I worked as a consultant in a multinational to the Energy industry.

My Clients were Major Multinationals in Nigeria in Escravos, lagos and Bonny Island.

I contacted my Professors when applying because your recommendation letter is a part of your application and your application would never be deemed complete without it.

I did NOT graduate with a First Class.

When applying to UH If you are not a Petroleum Engr graduate you would have to take 4 prerequisite classes

Introduction to Petroleum Engineering
Reservoir Engineering I
Petroleum Fluid Properties and Phase Equilibria
Origin and Development of Oil & Gas Reservoirs

I also had the responsibility of teaching my younger ones school work during holidays.

I would conduct fake exams, Make report card(and design it) for my sisters. When my dad came for the weekend he would tell them to go and bring all what I thought them.

He would check what i thought them and my teaching methods before asking me how many chapters of Lacombes, National Common Entrace by Odiaka, New general maths, Further Maths Project, Nelkon, Abbott, Ababio, Stone and Cozen Biology I was able to complete in the week (With a stern face).

My mom who was a teacher I would help her to mark her students script, grade her students, (When she was getting her higher degree, I would help her to write her notes) Its not easy to be a first born boy

^^ You were lucky you had brother who were close to your age that you could play with.

I had 2 sisters after me and my only bro was 9yrs younger. Friends were not encouraged to visit cos of the kind of scrutiny my parents would give them and I wasnt allowed to go out either.

I learnt a lot in my moments of solitude which included learning all the countries of the world and their capital by age 9. I still remember till today

Most times when my dad is not home I would just take a ball and start raising it by myself and play table soccer My right hand vs my left hand.

LOL.

Atimes its fun to be your own friend I tell you

I guess you are right David.

When I had the opportunity of mixing with guys who grew up in a family that the father was non-existent, even despite the beating i received I still appreciate my dad.

You know when you grew up in a family where your dad and mom have been together for over 30yrs, You tend to take some things for granted. Some people just wanted a father figure which was never there and if you knew a lot of folks in the Western countries you would still appreciate your family more.

My dad as much as he flogged me, I got a lot of things from him which were integrity and discipline in all ways of life. Even here where I can go anywhere without anyone checking me I still stay home most of the tme.

One thing my dad says it (A ki gbe ile eni ki a fi orun ro) You cant stand in your house and get into trouble.

Another thing was financial discipline. I still dont understand how my parents were able to feed 4 children with that kind of salary they got. While in Nigeria, I was making over 3 times what my parents made combined at the peak of their careers and I still struggled financially.

When I got here, I have been able to tighten my finances more. As at now, I dont have any credit card cos my dad told me that anything you cant pay for/afford, You dont need it. Despite many ppl telling me to get a CC to build credit, The thought of living in debt scares me.

I guess in all we should still thank God for the kind of parents we had. They had their positives and negatives. I would wish he communicated more rather than flog but I would still take him in his brutal ways than have a non-existing dad, jail-bird dad, a serial drunkard, wife-beater,multiple-kids-from different women dad or womaniser.

My dad now uses me as an example for my youngers ones that : look at Dayo, see how he is doing, that was because he adhered to the discipline we gave him. LOL If only he knew

Do you have a job or source of income? Have you finished your schooling?

Can you take care of yourself and a child without depending on a man?

You might want to answer these questions first before getting married

Lewd posts? Are mine targetted or everyones posts are targetted? Cos I can see many posts with sexual innuedoes flying all over but when the poster is Dayokanu Some people get antsy.

Therefore any post that have GAYYners or ass-anal should be deleted cos GAY, ass and anal all have a sexual conottation to them. Or any post that mentions sodomised, "Vidic was raped", Chelsea were rimmed etc should be deleted

Well I would have been in boarding school at that age so the opportunity of being subjected to a gestapo-like interrogation did not even arise. Anyway your dad being a teacher and all that I am sure he had his own ways of getting info about you. Hence if you were actually as troubesome as listed the info would get back to him regardless of your cover-up attempts.
For that reason most teacher's sons tend to be well-behaved.
Question is if when you were on holidays and you went out and did all/some of these, If your dad asked you what did you do today or "How was your day", Not necesarily Gestapo-like interrogation

I bet the truthful Tensor777, would confess all these since you tell the truth regading the consequences.

The trick is this.

Some school are easier to get into than others, A school like UT Austin and Stanford would be much difficult to get into. You can choose 5 schools 2 tough ones 2 middle one and 1 safe low ranked school(In case others dont work out).

Based on the school ranking, TAMU is one of the best schools for Pet Engr and when you are in school, a lot of coys come to recruit from school. Because they have a stronger network of Alumnis in top companies. The same way it happens in Nigeria, You cant compare the Alumni network and industry standing of schools like OAU, UI, ABU, UNILAG and UNN to Babcock, OSU, FUTO, NAU or ATBU.

While in OAU, Many companies came to recruit students directly from Ifge which they didnt extend to a school like FUTA or UNAD

UH Masters in Petroleum Engr is still kind of new and they dont have the industry pedigree just yet which A&M has. In all UH would be easier to get in much more than A&M. I was also required to write TOEFL and got 100 in the IBT.

I was offered non-thesis in UH.

I declined to be a cougar and became an Aggie. (Find out what that means)

Well these are traits found in every boy . The one thing my dad respected me for when I was growing up was always telling the truth regardless of the consequences.
Personally, I think lying is one of the most intolerable traits in a son, and must always attract much harsher punishment than that for the actual offence the liar is trying to cover up.
I guess you were a different child.

