They give them NOTHING!!!! remember once they short list the final 3, the rest should go and Sempe
Were they supposed to give them something in the first place ni?

They shortlisted people a player makes top 6 in the whole world

Has Kanu ever come out to complain the FIFA or Blatter owes him money or gift for the 6th place?

Help me understand

what honour would that be for 6th place
The honour would be he was acknowledge the 6th best player in the world for that year

That only 5 players of the thousands were adjudged to be better than Kanu worldwide in the year 1996

A lot of pro footballer never achieved this in their whole career

Really.... if am Correct Finidi was in the same team as Kanu, even Finidi was a starter at Ajax Kanu was a bench warmer.... so what height are you talking about.... Mikel Obi also won the Champions League played a more crucial role than Kanu at Ajax...
What exactly is your point? You have mentioned everyone from Weah to Finidi to Mikel to Obasanjo and Kim kardashian

I am wondering what this has to do with Kanu being the best Nigerian footballer ever and way better than okocha
SportsRe: Sagamite's Top 30 Greatest African Footballers Of All Time by dayokanu(m): 10:31pm On Jan 28, 2013
Afam4eva: When Okocha was in Bolton, was he not playing against the best that that league could boast of? He still managed to keep Bolton in the top half of the league.

Okocha is a religion and cannot be wished away. he mad the list of the world's best dribblers which is one of the idiosyncrasies of football. He scored a lot of goals as a midfielder that Kanu could not score as a striker. He mentored Ronaldinho who later became the World best player. Let's give honour to whom it's due abeg.
Afam this is not your palm wine joint World best dribbler is an award given by whom? Who is currently the world best dribbler? who was in 2009?

He mentored Ronaldinho? Please i dont do palwine joint discussion come up with sensible facts

Most of what you posted are your opinions not supported by any Facts.

You can choose your opinions you cant choose your Facts

If am correct Jay Jay Okocha was in the Olympic team but was Kanu in the 94 team? and Kanu spent a chunk of his European career on the bench... its like he had a Hallow career
JayJay was a peripheral player in the 94 team and just a team member in 1996

kanu was the main guy in the 1996 winning squad

Kanu spent a chunk of his career in top clubs where the competition is tough and he started as the top striker for Ajax in a Champions league final a stage Okocha can never play at this world or the next

He spent a huge part of his career on the bench but was number 6 in the world and number 11 in Europe

Edin Dzeko is a benchwarmer but I am certain among Bosnian players he has a higher ranking than starting players like Salihovic, Spahic etc

None but for a Nigerian Striker he is poor

For NIGERIA

KANU 13 (87)
Yekini 37
Yakubu 21
Martins 18
Siasia 16
Amokachi 13 (44)

Jay Jay 14 (midfielder)
If no Nigerian player has ever matched the level Kanu has played and the recognition he has gotten Worldwide then whats the argument about?

Probably Martins is also better than kanu because he scored more goals than Kanu
SportsRe: Sagamite's Top 30 Greatest African Footballers Of All Time by dayokanu(m): 10:12pm On Jan 28, 2013
Afam4eva: Once again you're listing laurels...Like i said earlier, Okocha was the backbone of the Nigerian team for so many years. Kanu has never come close to that ever. Okocha also scored a lot of goals even as a midfielder and held his own in every competition he participated in even when the team does not play well. He was a force to be reckoned with when he was in Turkey, PSG and Bolton.
Afam if you go to Reading or Brentford you would be their best player does that mean you are better than fabregas who is an ordinary team member in barcelona

We saw Victor moses who was messiah in Wigan become an ordinary team member in CHelsea

Okocha was backbone of Nigeria that won nothing. So who is the backbone of Nigeria national team now? That must mean he is better than Siasia, Oliseh etc who were never backbones of Nigerian NT

An addition to the awards you conjure : Official backbone of Super eagles So who is Official brain, Arms, femur, leg, and intestine of the team
SportsRe: Sagamite's Top 30 Greatest African Footballers Of All Time by dayokanu(m): 10:11pm On Jan 28, 2013
ayusco: Yes u r rite its a travesty to compare a striker who couldn't score in 6 AFCONs to a midfielder who scored goals aplenty
Its a travesty to compare a player who won Nigerias best medal ever till date with one who was useless troughout.

