EducationOAU Management Releases A 109-man Indictment List As Union Election Commences by Davo93(op): 1:09pm On Mar 21, 2015
http://www.oaupeeps.com/2015/03/breaking-news-management-releases-109.html

Just like the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Ikudayisi Johnson has said during a press conference on Friday morning that the commission is expecting the traditional list of indicted students for the forth-coming Students’ Union election, the management of Obafemi Awolowo University has late yesterday evening reeled out the names of some 109 students who are allegedly currently been indicted.

As at the time of filing this report, the names of these 109 students are neither yet to be made public nor a concrete detail of their indictment explained as the commission leadership is currently meeting on the matter and promises to relay resolutions later to the press.

The Electoral Commission has earlier said that despite its resolution that it will not accept students who had participated in students’ protest within reasonable jurisdiction in time past as truly indicted, the commission will also not protect any indicted student found wanting of genuine allegations leveled against him or her.

“The Commission has resolved that certain students would not be permitted to aspire to Leadership Positions in the forthcoming elections as it is expected that Leaders in any society should not be people of questionable character or behaviour. This Commission will therefore not permit anybody she considers unfit for Leadership roles in the forthcoming elections. The decision as to who might and who might not contest will be based on the discretion of the Commission after the disciplinary committee list which would be given by the School Management has been consulted”

“Let me make this clear, this commission will not protect someone who has stolen before, this commission will not protect someone who has been involved in examination malpractice before, and this commission will not protect someone who has been jailed before.” Ikudayisi Johnson affirmed.

It will be recalled that an indictment list was also given by the management to the 2014 Habeeb-led Electoral Commission which contained the names of some prominent contestants including ENGELS (Secretary-General), MANDELA (President), ANCHOR (Vice President) and CHOCO MILO (Awo Hall Chairman) who were eventually suspended after the elections.

EducationOAU Students Jostle For Kumuyi's Seat After Crusade by Davo93(op):
http://www.oaupeeps.com/2015/03/oau-students-jostle-for-kumuyis-seat.html

The respected cleric and General Superindent of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi was in Obafemi Awolowo University for the first time in about thirty years in the course of this week for a two-day crusade tagged: Power in the name of Jesus; a programme put together by the Christian Mobilization Committee of the varsity.

Kumuyi while preaching to thousands of people at the new crusade ground, said, “Nigerians should take their destiny in their hands. People should not be discouraged by whatever problems they are facing now, either as individuals or as a nation”.

He noted that there were two different kinds of people in the world, saying while some saw themselves as “grasshoppers”, others equally looked themselves as “conquerors”.

He said, “There is need to be like the biblical Caleb, who never allowed the towering, scary figure of the giants they saw to dissuade him from entering the land of Canaan. Caleb gave a positive account of what he saw and encouraged others to be optimistic. You are what you think you are.”

At the end of the crusade on the first day, just as Pastor Kumuyi stepped down the podium, scores of people at the venue of the crusade ran towards the podium to seat and touch the seat where Kumuyi stood up from. It was not clear what motivated their action but our conversation with one of those that jostled for the seat revealed that they believe their action with faith could give them their desired miracle just as the woman with the issue of blood in the bible did.

The program was brought to a close the second morning after a Bible Study session.

EducationViolence Reports About Accounting Students In OAU Is False -NUASA OAU President by Davo93(op): 8:54am On Feb 25, 2015
http://www.oaupeeps.com/2015/02/accounting-students-parliamentry.html

The widely reported parliamentary sitting of Accounting Students' Representative Council(ASRC) of the Nigeria Universities Accounting Students' Association (NUASA), Obafemi Awolowo Universities which allegedly turned violent has been debunked by leaders of the association and thus not true.

Below is the Press Statement made available to OAU Peeps News Agency by the Association:

At this moment, it is a must for me to come out and let the whole world know that accounting students of Obafemi Awolowo University are people of integrity and well-mannered students. I as the president of NUASA will not do anything that will tarnish the good image many past leaders of the association have shed blood and made a lot of sacrifice to build. The release that there was a fight at the last parliamentary sitting was untrue and our press must always realize that damaging images of people for popularity or for the purpose of making money is not good enough. As the pressmen are doing their job, every ethics guiding the profession of journalism must be obeyed.

It was unfortunate that the little disagreement in the house between the Accounting Students' Representative Council(ASRC) and the gallerias could be escalated by some students who came to the sitting as students but were there as informants and went online to publish another story which later caught the attention of different news outlets and national dailies. A lot of story in the publications were wrong. The General Secretary the person of Oladiti Oladotun was not suspended, there is no office as the Director of Studies in NUASA, nobody was attacked and what transpired between some gallerias and Lasisi Afeez was amicably settled by me and I was shocked when news outlets reported that he was attacked.

