Ondo forests: FG’s support for lawlessness is outrageous

THE Presidency triggered a needless controversy recently with its brash intrusion into the legitimate efforts by the Ondo State Government to secure the lives and property of residents. In an unseemly and swift reaction to an order by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to cattle herders to vacate the state’s forest reserves that had become hideouts and bases for kidnappers and killers, a presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, weighed in to equate the action to ethnic profiling and a violation of the herders’ constitutional right to free movement. The intervention is wrong on all fronts. It lays bare the rabid sectionalism of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), its disdain for federalism and how it is ill-suited to crush the rampaging insecurity assailing the fabric of the republic.

Unerringly, the regime never misses an opportunity to promote the interests of the Fulani ethnic group over and above those of other Nigerians. Ondo, like other South-West states, has been under siege from armed herders, mostly identified as Fulani both local and foreign, but also other groups. Security reports indicate that criminals have joined to pose as herders; they invade, destroy farms with their cattle, kidnap, kill, rape and burn homes and property. Invariably, they occupy the lush forests of the region where they have set up camps to coordinate their kidnapping of victims.

Contrary to the Presidency’s false messaging, Akeredolu did not give a blanket expulsion order. The eviction notice was restricted to the state’s forest reserves, protected areas which no one has a right to occupy. “All forest reserves in the state are to be vacated by herdsmen within the next seven days…,” Akeredolu said. Unambiguously, he explained that it was part of steps to address “the root cause of kidnapping, in particular, and other nefarious activities detailed and documented in security reports, the press and debriefings from victims of kidnap cases in Ondo State.”

“These unfortunate incidents are traceable to the activities of some bad elements masquerading as herdsmen. These felons have turned our forest reserves into hideouts for keeping victims of kidnapping, negotiating for ransom and carrying out other criminal activities.” This is clear enough. And his assertion that as the Chief Law and Security Officer of the state, it is his “constitutional obligation to do everything lawful to protect the lives and property of all residents of the state,” cannot be faulted.

Curiously, in its haste to play the role of champion of the Fulani, the Presidency falsely presented the action as seeking “…to unilaterally oust thousands of herders who have lived all their lives in the state…” There is nothing in the governor’s statement that suggests that. He only rightly ordered illegal occupants out of forest reserves.

Nature or forest reserves are protected areas for flora, fauna or geological interest designated by national or subnational governments for conservation of nature and resources. The International Union for Conservation of Nature says governments keep out human presence from reserves to prevent exploitation of natural resources through grazing, for firewood, fauna and others. Federal and state governments in the United States, Canada, Russia and Australia maintain many. Egypt has 30 covering 12 per cent of its entire territory; Russia has 100 and South Africa’s 20 national parks approximate to about 3.0 per cent of the country’s land area.

All over civilised societies, reserves are not for unauthorised grazing or settlements. Olu Falae, an elder statesman, who has twice been kidnapped and ransomed, as well as lawyers, say the Forest Reserve law and the 1999 Constitution that vests control and use of land on state governors are enough to curb the primitive, crude and intrusive practice of open grazing.

By virtue of their protective status, the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations says forest reserves should remain free from destructive human intervention. There are about 1,129 forest reserves, 29 game reserves, four game sanctuaries and four national parks in Nigeria. The position of the law is that local governments are responsible for the administration of Communal Forest Areas, the state governments control and manage forest reserves, game reserves and game sanctuaries. The Federal Government, under the Exclusive Legislative list, is only responsible for the control, protection and management of national parks. States and the FCT each have an established forestry services division under the appropriate ministry. Each state forest service is responsible for setting and administering policies for its forests. It, therefore, becomes a dangerous national security issue when a government abjures law and order to profess tacit support for criminality. It would have sounded precariously odd if the Olusegun Obasanjo administration had gone out of its way to defend the O’odua Peoples Congress violence or the Goodluck Jonathan government justifying the Niger Delta militants’ bombings and killings. But on Buhari’s watch, this country has never been this awfully governed.

Truly, Nigeria is dysfunctional. Every issue is politicised and ethnicised, making it difficult to unite to defeat common security threats. The imprudent statement by the Northern Elders Forum to herders to disobey the quit order sets the stage for further polarisation. For them, fealty to ethnic identity overrides rational, empirical and scientific considerations, human lives and the country. Reactively, South-West groups are also rallying in support of the governor.