Its a travesty to compare someone who played at Ajax, InterMilan, Arsenal to someone who played at frankfurt, Fenerbache, Bolton

Its a travesty to compare a U17 medals winner as a key player, Olympic winning captain, Dutch league winner, UEFA super cup winner, Intercontinental cup winner, Champions league winner, Starting top striker in a Champions league final, UEFA cup winner, FA cup winner, EPL winner with Okocha who won NOTHING ZILCH NADA
SportsRe: Sagamite's Top 30 Greatest African Footballers Of All Time by dayokanu(m): 10:06pm On Jan 28, 2013
Afam4eva: It depends on what basis you're comparing them. That's why i was asking sagamite what criteria he used to come up with his list. If we're talking about winning laurels then Kanu has it over Okocha but there's more to football than winning laurels.
What sensible criteria is Okocha better than kanu?

Kanu won Nigerias highest medal in the sport. Kanu won the highest medal in European club football, Played at the best clubs Ranked highest by FIFA and ballon d or.

Tell me what okocha has more than Kanu except saliva spitting and gum chewing

Am not comparing him and Weah.... all am saying is that he got 32 points which is a long way from Weah 140... so probably the African managers shared the votes...

The Ballon D'or is voted by 50 Sports Journalist around Europe and he Only got 7 votes
Yeah he got 32 votes and 7 votes

Can you tell us any Nigerian player ever who has got more than that?

If I get 3% then someone needs to get more than me to be better . If i get 3% and everyone else got 1% I am stll the best in the class

Afam4eva: You can't ignore a player who won the BBC African player of the year

You can't also ignore a player who was the beginning and end of the super eagles for many years. he carried the super eagles on his back from the late 90s till he retired. let's give honor to whom it's due abeg.
I asked you who gave him best dribbler and who are the current best drobbler best tackler etc.

Kanu won that same BBC African footballer twice on top of his CAF african footballer of the year (2 times)

Its a travesty to compare kanu nwanko with Okocha

Kanu only got 32 points

Weah got 140 points

Ballon D'or...

Kanu got 7 votes and the Ballon D'or is voted by Journalist
So who voted for him in the Ballon D or contest was it African footballers and coaches? We are not comparing Weah to him or why is Weah figures coming out here?

Kanu was 6th in WPOTY and 11th in ballon D or theres a reason he attained that height never achieved by a nigerian
SportsRe: Sagamite's Top 30 Greatest African Footballers Of All Time by dayokanu(m): 9:16pm On Jan 28, 2013
Afam4eva: BUt he was part of the team nonetheless and contributed his own quota to the success of the team...I really have nothing against Kanu Nwanko. I'm just making a case for Africa's best ever dribbler. That's an achievement if you ask me.
Of course the people who sat on the bench contributed their quota.

And Nigerians have come with those useless awards What is African best dribbler? So who is Africans best thrower, Africans best shooter, Africans best passer, African best scorer, African best tackler or is it dribbler they have awards for?

And who is the current African best dribbler or did the award stop after Okocha retired?

Who is Asian best dribbler, Europes best dribbler South America best tacklers etc

FIFA didn't use the Olympics as a criteria, Every coach of every national team has one vote, and the team captain also has one vote to choose who they want.... Well its easy for all the National team manager of African countries vote for Kanu, Since an African team wins Gold for the first time... George Weah, didnt play at the Olympics in both 95 - 96
So are you telling us it was African coaches who voted kanu as 6th in the FIFA world footballer of the year award Just be clear.

Kanu was also 11th in the ballon D or award in 1996 was it also African coaches who were voting him as ballon D or(European footballer of the year)?

In france 98 we beat Spain and Bulgaria before losing to Paraguay and Denmark no prizes for guessing the name of our olympic 'legend' who the line in the games we lost
USA 94, Jayjay was a permanent bench warmer

You cant because games played at the Olympics is not regarded a full senior cap..... so you cant rank a player based on what did in a junior event (despite the age cheating)
Fortunately or Unfortunately the Olympics was one of the metrics FIFA used to make Kanu the number 6 best player in the world.

It was the same thing CAF saw that made them name him best player on the continent

Afam4eva: My point is; why use the olympics to rate Kanu when we're looking at the senior team. Do you know how many goals Opabunmi scored in his street?
The thread is about Greatest African footballer no mention of Olympics or Super Eagle if the Olympic was what FIFA saw to vote him number 6 best player in the world then why should I complain

Goals Opabunmi scored on his street? Is Opabunmis street an international competition? Is Opabunmis street competition the best achievement in Nigerian football history?
