Tinubu: Why Buhari Deserves A Second Term

BOLA Tinubu, a Chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), has opined why President Muhammadu Buhari deserves a second term in office.

Mr Tinubu said Mr Buhari should be re-elected because he has kept his key campaign promises to Nigerians.

Delivering his address at the official conferment ceremony of the award of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the late MKO Abiola on Tuesday, the APC chieftain said the president should be given another chance to do more.

“Farewell to poverty, it’s not a question of a second term – you deserve it. We’re going to work for it, no annulment of it, we are going to win with you,” Tinubu said while describing the president’s bid for re-election as a struggle to expel poverty not only in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole.

“It’s the struggle of Africa to banish poverty. You are investing in education; which is the greatest weapon against poverty, you’re feeding our children, we are no longer paying for darkness and we are able to feed ourselves, not importing toothpicks anymore, thank you Mr President,” he added.



On the honour given to Abiola, the former Lagos State Governor said regardless of what people say, the President should remain rest assured that he made a good move and always has his support.

“You made a promise that you will be committed to transparency, rule of law and bring about compliance with the constitutional democracy, you’ve done it now.

“Yes, the authors, writers, columnists will come up with all sorts of analysis about why you did it, yes you did it.

“The creed of the campaign of the man whom you honoured principally, was hope.

“Thank you for bringing hope back to Nigerians,” Tinubu said.

IN what looks like one week one frame-up allegations against the federal government, another one has just been blown out.

Just last week, former president, Olusegun Obasanjo blew out his own version alleging the government wants to bully him into submission and illegally detain him indefinitely.

The upper week was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleging plots by the federal government to crush opposition politicians into silence ahead of the 2019 general elections.

For this week, the latest allegation this time around is coming from Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who had earlier raised alarm of plots to assassinate him and blamed it on accidental discharge.

Mr Wike in his new claims, alleged that the government’s latest plan is to set him up for arm trafficking.

He stated this on Sunday during a thanksgiving service in honour of Azubuike Nmerukini, chairman of the state local government service commission, in Port-harcourt, the state capital.

“The federal government has arranged with a Lebanese to say that I told him to buy arms for the purpose of the forthcoming elections,” Wike said.

“I am not close to any Lebanese, let alone give money to anyone to buy arms for elections. We have dutifully served our people and we don’t need to purchase arms for elections.

“If elections are held 20,000 times, we will win because our projects have positively impacted the lives of our people,” he added.

Wike said as part of their plot, the government is scheming to foment crisis in the Rivers state through rigging so that the state’s elections would be postponed in 2019.

“They plan to cause so much crisis in the state so that Rivers election is held on a separate date. Their plot will fail. Rivers election will hold same day with that of other states,” he said.

The federal government is yet to officially react to Wike’s latest claim, though it dismissed the governor’s earlier claim and that of the former Nigerian leader.

The one raised by the opposition PDP was debunked by the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC).

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari of claiming the achievements of the National Assembly.

The PDP said the recent attempt by the Buhari Presidency to ascribe credit to Mr. President for the recent amendments to the constitution, particularly the granting of financial autonomy to state assemblies and judiciaries, was despicable.

The party noted that neither the Presidency nor the President himself, made any input in support of these amendments.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Assembly matters, Ita Enang, on Friday announced that President Buhari had signed a bill into law which allows the independence of the state judiciary in several ways.

Mr Enang said the bill grants full autonomy to the judiciary and the Houses of Assembly at the state level.



But the PDP, in a statement by its publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Sunday, said the latest development confirms its earlier claim that the presidency is used to dishing out fictitious achievements and false performance indices to deceive Nigerians ahead of 2019 general election.

“Equally appalling is that the Presidency is still listing the passage of the “Not Too Young to Run” law as an achievement of the President even when he had no input whatsoever in the initiative.

“It is instructive to note that none of the amendments stem from any executive bill and that the Buhari Presidency has never initiated any programme to enhance the course of governance in our country in the last three years.

“Furthermore, Nigerians already know that the Buhari administration has not implemented a single project or programme in any part of the country in the last three years of governance, but always resorting to lies, blame passing, beguilments, deception and contrivance.

“Instead of seeking ways to mitigate the situation, Mr. President’s handlers are subjecting him to more public ridicule of commissioning projects executed by other leaders such as his embarrassing commissioning of a regular bus stop constructed by Lagos state and a water borehole in Jigawa while posturing for photo-ops to hoodwink Nigerians.

