Have you heard from both sides of the argument?

All of a sudden, 20year old car na banger. So when we complain of new cars with their unnecessary electronics, we should also complain of old cars because them be banger. Ok, car doctor

I left this forum because of too many ignoramuses like this op on NL. From this lengthy epistle, I believe he should be able to fix his own car without getting any technician involved. Why come here to critcise someones efforts in trying to fix your 20 year old banger in this modern age. The challenges are many, even for the so called experts in the way things work in Naija. Car owners with empty pickets shouldnt be owning cars.

Then tell the truth and clear all doubt. This topic should have ended on the first page. Personally, the OP seems truly aggrieved, but I was also expecting you, as the professional with a reputation to protect, to give your side and clear all doubt. All these lengthy talk gives room for diverse interpretation of things that have yet to be said.

I was born, brought up and live in Lagos. I have travelled and seen what governance means in other states. Lagos is a dump. Fakest megacity of all time. Lagos is the trendsetter in mediocrity. It has a big economy, but cannot support it. From frivolous taxes and smoky budgets to rent seeking by the great Jagaban.

Most cases of blown head gasket in our environment results from overheating. Sadly, because of the anti-thermostat gang, many people don't know how to troubleshoot overheating, other than removing thermostat and running fans direct, ignoring other components of the cooling system.

Prevention is always better than cure.

Sludge issues (ERROR OIL PRESSURE with the red light, not yellow light) is a known problem with the Passat B6 generation TSI engines (2006-2010 or so) . I dealt with it when i had the car. Once you have the issue, the engine is more or less condemned. Abroad, they'd just switch out the engine because once the error shows up, there's no sure way of fixing it. You can only clean it and hope.

Bad times, but by God, that was an awesome car.

When you're getting a Passat, err on the side of caution and get an FSI. The engine is like 400k or so. The TSI engine is more than 1m

Funny thing is, I've been to Sikkens at Akoka before just to gauge the quality of their work. I remember looking at a couple of black SUVs they were painting. It looked so inky black that I was not impressed on closer inspection, especially as the reflections from the paint were slightly rippled (like water) and not like a mirror. My friend was impressed until I took him out again and showed him the quality and character of paint on my 20yr old golf 3.

I have not seen a Nigerian painter that would really impress me sha, but I hope to find one.

They are not genuinely cleared. Don't do it.

I have only ever owned German cars.

This issue the OP is talking is what i notice each time I have to drive a friend or colleague's Toyota. I thought it was a gear issue with the first car, but It has happened on every toyota I have driven, so now i just assumed it's the poor workmanship of the tranny. On my cars (Golf, Passat), shifting is instantaneous and even exaggerated.

On Toyota, RPM runs high when I depress the pedal suddenly without any corresponding change in speed, so I have to remove leg and wait a few seconds before car will respond.

If this is OP's first toyota, maybe he hasn't just gotten used to Japanese workmanship

If yes, there's there's vacuum leak or disconnection somewhere. I traced the tiny vacuum pipe and fixed it. If not you should prolly have a rewire get it checked.

What Gasket did he change? It sounds like a wiring issue.

For the love of God, don't work on that car (I had the 2009 tsi) without getting it scanned first. and by professionals, If you're in Lagos, you can check Professor (08061282133) to scan it and fix any possible wiring issues, the guy is really good. I hope they haven't ruined the engine timing.

If you happen to go there and the issue is mechanical (professor doesn't recommend mechanics because he doesn't trust them), take it to Gbagada (Ogun 08034682166); they helped me fix problems that defied the VW centre at Surulere for months.

I hoped I helped. I don't want any human being to pass through what i passed through at the hands of incompetent mechanics

Heeellpp... VW Passat 07 FSI (manual gear) want to make my friend go bankrupt.
Small thing as overheating has kept the car stranded for over a month.
He had a burst pipe and d car started overheating.
He called a Mech to change the pipe and gasket and after that the car has refused to start.
They have tried several tricks to no avail... Changed valve, set timing but the car does not even crank.
Well its his first car (which I advised him against)--- have had my share of vw madness.) Av asked him to scan but my friend is considering disposing the car..rather than spend any dime on it.
For me oo I will slight ask how much is 07 Passat engine 4plug FSI...
But for the love of profession is there a trusted Mech that can be recommended

You want to repaint the car? I am very wary of these painting I see being done on cars in nigeria; they're disgusting to say the least. Its always too shiny, and there are always ripple below the surface. After a few months, the paints begins to look like they were plastered on the car, it doesn't look like a second skin anymore. Where would you be painting this bmw?