Yet, Buhari, state governors and senior officials and credible intelligence reports have repeatedly admitted that many of the killer herdsmen are not even Nigerians. Global bodies, including the International Crisis Group, say that the country is flushed with weapons from imploding Libya, Mali and other Sahelian countries. And that fleeing desertification in the Sahel region, militants have mixed with herdsmen, jihadists and bandits to flood Nigeria.

And is the resultant effect? The far North has become a vast killing field, the Middle Belt smouldering while the South-West is crumbling too. Apart from frequent attacks on farmers, destruction of farms, kidnapping and rapes, local vigilance groups report the presence of well-armed herdsmen and kidnappers’ camps in the region’s forests and reserves. Freedom of movement is not a licence to perpetrate crime. Everywhere else, there would be a national consensus to crush criminality.

*Buhari’s regime is however duplicitous, declaring on the one hand that bandits are mostly foreigners, but on the other, rushing to their defence whenever their victims react. No country can defeat insecurity this way. Meanwhile, the same regime allows its police to enforce discriminatory, unconstitutional religious Sharia penal law in 12 northern states, destroying alcoholic bottles and investments of non-Muslim business people in a country that claims to be democratic, multi-religious and multi-cultural. Where is the ideal of unity in diversity in all of this?*

*Cattle rearing is a business like any other; it is not superior to other enterprises. It is intolerable that the Federal Government reinforces the odious culture of entitlement of herdsmen to other people’s land and their willingness to “draw from a pool of violence” as Catholic cleric, Hassan Kukah, labelled it, to enforce that claim.*

*This is not Akeredolu’s or Ondo State’s fight alone; it is a struggle for every right-thinking citizen of this country. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” Nigerians should push back against a Presidency fixated on an ethnic, sectional agenda that treats other Nigerians as second class citizens to be subordinated to the interests of local and foreign cattle herders converging on the country from all over West and Central Africa.*

Nigeria’s reality as a disparate amalgam of many nationalities, cultures and interests is daily amplified under Buhari’s divisive watch. Akeredolu and South-West states should not buckle to the harassment and threats. Regional and state security agencies like the South-West’s Amotekun should be strengthened. Open grazing should be banned completely and the rules enforced. Like every other business and social activity, cattle grazing should be regulated, restricted to enclosed and designated areas and carrying of arms prohibited. Institutional laxity that allowed illegal herders, loggers and criminals to flourish in protected reserves to the point of becoming existential security threats should be arrested and the heritage sites effectively managed. Akeredolu and indeed the governors that take the security and welfare of their people as sacrosanct, have the constitution and the law behind them. The task is to use the law to fight crime without fear or favour, religious prejudice or ethnic profiling.

Yes, your dad may be hypocrite camouflaging his real life with Christian religiosity. Agreed.

No, nobody should use this story as a yard stick for measuring or criticizing Christianity. That is the devil's plan behind this story.

Religion / All It Takes Is Love by Daystar18: 2:28pm On May 31, 2020
Let's start with a practical statement: HATERS ARE HARDLY SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE. AND WHEN THEY SUCCEED AT ALL IT IS USUALLY THROUGH EVIL MEANS. If you doubt the veracity of this statement, check out all the rich and really successful men and women in the world today. Now, many Christians pray very often for God to channel his blessings including wealth to them. But very few pause to ask of the requirement for the blessings of God. That requirement is LOVE. Before you hiss, wait, let me explain! Usually God's plan is not just to bless you alone. His ultimate plan is to bless other people through you. Remember the Bible said that God is love. He loves the whole world to the extent that he sent his son Jesus to die for our sins. He loves both the sinner and the Saint. He hates sin but still loves the sinner and that's the reason why he sent Christ Jesus.

That means he designed us to love our fellow human beings and to hate sin, just like him. The conclusion is that if you love your fellow man as God loves them and convince God by your actions that you can distribute his blessings to others, then he will use you as his representative on earth to promote and be a blessing to your fellow man. Do you want to be a channel through whom God's blessing flows? Then love like him. And give like him.

IF YOU UNDERSTAND LOVE, THEN YOU HAVE UNDERSTOOD GOD.