“In fact, this clear attempt by the Presidency to claim credit for the achievement of the National Assembly has further confirms PDP’s earlier alert to Nigerians of plans by the Presidency to dish out fictitious achievements and false performance indices to deceive Nigerians ahead of 2019 general election.

“The PDP however, commends the National Assembly and state houses of assembly for their resilience in enhancing our democratic practice as consolidated by successive PDP administrations, despite the unrelenting assault on the institution of the legislature by the Buhari administration,” the statement partly read.

FORMER President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has been told not to worry that his rights would be trampled upon when he raised alarm of alleged frame-up by the incumbent administration.

This assurance is coming from Human Rights Activist, Femi Falana.

Mr Obasanjo last week raised alarm saying a plot to frame him up was underway. Banking on alleged anonymous sources the former president said his name was on the Watch List of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

According to Mr Obasanjo, his travail started after he urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek a second term in office, citing underperformance. His advise has been waved away by Mr Buhari who has declared his intention to run in the 2019 election.

The president recently accused his predecessor of frittering away $16 billion on phoney electricity projects. Mr Obasanjo dismissed the claim saying Mr Buhari was ignorant.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former president said the security of his life cannot be guaranteed with the government’s latest move against him.

In a swift response to the claims, the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, described the accusations as frivolous, alleging that the former Nigerian leader was trying to distract the government.

On his part, Mr Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said the former president need not worry because he (Obasanjo) has the backing of the Human Right Community which would make his right were not violated.

He noted that in the case of economic and financial crimes, there is no way they can prevent the government from carrying out its investigation.

Falana insisted that while Obasanjo had stated that he was ready for a probe, the human rights community would ensure that his rights are not violated within the ambit of the law.

“General Obasanjo has nothing to worry about, we will ensure that his rights are not violated,” he said while reacting to the allegation when he featured on a programme on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics yesterday.

“We are going to adopt the same attitude when he and the late General (Shehu) Yar’Adua and others were tried illegally and sentenced to death,” Falana added.

SENATOR Dino Melaye has described the posthumous national honour bestowed on late Moshood Abiola as a well deserved one.

Late Abiola presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election, was honoured posthumously with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) award with Mr. Melaye saying it was wrong.

Mr Melaye against his earlier stance on the topic matter said his initial position were misrepresented.

At the Senate plenary on Thursday, the lawmaker had argued that the National Honours Act provides that such a honour be conferred on the recipient in person; and since Mr Abiola is dead, he cannot receive the award.

He added that the act provides that the honour be bestowed on Nigerians and since Mr Abiola is dead, “he is no longer a Nigerian”.

“Subsection 2 of the act says a person shall be eligible for appointment to any rank or holder unless he is a citizen of Nigeria. A dead man is not a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We should not be emotional about this. The law remains the law.

“Subject to the next notice, a person shall be appointed to a particular rank of an order when the president receives him in person,” he had said.

But on Sunday, Melaye in a statement backtracked saying his support for the award is unshaken as he had been clamouring for such years earlier.

“Since last two days, I have been inundated with calls and text messages from well-meaning Nigerians especially my constituents, who want to inquire my exact position on the declaration of June 12 as the new Democracy Day and the conferment of the highest National Honours of GCFR on the late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election.

“For the avoidance of doubt, my views and belief on the sanctity of June 12 and the place of the late Chief MKO Abiola in Nigeria’s democratic history, have not changed and will not. Hence, in my view, the decision by the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to honour the late business mogul was deserving and long overdue save for the attendant legal issues raised.

“It is a verifiable fact that I have canvassed for this recognition for Chief Abiola over the years, and granted interview to Channels Television two years ago, where I advocated for same,” Melaye said.

However, he urged the government to work on what he said were legal encumbrances surrounding the decision and to alter the National Honours Act to accommodate the new development.

“Let me make also it abundantly clear that while both Chief Abiola and the late legal luminary, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) deserved more than the GCFR and GCON Honours respectively to be bestowed on them posthumously next Tuesday, it is however important that the right thing be done in their memory should not have any blemish in the guise of the current debate for legality or otherwise of the historic Honours as we are witnessing now.

“I urge the federal government to do the needful and display sincerity of purpose by officially recognising Chief Abiola as President-elect and cause the official results of the June 12, 1993 presidential election to be released by INEC since President Buhari himself had admitted in the Presidential Order designating June 12 as Democracy Day, the most freest and credible election, and then the GCFR title will therefore have a meaning.

