So there is no justication for over 8o% turn out.

Supporters of former vice President Atiku Abubakar in their hundreds yesterday thronged the Yola International Airport to receive him amidst tight security, as officials of the airport declined to open the V.I.P suite. This prompted guests to stay outside while waiting for the former vice president to arrive.

Atiku, who was coming back since last Thursday’s PDP convention which picked president Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate, was received by his North-east campaign coordinator, Dahiru Bobbo, former AC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Ibrahim Bapetel, Marwa’s campaign coordinators, party aspirants as well as supporters of a PDP gubernatorial aspirant, Dr Umar Ardo, among others.

The former vice president, who was excited with the long convoy, thanked the people of the state for the solidarity been accorded to him, saying, “I thank you all for this great support and concern’’.

No PDP state official was on hand to receive him, but his event organizer in the state, Alh. Alhassan Muhammad Goni, popularly known as ‘’AMG’’ told reporters , “The story in Adamawa is the same with jubilating members of the PDP in high spirits to welcome this great man. On sighting our vehicle, the jubilation almost got out of control as people were dancing and singing the praise of the former VP”, he said. AMG, who was in the Nyako camp, noted that the enthusiasm of the people could not be unconnected with the alleged delegates betrayal during the party’s convention. Reports indicate that during his visit, the former vice president might likely meet with aggrieved PDP aspirants who lost out in the primaries as well as some aspirants from the opposition parties towards forming a formidable alliance in ousting the incumbent state governor, Murtala Nyako, as the Marwa and Ardo campaign vehicles were freely used during the return.

He told Daily Trust after his release that, “I was picked up in the presence of my colleagues around Area I0 by three men dressed in suits in an unmarked Toyota Corolla 2008 model. They drove me around for some hours asking me questions on the association’s stand and on the press conference we wanted to have today (yesterday). I told them to introduce themselves, they refused and I said I have been invited before by the SSS and that I don’t know them.

“They even attempted to take my mobile phone, but I resisted. Although they did not rough-handle me, the arrest was enough intimidation, they drove me around before they dropped me off around Zone 4.
