Yup!...still looking for these better days and the milk and honey.

Please if you have come across any UCW group for spring 2023, could you kindly share or add me

buchito1:
Hey guys! Been soo long here! I really cannot remember how long it has being.

Today 2nd April 2033 makes it exactly 1 year of me been in Canada. And all I can say is that it's only been God, support and encouragement from my family back home and the family I already created here in Canada. How I have been surviving? I don't know! It's only God!

Cause without him, I wouldn't be writing this epistle right here.

The struggle has been hard, crazy, intense, lots to learn, combining working and going to school (even the jobs ain't easy to come by). God has been faithful to me, brought good people around me (Nigerians) because really, good people are hard to find here. Over here, nobody has time for you, nobody really cares about you. Everybody's trying to survive, everyone's almost lost in the struggle. That friend wey you think say na your bestie, ask am for $50 and watch as e go tell you him life history come run leave you in seconds.

Guys don't believe anyone who tells you Canada is all bed of roses! It is a fat lie!!! Canada is not for the faint hearted!!! Nothing is easy to get here, you must work like a donkey and follow due process to get anything you want.

When I was in Nigeria, I have never worked like the way I do here! Even the school wey them dey tell us that year say e easy pass primary school, I can categorically tell you that our education at home is decades away from what they're doing here. The education system here can make you mad! Most especially if you don't make enquiries and also ask questions (follow who know road) you'd be lost! I almost lost it in my first semester, till I began to ask questions.

For the work aspect, guys, don't mind those nonsense people keep saying, say "work full Canada", Zero your mind you might not do anything here for months. Even if you see something doing, you'd do everything you've never done in your life. There's no Job I've not done in this country, I think the only Job I haven't done is to wash dead body, which I'll never do. ☠️

Be prepared to be humbled. Jobs you feel you could never ever do in Nigeria, be prepared to do them here, unless you came into the country with a sh*t pile of cash, but if you're like us, wey tell IRCC say we get 100K USD for the account 😂 then you have to be prepared to do all sort of things just to survive.

I know lots of people who haven't done anything in more than 5 months here. Living with their Naira's from Nigeria. Like I said, don't be deceived by what you see on the Internet on how excess jobs in Canada. The good jobs here, nobody's ready to leave it, especially those Indians (I call them Fulani Herdsmen) those Herdsmen are everywhere like flies! Every nook and cranny, them dey, and trust me, na them dey get update pass, but never trust them, they'll boot you off when they have the chance!

For the weather aspect, I live in British Columbia. It's fair to say it's the warmest province in the whole of Canada. But when I mean warm don't think Nigerian warm or South African warm. Warm in the sense that were currently on 3°C and during extreme weather conditions it could get to like - 14°C. Don't forget freezing point for your freezer na 0°C grin so literally, we live inside freezer.
I stayed in Toronto for about 4 months and the weather is way more extreme than British Columbia. Good thing is for those coming in this April, the weather has gotten better, but is still gonna be so cold for newcomers. So please come prepared with good winter dresses.

Another thing is this, guys don't do the mistake of coming to Canada without any $$$, abeg come with something to support yourself for sometime, e dey very important. You don't wanna come here and start begging, you need funds to survive as a first timer. It's extremely important.

Mehn, it's being a journey for me here, trust me, so many ups and downs, if I tell people, them go tell me say better days dey come... Like this, I still dey find that better days oh! 😭 But God dey..

Thanks to SEUN for this platform! Without Nairaland, my journey to Canada wouldn't be possible. I also thank all the good people who assisted me during my process e no easy! Lianna, lekiboeboe, I can't remember the rest... Y'all are the real OGs!
By the grace of God, it'll rain PPR for everybody here! This thread 22 is gonna be your thread of testimonies! If you believe say a big AMEN!!!
Those refused, please don't give up! You know what you want, restrategise and hit them again! Trust me, you're gonna get it right this TIME! Na who give up fu*k up! I'm rooting for you! kiss

If you're coming to UCW or Vancouver and need information on anything kindly reach out to me, I'd do my best in explaining everything and anything to you.

Thanks for reading my long story guys. Have a lovely night rest ❤️

It sounds crazy when you compare to Naija, but it's a great deal in BC. I think some provinces could have it slightly cheaper tho.

