The Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, has congratulated Nigerians as the country clocks its 61st independence, urging the Federal Government to dwell more on youth-related programs and policies. "This day is a special day for Nigeria and Nigerians. We congratulate ourselves and President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR for his one Nigeria pursuit, which has brought us thus far". The President, Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, Blessing Akinlosotu who made this known in a press release signed by his Special Assistant on media relations, Emmanuel Daudu, noted that the federal government should look inward and fashion out the best measures to curb unemployment. "I urge the federal government to route around the youths with programs and policies that would give the youth a sense of belonging. The youths should be engaged in politics, should be given opportunities to handle political offices in all levels of government, and be involved in the three tiers of government. If the government can look into this and adhere to these yearnings, I think Nigeria would be a better place", Akinlosotu said. Reacting to insecurity, he lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his resilience in fighting insecurity stressing that the best way to fight the menace is by providing the youth an enabling environment that would make them see no benefit in hurting their own country. However, Akinlosotu advised the youths to continue believing in the country stating that better days are just ahead. Happy Independence Celebration!

...Bags Africa Community Award The Nigerian Youth Ambassador to the United Nations and Secretary-General, Nigerian Youth Congress, Dr. Raymond Edoh has added another glorious feather to his feathers as he on Friday bagged the Africa Youth Community award in Abuja. The Africa Youth Community 2021 Young Africa Leaders Conference with the theme: “Keys to Achieving the Africa we want” held at the NAF centre in Abuja went informative and as well, educative as Dr. Raymond Edoh anchored a security class and the role of youths in the Nigerian politics as one of the panelists. The proposed two minutes talk as directed by the anchor wouldn’t end until fifteen minutes, yet the audience wouldn’t be fed up with the expository. The young eloquent Dr. Raymond Edoh while speaking on the Nigerian Youth’s involvement in politics urged Nigerian Youths to always forecast a good end while going through tunnel times especially in politics. “When you are talking about the solution you don’t talk about the problem. You use the problem as a strategy in getting the solution. Now, this is the solution. The solution is involvement. If in your locality they only picked someone and said you are the winner of this election and this person is not the winner of the election neither is he or her wanted by the generality of the masses in that constituency in question, then you should get involved more. How do you get involved? You organize your team and apply to INEC to observe an election. So if you have a youth organization in your constituency you can write to INEC for electoral supervision. I think with that we will be able to correct that”. Reacting to a question directed to him on security, he said, “the major challenge we have today on security in Nigeria is arms. Abuses of arms, how did this happen? After I respond to this question we would be paying a visit to other Service Chiefs. We would make our minds clear on what we need from them. For instance, I wanna talk about the importation of arms in Nigeria and their roles. First and foremost if you are a business person who deals in arms, before you take the step of bringing in these arms, you need to get an end-user so when you have this end user which means its an approval from the government that ok, you can bring these arms in as a business person. On my engagement with the customs in Lagos, for instance, I have seen a couple of containers of 40 feet loaded with arms seized by Nigeria Customs Service which I inspected personally myself. They were seized because their corporate process haven’t been taken by these businessmen. “So what these guys do is they bring in these arms illegally to Nigeria without the end user’s certificate which is wrong and these arms are being seized by the Nigeria customs service. So now what happens to our security agencies? I think we would be following up with the Service Chiefs on helping us to make sure that this never happens because if we have three 40 feet containers loaded with arms and these arms get to the wrong hands, there is no way all of us here will be in peace. So I think people are not really getting to the root problem of security in Nigeria and the root problem is to make sure that when these arms get in because when someone is hungry, you can’t work, there is no way a criminal can function without ammunition. You can’t function when you don’t have a gun but the gun gives you a high level of functionality. I think we will be going in around the Service Chiefs to put it to them”, he added. Highlights of the event were the presentation of an award on Dr. Raymond Edoh for his community developmental strides around youths in Africa. Reacting to the gesture, he congratulated the organizers assuring them of his continuous support. ” I dedicate this award to the African youths”, he said. Speaking further, he donated fifty (50) bags of Rice to participants at the event in a bid to encourage both the youths for availing themselves of such programs and the organisers for putting together such an international program.

