Politics › Presidency Reacts As Chibok Parent Insists Boko Haram Still Controls 49 Towns by deantimes(op): 11:07pm On May 28, 2019*. Modified: 11:30pm On May 28, 2019 |
A Chibok parent, John Bassa, has claimed that Boko Haram is still in control of some towns in the Northeast were the war against the terrorists are still being waged.
The federal government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari has repeatedly said there were no areas in the country being controlled by Boko Haram terrorists. Mr Buhari, while granting a special interview to the National Television Authority (NTA) on Monday, repeated the claim which top officials of his administration has been making at any given opportunity.
However, on Tuesday, Mr Bassa while featuring on a town hall meeting organised by Channels Television, said the claims of the government officials are untrue. “Of course,” the Chibok parent answered when asked if he is sure the terrorists were still in control of some territories in the Northeast geo-political zone.
“Out of 52 towns in Gwoza, its only three right now that you can freely live within. (that is, Limankara, Gwoza town and Pulka).
“Gwoza town was liberated by our former President Goodluck, one week before election then in 2015 and the new administration liberated Limankara and Pulka so, 49 towns are still empty with nobody apart from the Boko Haram.
“They are the ones enjoying those areas and you dare not go there,” Bassa added. The presidency, reacting, said there is difference between infestation and actually controlling of a place. Addressing issues of insecurity during the interview, Buhari said he intends to tackle security at the grassroot level by overseeing that the Nigeria Police is reorganised to ensure maximum security.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to issue the All Progressive Congress (APC) senator-elect his certificate, saying the declaration of results that produced the governor as a winner was made under duress.

Mr Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated his opponents including the son-in-law of the governor, Uche Nwosu, of the Action Alliance (AA).
“Imo State government has kept aside a total of N42.5b for the in-coming government, and for that reason, I will set up a sub-committee to make sure that the projects they are attached to, come to fruition even when I am out of office or when I will not be available because government is a continuum,” Okorocha said. Politics › I Forgave Atiku Because I’m A Practising Christian – Obasanjo by deantimes(op): 6:37pm On Jan 30, 2019 |
Olusegun Obasanjo, former president has said he decided to forgive Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who served him as vice president because he is a practising christian.
Messrs Obasanjo and Abubakar served as President and Vice President respectively from 1999 to 2007 which shows the duo served two terms of four year each as stipulated in the constitution.
An alleged bid by the former president to secure a third term was thwarted by the former vice president and the duo became political enemies since then until last year when Obasanjo forgave and endorsed the former number two citizen popularly known as Atiku, to slug it out with President Muhammadu Buhari, who is seeking a second term in office.
The former president had once claimed God will not forgive him should he forgive the former vice president and endorsing the political ambition of the latter to become president.
Months after he made the comments, Obasanjo backtracked and forgave Atiku who went with religious and traditional leaders to seek forgiveness from his former principal.
Stating why he forgave the 2019 flag-bearer of the PDP, the former president who made reference to the Bible said the development was because he is a practising christian.
“Atiku accepts responsibility for his mistakes, shows remorse and seeks forgiveness from his political party and subsequently from Nigerians,” Obasanjo said in a statement on Wednesday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Lagos Island Club.
“He asks for forgiveness from me and as a believer, a Christian as such, I forgave him in accordance with the teaching and instruction of my Saviour, “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins (Matt 6:14-15 NIV).
“If anybody blames me for forgiving Atiku, I leave such a person with God Almighty, especially as both Christian and Islamic clerics joined Atiku to visit me to seek forgiveness. Anybody who does not forgive when forgiveness is sought with contrite heart cannot be a true believer and should not expect the forgiveness of God,” he said.
Obasanjo also said some people quoted him out of contest when he said Atiku was not the “expected Messiah.”
“Atiku never claimed to be a saint and I never described him as such. I will never so describe any human being alive let alone calling him a Messiah,” the former president said.
“On an occasion in the past when I said that someone was not a Messiah, some Nigerians out of bad belle were up in arms.
“For me, as a Christian, the only Messiah I know and have is Jesus Christ and even then, the man aspect of Him was imperfect while the divine aspect of Him was perfectly messianic,” he added. Source: https://politicstimesng.com/forgave-atiku-christian-obasanjo/ |

Politics › Why Afenifere, Ohanaeze Factions Are Endorsing Buhari, Atiku – Shehu Sani by deantimes(op): 11:12am On Jan 30, 2019 |
Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has revealed why two socio-cultural groups in the southern region are giving conflicting endorsements to presidential candidates.
While Afenifere represents the Yoruba race of the South-West region, Ohanaeze stands in for the Igbo of the South-East geo-political zone.
The two groups are factionalised with each arm from the camps endorsing either Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or Muhammadu Buhari, the flag-bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who seeks a second term in office.
For Kaduna lawmaker, the developments could be traced to the conflicting promises made to the two regions by the current administration. He said this is responsible for the contradictory endorsement.
He had earlier advised the zones to demand a written agreement so as to consolidate on the promise being made.
“While the ruling party is giving conflicting promises of power to the south East and the south west in 2023;the socio cultural groups from the two zones too are also giving conflicting endorsements to the ruling party and the opposition presidential candidates,” Sani said in a tweet on Wednesday, adding that: “Wayo meets wayo.”
Top officials of Buhari’s government, in a bid to persuade their people to re-elect their principal, promised that the president will hand over power to them should they re-elect him for a second term in office. Politics › APC Won Osun Governorship Election With Remote Control, Says Buhari by deantimes(op): 3:39pm On Jan 27, 2019 |
Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President, has reportedly said his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) won last year’s governorship election in Osun with the help of remote control.
Mr President is quoted as making the above statement on Saturday when he visited traditional rulers in the state seeking their endorsement for his re-election.
The governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in September was won by the APC although the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took early lead.
A rerun election which was later conducted in the areas believed to be the stronghold of Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) saw the ruling party leading the opposition party.
Mr Omisore, POLITICS TIMES recalls, had entered into alliance with the APC to deliver his stronghold to the party. This was after he met a delegation of the PDP seeking similar help from him.
“I know how much trouble we had in the last election here,” Buhari was quoted by TheGuardian as saying while addressing the traditional rulers at the banquet hall of Osun State Government House.
“I know by remote control through so many sources how we managed to maintain the party (APC) in power in this state,” he added.
The president at the meeting did not elucidate clearly what he meant by remote control.
The monarchs were led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan.
Since the start of his campaign, Buhari has been caught severally goofing at campaign ground.
The most recently is when he addressed a governorship candidate of the party as the governortorial candidate after being corrected from “presidential candidate” and “senatorial candidate” proclamation he had bestowed on the party’s flag-bearer earlier.