“If the right thing is done now by the federal government by proposing amendment to the National Honours Act 1964 to accommodate the current developments, no government in future will reverse the decision. This is my stand as a lawmaker,” Mr Melaye added.

FORMER President, Olusegun Obasanjo, cannot be touched, a political party recently adopted by his movement, Coalition of Nigeria (CN) has said.

The party, African Democratic Congress (ADC) also threatened to shut down Aso Rock presidential villa if the former Nigerian leader is touched.

The ADC stated this while reacting to the allegation of frame-up levelled against the government by Mr Obasanjo.

The opposition party made the threat on Friday through its chairman, Okey Nwosu.

The ADC was reported by PUNCH Newspaper to have said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government had resorted to hounding opposition members into submission.

It said this was because the administration have failed to deliver on its campaign promises.

“What we are witnessing is the desperation of a failed government. When you have mediocre persons that are not focused on handling state power, they often go to dictatorial levels to try to achieve their aim but this time, the people of Nigeria and God are on our side and we will do what our country needs.

“President Obasanjo cannot be touched. When in 2014 and 2015, he was in the vanguard of trying to effect change because of the situation then, they were applauding him as the champion of a new Nigeria.

“Now that things have gone wrong in the area of security and economy and he is speaking out, they are now chasing the champion of new Nigeria. We will mobilise the whole of Nigeria to take over Aso Rock Villa if the government steps out of line,” the party said.

AYODELE Fayose, governor of Ekiti State has called on former president Olusegun Obasanjo to stop acting like a woman and face his travails like a man.

Mr Fayose made the call on Saturday in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, while reacting to Obasanjo’s allegation of frame-up which he said was targeted at him by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The governor while urging the former president to submit himself for probe advised him (Obasanjo) not to make his predicament a Yoruba issue.

Fayose making reference to Obasanjo’s book, ‘My Watch’ wherein the former president stated that ‘he prefers to be jailed by Buhari rather than former President Goodluck Jonathan being reelected into office’ said it is good that he is now being served the goodies he saw in Buhari that made him a Buhari’s promoter during the 2015 general election.

“To me, former President Obasanjo should submit himself for probe and trial. He gave us the impression that he is a brave man who is not afraid of anything. He is a retired general in the army who has seen a lot and should not be raising alarms now. Obasanjo said Buhari was the best for Nigeria while promoting him for the 2015 general elections.



“In his book ‘Under My Watch’, Obasanjo said he prefers to be jailed by Buhari rather than former President Goodluck Jonathan being reelected into office. Now prison is beckoning on him and he wants to dodge. He set up the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and among others.

“Obasanjo even used those bodies to hound and lock up many people including state governors, why is he now afraid of being probed. Let him tell Nigerians how he made his money. People can recollect the level he was before he became president and how he left office. If Buhari is now telling the whole world that Obasanjo stole money, it is incumbent on Obasanjo to prove his innocence.

“Moreover, Obasanjo should stop giving the impression that he is the leader of the Yoruba people. He is not. We have more eminent people who qualify to be our leaders. And he should also not try and sell any dummy that his travails are that of Yoruba people. I have been tried a number of times by the EFCC and faced the challenges as a man. He should also do so.

“In fact, I am laughing at the whole scenario. That Obasanjo could cry out. I don’t know he can act like a woman. It is amazing that he is behaving this way. If he has anything to clarify, let him do that,” he said.

Fayose, who described both Obasanjo and Buhari as analogue leaders, urged them to step aside and allow the younger generation to take over the stage.

On his criticisms of Buhari, Fayose said they were always done in good faith. The governor said it was unfortunate that some people failed to heed his admonition that whoever brings and rides a tiger may end up in its belly.

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has said the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed disobeyed him by replying the letter of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Mr Buhari stated this on Friday night when he played host to Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The president who said that his Information Minister disobeyed him however noted that he (Mohammed) did a good job judging from the recommendation he received.

Mr Buhari also hinted two reasons why he prevented one of his aides, Femi Adesina, from replying the Mr Obasanjo. He cited age difference and constituency as his reasons.

“I really appreciate how you choose this time during Ramadan to come from across the country to see and congratulate me for what we were able to do,” Buhari was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to have said.



“We were constrained to explain our position when the former head of state wrote a letter; Adesina was agitated and wanted to immediately reply; I stopped him for two reasons; first, he was much younger than me and Gen. Obasanjo.

