@seun,I see this thread being derailed from its intended purpose.... |

HARDDON:To share atheist comedic videos ![]() |
paulGrundy:I don't know how best to tell you this, the definition of a delusion does not fit an atheist; " A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary" http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delusion You are the one that has a belief with strong conviction despite evidence to the contrary... so now ask yourself if really the belief you have is true and you believe it has no strong evidence to the contrary why are there different versions of the same beliefs and why do atheists still emerge from them? ![]() |
striktlymi:so if the man were to offer a calculation based on the billions of galaxies, planets and moons and then deduces that life as we know it were mathematical plausible to exist elsewhere...won't his view be justified? |
striktlymi:like? |
Mescopaul:whether you feel contempt or not.. it changes nothing I always think that a wise man never takes chances in life.yet, you take the chance of your religion over a thousand others Here as a human, you've heard and read about the coming king, about the end of the world and what you're to do to escape from the impending doom.I,ve heard about the coming of many things...from xenu of the scientologists to the norse end of days,ragnorok... Those claims and yours have several things in common.... They try to create the illusion that the common folk is flawed or broken and in need of transcendent judgement or repair....and then request you offer a myriad of things to the mediary men and women that act as translators for the deity/deities....and they all have insufficient evidences to support the claims...but all demand faith to be believed...if you can only believe anything by faith, you admit to it being unable to be believed on its own merits and qualities... For a wise person its pointless to argue about or doubt its truism.Going by your own sense of understanding or logic, why aren't you a polytheist? ...you doubt the faith based claims of other religions but still hold on to yours and yet you say a wise person does not argue or doubt the truism of "god"...so as a wise person....why do you doubt allah or thor? Now you neglect the warnings and teaching because you think it's all false, what you should understand about atheism is that we do not make a positive claim that "god" is false, otherwise we'd be the ones proving why the "god" claim is false.... I am still asking,if theistic claims scares you so much why aren't you a polytheist(believing many "gods" )...why aren't you afraid of greek hell tartarus or afraid of allahs own hell? Is yours more believe-able or scarier? but i ask myself and every wise person should also ask himself. "what if it turned out to be true, what if a God afterward do exist? What if actualy the end of the world really comes?".Whats funny here is that you picked your "god" as the one in question...why not what if "gods and goddesses" are true? why if your "god" is true? And if in some way what would be referred to in context as "a god" or a phenomena that may have had a conscious act in the creation of the universe if it indeed exists... that possibility tells you nothing about "hells" or "judgement" or anything about your existence....those notions and ideas arrive when you believe "sacred texts" on faith... For all you know "god" could be the universe and we may just be part of its dendrons and nerves...out of countless others. For all you know "god" could be the matrix if indeed we are living in one... For all you know "god" could be the programmer, programmers, scientists, scientist, conscious entity or entities running or playing a universe-like simulation for reasons known to them/him/her/it alone. For all you know you yourself may be "god" who is just as eternally living a life you dreamt up for yourself...when you die,you wake up and think up another dream. For all you know "god" or what would be termed as one is actually a finite being that died and its carcass is the universe. All these notions of what might be called a "god or gods" have little or no evidence to them, some are even more plausible than your "god" claims ![]() Why not believe, obey and serve this God, perhaps if it happens to be true, you wouldn't be a fool at last, on the contrary, if this happens not to exist, then you revert to your old belief.I'm still asking why you don't obey many "gods" and religions following your logic... and how can you evaluate any other claim when you have chosen one as true already? That is the reason you can't evaluate anything outside your belief....because you've taken yours as true from the start... Either way you have absolutely nothing to loose (so to say) .hmmm lets see...if it is false what wrong have i caused?; 1. I helped spread a lie. 2. I used 10% of my earnings to promote a lie. 3. I lied to children...telling them they were born imperfect beings. 4. I wasted several useful hours of my life being in a church. 