God is love. And he loves all his children. He is not a hater. The only thing he hates is sin.

This is the reason why the hate emotion destroys the health and even the reasoning of the hater. Sickness and diseases are known to follow the hate emotion.

Did I hear you say you love God? In that case you should love what he loves. If God loves man, then you should love your fellow man. If God loves your wife, then you should love your wife. If not you are not a friend or a lover of God. This is the reason why God commanded us to love.

LOVING YOUR FELLOW MAN MEANS YOU WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HARM THEM OR THEIR INTEREST. IT MEANS SEEKING TO TO MAKE THEIR LIVES BETTER.

When God said love your fellow man, he didn't mean love your friends. He meant love all men, no matter their tribe, race or religion. Again, God didn't say love your friends. No he said love all men, whether they love you or not. Brethren, we all know that it is easier to hate people than to love them. And the natural man normally choose the easier way.

But to love like God is not possible by the energy of the flesh or by your own will power. It is only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit which God gives to his children through Jesus Christ.

Come to Jesus today and begin to love like God.
Religion / Is God Partial? by Daystar18: 12:04pm On May 24, 2020
Some men and women were born with great physical strength and energy. While others were born lacking in these things. Some have excellent health and hardly fall sick while others fall sick very often. Is it not the same God that created all of them? Is God partial?

Some men were born with great intellect and even wisdom. While others appear dull and even foolish. And the same God created them all. Is God partial?

The truth of the matter is that there appears to be inequality in our NATURAL endowments but we are all created by the same Almighty God. Why is this? Is God unjust? Is he partial?

The answer is NO. God is not partial and unjust neither can he ever be. It is not in him to be partial. The most important truth in the world is that God never DESIGNED man to live alone by man's NATURAL attributes and gifts. God designed man to live through God's own spirit and power. This is actually what the whole Bible is all about....that's God telling man "You cannot be what I designed you to be without my Spirit and my power in you". No matter how strong, or intelligent or rich or powerful or successful you think you are, you have not and can never fulfill what God designed you to be until you allow his spirit and his power to enter you. The scripture says that by natural strength shall no man prevail. This very truth is repeated in many different ways all through the Bible.

Then God finally sent his son Jesus the Christ to the world so that whoever accepts him is automatically born in the spirit of God. And God's power follows his Spirit if only we can walk in obedience to the word of God.

It is the entrance of the spirit of God into man through Jesus that equalizes all men. By this all redeemed men become brethrens. A president, a senator, a labourer, a market woman, all become brethrens in Christ Jesus. That's the way God sees them. Just brethrens! And now, it is up to God to appoint who becomes the leader of the brethrens in Christ. The secular president could come under the leadership of the secular labourer.

Friends, Jesus is the access way to the Spirit and power of God. Go for him and obey his commands and he will make you what the word of God says, both in this life and in the life to come. Amen

Religion / Do You Want Spiritual Powers by Daystar18: 1:18pm On May 17, 2020
Power in any form is necessary to be successful in this life. No wonder men and women go to sometimes unthinkable lengths to acquire this power. So, let's explore the dynamics of power. My sincere desire is that this article will help you to make the right choice in acquiring power.

Whether we know it or not every man and woman exists in two realms namely the earthly and the spiritual realms. Every man dwells here physically on earth but is connected or ought to be connected to a spiritual kingdom from whence he draws power to do work on earth. Probe any powerful politician, business mogul, highly successful person or religious leader, and you will immediately realize that they are all connected to one spiritual kingdom or the other that offer them protection, open all types of doors for them or even go to war on their behalf. Sometimes they may not be directly connected but by proxy can be connected to people who have the spiritual connection.

The amount of power that flows to each man is based on his right standing in his spiritual kingdom. In order words the level to which he keeps the rules of his kingdom determines the level of power he enjoys. This is a very important point that many ignore to their own chagrin. Also, the way you utilize the power avaliable to you determines whether you receive more or less power. Therefore, recieving power means you must be actively serving and be obedient to the rules set by the deity that supplies you power.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people on earth today are not serving any spiritual kingdom. They are just existing in the natural power of their muscle and their intellect. This set of people are just accidents waiting to happen because it is easy for those who are serving spiritual kingdoms to influence the lives of those who are not. Why? Because the spiritual realm is far above the natural in power and energy. To be unconnected to, and actively serving a spiritual kingdom is a very dangerous position to be in life, but most people do not realize this.