“Secondly, I am from the same constituency with Gen. Obasanjo; so, I wouldn’t know how it will affect him if I allow him to go wild or to go public, but when Lai Mohammed came, I said he shouldn’t and he insisted. He disobeyed me.

“He said I must allow him to talk; then, of course, being a professional information person, I listened to him and asked him what are you going to say?

“He said he was going to remind Nigerians where we found ourselves when we came in as a government, where we are now, what we have done in between with the resources available to us.

“And I understand he did a good job because a number of people rang me and said Lai Mohammed has done a good job because I went public several times,” Buhari said.

In his remarks, the leader of the organisation, Abba Ali, who narrated the achievements of the Buhari administration in the last three years, said they were on solidarity visit to the president to further reassure him of their support.

In Separate Statements, Lai Mohammed Gives Conflicting Figures Allegedly Looted By PDP Chairman

INFORMATION Minister, Lai Mohammed has given conflicting figures allegedly looted by the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus.

Mr. Mohammed had while responding to the challenge by the PDP, who ordered the government to name treasury looters or keep quiet, released five names of those who according to him, allegedly amassed illegal wealth from the nation’s treasury.

The list released on Friday, had PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus, said to have looted N200 Million while an unnamed financial secretary of the opposition party, went away with N600 Million.

Others on the list are: Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman of DAAR Communications – N2.1 billion; former SSA to President Jonathan, Dudafa Waripamo-Owei – N830 million and former President Jonathan’s Cousin Robert Azibaola – $40 million.

But in an interview with Sun Newspaper titled, “Not all PDP defectors are looters –Lai Mohammed,” published on Wednesday, the figures listed by the minister to have been looted by opposition party scribes did not tally with those contained in his Friday’s statement.

In his new claim, Mohammed said Secondus looted N100 Million as against the N200 Million contained in his earlier list. This allegation has attracted a litigation from the PDP chieftain who is demanding N1.5 Billion as damages.

Also, a close look at what the unnamed financial secretary allegedly looted in Mohammed’s new position differs from his earlier stance which has N600 Million against the now N700 Million.

Seeking for clarifications, this reporter’s calls placed to the minister’s aide, Segun Adeyemi, rang unanswered.

Call placed to the papers’ editor, Aderonke Bello, was answered with a promise to get back with further details. As at press time, she was yet to do so.

In the interview, Mohammed had said it was not all defectors coming to the APC from the PDP are treasury looters.

Reminded that Nigerians were of the opinion that there is no difference between the two major political parties in the country because those accused of corruption stand protected once they decamped to the ruling party, Mohammed noted that, “It would be unfair to say that everybody that joined APC from PDP is a looter, it would be unfair. I am saying that whether you are of ACN stock or PDP stock or CPC stock and you are found to be corrupt, you will be investigated.”

THE federal government and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been urged to publish their respective list of saints in its fold.

The duo had recently published list of those it alleged to have amassed the nation’s resources illegally.

The government released the list after it was dared by the PDP to do so following corruption allegations made by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo against the Jonathan administration.

The call to publish the list of saints was made by an All Progressive Congress Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani.

Mr Sani, who described the parties’ action as an entertainment to the nation, took to his official Twitter handle to call out both parties.

“The two sides entertained the nation with their ‘List of Looters’.

“Now it’s time for them to publish their ‘List of Saints’ who have never sinned and can confidently throw the first stone.”

The lawmaker’s tweet got some Nigerians have reacting. Some of the reactions are captured below:

FORMER President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised Nigerians not to re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the coming presidential poll slated for 2019.

Mr Obasanjo said the President and his party have failed to meet up to expectation, hence the need to kick them out in the next election.

He had on January urged the president to shelve the thoughts of a second term in office, citing underperformance.

The former president gave the advise at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta while receiving a joint delegation of Nigeria Young Professionals Forum (NYPF) and New Nigeria 2019.

He also noted that the two major political parties, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), cannot take the nation to the promised land.

He charged the citizens not to be hoodwinked by the reforms promised by the ruling APC or accept the recent apology tendered by the opposition PDP.

Making a veiled reference to the Buhari-led government, the former president noted that the administration was indulging in giving excuses, arguing that the current administration would not have been voted into power if there were no challenges to address.

He wondered why the President was scheming for re-election having allegedly failed to deliver on his electioneering promises to Nigerians.

While urging youths to participate in politics, Obasanjo admonished them not to allow themselves to be divided by the powers that be.

