As the world continues to evolve and incline towards digital technology, the need to build on this skill has been emphasised once more. The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Digital Bridge Institute, Prof. Mohammad Ajiya has said the future globally would be digital going by all indications as he urged Nigerian Youths to look inward as to fine challenges and fashion ways to solving them. The Digital Bridge Institute's Boss made the statement in Abuja during a live program known as 'Week Tech', with Kaftan TV while speaking on the impact of ICT in Nigeria, challenges, way forward and the role Digital Bridge Institute is playing for a better ICT in Nigeria. "The United Nation, Youth, and ICTs While access to technology and associated electronic content has significantly changed the lives of many people in developed countries, this is not always the case for those in less developed countries especially, Nigeria, and not until in the wisdom of NCC establishing Digital Bridge Institute, Nigeria would have been far backward. "We all know that Access to ICTs such as computers, mobile phones, and the Internet, especially broadband, remains a challenge for people in the developing world. In addition, the cost of ICT access (mobile phones and Internet) is much higher as a proportion of per capita income, but reverse is the case here, NCC with the help of the Digital Bridge Institute and the government has long ago curbed all these challenges. And for other challenges still been experienced, we urge all relevant stakeholders, including the government, civil society and the private sector to come together and work to provide an environment that fosters the development of nigeria people and enables them to realize their potential in the Information Society. ICTs transcend borders enabling the communication between Nigerian people from every corner of the world, helping in the promotion of dialogue and mutual understanding. It is important then that international cooperation in regards to the transfer of technology is fostered. "It is in the light of the above that the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy under the pilot ship of Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami resiliently found its feet on youth engagement in ICT to help enhance an efficiently access and maximize the ICT advantages to better their lives. "Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami’s immeasurable achievements has succeeded in solving a decade and three years problem of Right of Way which had impeded broadband penetration for donkey years. Not only that but also the erroneous act of destroying telecommunications’ equipment was also addressed by making it Critical National Infrastructure. Likewise, the Ministry addressed the problem of improperly registered sim cards that have exposed millions of lives and properties to danger by deactivating 2.2 million sim cards. "Also, Pantami succeeded in numerous policies and strategies not to only promote the communication sector but to also assist the Digital Economy, ranging from the National Digital Economy Policy & Strategy 2020-2030, National Broadband Plan 2020-2025, Sim card registration policy etc… "His commitment to the development of nigerians in ICT through the instrumentality of DBI has done well by instituting Digital Capacity Training Centres in Abubar Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere, Bauchi, Bauchi State, College of Health Technology, Kano Road Bauchi State, ATBU Teaching Hospital, Opp. Yan Doka Street, Bauchi State, Federal Government College, Azare, Bauchi State, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Games Village, Bauchi. “Establishment of Digital Divide Bridging Centres (DDBCR) With E-learning Facilities in Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Bauchi State, National Center for Petroleum Research and Development Energy Commission of Nigeria, ATBU, Bauchi State, College of Education, Tilden Fulani, Toro LGA, Bauchi, Bauchi State, Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Tafawa Balewa Estate, Bauchi, Bauchi State, Government Senior Secondary School Gamawa, Gamawa LGA, Bauchi State”. "The ministry in conjunction with DBI had executed digital projects across the country starting from ICT innovation Hubs, Digital Skills for Entrepreneurs and Innovators, Community IT Training Centres, Tertiary Institution knowledge centres, school knowledge centres projects and a host of others", he said. Reflecting on the impact of ICT, he said, "Technology, specifically ICT has played a central role in the lives of the Nigerian people’s rise to prominence on a global scale. It has helped them mobilize, collaborate, and given them a voice where there was none before. It has brought them together in response to social concerns. It has connected them across vast geopolitical barriers. "The International Telecommunication Unit (ITU) and Broadband Commission research has shown the benefits of ICT access across all major sectors. For young people, access to information means better access to capital, markets, and training needed to pursue a career or studies; increased participation in political processes, and recognition of youth as responsible citizens in today’s society. Youth entrepreneurship particularly which is facilitated by access to technology, the internet, and information – is fast being positioned as a solution for youth employment. "People are rising to the challenge by pioneering the use of ICT, and driving trends in what is a dynamic and major growth industry. While the good news is that they are using ICT, the challenge is to inspire them to use it to change their world in a positive way". Disclosing the achievements of DBI, Prof. Ajiya stated that 120,000 staff of tertiary institutions and 70,000 secondary school tutors across Nigeria have been trained in digital skills. "These academic instructors are expected to transfer this knowledge to their students in turn. That's the concept", he added The professor who is also an engineer noted that staff of the private sector, government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDA) have also been trained in digital skills courtesy of the institution. "Digital Bridge Institute runs five (5) digital diploma courses in Kano and Lagos campuses respectively. Our graduates can live in Nigeria and be working for establishments in any part of the world". Speaking on the impact of COVID-19 which has shown the importance of digital technology, he pointed out that the emergence of COVID has further shown that the future is digital. "In the course of the pandemic, teaching and learning have become digital. Classrooms have been decongested since people can learn from the comfort of their homes. "We are now in what is called the new normal. The pandemic has helped us to embrace digital skills. This has affected the method of teaching and examination", he said. Prof. Ajiya disclosed that NCC has gone down to the villages where it has established computer centers across the nation as he appreciated the effort of Dr Isa Ali Pantami, the Nigeria minister of communications and and Economy. He further said that Digital Bridge Institute does both up-skill and training of people with no knowledge in the area of technology. "The institute helps people utilise their devices and offers specialised courses. This course can be in the area of law where the staff of the Ministry of Justice is trained on how to gather evidence with the aid of technology, same to an Accountant, to a DSS, Police, Army officers, and all sectors. Pro. Ajiya admonished Nigerians and in particular the youths to look at the various challenges in the country and design solutions for them. "Once they can successfully do this, money will be at their disposal", he urged.