5. The time I could have spent cherishing life,I used it to promote a secluded afterlife. 6. The memories I should have cherished for my deceased relatives I spent trying to meet them in the great beyond. 7. The time I could have spent helping matters I offered a prayer instead, thinking an entity would take control. 8. Instead of embracing being human I spat and was remorseful of it. 9. Instead of embracing fellow humans I saw them as wicked beings in need of eternal torture. 10. Instead of helping to donate to scientific research that would help in understanding,I offered it to churches. etc This atheism practiced here is almost making me loathe Nairaland, i might sign out permanently if i'm pushed to the wall. ..i didn't follow this post, i just saw it among my followed topics..Why not walk a mile in my shoes? Everywhere I go in Nigeria there are theists... they knock on my doors and try to push their dogma to me, they disturb the public with sirens of their beliefs, they push their beliefs in schools and other sectors of the soceity..... they will push pamphlets to you and get offensive if you reject or discard it.. The society sees me as a stupid or unwise person(you included think this)...... How do you think I feel if the mere mention of disbelief gets me a sack letter, ridicule and open hostilities? If you quit nairaland, you still have your theistic based society, what do I have to go to? So you can't bear the 1% of outlets that atheists are in when you as a theist and with other theists have 99%? ![]() Pls let's try and be wise thinkers, says one who swallows claims of a man walking on water and a talking donkey as 100% true without confirmation ![]() i'm nt saying any should abandon his belief.okay..I don't have a belief. For instance i'm a christian, and according to some of you here, if at the long run it turns out that God doesn't exist i have nothing to loose, but if i neglect God now on the basis of atheism, then what if at the long run it now turns out that God realy do exist and that hell do exist,so you picked the possibility of the christian "god" and now rode on from there? from what i've said so far, alot of "ifs" are postulated... whether they are true is the point... Again if the claims of eternal torture scares you why not believe all the claims, even your christian "god" has over 41,000 sub-denominations...is the one you picked more possible than the others? WHAT BECOMES OF ME THEN??what you believe becomes of you is what you project in your life, here you are calling people you know nothing about fo0ls because of a belief in a reward and punishment scheme used to police ancient communities.. There's no wisdom there, and i call it FOOLISHNESS.Rivalled by "wisdom" to accept claims on faith and not from such claims being true or validated ![]() |
striktlymi:what exactly makes skepticism become irrational? is there a limit to questions that should be asked and who gets to decide what must not be questioned?...what questioned position makes one as irrational as blind faith? |
malvisguy212:hmmmm,this speaks volumes of you.... at the middle of the night,i saw a woman standing in the middle of my room,i smile and say"if you stand tired, you will leave"so a lady couldn't have sneaked in or you couldn't have been hallucinating or witnessing mirages and illusions? i know you wont believe me,but am telling you the truth, how do athiest explain this?how can you tell you are saying the truth?... you didn't make any effort on your own to explain it but likely labelled it a "supernatural encounter"... And at the end of the day if you looked for explanations and found none...the honest thing to say is "i don't know" What lead to temptation?I don't exactly know what you mean by tempation in general but things we term bad are termed so because we perceive them as a risk to our well-being... if you desire to do that which is a risk to you it could either be for thrill, desperation or just being inquisitive about what it could feel or be like... Can temptation lead to the existence of God? If God do not exist, dos that mean everything is permissable?please take this notion cognitively; laws, norms, and mores do not exist because a "god" does....they exist because of people....and people need to have a way with interacting with others that gives everyone no compromise of his/her own well-being.... I do not need magical transcendent beings to tell me chopping of somebody's head is bad....because I do not wish it projected on myself either and it has no value to the persons well-being.... i hate to do somthing, but i find myself doing it, how do you explain this? What type of force is this?force? lol,no.. if you are addressing what you term "temptation" again....its already answered,if you are however talking about an addiction of some sort, then it is because you've formed a reward system for yourself based on the gain you obtain... Just like a goat would still go to a place no matter the harm done to it(mind you, although you are not a goat....you are still an animal) Soooo many question to ask, do you realy think you are living alone?how do you ev explain en dream?yes I am living alone, and dreams aren't anything special.....dogs too have dreams.. |
