Learnt html and css through both reading books, watching videos and reading documentation from mdn w3schools and geek4geeks. Op you're just a stupid F0o0l. |
Skodrran:Leave am, him wan prove say him sabi programming pass web devs and they aren't real programmers. Personally I don't care, once I've learnt it complete it's the money that'll keep me going, not anyone's opinion. |
Yeah, figured that out too. |
It'll have to be python, less boilerplate code. |
todman:Join free online bootcamps and medium pages for programming. It's articles and videos I watched that reinforced me to learn the basics and have a strong understanding of them. DevOps in simplicity is continuous integration and continuous deployment of software/web apps so you mostly take advantage of cloud services and database version control. When it starts getting mentally daunting step away from the computer and live your life. Read paid medium articles for free using 12ft(dot) io Watch YouTube videos Socialize etc.. My two months learning the basics paid off when I could instantly know how to implement a complex effect I saw, everything just clicked. Moving to JavaScript. |
How the hell did this thread die down? Mentally stimulating posts everywhere, even the arguments. Still learning web dev. I'll soon learn JavaScript as I've been learning css for 2 months(not that it's hard but I want to learn it enough to know what's wrong natively with little googling). Already there as now I natively know why a css property wasn't applied as declared(some properties don't affect parent elements, specificity basically). One good gem I'll drop and have heard but didn't take to practice is to always read documentation. MDN has shown me what I wanted to know without having to open stack overflow. Y'all are the best. |
Nigerians have a gatekeeping mentality for some weird ego trips. C++ is just a low level language, you can even argue it makes you a well rounded programmer as it forces strict typing but then again it's just a tool like any other. People have turned html and css into turing complete languages to control robots. Something they weren't meant for. Choose a tech stack and master, stop fighting battles that aren't there. |
GREATIGBOMAN:Lol. Never claimed to be woke. Just saying my observations. Also getting into tech and learning. I'll take my time and hopefully build a unique portfolio. Though an advice I'll give you is to watch your social media comments when going into tech, they can scrape your info and anything not inclusive of LGBTQ+ will be used against you in tech. |
This isn't to slander anyone as I believe we have some of the best programmers/coders out there but I've noticed a few things on web development nigerian tiktoks like: 1. The copy-paste coders ; I'll see a cool css trick on YouTube and go on TikTok to see the same code, line by line with no variation and the person will say it's theirs and they're looking for a job. Truthfully nobody knows everything and programming is a communal effort but it won't be hard to give a shout-out to where you saw that code and add a spin on it or try to reverse it into something unique. Examples of this code are ; CSS Frost Glass effect for login menu Todo app with neutronic effect Blinking typing animation Etc. It's cool Nigerians are interested in responsive designs but I don't want a situation where huge number of Nigerians apply to foreign jobs and fail to deliver on their said CSS skills. People who say CSS is easy haven't used it to replicate what frameworks do from scratch, na there you go know say you gats think well on what selector or pseudo-class to implement. 2. The flashy tech bro ; Again, no hate or anything but I see flashy LEDs blinking in a dark room and some guy saying what I've heard or writing the same app I've seen over and over, "here's a reddit clone", "here's a jumia clone", "here's a nice theme". Some you can tell know what they're talking about but personally I suspect some just want to sell courses. Marketing yourself is great but atleast have the skills to back it up. 3. The advice gurus who don't code ; Tech is a large field with many niches people can squeeze into if they're dedicated and have a skill valuable enough to get into a company. This category extends even outside of Nigeria as you'll see "a day in the life of a developer" where the person is doing everything else but opening a laptop to code, these ones are pure marketers. 4. The gurus who actually do code ; These ones will most likely not wear flashy clothes, will tell you as it is that it's not all rainbows and sunshine and actually give real life challenges they face when coding, like burnout and the psychological effects of living life behind a screen for the majority of the day, they tell you the pros and cons of technologies and don't hop on "this tech is the absolute best" ideas. They are eager to help people most of the time or direct you to resources you need to know. 5. The I know 5 languages and coding is easy ; Do people know 5 languages? Absolutely, for frontend you'd need to know almost up to 5(HTML,CSS, JAVASCRIPT,REACT/ANGULAR,TYPESCRIPT, etc) but it's the empty vessels that make the loudest noise. There are geniuses who brag but they more than likely brag to fellow coders at work, not online. Everyone isn't purely these stereotypes but I've noticed people falling into this category in naija tech space. Lol, this was an interesting write-up, do you agree with these points or noticed anything also in Nigerian tech? |
It looks amazing, though I'd prefer a preview of the category section on the bottom right of the screen. |