Engr. Isaac Balami bags Presidential award in Abuja, dedicated it to hard working Nigerian youths admonishing them to remain focus in their quest for a better life and a better Nigeria as wailing wouldn't make or a little meaning to the government. The founder and Chief Executive Officer of 7 Stars Global Hangar, the first-ever Aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhauling Facility in the West African sub-region who has also walked through the ladder upto being once the President of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, Engr. Isaac Balami, made this call during the 2021 Nigerian Youths Democracy Lecture, themed: 'Nigeria Democracy System and Good Governance, the Journey So Far', which was held at the NAF Centre on Thursday in Abuja. Engr. Balami who was one of the recipient of award for his outstanding personality and contribution to the amelioration of the plight of Nigerian youths said entrepreneurship demands resilience, patience and proper planning ranging from short term, medium term to long term as he dedicated his award to hard working Nigerian youths. Giving a brief author biography of himself, he stating that he started working at the age of 11 in Borno State, saw himself through school right from J S S 1 up till date. Due to this, he believes that he should contribute to the growth of the society. According to him, ‘’I come from an extremely humble Christian background in Borno state, a state in North-eastern Nigeria. My parents and grandparents were privileged to be Christians, my parents are also pastors. I grew up in a large family, my parents were not doing very well and found it hard to pay for the kind of school I wanted to go to. ‘’One thing I tell people is this, in life, you must know who you are! God did not bring anybody into this world for no reason, everybody has a reason why he or she is existing. My family named me Isaac because they believed I would bring laughter to the family, community and my generation. ‘’So, I remain focus though the future was still obscure then. At a very young age, I would do menial jobs like laundry, farming among others to augment the little money my parents had to go to school. But today, who would have thought that a mere labourer just years ago could have once be the National President of the Association of Nigerian Pilots and Engineers? Who would have thought that an ordinary ‘mai suya‘ in the north some years ago could become the past spokesperson of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria? Who would have thought that a filthy and stenchy soak-away evacuator from the North-Eastern part of Nigeria could become the President of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum? Who would have thought that a man who could hardly afford a daily meal could cater for over 500 widows and sponsor nearly 500 children in school as a commitment from a foundation he owns? Who would have thought that a helpless man who faced a lot of challenges would be the founder of Nigeria Rebirth Project?’’ he asked calmly. The business magnate appreciated the Nigerian Youths Congress for doing so much mega projects across the country. He pledged his commitment to support them. "Let us keep pushing, we can not continue lamenting. Nigeria is not suffering from witch craft but 'crycraft'. The more you cry, the more you remain in one position" he said. The Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first initiated by the OAU Organisation of African Unity. It honors those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976 on that day. It also raises awareness of the continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African children. In Soweto, South Africa, on June 16, 1976, about ten thousand black school children marched in a column more than half a mile long, protesting the poor quality of their education and demanding their right to be taught in their own language. Hundreds of young students were shot, the most famous of which being Hector Pieterson (see image). More than a hundred people were killed in the protests of the following two weeks, and more than a thousand were injured. On June 16 every year, governments, NGOs, international organisations and other stakeholders gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the full realization of the rights of children in Africa. In commemoration of this day, the Civil Society Organizations Strategy Group on Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria (CSOSG-SDGs), Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje, has applauded the Nigerian government over school feeding programe taking place within the states of the country. Speaking on EaglesFM 102.3 frequency on Thursday in Abuja, on the plight of the African Child, Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje also emphasized the importance of Health Post which should be the first point of call for patients seeking medical care. The CSOSG-SDGs boss, Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje said the money used in building one General Hospital can be used to build hundred (100) Health Posts and suggested that the distance between these Health Posts and patients should be one (1) kilometer at most while the persons manning these Health Posts should be well trained. "Once he/she can not handle a case, it at that point can escalate to the nearest Primary Health Center where nurses are stationed. By doing this, many illnesses would be treated and the patients won't have to visit General Hospitals. These Health Posts don't have to take in patients, the Primary Health Centers should, which will be less than 50% of patients", he said. Statistically speaking, he disclosed that in every five (5) minutes five (5) African children die. "In every one (1) hour three hundred (300) of them die and every day seven thousand two hundred (7,200) African children die from preventable illnesses resulting from malaria, hunger, and birth circumstances". Stating further, he mentioned that in 2013 one in every thirteen African children die before their 5th birthday which was the world figure twenty years (20) earlier, yet African leaders are quick to sign International Treaties but would not do much when they are back to their countries. According to Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje, within the first month of birth, 25% of Africa children die from preventable illnesses like pneumonia and diarrhea which is why emphasis should be laid on immunization, nutrition, sanitation, and provision of clean water. "Once this is done, children will spend more time going to school, parents would have more time going to work and make more money and the government would have more money to provide social services", he said. Similarly, the medical practitioner speaking on the need for adequate manpower noted that manpower should be provided with the necessary working environment in accordance with the standard of the western world. While fielding questions, Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje Stressed on the health of a mother, saying it is very important because her health contributes a lot to the well-being of the child. However, he lauded the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme of the Federal Government of Nigeria and advised that the Federal Government should introduce school farming where farming inputs are being subsidised. Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje encouraged public servants to develop personal belief in the country's health system by visiting the country's health facilities when they are ill. In securing the health of the African child, he emphasized the services of ambulances and blood banks. He said that ambulance services should be adequate, functional, and available and blood should be well screened and made available in large quantity. The medical practitioner resolved by harping on the need for increased budgetary allocation in the health sector all over Africa. "Once health is taken care of, many other things would have been taken care of automatically."
