looking at some answers here, some think the only things possible need your belief for them to be possible...
1. Time travel is possible....we're in fact traveling through time everyday...backwards time-travel is also theoretically possible but may not be practical...
2. Conscious machines....nobody has enough information to conclude if it's possible or not, without an understanding consciousness as performed by a biological brain....
3. An after-life is a very baseless concept...one that tunes the fancy of our human desires...it isunprovable and can't be disproved either...making it equal to make-belief and fairy tales...
4. Aliens creating humans isn't impossible, but it begs the question of where and how the aliens themselves came to be....as always, evidence is needed to make any conclusion promoting this...
5.Reality being a simulation is a mind-binding thought...but again, without evidence we are constrained to live lives by the rules of the reality we experience(whether it's truly fake or real).. |

An addition to your dribble of a post belabela....particularly to your naming of einstein and well known religious scientists.... It's another pathetic fallacy(of fame)....mind you, newton was also an alchemist who made unfruitful attempts to make a philosophers stone' and einstein never made such a comment as "science without religion is lame...",I thrashed that urban myth a long time ago in this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1932478/reason-why-atheists-dont-cantdavien: einstein made no such statement... you claim atheists spew claims they know nothing about and have done the very same thing http://www.theguardian.com/science/2008/may/12/peopleinscience.religion
" "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." So said Albert Einstein , and his famous aphorism has been the source of endless debate between believers and non- believers wanting to claim the greatest scientist of the 20th century as their own. A little known letter written by him, however, may help to settle the argument - or at least provoke further controversy about his views. Due to be auctioned this week in London after being in a private collection for more than 50 years, the document leaves no doubt that the theoretical physicist was no supporter of religious beliefs, which he regarded as "childish superstitions". Einstein penned the letter on January 3 1954 to the philosopher Eric Gutkind who had sent him a copy of his book Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt. The letter went on public sale a year later and has remained in private hands ever since. In the letter, he states: "The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this." Einstein, who was Jewish and who declined an offer to be the state of Israel's second president, also rejected the idea that the Jews are God's favoured people." The poster was also revealed as a liar and still kept up lying after being exposed....much like what I'm sure would happen with you |

belabela: I have followed a few of your posts on this topic and I wil say your thinking is interesting, It appears you believe in science as a religion which directly corresponds to you not being a scientist.
I am a scientist and trained with one of the best in the world - Interestingly my mentor is an atheist and I am a christian. My mentor in science is in the top five in our field of science and engineering in the world and I worked with him for 6 years - sysnthesing stuffs, attending conferences and debating science ideas. Why am I telling you this? To give you an insight into my exposure of science. And just to add I have a personal interest in theology and have been touched by the bests in that field too.
Science is not a religon. However there is a growing number of non-scientists like you who are making a religion out of science. There is nothing like, to quote you " the scientific answer". If scientists have that approach research would have stopped long tme ago. This approach is promoted by the media not the science community.
Most pioneers of modern science including charles darwin, isaac newton, albert einstein etc were religious men, they weren't atheist. They believed in God. You may say they have a probelm with the way the church at the time presented God to them - but they did not claim there is no God.
This is what Einstein said “To sense that behind everything that can be experienced there is something that our minds cannot grasp, whose beauty and sublimity reaches us only indirectly: this is religiousness. In this sense...I am a devoutly religious man.”
In response to a young girl who had asked him whether he believed in God, he wrote: “everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe—a Spirit vastly superior to that of man.”
And on the relationship between religion and science, Einstein declared: “the situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”
It will appear that it takes a bigger faith to belive there is no God than to believe there is a God. Macro evolution is not testable over time - i.e. billions of years and there is no evidence that in the last 7000 years any species had completed its macro evolution. Seems there is a gap there. Micro evolution is mere adaption - which is a charateristic of a living thing. If you have no spoons you will use your hand to eat. If you have no hand you may start using your leg or eat like a dog. If your tongue is tied you will make sounds to communcate with your environment. That's not evolution but adaptaion. However some in the scence community argue its part of the evolutionary process.
To conclude there is no singular view on scientific theory. Scientifc laws however are agreed such as the law of gravity but evolution isn't a law but a theory and that means not all scienctists agree with it. Intelligent design theory is out there, like evolution not all scientsts agree with it. So you cannot say the scientific explanation. There are many different scientifc explanations to a problem and though different they are all scientific First of all,I don't care to know who you claim to be on a faceless forum(you could say you were the king of England for all I care)... Secondly your pathetic straw man is as baseless as they come...(below is your quote) . "I have followed a few of your posts on this topic and I wil say your thinking is interesting, It appears you believe in science as a religion which directly corresponds to you not being a scientist. " Now what post have I made declaring that science is a religion?.... It's straw men fallacies like that that made me put up a pun on my profile...(you can look it up...) Lastly I have nothing to debate with you, knowing you can't tell the difference between a scientific theory and a regular theory(guess)...nor do you know what a scientific consensus is,as is the case with evolution.....a scientific consensus and the veracity of the theory is all there is to show its utility, not a dafted ear outlier crying wolf over... And as a "scientist", you'd be aware or I believe you should know that outliers or detractors of a theory exists in all fields....from geocentricists,to anti-vaccinators and then your lot the creationists....so either you bring up some factual papers backing up your case or stay mute...it's that simple. And again...perhaps you failed to understand in your studies as a "scientist" that a scientific answer is one that is testable or verifiable...like the number of people required to avoid inbreeding is 160+... |