“What those I call power addicts would want to do is to divide you based on gender, age, tribe, religion and region. You have one commonality – interest of Nigeria. And it doesn’t matter where you come from. We had that interest.

“The truth is this: when you have an ineffective and incompetent government, we are all victims. And don’t let anybody deceive you. Those of you who are in business, your business could have been better today if we had a competent and effective and performing government.

“As I said, stop giving excuses; we met challenges. If there are no challenges, then we wouldn’t need you to come. You came in because you know there are challenges and then giving us excuse that you have many challenges, that is why you haven’t achieved results. And then you still want to go.

“The first lesson I learnt in my military training is never reinforce failure. What we have now is failure. Never you reinforce failure. Let failure be failure.

“And if you do not see what you should see, you will then be a victim of what you don’t like because it’s only when you see what you should see and you do what you should do that you put away what you do not like. And if you don’t see what you should see and you don’t do what you should do, you will be a victim of what you don’t like,” he said.

The two groups, led by Moses Siasia and China Anyaso, said they visited the ex-president to consult him on the state of the nation and assured him of their preparedness to respond to his clarion call for a popular movement to rescue Nigeria.

ANN-KIO Briggs, convener of Niger-Delta Self-Determination Movement, NDSDM, has stated why the people of Niger Delta prefers referendum to restructuring of the country.

Briggs said the Niger Delta was opting for referendum because the government has failed to protect it citizens in the hands of foreigners who have invaded the country and are terrorising the land.

Briggs who noted that restructuring would have been an option if the North had accepted it, opposed the amnesty granted to Boko Haram terrorist.

Noting that the government had repeatedly described Boko Haram insurgents and killer herdsmen as foreigners, she wondered why the government would turn around to grant such people amnesty.


She said pardoning the terrorists would amount to the government admitting that Nigeria has failed and it is incapable of saving Nigerians from terrorists and foreign invaders.

Warning that such amnesty should not be funded with oil resources of the Niger Delta, Briggs said, “This government wants Nigerians to believe that Boko Haram will embrace amnesty. I hope they don’t want to use Niger Delta oil money for the amnesty programme. Government has told us repeatedly that Boko Haram are foreigners. By wanting to grant amnesty to Boko Haram, the government has admitted that Nigeria has failed and it has no capacity to protect Nigerians. We have killer herdsmen all over the place.

“Foreigners have invaded Nigeria and the best the government can do is to grant them amnesty. That is why we in the Niger Delta want referendum.

“Restructuring would have been good but since the core North does not want restructuring, we want referendum,” Vanguard quoted her to have said.

WHY BOKO HARAM DESERVES AMNESTY

Meanwhile, the Presidency, on Sunday, stated why Boko Haram terrorists deserved the amnesty it granted the deadly group.

It said granting amnesty to Boko Haram insurgents would make them drop their arms, embrace peace, stop bloodshed and save resources for the country.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, disclosed this in an interview in Abuja.

“Whoever is peddling these rumours that Boko Haram is being granted amnesty and so on, I would ask them who doesn’t want to make peace with the enemy? In any case, as it is proverbially said, all wars end up in the boardroom.

“You can defeat people technically in the field but at the end, you must come to the conference room to resolve all issues. So, if Boko Baram would lay down their arms and stop fighting and stop preaching that negative ideology, the country should be able to embrace them, welcome all of them so that they continue to live normal lives and be useful to the nation.

“What that means is that we will be saving cost, saving lives that are being lost through bombing, killing of service personnel and we will be saving money that we are using to procure weapons so that such money can go into services and infrastructure and welfare of the citizens of this country. It is a win-win situation,” he said.

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Federal Government are avoiding the main issued it raised on the looters list.

The government and the APC had while reacting to the apology the PDP tendered to Nigerians urged the opposition party to return resources it looted while in power as a mark of genuine penitence.

Information Minister, Lai Mohammed spoke for the government while APC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, spoke for the ruling party. The duo made their positions known in separate press statements.

Mr. Mohammed said “The PDP presided over an unprecedented looting of the public treasury, perhaps the worst of its kind in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world. Therefore, the best evidence of penitence for such a party is not just to own up and apologize, but to also return the looted funds. Anything short of that is mere deceit.


For the APC Mr. Abdullahi noted that, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) acknowledges the apologies by the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) for the damage the party has wrought on the country’s democratic fabric during its sixteen-year rule.

“However, despite this belated grovelling apology, PDP will need to come clean, confess to their sins and fully atone for it, before restitution is considered.”