Lucrativress:Ol0$ho spotted! |
Women 25-30 are damaged goods, any man who've lived with women of different statures know how they behave growing up. They will make the serious guy wait but be fvking the bad boy whenever he wants, when they ask the bad boy for relationship he refuses as he knows she's not loyal. Ask them why nobody wanted to marry them earlier and you'll start hearing stories about how one guy lied to them. From recent experience there's one I met who goes to church regularly, told me she wanted marriage at 27, I did my investigation and found out she has a nigga who comes to screw her silly at her place when people are sleeping in her compound. They're great pretenders. |
I wish you a happy married life in advance. May you enjoy your home. Always remember to lead your family but also have an open ear to your wife. |
Let's be honest, women always have options. These ones are looking for prince charming or have slipped up in their past and praying for comeback. |
Web developers in the house, how do you create contracts for clients to pay you hourly and do you use your Dom or Payoneer? |
There'll be a lot of money to maintain legacy react code if these conversations are to be believed. |
LikeAking:Bro, nobody sent you to learn coding. A lot of figma designers can code by the way and your argument is the same for people who say WordPress developers aren't real developers because it's just drag and drop. It's deeper than that. |
This is dum-b, figma isn't a gimmick bro. I don't use it but as a Frontend Engineer you'll need designs that standard css animations may be overcomplicated to do when you can just create an SVG animation instead. Though not all figma designs can translate to real development. The flashier it is the more nobody wants the headache to code it into the frontend. Here's an example, you create a figma for a SPA where there's a car mockup that opens the engine, door, etc the lower you scroll across the screen. Can you code that for mobile? Nope. Desktop, probably and even then is it worth the slow load times the website would have or would such a system be easy to debug? |
I have a passion for tech though but it's situation that made me get back into web dev, currently still learning. When I was a kid in 2013 it was like magic how I knew html, now I wish I stuck to that passion for the money. Passion is nice but life can get in the way of passion, the love of money drives passion when it becomes a job in my opinion as no matter how passionate you're about coding, passion won't feed you if you don't have money to continue. |
LikeAking:Bro it's just constructive criticism. Devs can be harsh but this is more on the tame side. Have you seen where someone tells you to quit because you can't center a div? Spoke too soon, just saw he graded the nigga. WTF?! @GREATIGBOMAN bring your code for code review, sebi you fit grade people? Nonsense. |
This is very unlikely. I'll wait for further investigation. |
The skills you're asking for should pay #700k for a Nigerian atleast or for remote work abroad $2000 per month(and that's the low estimate) |
Bro, mine was a so-called hardened christian who would call me 24/7 with sweet soft voice and never left me alone, she was always jealous of my female friends and drove them away. She'll often look me in the eye and tell me she and I are going to get married. Only for her friend to gist me that she dey receive kondo whenever I'm not around(mind you this girl dey cum back to back normally with me, even her friend says she talks about how she enjoys the way I screw her). Confronted her and that same person told me she doesn't care. SINCE THEN I'VE BECOME A VERY COLD MAN, I DON'T BELIEVE WORDS OR EVEN ACTION AS THAT WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME OF DATING A GIRL AND NA FAKE LOVE. She later came to apologize and asked I forget about it, Lai Lai, love no dey my eye again, women fake that shit. |
They built a bot to spam the same topics. |
niel63:Can I get your telegram handle to consult you on things I'm finding hard to do with web dev? Still on css as I'm taking my time. |
Jamesfrank2133:Success is the best revenge. |
A better idea is a Nigerian tech blog, where the experienced ones can guide how the market receives Nigerians, if we play it right the admin/mods could end up with recruiter roles and be paid $10k per competent programmer they refer to big companies. |
Search for "surviving infidelity" on Reddit and see stories of men who did everything women say they want but they ended up treating them like s$h!t. Don't ever help any woman you're not related to, they'll take you for a F0o0l. That's how their gender reasons, kindness is poison to them, na why man wey dey flog woman with belt and chain dey make her wet but man wey dey give woman flowers and chocolate dey make her bored and cause argument at every corner. |
This rule remains true for anything marriage. Marry who's invested in you, not your lifestyle or her own situation. There are many sensible 18-24 year olds, don't let anyone discourage you into marrying a bitter 25/30+ year old. |
Scammers about to come in with emotional "I've not eaten since morning" story. |
Sleekcode:Lol, it's a pity the way you're approaching programming. This is a collaborative space, not one driven by ego or competition. You'd have no git repository to upload to if everyone approached things like you. Be wise and learn to humble yourself. The people who know 9 programming languages and build apps using 5 stacks don't even think of themselves as special. |
