Nihilist: Nigeria is buckling under the weight of it's overbloated beauracracy, that much is true....but that is NOT the reason we are in penury.
And an over-dependence on Oil is also not the reason we're so poor...even though it looks that way.
We are poor simply because the amalgamation of 1914 was a mistake of epic proportions.
By forcefully merging several previously sovereign and culturally disparate nation states into one, the British inadvertently created a never ending struggle for power and resources among the 265 ethnic groups, that has manifested in the forms of corruption we see today: Nepotism,theft and Militant ethnic jingoists.
The race to Aso rock has now become a race to plunder, with the Efik man not giving two fvcks about his countryman from Gombe, and why should he? He is Efik first, and Naija for life at football or when bragging to the Ghana man.
It is too late now to break Nigeria up into smaller more governable fragments, but what we must do at least put Nigeria on the right path is to truly federalize the Government, by devolving more powers from the centre and moving it closer to the grass roots.
We need to foster economic and infrastructural competition between states, with the Federal Government taking more of a 'Big Brother' approach.
This is not the way to fix the country, but in my opinion, it's the best way to start. There's a warri saying ( in pidgin) that goes thus "word when e correct dem nor dey drag am" and this piece follows the dictates of that saying! |

chachanga: OMG! This was my 1st taste of the experience except for the fact that i was peeing in the toilet and it felt so real...I was like 11yrs old. I had woken up after some sleep feeling full to bursting point. Rushed to the loo, gratefully opened the floodgates and let loose a long string of "Pure Water " that'd make Poseidon envious.
Only for me to now wake up in the midst of a very wet bed .
OK, so i first perched like the way you see one of those Hurricane Katrina victims on rooftops .
It wasn't quite 12seconds, my Muse brought me the golden keys of Wisdom...I NUDGED/ROLLED MY COUSINS ON MY SIDE OF THE BED (he had it coming for eating my fish at meal time earlier ) , I CHANGED INTO DRY SHORTS &SINGLETS, HID MY BRIEFS DEEP IN THE WARDROBE, CHANGED MY COVER-CLOTH AND LAID BACK TF DOWN Praying Such Dream don't come again else Am Finished !
DON'T BLAME ME JOOR...JSS2 Boy still bedwetting...chai , I wouldn't have survived the shame !!
NB I've loads of dreams like that since then, to the point that sometimes I kinda know the trigger point for activating Reality; like I got good at seeing through those Matrix-ish layers eventually. Because that ability has saved me a lotta needless night-time pain and anxiety.
Quite enough times, I've experienced being in some jeopardy in my sleep and some primordial deeper level knowing bubbles up telling me "IT's a Dream, burst out of it now!" and I jerk tf awake.
So, I don't know if anyone's had it to that level sha; where you can consciously observe those DE JAVU type layers and peel 'em back. - I watch way too many Horror flicks (for the MakeUp Effx), - have a mind boggling collection of Sci-fi Movies (starting from The Fly, Star Trek (1976 release up to last week's picks!) - E-books yapa thanks to PirateBay+ other Torrent sites (10's of thoousand literarily, had to admit to meself one day there was no way I was reading all that ish in dis one life time) [A 3TB Hard Drive crashed on me once and i grouched for months] - my profession and hobbies (won't tell ya) also influence a bit I can't really say what's responsible for my my switch in that direction; although am now much of Night Owl and when i sleep to dreamless nights, i still wake up many times tired like say i slept but my mind was processing in overclocked state all night
But, I'll really like to know if there's folks who've been able to do that Neo's kinda decoding ish where you get to even see through it or how you deal with it because av been having this mothas like every other month or so. (Specifically tha reason i stayed off Pot, ghanja etc in High School, shy.t was complicated enuf already).
Pls, share more. I'd wanna know!
@OP, helpful thread...kip it coming your post almost word for word is the story of my life right down to the farme a coz for the pee and hide the evidence ish... even the wake yourself from a dream was something i thought made me weird. I took it to a level where I could switch dreams like flicking the channels on my tv... I simply tell myself even while sleeping that its a dream and I dnt like it and I either wake up of change the channel! Mind boggling sh*t ryt there. Lol |

