Hello All,

I need your guidance. I'm currently in the UK via the graduate route. My family and I applied for our post graduate visa by December last year (our visas expired on Jan 17 this year).

We have received a couple of emails from UK gov asking us to upload my son’s biometrics because it wasn't captured during the visa application process done at home as he was 9 years old so we had his biometrics done via the app.

The issue is that I did the data capturing, filled the form and I know for a fact that I uploaded all the required documents. In addition, I have logged into his account several times and I'm unable to upload anything else as the biometrics segment is marked as ‘completed’.

I have sent numerous emails to a seemingly unattended e-mail address and attached my son’s biometric data. This Friday makes it 8 weeks since we applied and I have no idea what to do anymore. I don't know if anyone else has experienced a similar occurrence, I'd be grateful of you can advise how you navigated it.

Also, any guidance would be much appreciated.

Earlier this year, after many rejections, I got a job with a multinational oil and gas company with a gross pay of over £100k. Education is not scam, please remain focused on your goals and always remember your why. Lastly, have a vision board and commit every step into the hands of God.

Please ignore the agent. You are a matured student and it is acceptable for you to travel with your family. However, so ensure you do not plan to seek on campus accommodation as it’s not allowed for family living.

There are lots of house agents - Miles n Barr, Wards Lettings etc. the best place to start from is Rightmove or Zoopla. However there’s a WhatsApp group that also share information on rooms for short let if that’s what you are interested in.

if you have the means, you don't need to stay with anyone. You can book an airbnb apartment on booking.com and live there till you've rented your place.

This is perhaps one of the most testing journeys I’ve embarked upon in a long while.

Getting a biometric date was a big hassle so we selected assisted service for MA and self service for dependents. This was during the time people slept on TLS Ikeja website and couldn’t get dates for MA.

Biometrics for family of 3 - 29th June (we did walk in with our son)

Main applicant was served 3 NSFs (1 empty, 2 document request for TB certificate and academic documents)

Dependents got 1 NSF each on day 14 of application

After 3rd NSF for MA, we decided to send all documents, including education, POF, CAS, TB, etc.

Decision made 27th July.

Collection mail for MA and 1 Dependent - August 3.

Then the wait started. Our 2 year old’s passport didn’t move. We called, escalated, and waited. Escalation team sent an email on 14th day of escalation asking us to be patient as they work on it.

We became anxious as school mandated September 13th as last day to resume. We called again and UKVI said we either re-escalate and wait another 15 working days or do nothing and wait. We chose the latter by faith.

Mind you, at this point, our rented apartment had started reading and we were losing money already, 2 weeks rent gone.

Finally, dependent’s application moved to VAC 8 days after escalation team contacted us - September 8
Collection - September 9.

I’ve detailed this because I found that not many people talked about escalation and the timeline it took to get their passports back. The wait can be crazy and disturbing, the UKVI agents can be nonchalant, but it’ll all be worth it in the end.

Thank you all for the help, I’ve followed this thread for the last one year, read through chapter 6,7, and now 8! And I can say it’s a treasure trove of information. You guys are the best.

Since we are yet to have a thread where people can share their POE stories, I thought to share mine here.

The MA is my hubby and we travelled with our kids. We arrived yesterday, at London Gatwick and Our Entry Clearance officer is a British Lady.

She asked hubby questions such as
1. Why are you here?
2. Name of school and course?
3. What were you doing before you came here?
4. Are you being sponsored financially by anyone ( this was a trick question obviously)
5. Have you been to the UK before?

She asked our 5 year old daughter to confirm her name while she was looking at her passport. She was unable to get our 8 year old son’s details from the fingerprint scanner so she entered his passport number in her computer to confirm his picture matches his face. ( This shows that they do not joke with records)

She also asked my children to confirm my husband and I are their parents.

She didn’t ask to see our bank statements or TB certificates but while we were waiting on the queue, I saw other Officers requesting those documents from other people.

My advise is that you come along with all the necessary documents as it’s best to be over prepared and not need the documents than be under prepared and then need the documents.

But isn’t the company mail a standard? If you say your referee is your superior at work, I think it’s only fair that he or she sends their referral letter/email via official means.

So I was at tls and I was told I should go and fill a withdrawal form to collect my passport back before I can do another biometric but the lady there said she does not know how long it will take for the passport to return and my families application is already at dmc, I really hope it won’t affect there’s and the new biometric date I got is close by but my passport is not out yet

I truly wish you had checked with us here on Nairaland first before cancelling your application after biometrics. You didn’t state what propelled you to take this action but I’m certain it could have been resolved via other means such as writing a cover letter or email or even via NSF as we’ve seen others do here.

I have no idea what happens now but I truly hope that things work themselves out.

You won’t really understand sha. Since from all I said, all you chose to pick out is what you have picked out. All I can say is experience is the best teacher and I am not in any position and can never choose for anyone. I couldn’t care less if anyone takes what I say with a pinch of salt or a bag of garri. I have given my own experience and again the school is NOT worth the amount of tuition I paid. I could have gotten better quality education and experience for the price paid.
Anyone else can come and experience it, I’m not paying fees for the person.
Like Duchess rightly said, I am in the wrong, I should have done proper research before settling for it, again, I was desperate at the time and had limited options.
Maybe I haven’t put my issues with the school properly here but it’s a lot more than what I have written. Again, experience is the best teacher and everyone is welcome to pay millions to experience it.

@madamgift, I must commend your bravery and kindness in sharing your experience so far on UWL.

I can attest to some of the things you have said about the school. My MA had a terrible experience with the school even with their Nigerian representative. The lady acted like she was doing us a favor, would not pick calls, and even when she did, she was always snappy.

We experienced the same with the school admin officers in London. What broke the camel’s back for us was when they accused my MA of sending a fake transcript - something that was sent to them directly by UNILAG (this was back on Feb, just before ASU strike).

UWL indeed has a very poor ranking , they aren't even listed on some UK school rankings so I’m not surprised you equate it to a Polytechnic. Needless to say, my MA was fed up with them and we decided to look elsewhere because in his words, one should never go where they are not wanted or welcomed.

By providence, we were able to retrieve the same transcript from UWL, applied to University of Kent which though is more expensive, it has a much better ranking and so far, we have been treated with so much courtesy and kindness and surprise surprise, their Nigerian rep was equally nice and courteous… so I guess that tells you something about each school … lol

@justwise, I think you should consider starting a thread where people can give their candid review on their school of admission so that others can learn and make an informed decision before embarking on this expensive journey.

To prove our subsisting relationship we had to prove we have been living together and dating for at least two years. So we submitted verifiable documents that can prove our address and name.

Including but not limited to, Tenancy agreements, Rent receipt, Hospital card, driver’s license, delivery receipts, Car/police particulars, car ownership certificate, NIN slip, Vaccine card, bank statements showing money transfers between us. All these documents show our name(s) with address.

Goodluck everyone! You don’t need a marriage you’re not “ready” for to travel abroad with your dependent.