striktlymi:are there limits to how skeptical one can be towards a belief? |
when you willingly believe anything on faith....you are denying it being true on its own merits..... if faith is the way you know a jewish guy walked on water, then you are the definition of gullible... |
davien:"Where no "god" treads" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocgZaDmvYPw |
Proffdada:At the end of the day....its a pic of unborn twins debating about the existence of "mom" is all you could do..... no wonder talking donkeys seem perfectly natural to you ![]() |
Trippledots:will you torture it forever for doing what it was designed to do? |
Trippledots:If the designed purpose is to have and be worshipped why free-will? and why punishment for exercising that free-will by violation of its desires? If I were to buy a car that had a feature to drive itself anywhere and I wake up one day not to find it parked where I left it..can I sue or blame anyone for such an obvious design flaw? why would I even endorse or support such a feature if my own purpose is specific? ![]() |
Proffdada:no....you claimed you have a knowledge of a "god" and not a belief....I told you that.... that which is believed on faith without evidence and cannot be shown or demonstrated to be true but believed only by faith is a belief....you terming things designed or complex doesn't change it unless you can demonstrate it to be true.... the claim of the being hasn't been proven and you are jumping to things that you think are evident or caused by the "god" claim....can an unjustified claim justify another unjustified claim? Would leprechauns begin to exist if I label it supernatural? (analogy) |
Proffdada:how does it have nothing to do with beliefs when faith is the methodology used? And your "grand design" and "complexity of consciousness" idea is but mere straws you use to cling on to your already accepted a priori belief....you have yet to demonstrate there being such an entity the "god" claims allege about in the first place and yet you've already used perceived phenomena you and theists alike observe in nature and term it designed.... You can call things designed and complex all day long....but until you can provide a reason that points to it being ex nihilo created you have no case... ...Also you claim it isn't needed for things to be instilled into you but yet you were infact indoctrinated....and as such also trying to instill belief into others dogmatically....that is what separates teachers from clergymen.. ![]() imagine if there's no God? all the laws of physics or mathematical fundamentals will always be subjected to randomized results. It was never established that any "god" exists in the first place otherwise I wouldn't be an atheist and everyone would all agree on what the concept of it is...instead of different "gods" and different sub-denominations for the same ones... and the laws of physics are expressions we use to describe phenomena... mathematics lies in abstract extrapolations and derivations of defined terms....observed or not...practical or theoretical... ![]() |
Proffdada:I honestly do not know what you mean by the above paradox statement.... what I will say however is how fiendish your belief is.....if I already accept a claim as true.....won't I already follow suit to proclaim it true(belief).... why is this claim not taken on its own merits but rather needs to be instilled into ones mind without question? ![]() If you ever attended a school....were lessons instilled on your mind without question and did you attempt to verify the lessons taught with practical applications?.....If so,why does your "god" claim skip the basics of learning...? ![]() |
Proffdada:interesting....you know your "god" exists? can you prove it? and point of correction proffdada....atheists do not need to justify disbeliefs....because the said belief from the start of theists is unjustified...do you justify that which is unjustified from the start? ....... ![]() Let me ask you a question.....when you know something is true and need to educate others on it....do you teach or dogmatically burn that knowledge into the person you are addressing?..if you know your "god" claim is true...why were you indoctrinated to believe? ![]() |
Proffdada:or rather you place "god" in the gaps of human knowledge just like a primitive will say back in 3000 B.C.E that thunder being a limit of human knowledge then....housed "gods" ![]() and please do enlighten us of how you know there are 10 dimensions...and you claim you have concrete evidence of this all...yet you speak of "experiences".... |
Proffdada:and yet you are the one who believes in talking donkeys ![]() |
MissTeaseMe:acknowledged |
MissTeaseMe:True....but for the ones inquisitive enough to doubt their dogmatic beliefs...this would increase their critical thinking... |
thehomer:This explains much..... |
