Nah wah to GTB ooo, Thanks mahn, I think that's the best option right now sad Thanks a lot mahn.
bigfrancis21: Datanonymous,

GTB has long ago stopped the working of their ATM card in buying money orders at Walmart and other giant grocery stores after they discovered how cheap it costs(70 cents only) and how they were losing much money to people preferring to buy money orders(where the 70 cent charge goes to Walmart and none to GTB since it is a POS transaction) to using the ATM to withdraw where the bank gets N420 charge for them.

Just look for an ATM to withdraw your money and I would advise that you withdraw your money, the amount that you will need for sometime, somewhat in bulk and deposit into your US bank account so you wont get charged N420 GTB bank charge + $3 US bank charge(total of N920) each time you withdraw. Hoepfully, once you get a job on campus, start working and earning a salary you would depend less and less on withdrawing money back home frequently.
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by Datanonymous: 10:55pm On Sep 11, 2014
I just called GTB and they said there is nothing they can do cos the card is fine... Umh... Which other store sells moneyorder that you know of?
MsNas:
ATM. I think you can withdraw 1K at a go. Or better still try another store that Sell's money order. It might work. My card worked at my school's student Union Building caf when I bought a coke last week, I wanted to use it yesterday and it didn't work.

You could call GTBank too, my friend did and her card works just fine now.

Hello house, please what is the process for transferring to another school in the US, I think i need to move by spring. Anyone that knows schools that are generous with assistantships in the medical/paramedical line should please give me some tips. God bless.

Lol.... I like this
bigfrancis21:

Personally, I prefer the usual paper-and-pencil paper exam as that's what I have been used to all my life so I opted for the paper GRE. I wrote the paper GRE at Aba and scored well on it.

Which menial job in US that pays minimum wage of $7.5 per hour will pay you well? How do you even compare the pay of menial jobs to the pay of white-collar jobs of between $20 to $50 an hour? Don't put the cart before the horse even before it is time to hit the road. Which menial job in america will pay you well so as to cover all as-you-know-it expenses and leave you with much change to spare on partying, enjoyment galore and shopping? You need to wake up. It is only the rich and celebrities that live such luxurious life here.

As an Igbo man, I love dealing with figures. Now let us delve into the financials.

I assume you get a job at Walmart(which is almost impossible as you have work restrictions on your visa but I will assume so for I was taught in science to make assumptions) which pays $7.5 per hour and you work 75 hours a week. Mind you, for such a low-paying salary, you'll need to work as many hours as possible as your body can permit to break even. And for such jobs, you're not paid overtime as obtained in white-collar jobs where you work 40 hours a week usually, 5 days a week, and any extra hours spent on the job is overtime and you're paid at an overtime rate of 1.5 times your hourly salry.

MONTHLY EARNINGS:
300 hours(75 hours per week times 4 weeks) * 7.5 = $2,250 per month.
Tax deduction = $350 to $400 per month. Yes, taxation here is killing. In most states you are taxed both federal and state taxes.
Other deductions such as social security benefits = $100

Take home pay: $1,750 to $1,800 per month.

EXPENSES:
1) Health insurance = $110 per month. Health care is very expensive here and almost everyone here has health insurance that covers medical bills during times of ill health.
2) Rent = average of $500 to $600 per month. I am even being generous. Some places are as high as $1,000 per month. Except you decide to put up with as many roommates as possible to split up the cost.
3) Feeding = $200 to $400 per month, that is if you cook at home. Eating outside is very costly as you spend twice/thrice of the stated figure.
4) Transportation = $100 to $200 on fuel per month on fuel if you'll be driving or on bus ticket if you'll taking the bus daily to work.
5) Light bill = $200
6) Water bill = $150
7) Miscellaneous = $100
8.) Phone bill = $50
Total expenses = $1,610

How much left = $140 to $190 in savings.

Then you remember you will have to save some money. Then relatives and friends from back home with same mindset like you will be calling you asking you to send $1,000 so that they can start enjoying life as they are 'suffering' in Nigeria, because they think that Obi is picking up dollars from the street of America. Not knowing that Obi is still struggling to have mere $1,000 as savings in his bank account. Then you think of how you'll send the very little you manage to save from your daily hardwork, sweat and energy and becoming stingy becomes your watchword.

