Monday, the plaintiff, who wore his lawyer’s wig and gown, rose to argue his case by himself.
He was, however, ordered by the panel to step out of the bar and also remove his wig and gown before he could be allowed to address the court.
After he had complied with the orders, the justices queried the plaintiff on why he re-filed such a frivolous suit that had been dismissed three times.
The plaintiff’s attempt to convince the court to grant his prayers failed as the head of the panel lambasted him for conducting himself in a way she said was unbecoming of a lawyer that has spent over 40 years in the legal profession.
Besides the N5m fine, the panel threatened to forward Owuru’s name to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC, for appropriate sanctions.
It will be recalled that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal had on May 25, 2023, also imposed a N40 million fine against the plaintiff for filing a “frivolous” suit to stop Tinubu from being sworn in as president.
Owuru had also attempted to stop ex-President Buhari’s swearing-in.
He claimed that INEC assisted President Buhari to manipulate the outcome of the 2019 presidential election.
He contended that though the election was originally fixed for February 16, 2019, the INEC, about five hours to the commencement of the poll, announced a postponement and later held the electoral exercise on February 23, 2019.
Owuru claimed that prior to the postponement, he had emerged as the winner of a referendum he said was conducted and monitored by both foreign and local organisations.
He told the court that he had, at the end of the said referendum, garnered over 50 million votes, which he said was far and above the number of votes that other candidates that contested the presidential election, including Buhari, secured.
Owuru argued that the petition he lodged against Buhari after the election was not adjudicated upon by the Supreme Court as required by law.
He claimed that his petition was unjustly dismissed by the apex court following his absence, which was occasioned by a discrepancy in the hearing date that was served to him.
He, therefore, urged the high court to validate his case by removing Buhari and declaring him the president.
He further applied for an order to compel President Buhari to refund all monies he “illegally” collected as salaries, emoluments, and security votes.
More so, the plaintiff prayed the court to halt the 2023 presidential election and order his immediate swearing-in as president for a four-year tenure of office.
Following the dismissal of his case and the conduct of the presidential election on February 25, Owuru approached the appellate court to stop the swearing-in of the then President-elect, Tinubu, a prayer the court refused.
Kemi Badenoch, leader of the British Conservative Party, has reignited controversy by sharing her unfavorable experiences with the Nigerian police during a recent interview, News360 Nigeria reports.
Badenoch, known for her previous contentious remarks about Nigeria, made the comments while speaking with The Free Press.
During the interview, which began trending on Saturday, Badenoch was asked whether she trusted the British police. In response, she compared her experiences with the Nigerian police, describing them as negative.
Responding to the question, Badenoch said: “I do. My experience with the police in Nigeria was very negative, and coming to the UK, my first experience with the police was very positive. The police in Nigeria would rob us.
“I remember the police stealing my brother’s shoes and his watch. It’s a very poor country, so people do all sorts of things.”
Nze Fidelis Chukwu, from Imo State, has been named the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, News360 Nigeria reports.
His appointment was announced in a communique issued after the Imeobi and General Assembly meeting of the socio-cultural group, held on Saturday in Enugu. The communique was signed by the Secretary-General, Ambassador Okey Emuchay.
Chukwu’s tenure, however, will be brief, lasting only 27 days to complete the Imo State presidency’s slot, which is set to conclude on January 10, 2025.
His emergence follows a series of leadership challenges faced by Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The death of Prof. George Obiozor in 2022 created a vacuum that led to the swearing-in of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu under a doctrine of necessity on April 30, 2023. Sadly, Iwuanyanwu passed away on July 25, 2024, and was laid to rest on November 1.
Emuchay said, “In line with the doctrine of necessity, the Imo Chapter of Ohanaeze, led by Mr. C. J. Ihemedu, presented Chukwu to the Imeobi Ohanaeze to exhaust the balance of the four-year tenure allotted to Imo.”
He said the motion for the adoption of Chukwu was moved by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Chairman of the Imo Council of Elders, and seconded by Chief Simon Okeke.
“In line with the doctrine of necessity, the Imeobi adopted the nomination of Chukwu as President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and the motion was unanimously adopted through a voice vote by the Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
‘The State Presidents of Ohanaeze Ndigbo of Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Rivers expressed delight over the nomination of Chukwu as the new President-General until January 10, 2025,” Emuchay added.
He further stated that Chukwu was sworn in as the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide by the national legal adviser, Mr Joseph Ojobu, and the assistant legal adviser, Dr Peter Aneke.
He said the Southeast Governors’ Forum, represented by Gov. Peter Mbah, charged the new President-General to ensure that the forthcoming Ohanaeze election should be both transparent and credible.