APM Sensitizes FCT Party Leaders And Candidates On Party Manifesto Against 2022 FCT Council Elections The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has charged party candidates for the FCT Area Councils’ Chairmanship and Councillorship elections to uphold the motto of the party, INTEGRITY SACRIFICE SERVICE. He stated this on Thursday while declaring open a day sensitization program organized by the APM, FCT chapter for leaders and candidates of the party in FCT ahead of the 2022 FCT elections for the Area Council Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates on the provisions in the Manifesto and Constitution of the party to domesticate same in their campaigns for votes in February 2022. He reiterated that APM is a party that promotes inclusive participation of citizens regardless of tribal, religious, or ethnic affiliations and urged the candidates to imbibe the spirit of supporting the creation of an egalitarian society where equality and justice for all becomes the order of the day. He assured the candidates of the support of the party at the national level to facilitate processes that would engender smooth campaigns and provide guidance towards ensuring victory at the polls in 2022 and beyond. The National Chairman, Alh. Yusuf Dantalle further stressed that candidates must work hard to mobilize and sensitize electorates to participate in the ongoing Voter Registration and encourage them to go and register to obtain their Permanent Voters’ Card as it is the only weapon with which they can secure victory at the polls. He enjoined party leaders in the FCT to work with the candidates to work towards the party’s victory in the FCT. Similarly, the National Secretary of the party, Mr. Ayodele Oyadeyi also emphasised the need for mobilization of electorates to acquire their voter’s card as well as assured candidates of the readiness of the National Secretariat to provide institutional support towards victory of the party in the 2022 FCT Area Council polls. Resource person, Mrs. Rose Gyar The resource person at the program, the National Treasurer and FCT Senatorial flag bear of the party in 2019 Mrs. Rose D. S. Gyar informed participants that it is important they understand the provisions in the manifesto in order to work in line with the aspirations of the party because they are the flag bearers of the party in the forthcoming elections therefore, they are representing the party and not their selves. She urged them to work as a team with a unified purpose to domesticate the provisions of the party manifesto in their campaigns and beyond, while also being in constant liaison with the party leadership for appropriate guidance towards promoting good governance and providing accountable leadership that is responsive to the yearnings of citizens. She acknowledged the scarce resources at the disposal of the government to provide adequate services to the citizens but urged the candidates to leverage on the various strategies provided in the manifesto to stimulate creativity and innovation in order to surmount such challenges beginning from the campaigns. Mrs. Gyar who is also an advocate of good governance, ethical behavioural change, and inclusive engagement and participation of citizens in governance to enhance service delivery by state actors through her organization, Global Centre for Human Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development (GLOCHEED) did not hesitate to remind the candidates that their campaigns should be based on social contracting with the electorates rather than vote-buying. This she said would make them accountable to the electorates. She also did not fail to remind them that the party would not hesitate to have the candidates sign a performance bond as a tool for appraisal, encouraging all candidates who are youths to take advantage of the opportunity given to them to represent the party and do what is right so that it will encourage more youths to engage in political processes to support good governance. On the other hand, responding on behalf of the candidates, the AMAC Chairmanship candidate, Alhaji Bayero congratulated the party for providing such a platform for the candidates to have the opportunity to be informed and gain knowledge about the manifesto of the party and the expectation of the party from them as flag bearers. He, however, solicited for more engagements in order to continue to share information, acquire knowledge and discuss challenges to surmount them together as a team that is bringing solace to the common man, appreciating the organizers of the programme especially the resource person for drumming into their ears that leadership is about sacrifice, responsiveness to the yearnings of the people, and accountability of stewardship. He added that they would heed to the warning that electorates would use the same voters’ card used to vote them in to also use to recall them for non-performance. During his vote of thanks, the APM FCT chairman, Mr. Thomas Akuson thanked all participants, the resource person, and the National Leadership of the party for putting the program together and promised that the party leadership in the FCT would work with the candidates to ensure victory at the polls but solicited for the institutional support and guidance of the National Leadership.