It's a promo targeted at student newcomers in BC. The Telus/Koodo team will be at University Canada West (Granville) on Thursday April 6, 2023
- SIM (new/port, prepaid/postpaid, physical/e-sim)
- Cable TV (+ Streaming packages)
- Internet security
- home security etc

njambert:

$40 for a paltry 20GB internet in a month? That sounds crazy. How about wifi unlimited connection costs?

It's the typical city life. I have not been to New Westminster.

Yes, students can work for up to 20 hours a week off-campus and more than 20hrs/week on campus.
*IRCC made an exception to some students who submitted their applications before a particular date though.

Hello Guys,

Just got to canada yesterday, landed at Toronto

Study permit granted, Glory be to God.

There was interview (questions asked) before study permit was granted

One needs to be confident and the officers need to see that confidence and one needs to answer questions correctly

Please know the things you filled in your application and be able to explain or defend them and have documents to back them.

My POE went thus
What is the name of your school?
What course are you going for?
What did u study before?
Do you have any family back home?
Why is your wife not here with you?
Show me some paper work

That's your study permit, have a good day

And that was all

This is not to scare anyone

The study permit of the guy before me (a Nigerian) got rejected

He was asked for pof, he didn't have statement of account, he was told to login on bank app, he did and the money there was not enough, he said there are people that will send him money from Nigeria, the officer said he showed that he had the money when applying, that how come he is saying something else now. He was asked about his dad's work, he said civil servant, the officer asked him what his dad does for the govt as a civil servant, he started stuttering. The officer later said 'if I refuse your study permit, is there any reason why you won't be able to go back to Nigeria?' He couldn't answer, he was later told to go n sit down. That's was all I heard and saw. Me just waka pass after collecting my own study permit.

How about if one did upfront medicals and is still with the 1-year validity, yet receives medical request?

Hello Hafeez6948

If you got a Medical Request, then its 98% approval..

If its upfront you did, then its 50-50..

The yellow card was given to me by EgyptAir alongside with my boarding passes., told to fill it and drop it with immigration. There were no requirements. Don't sweat it, it's nothing to worry about. It will be given to you at the airport.

CentennialGuy:
Landing Gist - Lagos to Toronto Via EgyptAir. August 9 - 10, 2022.

LAGOS AIRPORT
I got to the Lagos Airport around 8:30am. My flight was for 2pm. I had to give the security guys at the entrance 1k for them to allow my people go in with me. After my luggages went through the scanner, I gave the immigration officers that were suppose to do manual check after the scanner 1k so l can move on. Then I proceeded to Agriculture where I opened one of the luggage that had some food item for them to check. They checked and told me to go. Then I proceeded to EgyptAir stand.

EgyptAir didn't start on time for us because there were some Nigerians going on pilgrimage to Jerusalem via Egypt that they were attending to. They were the majority on our flight to Cairo. Anyways, by 10am I had cleared the EgyptAir check and checked in my bags. They weren't overweight. They asked for ArriveCan, Acceptance Letter, Enrollment Letter and School Fees Receipt.

By 10:30am, my people left and I proceeded to immigration. I was given yellow card by EgyptAir which I filled and I dropped with the immigration officers. Then I proceeded to the scanner where we will drop our carry on bags, laptops, phones, keys etc in a bowl to pass through the scanner. Now, I had the scariest moment of my life at this point. I shared this experience with family members only before now. I decided to share with you guys so you can learn from the experience. Always hold your Passport with you!

At the point of the scanner the immigration officer there asked us to put all our things in the bowl including our passport. It was just me and one Arab guy, possibly Lebanese. He could speak Yoruba and was dashing immigration guys money. So we placed our things in Separate bowls and I went ahead through the scanner but he didn't go through the scanner. The immigration officer asked him to come and he did manual check for him and he let him go.

So I exited the scanner to go collect my things. I wore my shoes, picked up my glasses, phones, wallet and Passport. Passport? My passport with the boarding pass was no where to be found. It was missing! At that moment, it felt like my world has ended and that village people caught up with me. I was in disarray and I started shouting. In the process of shouting, I kept saying it was me and the Arab guy that came to that point together and now my Passport is missing. One of the senior immigration officers approached me and asked me which guy. I turned round and and pointed at him just before he exited that place and be gone forever! The officer approached him. I don't know what he told him because I wasn't looking as I was still in disarray and lo and behold, my Passport and boarding pass resurfaced! The excuse I got is that he also has a Nigerian Passport and he mistakenly took mine. Yet his own passport was still with him. I don't buy that story but all good. God saved and delivered me already. I collected my Passport and left. Whew!

