texanomaly: Planes don't mimic birds. They use the same aerodynamic rules. They are dissimilar in almost every other way except that they both have wings. This is not a good example. Planes don't fly themselves. Even on autopilot they are programmed to do so. Who is grasping at straws now? Please refer to the picture below with a definition of mimick...the object or thing mimicked does not necessarily have to be an exact replica...that has been your failure in logic from the onset, the idea that the thing mimicked should be 100℅ like the original else a fail.. You seem to be under the misconception that I don't believe AI is a viable possibility. On the contrary there have been significant advances toward that end. I don't however believe Man will ever come up with an option near what actual humans are. And why is that? Oh and if all I've pointed out is so obvious, why do you feel the need to continue debating me. I reckon the same reason you had to reply me in the first place..

All you've been doing is pointing the obvious...what else would something artificial do but mimick the natural?.... And as is common...artificial concepts can be improved upon to surpass the natural in one or more ways... |

texanomaly: I'll give you the bolded. btw HIV/AIDS is manageable with treatment now. There is no cure. Actually no virus is ever "cured" but managed/weakened, 8% of your DNA is viral DNA dating back to every viral infection any of your ancestors ever had... |

texanomaly: None of this compares to human intelligence or consciousness. My point is...I'm don't believe Man will ever be able to completely engineer human emotions from A.I. If we are talking machines that can learn, we are already there. Well your beliefs can't tell the truth of things no matter how strongly. .the evidence speaks for itself and so far A.I can intelligently mimick a human to certain extents which can be improved upon in the near future. |

texanomaly: The bolded makes it still just a program what else would it be called for an artificial construct?... Incidentally it is not only the program but the things it can do...else you're just a sac of meat housing chemicals and electrical impulses....see what I mean This statement brings us back to what Uyi said. It all depends on how you define consciousness. True and then again nobody has a discrete definition and some merit one over another because it draws to their emotional side of human beings... Still programmed. Again this is a non-sequitor.. Which makes me think about the myriad of movies where "self aware" machines make choices based on logic alone, and do not take any extenuating circumstances into consideration. That's why it's called sci-fi. There are conferences being held for A.I ethics. I read somewhere that artificial intelligence should not be confused with consciousness in the sense of qualia. I agree with this. Reading and agreeing to an article or two doesn't tell us anything about human ingenuity and there are algorithms that learn from experience... |

Scholar8200: At a time when technology was very primitive (unlike today), the need for human capital was very high; productive activities were largely labour-intensive; most times, slaves were required only for economic activities (agriculture, building etc). In fact, those who were poor gave themselves out as slaves to get a benefit eg Jacob, Egyptians to Pharaoh Genesis 47:25,26 etc Hence thew law given was to guide how they were to relate with them given the reality that was obtainable then. An abrupt halt to the practise will mean that, in some cases, the slaves will be worst hit. Selling slaves and buying slaves isn't equal to indebted servitude...the Bible explicably gives instructions on how to buy, sell and treat slaves. |

How am I insincere by saying I make amends?.. |
Christianity Etc › Re: What Will It Mean For Religion When Humans Create Conscious Robots? by davien(m): 7:53pm On Aug 03, 2015 |
I personally believe that A.I can attain human-like behaviours and emotions...it is ever-approaching that level today.. Once you have an A.I of sufficient complexity that is well-programmed with algorithms for self-awareness in regards to it's environment,a defined concept of success/failure and good/bad,with a fluid application to acquire/engage and test out unknown real-world situations towards living and non-living things...
The Turing test have over the years been passed by many A.I and there's even an A.I in china that retains and asks real-world questions after attaining bits of information...although the question of whether it truly knows what it's saying rather than following a programme is a tough one.. But then again humans also are predertimined by "programmes" like neurones, hormones all in a brain that dishes out what we do...so who is conscious? |

Scholar8200: The ransom is for the life of the owner of the killer Ox who knew his Ox dangerous tendencies but left it to roam freely Exodus 21:29,30 29 But if the ox had the habit of goring, and its owner was warned, and he did not take the necessary precautions, and then it killed a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned and the man must be put to death. 30 If a ransom is set for him, then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him. I repeat, what justifies killing the ox when a fine has been paid... But how do you 'correct' that habit for the Ox? secluding the ox and/or sedating are options but let's leave this bit out for important parts of your argument. So, was this referring to a slave? Exodus 21:28 You still sound as though the Ox will gore only slaves!!!
what else would I be talking about when the verse is about slaves
So say your justifications for putting slaves in that ordeal in the first place...
Your premise for that conclusion is faulty; where is the IF that justify your claim? Seems you don't understand that statement! This is serious,I doubt anyone would have trouble reading and comprehending his own statements like you do...(below) author=Scholar8200 post=36570770] Exodus 21:29,30
29 But if the ox had the habit of goring, and its owner was warned, and he did not take the necessary precautions, and then it killed a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned and the man must be put to death.
'If' shows it is not a command So you've created a dillema, because you made a statement that "if" doesn't imply commands....so what's that saying about the ox being killed and a payment being made...a request? Logic fail! Oh good, you finally got another soon to be overworked cliche! You've been touting cliche all day,do you fancy the word or fail to understand it's meaning? |

malvisguy212: someone wrongs me and says "I'm sorry, please forgive me", to me these are two different requests. Yes of course I can accept someone's apology, but who am I to forgive them? The responsibility to deal with the consequences of ones actions both in the physical world as well as in the psychological world, is not mine to take away from someone. I cannot take away what you did to me. It is not my place to say to you, it's ok, I forgive what you did, now you can go on with your life. How is it not yours to take when the action is solely towards you....again you keep trying to attribute actions and responsibilities away from the concerned individuals... |

Scholar8200: Exodus 21:29,30 29 But if the ox had the habit of goring, and its owner was warned, and he did not take the necessary precautions, and then it killed a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned and the man must be put to death. The Ox had a habit and its owner had been notified by those who witnessed/noticed it. Again, what justifies the death of the bull if a dew has been paid for the crime? So the Ox got programmed to read labels before attacking!? Or is it that you did not see that it was mentioned that the Ox could wound one who was not a slave?! If this is your answer to putting slaves in those situations in the first place, then it's blissfully illegible... 'If' shows it is not a command to sell daughters as slaves. Good boy, then by your logic once again the verse about the ox being killed and the owner paying isn't a command also but a request since "if" is involved... But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death. An overworked cliche by NL atheists! You keep chasing your own tail and falling on your own logic buddy... If I had a dollar for every time that happened I'd be a billionaire.. |