But the opposition party fired urging the APC to return all the stolen funds it used to finance the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The government then said it will not stop talking about the corruption in its preceding administration.

The PDP responded by urging the government to name members in its fold who amassed wealth through illegal means while it was in power.

The opposition party had advised it to keep quiet if it could not do so.

Responding, the government through its Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, said, “Let’s just give them a teaser with this list: PDP Chairman Uche Secondus, On the 19th of Feb 2015, he took N200 million only from the office of then NSA, Then PDP Financial Secretary, On the 24th of Oct 2014, he took N600 million only from the office of then NSA, then National Publicity Secretary Olisah Metuh, on trial for collecting N1.4b from the office of then NSA.”

So far, Secondus and Metuh are seeking legal means to address the inclusion of their names in the list.

On Sunday, the government released another version of list containing 24 names of those who allegedly looted while the PDP were in power.

Responding, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a chat with The Nation accused the government of avoiding the issue it raised on the looters’ list.

“The APC, the federal government and Alhaji Lai Mohammed are being desperate and they are dodging issues. We have raised the issue that where did they raise funds for President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 presidential campaign.

“That is the question for which Nigerians are waiting for answers. All these names they are bandying about are in the public domain. Most of the cases are in court.

“They are mere allegations and according to the Nigerian Constitution, you are innocent until proven guilty. So if you are bandying allegations. It’s just a mere list. It don’t hold water.

“The question Nigerians are asking is that Buhari said he was an insolvent person, that he didn’t have money before the 2015 elections. So where did he get the money he used for his 2015 presidential election?,” the spokesman of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan queried.

THE Federal Government has released more names of alleged looters of the treasury during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The government had earlier released six names as those alleged to have amassed the nation’s resources illegally.

In a statement by Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, on Sunday, the new list by contained 24 names.

Former NSA Sambo Dasuki: Based on EFCC investigations and findings alone (this is beside the ongoing $2.1 billion military equipment scandal), a total of N126 billion, over $1.5 billion and 5.5 million British Pounds was embezzled through his office. A good number of
these monies were simply shared to persons and companies without any formal contract awards.
Former Petroleum Resources Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke: In just one of the cases the EFCC is investigating involving her, about N23 billion is alleged to have been embezzled. She is also involved in the Strategic Alliance Contracts of the NNPC, where the firms of Jide Omokore and Kola Aluko got oil blocks but never paid government taxes and royalty. About $3 billion was involved. The Federal Government is charging Omokore and Aluko and will use all legal instruments local and international to ensure justice.

Rtd. Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah: N13.9 billion. N4.8 billion recovered by EFCC in cash and property

Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika: N4.5 billion. N29m recovered by the EFCC so far.

Alex Barde, former Chief of Defence Staff: N8 billion, and EFCC recovered almost N4 billion in cash and property already.

Inde Dikko: former CG Customs: N40 billion, and N1.1 billion in cash recovered in cash and choice properties.

Air Marshal Adesola Amosun: N21.4 billion. N2.8 billion recovered in cash. 28 properties and 3 vehicles also recovered.

Senator Bala Abdulkadir, former FCT Minister: N5 billion. Interim forfeiture order on some property secured.

Senator Stella Oduah: N9.8 billion. Interim forfeiture order on some property secured.

Former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu: N1.6 billion – from NSA.

Senator Jonah Jang, former Plateau State Governor: N12.5 billion.

Bashir Yuguda, former Minister of State for Finance: N1.5 billion. $829,800 recovered.

Senator Peter Nwaboshi: N1.5 billion.

Aliyu Usman: Former NSA Dasuki’s aide: N512 million

Ahmad Idris: Former NSA Dasuki’s PA: N1.5 billion

Rasheed Ladoja: Former Oyo Governor: N500 million

Tom Ikimi: N300 million

Femi Fani-Kayode: N866 million

Hassan Tukur, former PPS to President Goodluck: $1.7 million

Nenadi Usman: N1.5 billion

Benedicta Iroha: N1.7 billion

Aliyu Usman Jawaz: Close ally of former NSA Dasuki: N882 million

Jonah Jang, former Plateau State Governor: N12.5 billion

24 Godknows Igali: Over N7 billion

A man confessed to having rigged elections, and the security agencies are not inviting him to give account, talk less of charging him to court to denying people their true representation.

What we have instead is the government in power using a serious issue to play politics with the hope that it would away people to vote for them instead of the PDP.