The principle that has been guiding the present administration is integrity and we have been doing everything within our capacity to make sure that the association funds are well accounted for and our staff advisers, lecturers, patrons and students can testify to this. More so, let me make it known to the public that the disagreement in the ASRC which was later escalated by individuals has nothing to do with money or financial report of our just concluded summit. A constitutional matter was raised during the sitting by a galleria which the appropriate authority refused to recognized was all that lead to the issue that has been hijacked by the press.

The ASRC approved a budget of over 2.2million for the summit and less than 1.8million was spent for the three days summit. The summit financial report has been submitted to appropriate authority and has been verified and approved by them. The Present NUASA leaders have been nominated for many awards based on our performances so far and we will not do anything to tarnish the good image we have labored so much to build. We appeal to all news outlets to make their findings very well before they publish anything and that money and popularity should not always be the motive for doing anything which in turn may have negative effect on others. I want all nuasites to be calm and that we must handle this issue with all maturity.

Our lives are not determined by our challenges but by how we handle every challenge we face. We will always be committed to courses that will add positive values to every student in the association and our promise to always give you our best still stands. Finally as paraphrased one of my role models the person of Martin Luther King Jr. "I refuse to accept despair as the final response to the challenges of the present moment". And I want to thank all NUASA past executives, lecturers, patrons, corporate bodies, students and other stakeholders for standing by us at this crucial period in the life of our association.

Signed

Adeoba V. Oluwadamilola (NUASA OAU President)

Oladiti Oladotun Victor (NUASA OAU General Secretary)

Bishop Oyedepo's Convenant University has been named Nigerian best University and the 15th best in Africa for this quarter according to the Webometrics university ranking.

The ranking which is the first from the popular university ranking group this year indicates that Obafemi Awolowo University which retained the number one spot for the past four consecutive rankings has slipped to the second spot. There are little changes in the top ten as Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) both climbed one spot each pitching them at the 6th and 8th positions respectively.

Just like the previous ranking, no Nigerian university could make the top ten as the best in Nigeria could only manage the 15th position. Below is the ranking of the Nigerian top ten;

1) Covenant University Ota
2) Obafemi Awolowo University
3) University of Ibadan
4) University of Lagos
5) University of Ilorin
6) University of Agriculture, Abeokuta
7) Ahmadu Bello University
cool Federal University of Technology Akure
9) Landmark University
10) University of Nigeria

EducationJonathan And Buhari Are Disasters –Aborisade by Davo93(op):
http://www.oaupeeps.com/2015/02/jonathan-and-buhari-are-disasters.html

An academician and activist Mr Femi Aborisade veered towards another direction regarding the forthcoming presidential election by tagging the two leading presidential candidates as disasters and calamities if viewed from the supposed perspective of the late legal luminary Barr. Bamidele Aturu if he were alive.

The two presidential candidates are President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and Gen. Mohammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress(APC) he advised students not to entrust with their votes. Mr Aborisade made this assertion at the first Barr. Bamidele Aturu’s Debate organised by Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students’ Union while delivering his speech as the chairman of the occasion, on a theme he tagged: Who is Bamidele Aturu.

According to Aborisade “the disaster of this country is that we have two disasters in the two presidential candidates of the APC and the PDP. If late Aturu were to be alive this would have been his view about the two front runners in the imminent presidential election." He premised his argument on the fact that the incumbent president has not been able to meet the welfare needs of the people has enshrined in the constitution. Gen. Buhari on the other hand he said in any decent and normal setting should not contest after he truncated a democratic setting".

He further stressed that endorsing any of these two candidates to become the president of this nation is not necessary. "They are not worth risking your votes or lifes for". Aborisade however charged Nigerians not to render their votes to any candidate who is not committed to the development of education in the country as Bamidele Aturu would have done if he were alive.

The event featured a debate competition which has 'Nigerian students’ and the challenges of leadership' as the topic. The debate was keenly contested by six ivory towers. They include: Lagos State University(LASU), Ekiti State University(EKSU), Federal College Of Education Osiele, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta(FUNAAB), and the host school Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU). At the end of the intellectual duel, OAU came first with 161 points, UI came second with154 points, LASU came third with 145 points while the FUNNAB and FCABEO came forth and fifth with122 and121 respectively.

http://www.oaupeeps.com/2015/02/oau-students-kick-against-no-election.html

The decision of the Federal Government to ensure academic activities continue in public schools across the nation has been greeted with so many criticisms from students of Obafemi Awolowo University.

The honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau after his meeting with commissioners for education nationwide on Monday decided to dump the idea of giving students election break so as not to further disrupt academic calendar. The minister cited the impromptu Ebola break whose effect is still been felt in the sector. Students of Obafemi Awolowo University have however chided the minister and those who sat with him to take such decision as not weighing arguments properly before making their pronouncements. Even as the Students' Union leaders of Obafemi Awolowo University continue to dance to the gallery on their own opinion about the much talked about election break whenever they are asked, the Union President, Ibikunle Isaac Motunrayo confirmed to the media yesterday that students of OAU do not need to be given any election break.

Ibikunle’s comment of ‘no election break’ for OAU students has further heightened and heated arguments among students as to why the Students’ Union president has to say such thing without consulting the students as such matter relates directly to their welfare. “This is a criminal way of supporting the disenfranchisement of Great Ife students in the coming elections” a student said. Other argument raised by students is that they are involved in the electioneering process. For those that are not part of the electorates, they will be serving as electoral officers in their various states. “I registered for the INEC adhoc job because of the money involved so that I will be able to pay the increased school fees come next semester but with the no election break announcement, I am seriously confused” another OAU student lamented.

Some other students who expressed fear over what may ensue after the February 14 poll believe it is not sane for any authority to keep her students in school when the Federal Government will not be providing additional security to protect lives and properties. “I pray we have a peaceful election but anything can happen and so, we should see beyond now. 2011 is still fresh in memory! What will the school authorities do if any violence breaks out after the election? Disperse students into the violence? You see the decision to keep students in school is not making any sense” a student said.

The Obafemi Awolowo University management as at the time of filing this report is yet to say anything on the election break as the Senate plans to meet before Friday. However, there are fears that the management might adopt the Federal Government’s decision not even when the Students’ Union leaders are supporting the same idea at the expense of popular demands of the students. Some departments have however scheduled their tests to hold on February 28.

General Buhari is pulling out all the stops this time. Campaigning in the south, using his wife & daughters to make himself more sympathetic. I love it! I feel that the democratic process may have changed the general a little bit, and if he gets into power he may not really be so mean.
Lol... You never can tell! Politicians go extra mile to seek what they want with what they have.
PoliticsRemi Sonaiya Campaign Posters Flood OAU Campus(Pictures) by Davo93(op): 6:36pm On Jan 24, 2015
http://www.oaupeeps.com/2015/01/remi-sonaiya-campaign-posters-flood-oau.html

One of the presidential candidates for next month's poll, Professor(Mrs) Oluremi Comfort Sonaiya is now one of the top considerations by humans of Obafemi Awolowo University as her campaign posters are seen at every nook and cranny of the university campus.

Sonaiya who is a former lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages of the citadel will be contesting under the platform of KOWA Party. According to her, she is the change Nigerians crave for. “If you really want change, this is it!”

Some students who spoke with correspondents of OAU Peeps News Agency said they will prefer a neutral person like Remi Sonaiya to become the next president as against popular demands for Jonathan and Buhari stating the various unethical approaches been employed by the two to convince Nigerians to vote for them as bad, dividing and violence-provoking. While some students believe KOWA Party is most likely to win Obafemi Awolowo University community during the February Poll, many are of the opinion that the next president will emerge from the candidatures of General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and President Goodluck Jonathan of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

In other news, Pastor Tunde Bakare is expected to speak on “Nigeria Beyond 2015” in Obafemi Awolowo University next week in a programme organized by the Hall Executive Councils of Angola Hall.

PoliticsRe: Buhari 'Not Sorry' For 1983 Coup: Does Corruption Justify Military Action? by Davo93(m): 2:31pm On Jan 20, 2015
Seun:
So he still believes it is ok for the military to overthrow a democratic government if the democratic government is corrupt. Incidentally, many people believe that the current government is also corrupt. If the General's view is right, then a military coup in 2015 is justified...

Do you agree? undecided (I strongly disagree because dictatorship is a greater evil than corruption. You can fight corruption within democracy)
This is one of those areas I have issues with Mr Buhari. Much more than he not been apologetic about what he did back then, I want to be sure if this man believes in Democracy. The same military man that truncated a democratic setting of a nation because he felt it was corrupt now wants to democratically rule the same nation. Mehn, Nigerians are not fools!

Like you suggested, Mr Buhari could have mobilized some of his children(today's military heads) to take after him and solve the corruption problem we have in this nation. Probably GMB now understands that decadence in a democratic system can be solved in a democratic way?!

I will continue to say that the sole reason why many of us may consider voting Buhari in the next poll is just because GEJ is unapologetically condoning corruption. Thus, most of our resources are lost to that course. We believe corruption level will reduce for the mean time when GMB comes on board.

Notwithstanding, I will continue to tell Buharists that GMB is not a Saint like many of his warriors portray him.