Since he assumed office, he has been pushing hard for the agricultural sector and that's why the President suggested that as Nigerians we should grow what we eat and eat what we grow. Buhari has embarked on agricultural interventions that have so far become very central to Nigeria's economy as seen today. "Adamawa has been on the forefront in developing various agricultural policies that have been implemented by the present administration. Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme (P. YES) was launched to support the youths for agricultural purpose", he added. Dr. Yakubu Shendam, the Chairman Governing Board, while speaking with our correspondent, suggested that for a good security network to exist, crisis in our rural areas must be solved. "It's the rural areas that produce most of the food we eat yet they are faced with crisis. When they are in crisis, how can they produce and even think of ways to sustain such produce? So for food security and sustainability to exist, peace must be practiced", he said. Speaking also, Dr. Bobby Moreo the representative of the Ambassador of South Africa to Nigeria made it known that South Africa is seriously working with youth organizations in Nigeria purposely for youth dialogue. "Through this engagement, Nigeria and South Africa Youths will be able to tolerate, respect and unite as one for peace building. South Africa freedom won't be complete without the mention of Nigeria. South Africa is willing and ever ready to support Nigeria and her youths", he added.

The task of unifying the various ethnic, religious, political, and socio-economic groupings in Nigeria has remained a daunting national challenge more than a hundred years after amalgamation in 1914. This is particularly puzzling considering that all government regimes since independence in 1960 have made national unity their important agenda. Concomitant programs, policies, and mantras including institutionalization of the federal character principle, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), unity schools, national symbols, National Orientation Agency (NOA), and mantras such as “the unity of the nation is not negotiable”, among others have been adopted to facilitate national unity in Nigeria. Yet the gap between the various groupings seems wider as the nation is still plagued with ethnic rivalry, religious intolerance, political exclusion, the quest for self-determination, insecurity, power-sharing, and violent agitations to mention a few. To this effect, the Council Secretary, National Judicial Council, Ahmed Gambo Saleh, Esq, has stated that Nigeria’s unity is unnegotiable urging youth leaders to work immensely in the orientation of fellow youths in the country on the reasons why Nigeria must remain unified. Comr. Aminu Aminu, President YCSCD and the Council Secretary, NJC, Ahmed Gambo Saleh, Esq. Ahmed who stressed on the struggles of our forefathers in attaining independence noted that their efforts shouldn’t be traded with disunity no matter the reason. The Council Secretary, National Judicial Council, Ahmed Gambo Saleh, Esq who made the statement in his office recently in Abuja during a visit paid on him by a youth body known as, Youth and Civil Society Coalition for Development, YCSCD, pointed out that the younger generation needs to be oriented on the benefits of unity. “Agitations don’t pay, rather courses more harms. The youths are the engine room of every country and as such, the youths should come to realise this”, he added. Comr. Aminu Aminu, President, Youth and Civil Society Coalition for Development, YCSCD who led the National Executives of the organisation outlined series of programs and policies that the Buhari-led administration is executing in favour of the youths. ” N-Power: 500,000 enrolled in 2 batches between 2016 and 2020 receiving 30,000 monthly, with an enrollment of the 3rd batch of 500,000 in progress, NYSC Monthly Allowance increased from N19,600 to N33,000; more than 300,000 beneficiaries monthly, 75 billion Naira Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), for businesses owned by young Nigerians aged between 18 and 35, Special Public Works Programme to provide 3-month employment to 774,000 young Nigerians across the country (1,000 beneficiaries per LGA), $20 million Fund for Nigerian Tech Innovators and Entrepreneurs, managed by BOI, the National Young Farmers Scheme and the Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme (AADS). “Others are the “Creative Industries Financing Initiative (CIFI); DEEL – D – Digital Skills E – Entrepreneurship E – Employability L – Leadership. “Also, the NESP-Homes, the 5M Solar Connections Programme, the Energizing Education Programme, EEP, the Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme (P-YES), the Annual National MSME Awards, the National Survival Fund, and the 52% of loans disbursed by the