Remember that this is the so-called menial job you envision to do which you will wrench your back doing everyday and standing on your feet 12 hours a day. You then think of your future and envision yourself doing the same recurring cycle every month in a year for the rest of your life in America, the land of opportunities and a place of 24/7 work all seasons of the year with very little rest, then you smile to yourself and tell yourself 'welcome to America. Now I understand what these people have been telling me since.'

Okay, you decide to finish school and get a 'well-paying' job in the vicinity of $70,000 per year or $5,833 pre-tax monthly salary. Fine, the job is white-collar and you are one step away from breaking your back and standing 12 hours a day. Your life is one step better than the class of menial workers. However, you are still not free from the ever-attractive recurring rat race cycle that entraps millions of employees in America that comes with heavy bills to pay every month such as house mortgage, car loans, college loans, heavy tax deductions, monthly light and water bills, phone bills, internet cable bills etc. with very little to spare in savings.

Is this your so-called glorious vision of 'being well paid'?

My Ibo Chief. grin How are you sir? Great pleasure meeting and traveling with you sir eventhough u left with my pen. I actually saw you at the POE queue at JFK but then you later disappeared. Hope you were able to board your connecting flight early enough? Hope to see you again soon mahn. Stay Blessed.

Rijo02: Wat a long journey.........I thank God for journey mercies granted to all passengers on board Emirates from Naija to Dubai to JFK. Never knew I had a NLder on board, Datanonymous, until we stopped over at dubai. It was fun to have met such a humble fine yoruba guy. We didn't meet again when we landed at JFK cos he has an aunt yo chill with in NY but I had to connect to GA via US Airways.
Pls guys I will post my travel experience as soon as I can.....I truly need to sleep bt the worst is dat the sleep has refused to come.
Less I forget, I rejoice with all who are rejoicing n mourn with those whom it hasn't worked for.
@Stevecum.....continue to stay off those bad things you stayed off before you got your Visa. It definitely will keep you in a good work with the Lord.
All the best house.

Lol.... U got issues mahn, now it's vocalbulary? Telling me to go get my eyes cleaned is distasteful and unpleasant,so Vulgar in that context is perfect, I won't stay here and argue vocabularies with you. U made a mistake and I pointed it out to u... I even put please. Anyways, sorry bout the Tecno thing I actually thought u use a Tecno cos of ur screenshots.... Lol. I'm sure we all good now since its confirmed those flights are business flights not economy as u claimed... I rest my case.

Graviton2:

How is this post vulgar? — you clearly don't know the meaning of the word.

[i]Tecno? Just keep talking. I have neither the time nor patience for you
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by Datanonymous: 1:26pm On Jul 18, 2014
Yes Boss!!! Yw
slimmy05: I just confirmed properly now. Its business class. I was correct. I thought it was due to the fact that I didn't click on the economy. Thanks for this. I need to get a bold5 back.
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by Datanonymous: 1:21pm On Jul 18, 2014
Smh Bro... U don't need to be vulgar here... It's freaking business class, I don't need to argue with u... Use a computer and not ur Tecno
Graviton2:

You need to get your eyes cleaned, bro. Economy is written very boldly on the page — you should be the one confirming, not me.

Edited: Just went through a computer, it is still an Economy flight
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by Datanonymous: 1:37am On Jul 18, 2014
Sorry to burst ur bubble Bro, but that $4000 flight is Business class, the $1400 flight is the only available economy flight at that time, the rest are business and first class, confirm that page using a computer please!
Graviton2: For those going on about how "affordable" Emirates is compared to KLM, Delta, Lufthansa etc — be ready for a rude awakening. Enjoy this screenshot. I bring raw facts when issues are concerned, same cannot be said for most people. cool
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by Datanonymous: 2:10am On Jul 13, 2014
i just saw $1429.70 economy on emirates, maybe u should check it out
Doctoroma: Can anyone tell me if the amount emirates stated online from Lagos to JFK is thesame at their office because all am seeing is business ranging from 5000USD+. Is there no economy booking online or do i have to visit their office and if so kindly help me with their address. Thanks!
