Reports just reaching us now has it that the People Democratic Party(PDP) Governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore for the August 9 Osun Poll has donated a new 14 Seater Bus to the OAU Students' Union.

Speaking to the Students' Union PRO, Comrade Oludare Bamidele on phone, he confirmed the development.

Re-opened at the Politics section

The latest University Ranking of the popular 4iuc.org parades Obafemi Awolowo University as the third best in Nigeria. The ranking means the initially rated best University in the nation dropped two places down. Occupying the leading position now is the University of Ilorin while University of Lagos occupies the second spot. OAU occupies the 26th position in Africa and the 2157th position in the World Ranking.

The backdrop in the performance of Obafemi Awolowo University in this ranking may not be unconnected to the recent closure of the University by the school authority following demonstrations by the students over increment in school fees which manyhas labelled 'Inconsiderable' and 'Outrageous'.

Ebola Outbreak: Causes, Transmission, Symptoms And Prevention

Ebola Virus Disease(EVD) formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever is a severe,often fatal illness in humans. The first outbreak of EVD was in 1976 - a twin outbreak in Nzara,Sudan and Yambuku,Democratic Republic of Congo. The largest outbreak as of 2014 is the ongoing ''2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak'' which is affecting Guinea,Sierra Leone,Liberia and Nigeria.


CAUSES

EVD is caused by 4 of 5 viruses classified in the genus Ebolavirus,family Filoviridae,order Mononegavirales ; Bundigyo virus,Ebola/Zaire virus,Sudan virus and Tai forest virus. The fifth,Reston virus,commonly found in Philippine and China can infect humans,but no illness has been reported till date.

TRANSMISSION

EVD is believed to occur after an Ebola virus is transmitted to a human index. It's transmitted through direct contact with blood,secretions,organs or other bodily fluids of infected people.

SIGNS and SYMPTONS

-Fever
-Intense weakness
-Muscle pain
-Headache
-Sore throat
-Vomitting
-Diarrhoea
-Rash,impaired kidney and liver function.
-Low white blood cell and platelet counts.
In Africa,fruit bats,particularly species of the genera ''Hypsignathus Monstrosus'',''Epomops Franqueti'' and ''Myanycteris Torquata'' are the natural hosts of EBOV. No vaccine for EVD is available,patients are frequently dehydrated and require oral rehydration with solutions containing electrolytes or intravenous fluids.

PREVENTION

-Reduce risk of animal-to-human transmission from contact with infected fruit bats or monkeys and consumption of their raw meat.
-Animals should be handled with gloves and other appropriate protective clothing.
-Animal meat should be thoroughly cooked.
-Avoiding close contact with an Ebola patient.
-Sharing of personal clothings should be avoided.
-Handshaking,hugging and other bodily contacts should be reduced to avoid cataclysmic outbreak.

ASUP just recovered from their months long strike
Federal Uni students have been protesting high fees, oau, unilag, Noun among others.
Research facilities and centers are not yet in place
Our graduates are still deemed "unemployable" by employers.
The quality of education is still abmyssal.

I want to believe now that this thread may have a ill motive. Just look at the bolded?! Building Universities has no direct impacts on people's live? Which planet are you from OP?

How about thousands of people that this Universities have created job for?
How about thousands of students that will no longer have to wait for a next year to jostle for the limited spaces in our old university for admission?
How about the increase in our literacy level in those area where the University is created? (Very applicable to the North)
How about the upliftment of the Standard of Living of those traders and business people that will invade the University communities to trade?

Now to your original question. I keep telling myself, if only GEJ can put up a more viable approach towards ending insurgency in Nigeria and also have a reduced tolerance for Corruption, I tell you, he will be on top of our Presidents' Hall of Fame. However, a Stateman that vowed to unleash terror on his very own nation on the basis that his interest is not popular amidst the people does not deserve the most coveted Seat of Power. I tag him 'Overambitious' & 'Desperate'.

Kwankwaso & Fashola to me would have been the best materials in that list that one could have tipped but they are of same religion and it may not augur well for us as a multi-religion nation. Yes, you may want to say it doesn't matter but it matters. Nigerians can no longer afford to be further divided along religious line.

Atiku is not that bad but he may not be given the chance in APC considering the kind of structure they've got(They confer/impose/anoint their candidates). Much more, He is likely to have similar problem to what Kwankwaso-Fashola ticket has. Here, the running mate for him is likely to be a Yoruba and not an Igbo because APC will be careful to choose their Vice Presidential candidate from where they believe they can pull more votes come 2015. Fayemi could have been the best bet considering his religion but I am afraid the storm that swept him away from the Governorship seat in Ekiti obviously remains a threat to his political ambition.

As for Lamido and Amaechi, I think they may have to wait for a better opportunity to prove their worth.

Well articulated observations but scanty. The President has done more than you highlighted there(even if you say major). I was expecting you to mention the creation of the new Universities & Polytechnics there. I also hold in high esteem his signing into law the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act.

As for Buhari, I was expecting his alleged statement after he lost the 2011 election to make this nation ungovernable for the President in relation to the activities of the dreaded Islamic Sect to have formed the crust of his major setback.


BTW, I expect many to tag me Pro-Jonathan & Anti-Buhari because of this post. No need to worry, I fully understand that you have the right to your views and opinion.

bedfordng: it all depends on whether self hosted or hosted wordpress.yes the beauty in wordpress self hosted is superb but you have to be ready for the maintenance too,trust me its not easy.as for the hosting,you will have to go for unlimited hosting to run your blog successfully,other than that,your site may go offline regularly if you go for limited bandwidth.you really must be ready for wordpress maintenance before using it other wise you may get frustrated when the money is not coming in.don't mean to scare you.if you have no knowledge in webhosting and wordpress,don't go there.you can still learn it by running wp on your computer for the main time.that is just the simple truth.i won't even advice using .wordpress as against .

bedfordng: i will advice you to use blogger if you are new and don't have much knowledge on wordpress and hosting.i prefer using blogger than wordpress free version.its easy and more user friendly with features.don't make the mistake many beginners do make by using wordpress self hosted and end up quiting because money was not coming in and they need pay for hosting and maintain their website.so just make use of blogger for the main time to and develop your blogging skills before moving to wp self hosted.i won't recommend .wordpress free version

Thank you. You are right that I don't know anything about Wordpress. I am familiar with Blogger and i like the ease of use but I don't know if Wordpress is like that. If the price of hosting on Wordpress is not beyond my purse, that should not be problem then. It seems to me blogs on Wordpress looks more attractive than the one on Blogger. I may be wrong though.