FG-owned Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) in 2019 were to youths and women-owned businesses, among others as part of the President’s goodwill for the youths. Sallah message: GLOCHEED Boss Congratulates Muslims faithful, pushes for inclusive participation of women at all levels The Director-General, Global Centre for Human Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development, GLOCHEED, Mrs. Rose Gyar, has Congratulated Muslims faithful as she pushes for inclusive participation of women in political, legislative, and governance processes at all levels ie national, states/FCT, LGAs/ACs, and even communities... This she says would leapfrog national development and contribute to the restoration of peaceful coexistence in communities across the country. Women she said, are specially created as peacemakers and bridge-builders hence they could marry across cultures and inculcate multicultural values in their children. This serves as a tool for the promotion of unity among citizens. GLOCHEED boss, Mrs. Rose Gyar, an advocate of Citizens Inclusive Engagement and participation in service delivery and governance processes, MSME Development and Competitiveness as well as Women Economic Empowerment congratulated Muslim faithful as they celebrate another great season of Sallah, urging Nigerian Women to continue to inculcate moral values in their children while also encouraging them to live in peace with everyone wherever they find themselves, to desist from vices that could destroy their lives and flee from bad friends. She acknowledged the effect of peer influence but reiterates that women as mothers have a greater influence on their children if they play their roles appropriately. She also frowned at mothers who do not teach or train their children to adhere to the tenets of religious beliefs and call on all women to take the task of childbearing and upbringing as a religious obligation, reminding Muslim women that this Sallah offers yet another opportunity for them to have time to admonish their children against keeping bad friends, being respectful and obedient to parents and all elders, as well as act with patriotism as citizens of our great country. Rose made this known in a Sallah message made available to the press through her media aide, Emmanuel Daudu, in the early hours of today. The Director-General who expressed optimism that Nigerian women are capable of contributing positively to the sustainable development of our great country if given access to inclusive participation in governance processes. She enjoined the government to look around and identify Nigerian women with the capacity and capability to appointive positions, and the political parties to support women to achieve their political aspirations by providing a level playing field with their male counterparts in political contests and appointments. She pointed out that the economic empowerment of women would serve as an incentive to contribute towards bridging the gap of financial exclusion of women. She, therefore, advocates for special interventions targeted at specific identified female-dominated sectors of the economy to promote financial inclusion, especially at the rural level. She also decried that women in the rural areas still do not have Bank accounts, Bank Verification Numbers, National Identification numbers, and Voters Cards pointing out that this adds to the poverty level of the women since it limits their access to poverty alleviation services. She, therefore, called on the respective agencies responsible for the delivery of these services to put in more efforts in identifying relevant women groups to partner with them to create access to these services for women in rural areas. She added that there is also a need for more women to occupy political party offices other than women leaders to be on the decision-making table to provide gender lenses to every decision especially as political parties are preparing for various conventions and congresses in preparation for the 2023 general elections. Stressing further, she urged the government to create more windows in the MSME's macrocosm and soft accessibility schemes to better the lives of women working with identified Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) to identify operators in the sub-sector to benefit and grow the national economy, create jobs and reduce unemployment and poverty ravaging our country. Women's economic empowerment directly metamorphoses into a better life for the children and gives birth to a better society. She wished the Muslims a peaceful Sallah celebration and urged them to use the occasion to pray for the restoration of peace and security in our country, while also using the holiday to create awareness about women inclusive participation in governance, to support them explore their potentials to support the growth and development of Nigeria as citizens of our great country.