tohpahz: Rarely dream.. but I've had this experience before.. when i was younger.. one was urinating ish.. Was slpin and i had to pee,woke up from d sleep and went to the toilet ,did my business thinking i was awake.. later woke up really nd i had wet the bed..
Another was wen i dreamt in my dream.. that my dad had an accident.. den i woke up from the dream(1st layer) and my dad told mi he was travelling that Morning, i started crying telling him not to go.. he said he had to and he'd drive carefully.. i continued crying and den woke up crying (2nd layer) .. I had that bed wetting false awakening too as a child... funny part if after constant spanking and scolding my mind altered the dream sequence... so at one point when I wake up in the dream to go urinate, no matter how hard I try I cant pee into the toilet bowl but instead on the floor around it... the moment this happens my mind wakes me up for real... to go pee for real! Lol... I hope this doeant sount like gibberish but its hard to explain in a compressed form |

jascon1: well, he was only a staffer in NTA when he started his business. So, he didn't trade with politics money. Am not saying he didn't embezzle, but I'm saying robbing the govt for the interest of the ppl is a nice incentive at this time. Since the govt don't know how to invest to provide jobs, then let someone make the move. He is no robinhood.... he embezzled for the benefit of himself alone... telling his he flies economy is B.S ( and not to mention, a LIE). When he does sumfin worthwhile like donate his entire earnings as a senator to charity then he wud has acquired bragging rights. Till then he shud just shut up and let Naija hear words that actually sound sensible |

jascon1: If a man like Ben Bruce flies first class I won't snap on that. In fact I'll purchase the ticket for him myself. What am saying is, this man was intelligent enough to know that Nigerians are jobless n he put his money in the economy thereby providing thousands of jobs. Only if all those thieves could do the same. We won't have so much joblessness in the country. Imagine a joint venture by Ibori, Abacha, uduaghan, Tinubu and kwankwaso. If these men alone bring their money together they can provides jobs that our poverty rate will drop to less than 2%. Hes just an intelligent theive... keeping a low profile or modest lifestyle... doesnt change the fact that he ran in close circles with known embezzlers and is most definitely one himself. If he like make e open 20 orphanage homes, thief na thief any day any time |

Freemanan: I have been opportuned to live with Nigerians from different ethnic backgrounds and religion. By far the most ethnocentric and sentimental of them all are the YORUBAS and the IGBOs. My reasons are numerous and are based on observations marred with objectivity, some of which are;
1. An average Yoruba person believes only a Yoruba man knows everything and can serve in any capacity, something of which any other man cannot. 2. An average Igbo man believes his clans men are the economic nerve of Nigeria and without them, Nigeria will die of penury. #wrong Nwanem. 3. An average Igbo man will prefer to eat in an 'Igbo restaurant ' than any other when he's outside his region (he thinks no one cooks better than them). 4. An average Yoruba person will dialogue in his native dialect with his kinsman even in an heterogeneous gathering! Family house corpers! 5. An average Igbo person will sell something cheaper for his kinsman than he would an alien tribe.
Now to the south south people of Nigeria, the most neutral and objective set of humans I have met yet. They give little credence to ethnicity, they relate to anyone from any ethnic group. They aren't hostile to visitors and they have no crass for 'tribal nationalism'. #Warri #Ogoni #Eket #Calabar #Benin #Ekeremor...
My sincere observations and opinions I have spent almost ten yrs in Yoruba land.... 6 at Akure and another 3 and still counting btween ogun and lagos.... Yorubas are the most tribalistic pple I have ever met. They may be nice to u but they will never accept u as their equal or better. The worst and funniest example of their tribalism happened to me when I was in the university... we were in class waiting for lecturer and me and a friend were conversing in urhobo when a girl in front of me ( who incidentally had been gisting in Yoruba with her friend) turns to us and says "why are u pple speaking delta here? Its very tribalistic of you" the argument that ensued is best imagined! Lol. |

literarymathy: I just don't get it? this your erratically disturbing behavior towards the Urhobos. Maybe I should psychoanalyse you;
Did you have a rough childhood? Were you molested by your Uncle or parents? Did you have any sexual fantasies towards your sisters or mom? Maybe it's an Oedipal complex. Were you a social pariah in school? Or were you bullied by better looking and more intelligent dudes? Are you xenophobic because you were raped by an Urhobo man when you were in Ogwashiuku prison? Or are you simply tormented by the evils you did yourself?
Please Freemanan take over the analysis from here, this guy needs a stronger hand. his family probably had to live on charity after his lazy incompetent father was sacked in favour of an hardworking Urhobo man... hence the acute hatred, Or more likely, his mother finally left his father when she realised his phileandering and drunkness was ingrown in his blood and that of his kin. Salt on the injury was that she ended up with an Urhobo man who completes her world beyond her wildest dream... |