Power is available from only two sources, namely Satan( the kingdom of darknes) or from God(the kingdom of light). Now, I want you to know this: God the creator of man has built into every human being the right to choose where he draws spiritual power. This is a choice you must make with all sense of responsibility because there are great consequences for choosing wrongly. Let me mention here a very important spiritual principle namely that the shedding of blood is required in the acquisition of any form of spiritual power. The more costly the blood, the higher the spiritual power it will supply. So the range of blood can be from reptiles, birds, big animals and finally human blood which is the ultimate sacrifice in the kingdom of darkness. Also understand this hidden fact; if a person who is backing you in a project is empowered by a demon, you are also indirectly obligated to that demon.

The kingdom of darkness will give you the power you seek if are able to meet the draconian and by many human estimation the mostly wicked pre~conditions they have set. The level of your power depends on the rank of the demons and principalities you are connected to and serving. Therefore it is always possible that someone connected to a higher demon can bring down someone serving a less powerful demon. To continue to enjoy power, most demons and principalities will continue to require top-up blood sacrifices from time to time. Another major trouble with acquiring power through demonic covenants is that they can never willingly let you go. The only way out of such covenants is to pay with one's own life or be delivered by a higher power.

The kingdom of God Almighty which is the kingdom of light can also give one power. Now, this the ultimate of all powers. Why? The blood sacrifice for this covenant was the blood of Jesus the son of God. The power released to man through this covenant is that power that is above all powers. The only gateway to this power is Jesus Christ. The power of God is available to all Christians but like in all spiritual covenants, you must keep the terms of the covenant and serve the owner of the covenant. You must settle in your heart that you will serve God and obey him all the days of your life. Then watch and see him manifest himself and his powers in your life. The reason why most Christians appear to be powerless is because we have not settled it in our heart that only the word of God must rule our lives no matter how difficult a situation is. Try this and see how faithful and real God is!!

Recieve Jesus as your savior today, and get baptized in the Holy Spirit. Then make a decision that you will live by the instructions of the Holy Bible and you will be on your way to a world of power. Make the Bible your daily friend.

Finally, let it be known that every convenat made outside the blood of Jesus will result in eternal damnation. The Bible is clear on the fact that helfire is a real place. Think about this. Is it not better to invest in where you are going to live forever than where you will soon bid good bye. Heaven is also real place. Now the choice is yours.

Family / Re: Bullying Make African Kids Stronger But Kills The American Kids: Why by Daystar18: 10:45am On Oct 18, 2013
Such a saaaaad story. But two factors are usually at play when a situation like this occurs. The major factor is a culture in which suicide is regarded as a cry for help as opposed to the African concept of suicide as an abomination. In other words, the American culture sympatizes with suicide victims but the African culture is generallyangry with them. The second factor is poor self~esteem which could stem from all sorts of psychological issues. Many victims tend to cover this up but sooner or later they are unmasked when they cannot stand up to bullies. Bullying is part of life and it can never go away.

Religion / Re: Bishop David Oyedepo, The "Money Man" by Daystar18: 1:35pm On Jun 29, 2013
bolaino: I sometimes wonder why africans, Nigerians in particular have refused to be rational in their thoughts and actions, they would rather close their eyes to the hard truths about life.

bishop oyedepo is a billionaire, a man who is extremely rich, a man who is rumored to have over four planes, and lots of landed properties all over the world, but who claims he makes his money from his career as an architect and as a professional writer, (does his books sell more than JK rowlings books?) I believe if the IRS should audit him, they would discover that he is the richest black man,

I have a lot of issues with this man, a man who is violent, a man who is full of himself, and a man who deceives millions of people into giving their hard earned money to his ministry, by promising them greater returns on their investments, or on their tithes and offerings, this man talks about nothing other than giving, money, this man is the king of materialism,

how can Nigeria move forward, when we have men like this who only care about their church members bringing money to their churches, not caring where these monies come from, that's why his church has a very high percentage of criminals, from yahoo yahoo boys and runs girls, to thieving politicians and ritualists, if this country is to change for the better, men like these and their ideologies have to be let go off.