All through the rest of the journey, I held my Passport with me till I exited Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada.

CAIRO AIRPORT.
We got to Cairo around 9pm Cairo time which is 8pm Nigerian time. The Airport is bigger and finer than MMA. A bus took us to Terminal 3 and it was a long walk combined with lift and escalators to get to gate F where will be boarding to Toronto. We waited around for another 3 hours before we started boarding and took off to Toronto around 2am. They only checked our passport, boarding pass and ArriveCan here. I showed them theArriveCan receipt on the phone as the lady in Lagos had taken the only copy I printed. It was a smooth 11.5hrs journey to Toronto. The plane is alot bigger than the one that took us from Lagos to Cairo. Comfy ride all through.

TORONTO PEARSON AIRPORT
We landed in Toronto around 8am Toronto time. Now, this airport is huge. And fine and well layed out. The walk to the self service kiosk is also long but we got there. I had done my declaration ahead in the ArriveCan, so I was pretty quick at the service kiosk. I scanned my Passport, machine took my photograph and printed my receipt. We were taken to the place where will collect our study permit. Our letter of Introduction was collected and we were told to sit down. They called us one after the other. You will enter the office, the border officer will collect your passport, check your info on the system, check your visa and stamp your passport. Then your study permit will be given to you. No questions asked.
I proceeded to baggage claim. When I got there, I asked one of the officers which carousel could be carrying the baggages from EgyptAir because the carousels were so many that I didn't want to be going one by one to check. He asked his colleague on his walkie talkie. He said Carousel 7, I went there. Found my bags in 7 and then in 6. Took the train within the airport to get to Terminal 3 where the car that came to get me was parked and I was on my way.

FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT ON THE FLIGHT.
The food was Okay. Although the Rice, chicken and sauce from Cairo to Toronto was better than Lagos to Cairo. They served us twice Lagos to Cairo and 3 times on the flight from Cairo to Lagos. I filled my time with movies that I haven't watched before. And then a little sleep, a little prayers here and there and I didn't feel bored on the flight till we got to Toronto.

It was a great journey in general. I haven't gone out yet as I only arrived yesterday and I'm still on my bed right now. It's around 8am here. But from our drive from the airport to home, I will say Canada is beautiful. May all of us that desire it experience it all in Jesus name.

PS: Don't forget to come with your universal adapter. The picture attached is what their socket looks like. Buy the one that has USB port with it. It's about 4k.

Have a great day you all!

Thank you.

This was helpful.

Debbieeeeeee:

For me, I’ll usually buy one stop or non-stop to Noth America because multiple stops elongate the journey that is already long and tiring on its own(a personal preference).

The USA requires a transit visa if you don't have a valid USA visa(they're not nice) & Schengen countries too but if you have the USA or Canadian visa you’ll not require a transit visa via Schengen countries(Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt to mention a few) but the USA stays the same, if you’re transiting via the Uk you will not require a transit visa.

Yes YVR is the airport code for Vancouver

If your travel plans are solid then you may not need to spend extra booking a flexible ticket, but if you think you may have to change the ticket before the travel then please buy a flexible ticket because it costs a fortune changing a non-flexible ticket. If you want a fully refundable ticket it’s costlier but safer if your travel plans aren’t solid but it’s just extra money you can save towards settling down at your destination if you have your plans intact.
I hope I have been able to answer a few of your questions, others can chip in.

Good evening

While expecting a positive response from IRCC soonest, I read through the landing gists... I noticed only 2 posts with flight itineraries of more than 1 connecting flight. Considering that flights with more stops are cheaper, I'd expect that it's the other way round.

Please help with a kind response to any of my questions below.

1. Besides the convenience that 1-stop flights provide, is there any other reason more people chose this?

2. Besides USA, are there any other countries to avoid that require transit visas?

3. Could you kindly confirm that YVR is the correct destination airport in Vancouver.

4. There's an option for purchase of refundable tickets. Has anyone had an experience using this for refund or swap?

Thank you.