If you went to school and during break you played ball and got beaten by your teachers, you touched a girls bum, later read some soft porn mags, sneaked out of school and was chased my the guards, went to school farm to share a stick of cigarrette with like 7 other boys, bought liquor and drank while in school, made noise and disrespected teachers and was beaten etc If you get home and your dad asked you what you did in school today Would you tell him all those?

Dayokanu would rather lie than tell my dad those things and I believed most boys growing up too would lie.

Thats why I said maybe you were a special breed the Holiest of all and like 0.001% of the population

She arranged for her husband to be killed and the punishment should be death.

The punishment for adultery cant be justifiably death. How can anyone compare adultery to murder, if anyone kills in any country he too should die.

But death sentence for Adultery? Who did she kill by the adulterous act? Which life did she end to justify being put to death and BTW what of the man she commited the adulterous act with?

You brought a lot of these troubles on yourself by being so dishonest and untrustworthy. I suppose your old man was just scared you would turn into an armed robber or a secret cultist and bring his family everlasting shame, what with your position as the first son. I was impressed that he still took time out to instruct you during the punishment sessions.

The question is how would you have turned out if he hadn't seriously dealt with you?? undecided undecided
Almost every child had that streak of mischief. The way you correct them is the key.

Which child do you know that would rather go to school instead of playig or watching TV?

Maybe you were. If you would be truthful, describe yourself as a child growing up.

I could point to several of my friends and cousins that were worse than me yet didnt get beaten the way I was.

I am sure most things I did, 60% of boys my age did or would have done. e.g
gisting instead of going for lessons,
chase girls as teenagers, petty stealing in the house, wanting to go out and play football with friends, read novels instead of science textbooks, want to sit down among your friends and gist/sleep in church instead of sitting beside your dad and listening to some boring sermon, getting your room all so disorganised with clothes and shoes littered everywhere, wanting to hide poor grades from your known-to be-harsh parents.

Tell me which of these were behaviours that are criminal and wasnt seen in other kids growing up

I read thru all your posts and I think your dad was only a little bit worse than mine but they have great similarities in beating and talking maybe cos they were both teachers. Even as a calm lady, I still have some of his scares on my thigh and hand, he used to tell us "ma fun e ni apa ti wa ma fi han awon omo omo omo e" meaning "he will give us scars that you will show to your children and generations to come". I wonder if such scars will be an achievement. I believe this is what made my younger brother so hardened until recently that he is showing signs of changes, even my father now fears him (whereas he was the one that mead him hard).

When my dad is thru with cane, he will turn to punching, slapping and all sort. Food may not be enough at home but cane (pankere) was never scarce. And just like yours, we were all intelligent in school.

Same goes to my cousins cos we later realised all our parents were the same and we were all very stubborn and pretensive.
Your stories are so similar to mine and even the words ma fun e ni apa ti wa ma fi han awon omo omo omo e

That I am beginning to think probably my dad was the one who fathered you too and we might be siblings (jokes).

Now when he cant do anything to me, We dont connect that much again.

One good thing the beating thought me was to be very sharp and creative. My dad was Inspector gadget so you have to be very good to beat him

I had lots of girlfriends while in High School and was very mischievious but my no one in My family ever knew anyone. I didnt even let any of my siblings know cos I learnt that "The best kept secrets are those you never told anyone" My timing were always so perfect. And that has helped me in a lot of ways.

After High school, I was at home and I used to bring girls home a lot in the morning but Its always perfectly timed. between 9am and 1pm I would clean up the house so no one would even remotely suspect. I had no accomplice and I had to plan and execute all by myself.

El Razur,
Regarding the apologies, I didnt care that much and They wont bring back the childhood I lost and I seriously doubt the apologies meant they wont do it again if given the opportunity. Maybe its just a way of closing ranks with you when they are kind of powerless to make decisions on you and maybe soon you might be making decisions for them.

No parent want to lose a child so they were just doing damage control to keep you from being estranged.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: The Manuel Almunia Chronicles by dayokanu(m): 7:08am On Sep 23, 2010
Almunia is a disgrace. What do you except from a goalkeeper who became first choice at age 30.

He cant man the post for any top European club but since Arsenal is a small club without history he can get away with it.

Almunia can not stand close to Michael Rensing who was sent away at Bayern not even Thomas Kraft

Out of 20 EPL keepers, Almunia would struggle to make top 10

Cech, VDS, Reina, Hart, Given, Jaaskelainen, Friedel, Sorensen, Howard are wayyy better

Very few Arsenal players can hope to play for top clubs Maybe Arshavin, Fab and a few others

What a useless club

I think it was more on page 9 or so. Your dad apologising (or was it something along the lines of making him see the error of his ways). I was just wondering if it gave you a relief that's all.
Actually The setting was like this he was sitting and he called me. I was standing there in my usual posture looking down, hands to the back when he now told me to go get a chair and sit beside him

He was just giving me the story of his life how he had to struggle for everything.

His own parents were illiterates and they lived in the North wanted him to be a lorry boy but he came downsouth at age 9 to hustle for himself, He did every menial job from hawking to Houseboy that he atimes ate food worshippers of their family masquerade brought as sacrifice

while training himself in school The story long wella.

He doesnt want us to go through what he went through that was why he was hard/harsh on us.

After he gave me an assignment to go look up Freedom/Independence in the dictionary and write a two page essay on the advantages and disadvantages of Freedom. And for me to conclude if Freedom was a good thing or Not.

Relief? I couldnt be bothered at that time, I was actually bidding my time to leave the house and be on my own. All he said I didnt respond. I just sat there and was nodding.

I just understood were he was coming from that was all. And he assumed that his training methods were perfect because it worked out well for me, I always excelled at academics because I felt that was the easiest and fastest way for me to leave home.

And that was a major reason why schooling in UNILAG and UI was a No No to me. Too close to home