You certainly think you are smarter than every member of the Winners church or indeed any other pentecostal church who gives offerings, tithes and donations for the advancement of the gospel of the living God. And there are millions of them. For this, I think you are the one that is full of yourself and not bishop Oyedepo. Have you ever bordered to ask yourself what makes intelligent, educated, highly rational, professionals and captains of industries to willingly part with their resources for the sake of the gospel? These are certainly not gullible people or air heads. I believe there is something they have found which you, as an outsider, do not know about. Something must be moving them. No doubt there are many people in the Winners commission with considerable financial resources. Many of such people actually came into the church as battered, beaten wretched paupers but their lives were transformed when they encountered the light of Jesus the Christ.

When people come to a better understanding of the nature of God and imbibes what the scriptures say about giving to the kingdom of God, they do not need any persuasion to give their resources to the church. They give so that kingdom of God and the gospel will continue to spread and to bring more people to the light of the true God. They do not give to Bishop David Oyedepo or pastor Enoch Adeboye or to pope Francis. These men only oversee the judicious application of the resources of the church.

One thing I have come to notice about people like you that cast wild allegations on bishop Oyedepo and the church he oversees is that they hardly know the man they are talking about. I urge you to pick up one or two of his books( he has over 60 books) and by the time you are done reading them you would certainly have a change of mind. You will also realize therefrom that the root of the message he preaches is for you to allow God to control your spirit man through faith in Jesus Christ. Prosperity and riches are only the fruits of that presence of God. It is that simple! Bishop Oyedepo is a man that is high on the annointing and power of God but many will chose to focus on his wealth and not on how much his message has changed the lives of millions of Christians. The private jets the pentecostal churches buy for the church leadership are for necesity and logistics. The Winners church for example has branches in over 64 nations of the world. Those jets serve as transportation, offices and worship centers while in flight.

I will leave you with a quote from 1st Corinthians 2:14 which says "But the natural man recieveth not of the things of the spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." My friend you are still a natural man and seeing the Light from far away. Come near the Light, and you shall find the truth and the truth shall set you free.

Btw Oyedepo chasing the kidnapper with a sword in his dreams sounds occultic to me and not the way the holy spirit would operate.

Nobody gave any credit to bishop Oyedepo. They just narrated the facts of story or testimony if you like. What do you know about the operations of the Holy Spirit? Oyedepo is the apostle over the Winners church. You come to his domain without fear and kidnap one the flocks the Lord God has given him to shepherd. That kidnapper saw the consequences of his action. Infact God loves that kidnapper, that is why he allowed him to see Oyedepo pursuing him with a sword. That way the kidnapper knew where his problems are coming from. That is exactly the way the Holy spirit will operate.

Politics / Re: Fashola Sues Jang Faction Of NGF by Daystar18: 9:57am On Jun 03, 2013
mikeansy:

Yes the NGF has no jurisdiction, but if Jonathan and his cohorts decide to use the forum as a new frontier to display their dictatorial tendencies it is important for all men of goodwill to rise up and say, "NO, Not this time!".

It is Amaechi today, it can be Fashola or someone else tomorrow. That is why Fashola is on point reminding the Presidency and their lapdogs that we are supposed to be a Nation of laws!

PDP can open another forum and call it whatever they like. But the chairman of NGF is Amaechi and the court will establish that fact very soon.

Grown up men can not take part in an electoral process and then turn around to question whether the election itself should have happened after they lost! Thats moving the goal post!

Moving the goal post? It is more like REMOVING the goal post!

Oga Obad, its the Holy Book of her religion that said a man's days are threescore and ten, not me.

70-67=an inch away from the grave!

The Holy Book says a minimum of 70yrs. That means, It can be more than that... say even 200!

automaticcarzz: I have been living in the U.S since year 2001. I will be returning home when there is 24hr power supply. When there is good road network. When police are able to respond to calls within 5 minutes. When there is emergency health and fire response squad that respond to emergency within 5 minutes. When there is rule and order. When the police stop brutalizing the people they suppose to protect. When there is true democrcy. When the President stops harassing political opponents. When there is adequate security of lives and properties.

Man, this thread is not for you, then!! You will never come back.