Hello
I need some help here

Refusal Reason: Purpose of visit
Program studied: Environmental Management
Grade: 2:1
Occupation: Bakery Manager and Supervisor
Intended program: Occupational health, wellness and safety

GCMS
The study plan does not appear reasonable given the applicant's employment and education history.
I note that:
-the client's previous studies were in an unrelated field
-the client has previous studies at a higher academic level than the proposed studies in Canada
-the client's proposed studies are not reasonable given their career path

Re-applying...
I got an admission offer from UCW but 45k CAD lo far plus reviews regarding their refund policy is not encouraging.
So I am considering the PACE(Advanced Business Management) post-grad certificate program at the University of Winnipeg
My concern is the academic progression issue raised by the VO

Hello,

So my subscription expired yesterday and would not auto-renew due to a card issue.

I renewed my subscription today and noticed that all of the history on my Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate course is gone, although it shows 2 out of the 8 modules completed (Please see attached screenshot). I also have my certificates for the 2 modules completed.

My questions are:
1. How do I get back the history (completed assignments, readings and videos watched)
2. Is it fine if I just continue where I stopped without worrying about the above.

Data analyst jobs are remote or they need to report at a physical location?

I'm not a guru, however, from what I've read here so far, if your balance has been steady (no sudden inflows without explanation) for the last 4 to 6 months then you're good, if you had sudden lump sums then an explanation with receipts should cover that.

If providing both statements would prove that you are financially able to sponsor yourself beyond doubt then you can use both i.e if they are both in your name.

I'm guessing you mentioned your dual intent in your SOP.

Could you post how you stated it?

BobLeeSawagger1:
Hi Guys,

I’m back to share the last part of my story! God has finally done.

I started the journey I 2019 when I applied for the SINP nominee program. In January 2021, my application was rejected based on POF. Why? Not because I’d do not show the requested amount, but because I transfer part of the money to an investment account and failed to show the proof as well as LOE.

Due to my determination, I applied again that same month. Fortunately for me, I received another ITA in February 2021, and submitted a complete application in April 2020.

I decided not to put all my eggs in one basket, in the same month of February, myself and my spouse applied to four different colleges (paid application fees) and got admitted to two of the colleges.

Despite having ongoing SINP application, we decided to pursue student route. I reached to different agencies both home and abroad to assist with the student application and also include my family. Most of the feedback centered around me applying first and after three months, my family can join me.

Because I don’t want leave my family behind, I decided to DIY and as God may have it, I submitted the application in April 2021 along with visit visa for spies and kids.

In September 2021, my student visa was approved along with my family visit visa.

I deferred my admission to May 2022 because I did not want to start from Nigeria.

In December 2021, I received nomination letter from SINP and submitted my express entry application on 8th of January 2022

On the first of April, I travelled along with my family to Canada.

Just last two weeks, my express entry application was approved and got my COPR last week.

This platform played a major role and I’m so gratefully.

For those that are still awaiting decisions on their application, be optimistic, it will surely come. Don’t cut corners, follow the process.

If you need any information/clarification, feel free to reach out to me at aababasola@gmail.com

So I have been using the share button to mark posts I'd like to make reference to later.

However, when I go to my /likesandshares, it only shows my posts that have been liked and shared.

How do I view posts of others that I have shared?

vividlooks:

Please note AUTHENTICITY will mean the following
1)Bank will confirm that the name matches what's in their system
2) Balances as stated on the request too.

So, because it isn't stated explicitly what authenticity means doesn't limit it to just verification of name. The opening and closing balances must match.

My husband is the sponsor and I only submitted my salary account( I work in the bank) and my savings that had only 500k.
Canada sent my husband's statement of account to my branch on 10th of June for confirmation and I made sure the confirmation was swift.

Just yesterday someone posted emails of ircc office in different country and I made sure I sent mail to all of them one after the other and just about 9:24am, the Eagle landed.

The Lord is good!!!

An agent did all the application and even gave me logins to everything I wanted.

I pray the voice of favour mention our names into the ears of our visa officers. Favour will speak for everyone!!! This prayer is powerful, just say it all the time and see wonders