Rossy99: Giving birth to a child is one of the most beautiful and sacred things a woman can do. In a way she cooperates directly with the creative act by which a new human being sees the light of day. There is no question of her becoming unclean by this, of her needing to be cleansed and to be barred from taking full part in Church services. On the contrary, a young mother deserves all the joy of joining in Christ's eucharist of thanksgiving. Let us see where the misgivings come from. Why did people think a young mother needed to be purified after giving birth to a child? 1.Pagan origins According to Greek and Roman ideas, a man had more 'spirit' than a woman. A woman was more material, like the earth, which they saw confirmed at childbirth. For then the mother discharges the tissue of the placenta amd blood. So are you implying that this view has it's roots in pagan origins... |

Everything isn't as black and white as the op believes,in a relationship, sex doesn't necessarily end it...and it isn't just men that request for sex first in a relationship(i sure didn't)...neither does it make a man something less for requesting for it because he can only proceed if you consent to it.
Most times sex could be a factor to consider before marrying someone before it then becomes a factor after marriage that'll lead to insecurities and promiscuity. |

CaptainJune: Of course, facts. The facts of a matter. The fact that God created the universe and the planets with everything in them, the fact that the Word of God is true and accurate, the fact that science cannot offer conclusive explanation for events beyond its scope of investigation, the fact that God knows the end from the beginning, the fact that the evidence of the existence of God cannot be scientifically determined, but has been known by eye-witnesses and various physical manifestations that defy logical explanation...they are facts...even science is mystified and cannot deny these occurrences. The best explanation that science can offer, for lack of physical determination, is that these occurrences are products of the imagination. Lol.
When facts are scientifically unidentifiable, untestable, not subject to any mathematical, chemical, or biological experimentation, then they become a mystery. They become false for the failure of science to provide the certificate of evidence to enable them to be accepted as reality by mankind. No need to be running around in circles and chasing your tails....the very definition of facts define them as verifiable and not mysteries.

Then cut out extraneous material from your argument. They only serve to make your thoughts appear jumbled and rambling. That is the outcome of her drawing a random bible verse as though it were objective evidence of her point. Fair enough. In other words, science would rather believe in the existence of an evil God responsible for all the disasters on earth than in a compassionate and creative God who designed the universe. No bias there, my friend. I understand that science and her followers are more confused by the day. Thoniameek: You didn't get my point.... I wasn't trying to tell you how old earth is, but that as old as it is - it has fared well. And that nature as it is will always fight anomalies, that's how God made it...... Was that the sum total of my post? There's always consequences for something done wrong, and my dear, you sound like you don't like consequences Now now, no need to start throwing accusations to cover yourself....according to your belief...no scenario can exist without being breathed by your god because it's the source of every possible outcome, good and bad ones too...so stop making a fallacy of sorrow and address my point. God put everything in place - in case; if you kill; you suffer, if you do something wrong to nature; it fight backs by creating all of those diseases...... I thought the earth is a free gift to man by god? In any case what did a human do or can do that to nature that would warrant god to tweak the genes of a virus to make a human being start vomiting blood like in the case of ebola? Even unbelievers have laws and consequences, not to talk about the creator of the universe. Those "unbelievers" have laws to govern themselves, does the christian god have a law to govern it's actions? Besides, the bible says towards the end they'll be more diseases and illnesses, why? Men would do more evil, and more evil means more consequences. And that is no longer God's doing but sowing-and-reaping More evil = More diseases, this scenario didn't poof out of nowhere....it'll still be god's doing because god is the alleged orchestrator of all things... So another question would be, how can anyone know or prove this,if we have a sufficient scientific explanation that does and provides cures?.. |

Thoniameek: When God made everything He saw that it was good. And there wasn't any disease or sickness then..... Disease came when we started to do things we're not suppose to do with/to our body and environment, diseases and sickness came with man disobedience So disease causing viruses and bacteria create themselves? And I believe Isaiah 45:7 in the bible makes it clear that your god creates evil... I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. And if you read Leviticus when good gave the laws to make different from others; most of those laws were more hygienic than spiritual.... Like not handling of dead animals and so on.... True, it also has verses that instruct you to stone blashemers to death(24:14) Earth most survive! That's how it was created. And that's how it has been abl to keep itself for the past 50 billion years.... It always looks for a way to contain everything. If you go against it, it breaks up something to contain it. The earth isn't 50 billion years but I'm happy you recognized that it's not thousands of years as alleged by some fanatical christian groups.... God made it so..... Then that would mean god knew it would break in the first place wouldn't it? It couldn't be an unintended consequence as god is the orchestrator of the consequences of sin(i.e death by old age,virus,bacteria,etc)...Afterall, nothing new can ever happen for a being that already knows how everything will, can, does and have happened a.k.a omniscient. |

Where do you think it got its genes? From it's environment? Oh! It grew and conform with it's inhabitants to survive? I don't know - tell me Davien Okay so according to you, your god "enabled" Ebola to possess the genes with which it killed hundreds of innocent people for some unknown reason.....what a sadistic belief! And science isn't synonymous with atheism, but the scientific answer is because a virus changes over time or evolves, and with each change,a type emerges with a mix of genes that can attack a specific type of cell of closely related species.. that's why HIV/AIDS originated from SIV from chimps.. So now, given these two answers and the fact that the scientific one is as clear as day(HIV is well documented to have emerged from SIV), why should anyone believe a god is remotely responsible in any biological process or this one? |
